My experience with Studio Shed began positively, but unfortunately, it took a significant downturn after we paid in full. Initially, Studio Shed was very supportive with permitting and design, and we felt confident in their services. However, this confidence diminished once we settled the full payment for both the structure and the contractors. Initial Experience: We purchased the Summit Series model from Studio Shed, which, at around 1,000 square feet, was their largest at the time. Up until the delivery of the structure, everything went smoothly. Studio Shed also provided us with contractors they deemed "highly recommended," which we trusted given our good relationship with them. Contractor Issues: The contractor, Cadre General Contractors, visited our property only twice. The first visit was for an initial assessment, and the second, which lasted less than 10 minutes, was in response to our concerns about the quality of the work. When it came time for the siding installation, Cadre sent a worker who was unqualified and had no experience with Hardy Plank siding, despite the requirement for certification. We confirmed this directly with him and the Hardy Plank website. He occasionally brought along a friend to help. Since we don't live on-site and the property is a 2-hour drive from Seattle, we didn't see the siding until it was half-completed. Upon inspection, we noticed significant issues and reached out to Cadre General Contractors. They acknowledged the poor quality but only removed two panels before leaving the site for good, spending a mere 10 minutes there, as confirmed by our security cameras. Studio Shed's Response: After Cadre deemed the work acceptable and refused to address our ongoing concerns, we presented photos of the poor-quality work to Studio Shed. Unfortunately, Studio Shed refused to provide any support or acknowledgment of the issues. Despite our clear evidence to the contrary, they deemed the work acceptable and made no effort to rectify the problems, leaving us feeling ignored and unsupported. Resolution Attempts: After realizing our recourse was limited due to having paid in full, we sought legal advice after exhausting all other avenues. A lawyer reviewed our contract and confirmed that pursuing legal action would be prohibitively expensive. Our attempts to communicate with both Cadre and Studio Shed through legal channels were ignored. Recommendation: Given my experience, I strongly advise against paying Studio Shed in full before the work is completed. Instead, engage a trusted local contractor who has reviewed your plans thoroughly and avoid using Studio Shed's recommended contractors. We felt taken advantage of after paying upfront, and Studio Shed's response to the issues was disappointing. I would not recommend Studio Shed based on my experience. If you choose to proceed with them, pay only a minimum deposit and avoid their recommended contractors. Ensure that any contractor you work with is certified and experienced in the specific work required. I was shocked by the poor workmanship of Cadre General Contractors, and Studio Shed's indifference was surprising. Additionally, I encourage you to have a lawyer review any contracts, as this might save you a lot of money in the long run. After dealing with the initial distress, we began meeting with local contractors to remove and replace the siding, and every single one was dismayed by the quality of the work. Most Recent Updates: As previously mentioned, we consulted with six local contractors to assess the work and provide estimates for removing the siding, windows, and doors, and then replacing and reinstalling them correctly. After reviewing their past work, customer experiences, and cost, we selected the contractor that best met our criteria. We have accepted a bid of $37,000 to commence work in September. Quotes from other contractors reached up to $60,000, and each contractor independently confirmed that the siding needed to be completely removed to ensure the job was done correctly. read more

A bit difficult to review as we are 7 months in and have no studio shed yet although they've already asked for payment in full. We selected studio shed over other less expensive companies as they promoted their relationship with certified / recommended contractors. Unfortunately the contractor we were assigned failed to read the plans nor was aware of code requirements in our area (and this is a local contractor). I've reached out to studio shed multiple times over the additional money the contractor is now demanding and their response has been "not our problem" despite them referring us to this contractor as the only "certified installer" in our area. It has been only 15 months since I got my new Studio Shed. It is falling apart: the metal siding on the front is peeling off, the door won't close, the door handle fell off and the door stop they installed has completely rusted out. We live in the San Francisco Bay Area so weather here is not severe. This shed has received very little use since we installed it. for $25,000, you would be much better off getting a local contractor to build something for you - for considerably less money and better workmanship. We have purchased two sheds. The first shed was a home show model already built and shipped down to us that way. It was great. But that was over 7 years ago. Just last year we ordered another shed (we had moved to a new house) but this time had to get a contractor to build onsite. There were nothing but problems with the second shed. I'm honestly exhausted writing about the issues (see Google and Better Business Bureau). To summarize the biggest issues were we told Studio Shed we could accept delivery for a few months and were very specific with the timing. They told us that was fine but out of the blue the flatbed truck tried to drop off all the materials twice without notice and the driver wouldn't even take them off the truck. Needless to say it only got worse from there. Since the licensed contractor was scheduled for a month later to install we had to have all the parts take up our entire garage so we couldn't park there. Then once the contractor could install there was nothing but problems...so much damage. Windows that had broken seals with moisture inside (we live in Arizona with no moisture, came this way yet Studio Shed tried to blame us), horrible cheap plywood rafters (not at all like the photos) with sharpie marks all over the wood which was barely treated, looked like scrap wood someone would throw away; framing uneven, metal roof damaged in a lot of places, many parts out of alignment...the list and my photos go on and on. We immediately told Studio Shed and did calls...then we sent all documentation. We said due to the damage we would not pay what was remaining (they normally take final payment before delivery so this shows you the delivery was screwed up) and they said they would go off and discuss it. Then 5 months later they suddenly only offer a $500 discount which was insulting on such an expensive unit. We told them that was horrible customer service then we hear from a lawyer saying they are going to sue us. Run far away from this company. They lie, their products are sub-quality, and then they say they will sue you when you have done nothing wrong. We have never received even an apology or any sort of professional assistance on this matter. I had a great first experience but maybe now whomever is in charge has let it go downhill. I keep asking to speak to the owner of the company and no one gets back to me. I urge you to look for other prefab/shed solutions so you are not treated this poorly as well. read more

