The takeout food we ordered tonight rocks. The shrimp stuffed eggplant was a great pick, I took the advice from another Yelp writer on this. The whole takeout is a home run. Great crab rangoons and the scallion pancakes have scallion and are the chewy consistency they are suppose to have when you bite! I'll be dreaming of my next takeout from here. Su Chang's is about 45 minutes from my home, so can't make it my every day Chinese spot, but it really should be... it's that good. My recent dinner reminded me that I need to make more of an effort to make the drive to Peabody. Our dinner was excellent. The chow here is miles above what you find at other Chinese restaurants. We loved everything we had.... won ton soup, spring rolls, spare ribs (meaty, amazing), perfect pan fried dumplings, shrimp and lobster sauce (the lobster sauce here is great, never had better), pea tendrils (when a restaurant offers pea tendrils it's a sign that they know what they are doing... a sign of quality). My Mai Tai was just right, as well as my wife's mixed drink. Service here is excellent as well, so all in all a wonderfully satisfying dining experience. read more

Su Changs is hands down one of the best chinese gourmet restaurants in Mass. Whenever I crave authentic Chinese food, this is my go-to. Ive tried essentially their whole menu and love it all. Some of my favorite dishes are the peatendrils (otherwise known as peapod stems/peashoots), salt and pepper shrimp and scallops, and beef chow foon with bean sprouts. This visit was a little different since I preordered a 15 pound lobster and it was cooked to PERFECTION and definitely a life experience. I know theres a myth that the bigger and older the lobster, the less tender the meat. COMPLETELY A MYTH. It is based on the skill of a chef - it was so tender...I just couldnt get enough. With such a big lobster, we cooked it three ways - salt and pepper (my favorite), black bean sauce, and ginger scallion. We forgot to take pics of the other dishes though.. looked too yummy. I almost never write reviews but this experience warranted one. If you havent given Su Changs a shot, I highly recommend it. read more

Overpriced microwaved food. I recently got lunch here and was completely disappointed with my food. I took two bites and had to throw the rest away. I got general gao chicken, fried rice, and crab rangoons. The food came out in less than five minutes from ordering so there is no way this was cooked to order in that time. The chicken was soggy and chewy. There is no way this chicken was just fried and had breading this soggy and mushy, it was also too hot to eat so it must have been microwaved or sitting in an oven keeping it warm for a long time. The sauce on the chicken had the texture of reheated cornstarch that has started to turn to jelly. The crab rangoons were also not fresh. The tips were crispy but the bottoms were soaked in oil like they had been sitting for a long time too. The cream cheese inside had a grainy texture. The rice was overcooked and didn't have much flavor. On top of all this the lunch specials cost $13. The prices on their website are not updated. There are multiple other Chinese restaurants around here you can get the same thing for under $10 and the food will be much better quality. I have no idea how this place is popular. read more

My favorite to go place for Chinese take out. Once you placed an order online, your order will be ready in 15 mins! Fresh and hot too! Customer service is always good. I always get their salt and pepper pork chops, roast pork lo mein, sautéed Chinese spinach and king to pork chops. The king to pork chops is smothered in a red sauce that tasted similar to char siu. Sweet and a little sour but goes great on top of white rice. Their S&P pork chops are deep fried to perfection and the tossed in their salty seasoned with scallions. I was recommended this restaurant by an old coworker who lives in the area. My dad and I went on Christmas Day a la "A Christmas Story" and it was packed. I'm assuming this is the case every year as they had a reservation list and the employees were managing everything very well. We didn't have reservations, but we got lucky and got a table relatively quickly. My dad and I each had a drink in the small bar area while we waited for a table. I ordered the original Mai Tai, which was excellent and the best one I've had anywhere in Massachusetts. There's other variations of the Mai Tai on the menu as well as beer, wine, and other cocktails. We shared the pan-fried Peking ravioli as an appetizer, which we really enjoyed. Juicy pork, perfectly crispy outside, tasty sauce. For entrees, I ordered the spicy chicken with peanuts and my dad got General Gau's chicken. The portion size and the quality of the chicken was good, but the flavor left much to be desired. Unfortunately, in my experience, this complaint applies to every Chinese restaurant I've visited in New England. The so-called spicy dishes are, frankly, not at all spicy. As someone who loves spicy food this is disappointing to me. Despite the lack of heat I was desiring in my food, I would come back as I very much enjoyed the dining atmosphere, the drinks, and the service. read more

