This past Thanksgiving I went to SJ Made's Holiday Fair and saw Charlotte Truffles here. They had a…read morebooth and were offering samples that I couldn't refuse. I ended up caving in. A pricey little box, but for this quality, it's to be expected. I sampled Vietnamese coffee and raspberry yuzu. I much preferred the tartness of the raspberry yuzu. The Vietnamese coffee was more on the dense and darker side which I wasn't really feeling. I ended up getting a custom 6-piece box: raspberry yuzu (x2), rose water saffron (x2), and sesame praline (x2). The raspberry yuzu was extra yummy with the chocolate this time. The bitterness and tartness went well together. The sesame praline was interesting. The filling had a more crispy and gritty texture as a result from what appears to be sugar crystals. The sesame was nicely incorporated so that it wasn't overpowering. I really liked it. The rose water saffron was interesting. It definitely had floral and earthy notes. This is among their most popular flavors, but it just wasn't for me unfortunately. It slightly crossed the floral soap threshold for my taste buds. No matter, I know I will be back for the raspberry yuzu and sesame praline someday, and I hope to try other unique flavors they have as well.

I realized it was a home based kitchen and I might have to place an order a day before so I gave up as I needed instant gratification. But recently the hankering started again, I saw on their website that they sell at a local store near mountainview so I decided to bite the bullet and drive up there. Meanwhile I also messaged the owner, Nidhi, to see if I can pick up from her directly if she had some stock. After picking up a box from the store, I got Nidhi's message that she had some in stock and I can pick up from her. Since her stock is fresher than the store I decided to get a box directly from her as well. Long story short- I ended up with two boxes of baklava in mixed nut, mango and chocolate flavors. First things first- these are not traditional baklavas which tend to be sticky and slightly heavy. These are fusion flavored ones with coconut and other Indian flavors. They are airy light and made in an Indian home kitchen. I devoured one of each flavor as soon as I got into my car. They are truly divine, not traditional but delicious nonetheless. They are not overly sweet as well. I cannot stomach too much sugar and these hit a perfect sweet spot. Nidhi truly has magical hands. I will turn into a regular customer. I plan to pick up some boxes from her to give to my cousins when I visit and also order for home parties. Nidhi's packaging is very beautiful as well, she left me a handwritten note along with my box.

I "liked" the business page on facebook and began looking over all of the pictures of Calee's special cakes and cupcakes. Being a "Cake Boss" fan, I was in heaven to see that we have our own Cake Boss here in San Jose. Back in March of this year I ordered a cake for our Godson's 5th birthday- a car in the shape of Lightening McQueen and it was amazing- not only did it look very cool, but it tasted wonderful. Our Godson thought it was awesome- in fact he kept asking "this is really my cake?" over and over again...the cake was a huge success with all party people!! Then this past week was my mom's 82 birthday and she was staying with us post-hospital stay and I thought it would be cool to get her some custom cupcakes- so I emailed Calee to see if she could pull it off for a last minute order and she was very happy to put it together- so she made 6 cupcakes that sat in flower pots with roses on top of them- they were so cute and my mom thought they were just so clever- not to mention they tasted amazing...since my husband and I are on Weight Watchers- we split a cupcake and my mom has had two of them since Monday...there are three left...and I told my mom come Friday when my WW bank of points resets, I want another one...until then I keep taking a whiff of them- they smell so yummy!! I would highly recommend Calee and the Lark & Sparrow Company to anyone in need of an awesome cake or cupcakes for a special event!!

I browsed thru her pictures and decided I'd contact her about my mom's birthday cake. April of last year I ordered a cake in the shape of a Jack Daniels bottle. Gave her the specifics of flavors and how many people I needed to feed. I picked it up the day before the party. It was a huge hit. My mom loved it, we had so many compliments on the cake it was crazy. We had leftover cake for days. Since then I've ordered cupcakes for my birthday and a second birthday cake for my mom. Now I have my friends ordering from Calee as well. Everything she uses is fresh, never frozen. All is hand made with love in her own kitchen. This year I gave her a theme for my mom's birthday and trusted her creativity to make some incredible. Gave her the specifics of flavors and numbers and left it to her to create. This ended up being the pink bunny slippers as seen in the photos. Again another hit. I didn't know what she was making until the day I picked it up. I saved the surprise for my mom as well. As usual leftover cake we picked at for days. The cupcakes for my birthday were chocolate cake with strawberry buttercream icing. Friends who went to dinner with us had rave reviews for the cupcakes, even though they weren't a huge chocolate and strawberry fan. I HIGHLY recommend Calee for any special occasion desert. Look at her pictures on fb or browse her website. I'm pretty sure she can do what you need. She is now the exclusive baker for my family. No more costco birthday cakes!!