I did my homework while looking for home office solutions. I fell in love with Studio Shed design but was pretty sure I wouldn't able to afford it. Well, they were featured on SUNSET! No, they're not the cheapest but you get what you pay for and the results exceeded my expectations - it looks great ( stylish, functional and cool) and the whole researching/decision making/ buying and delivering process was as smooth as I could dream about. We had a 12x16ft signature series shed installed with an interior plan fall 2018. The customer service support was incredible. We worked with Stuart who could not have been more responsive. We installed this as an ADU and I asked him a million questions along the way. His answers were patient and incredibly timely. We had a similar experience with the engineering team who got us through permitting - all very seamless, super friendly and responsive team. Our main complaint was with the contractor (who is the contractor for studio shed in the Bay Area); he was difficult to communicate with, provided inaccurate estimates, did not give us adequate information that we needed for permitting and installed part of the bathroom shower incorrectly (the effects of which we are still dealing with). In the end, the project got done and we love our shed, but there were some huge stressors along they way due to the contracting team. When I brought these concerns up to the studio shed team, they basically indicated that this wasn't their problem and we had to take it up with the contractor. read more

We live in Los Angeles and wanted to construct a permitted guesthouse in a little used section of our backyard. Having just gone through a lengthy process doing a master bedroom addition, we were very excited by the prefab concept because of the accelerated timeline. So we researched Studio Shed and another pre-fab shed company and decided to go with an 18' x 14' Summit Series Studio Shed because they have more options for placement of windows and doors. We were a bit hesitant to make such a significant purchase without having actually seen it in person, but the 3D design/modeling tool on the website is amazing and allows you to really have sense of how the end product will look, and we felt very comfortable in our interactions via email and phone with Studio Shed personnel (Thanks Ben and Gregg). We ended up having an abnormally long permitting process with the city of LA and Studio Shed was great working with us through a 7 month delay. Once we were able to take delivery our install team was led by Kevin Fiske. He and his crew were great. They were installing 4 units at the same time, so he kept us informed about how the work was going to go, and to coordinate with the city inspectors. They were completely done in less than two weeks and then our local contractor was able to take over to finished the interior work (electrical, plumbing, adding walls for bathroom, etc.). From some of the reviews it seems others may have had a tough time with this project but my wife and i couldn't be more pleased. Our expectations were firmly set from the beginning and we understood that this project is a process. Plans, permits, HOA approvals are all hurdles that we were made aware of by the Studio Shed staff and were overcome, in time, with lots of help from the folks at SS. Simply stated, our experience was great! From our initial ideas to the professional completion of our Studio Shed project, all went as planned. The design is contemporary and clean. It's really good looking (review all the pictures on Houzz or the StudioShed.com site). We wanted a home office as an important addition to our existing home. The folks at Studio Shed were amazing. They helped us configure our studio exactly the way we wanted it, helped with questions on permitting and then scheduled a local professional to complete the installation. Yes, we paid for the install vs. trying it ourselves and felt it was well worth it. The install crew was on time, clean and professional. They answered all our questions and the end result was a beautiful new studio office! I guess you can use it for all sorts of hobbies, workshop, yoga, man-cave or she-shed. They were a complete failure. Very poor communication. I had to write their corporate headquarters once to find if they were still in business. They took a long, long time to slog thru the paper work. Getting information from them was like pulling teeth. Even before construction began they were a failure. After the construction began it became worse. Nice website,good idea, very poor execution. At the end the regional contact said he'd probably be stopping by to address probables with the president of the company. That never happened. No explanation. Just silence. Let me begin by saying I did a lot of research before deciding to go with studio-shed for this project, and even though the product was a bit more expensive than the other options I found, I was won over by apparent quality of the design. Boy was I wrong! I write this to help people avoid the expensive mistake we made. Problems began with delivery. Studio-shed had promised they could delivery to our house. We made preparation accordingly only to find out a few days before delivery that they had changed their delivery system and that we would need to rent a vehicle to meet a semi trailer somewhere along I-5, which forced us to scramble and pay more to get the appropriate truck to transfer the materials to my house. Once we began building the problems really started to pile up. As we unpacked the delivery we realized that pieces were missing. We spoke with studio-shed and they promised to get us those pieces within the week. That didn't happen. Fortunately, these parts were not needed until later in the building process so we were able to begin building. In the process of building we started to see some odd inconsistencies in the CAD drawings. Now, to be clear, we did NOT build this on our own. We had a licensed contractor with extensive experience with both CAD drawings and construction helping us, and even he could not figure out these CAD drawings. It turned out that he couldn't figure them out because they were wrong. There were several major errors in the CAD drawings that Studio-Shed sent us. These errors cost us both time and money to fix. Throughout this process Studio-shed was difficult to work with, originally dismissing the errors as minor and then begrudgingly admitting they were significant. Unfortunately, these problems have turned out to be minor in comparison to what has recently emerged. You see, one of the reasons we went with studio shed was because we loved the look of the outer design, with the large rectangles and exposed metal. What we didn't realize and Studio-shed doesn't want you to know is that if it rains where you live water will get under those tiles, eventually breeding mold. This is why every type of house siding has overlap: to keep water from infiltrating and breeding mold. We have communicated these problems to Studio-shed and they originally seemed willing to work with us, but about 5 months ago they stopped responding to our emails. It is amazing to us that a company with their reputation would actually "ghost" a client, but that is exactly what has happened. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend highly enough that you stay away from Studio-shed. I hope this review helps others avoid the mistake we made. read more