Very disappointed that they have a 50 % upcharge on takeout food on the day before Christmas and New Years. Been a loyal customer for years and don't like being taken advantage of. Have always found the food to be excellent and staff more than accommodating when I go there. Because of a great grandson going there for Christmas Eve was not practical. Paying for a large takeout order and a 50% upcharge would have made it not worthwhile. We picked up our takeout order from another Chinese location and it was very good. read more

Really disappointed in the direction this restaurant is going. It has always been one of the best places to go for Asian cuisine on the North Shore. In our recent visits we noticed that the prices have increased a fair amount. This is understandable. What is not is that they have also reduced the food sizing on certain foods. The spareribs are now literally half the length they were before, but you get the same number. Same number of dumplings, but now they are about 20% smaller than before. The scallion pancake has the same number of pie wedges but the diameter of the pancake has shrunk dramatically. And so on. It is okay to raise prices to offset higher food and labor costs, but shrinking the food at the same time is not good business. read more

A lot of times Chinese restaurants don't pay too much attention to decor and ambience. This is not the case for Su-Chang's. The building looks like it could have previously been an inn or something and the interior is elegant with white tablecloths. Service was great and food was good too. We were driving back to Boston from Maine and stopped here for dinner. After eating a lot of fried food and burgers all week, I was craving something healthier with some veggies. My beef with mixed vegetables totally hit the spot! The place was bustling with people out on a Friday night. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We even heard a birthday celebration on the other side of the room. Place is good for a date or group dinner. read more

One of my favorite restaurants. Clean Great Food Good Prices Great Service First, I would like to mention that It is always extraordinarily clean. They have snow white tablecloths and napkins, I even hear that they have a special laundromat in the basement, (but this is unconfirmed) Cleanliness also extends to all silverware, plates, and even the windows. Now, the food... First, you get a free bottomless pot of hot, house-brewed Oolong tea. Now, what's slightly unusual about ordering here, is that you do not order for yourself, you order for your table. A plate of pan-seared noodles for instance, is to be shared among the whole table. Soup - which is only 6 bucks can fill 4 large bowls. Speaking of soup, be sure to try the "Sai Su Minced Beef Soup, it is awesome! To reiterate. this is not a restaurant where people order for themselves. So groups of at least 3 are preferred. All food is always ALWAYS prepared fresh, nothing is frozen, nothing is made outside and then reheated. The soup that I was talking about, every time I eat it, it tastes a tad different. And by that I mean it is a little more thick, a little more salty. This indicates it is made by a chef, from scratch. the Crab Rangoons are always brought on a plate straight from the fryer, and are very hot, not to the point of being unbearable, just hot enough for you to know beyond a reasonable doubt they are fresh. All of the food here is very good, it is just a matter of if it is to your tastes. Everyone must find their favorite dishes, and go with them. Some plates can be a tad bland, but there is salt, pepper, sweet/sour sauce, and really spicy chinese mustard provided. Finally, I want to talk about service, which is amazing. First, as far as I know, you are not assigned a waiter, but they all know what you need and or ordered. Therefore, you can flag down anyone, and not have to wait for your specific waiter to stop by. Service is fast, as soon as everyone closes their menu, a waiter comes up to take your order. Appetizers are brought soon afterwards, as soon as you finish one, the next is out before you can say "SuChangs" The number one thing about service, is customer care. For example, as I mentioned, My family and I order the Crab Rangoons. According to the menu, a table is supposed to get 10. There are three of us in my family (myself included), so instead of, per the menu, bringing us ten, and having us fight over the last one, they ALWAYS bring twelve without the price going up. Another thing is that a woman who is the owner, or manager usually walks around at dinnertime and asks people how everything is. As a tea lover, I asked if I could have some of the loose tea they use in their bottomless pots. While they could not do this, she said If I brought a Thermos, they would happily fill it up. I must say, however, that they are very conservative when it comes to decor, but this leads to more focus on the food, and less focus on decorations. read more

Su-Chang's is a "like not love" restaurant for me. They have a nice variety of dishes and the ones we tried were pretty good. We chose from the most popular dishes on yelp and thought everything was fine. They were easy to have low-contact pickup and were friendly while grabbing the big bag o'food which is a big plus in my book. We'll try again and have a bigger variety of dishes to see if we find ones that we'll love as much as many others seem to love from this place. I'm hopeful! read more

A group of us dined on a Tuesday evening. Years past this restaurant was very busy any night of the week - but not last night. So we were a group of 12. They put us alone in a side room area away from the main section of the restaurant. Our server was very good. Some of us had Mai tais or different cocktails. She filled our water glasses, several pots of tea and so on. Some ordered appetizers & entrees. I ordered a scallion pie - which to me was another word for scallion pancake. I had also ordered moo shii vegetables extra spicy. Both were good but very heavy on the oil .. it's probably me, but a little went a long way. From what I could see from my section of our table everyone seemed to enjoy what they ordered. After came the usual pineapple chunks and fortune cookies. The restaurant did do separate checks which helped tremendously. I wasn't crazy over what I ordered. It definitely wasn't the restaurant's fault. I should have realized the heavy oil content would be what it was .. next time I will try something else. read more

Frozen mushy seafood $40 for a pu pu platter. The one potent Mai tai that was $7 is now $10.50 for a small glass. Service is even worse. Hard to get anything after they drop off your food. Mediocre Chinese food. Great service, the waiter was attentive. The Hot chilli oil is not spicy at all. The chicken wings were small and slightly dry. The calamari were small pieces, and there was no tentacle parts. (That's my favorite!) The vegetables were good, slightly bland cause my dad had to add a bit of soy sauce to it. The clam with black bean sauce was good. It's a cute place for a family gather or casual lunch/dinner. Enjoy! read more

I've been to this place dozens of times and thought the food was generally good, but I was just treated very rudely. My wife and I went at 4:30pm on a Saturday for a late lunch/early dinner. We wanted to watch college football while eating and asked to sit at the bar. After we were seated they told us we could not eat and sit at the bar.....we were confused since the other couple sitting at the bar were eating. They said they ordered before "busy time ". The place was empty at the time.....I can't understand why I can't eat at the bar at "busy time" when it certainly wasn't busy. Bad decision by management....you lost a long time customer. read more

I hadn't been here in quite awhile so I stopped in for dinner with my wife and daughter. We ordered several dishes and traded food back and forth. Everything was excellent. We were seated immediately, and our waiter was extremely attentive. The food arrived quickly and piping hot. Of note was the half Long Island duck. Cooked perfectly and moist and succulent. Since i moved to Massachusetts, i was having trouble finding a food Chinese restaurant. I mean, there are TONS but none with food i find tasty and good. Until i tried this place!. The food here is delish. Is like a fine dining rest. Very nice and very clean. My favorite thing here are the boneless ribs. Today i order to pick up because they do not offer delivery. I order beef fried rice, boneless ribs and an order of chicken wings. Everything was fine minus the rice, it has no flavor and today it kinda taste like it was almost burned. But to be honest, this is the first time and the place was packed... like always!!. I do have to add, they are kinda pricey. I paid 27.42 for those 3 things and that's not even too much food.
