Ah, Studio City Ace Hardware. The small and expensive little hardware store that is there for you on Sundays. Parking is limited and prices are high, but they are open on Sundays and they are much easier than dealing with Home Depot. If there's something that you need, and you don't want to purchase it on Amazon because you want to feel and see and measure it, this is a nice little shop. I don't come here often because of the prices and the parking, but it's nice to know that Ace in Studio City is there when I need it. They have really good staying power! Cutting to the chase: one of the best (if not THE best) hardware stores in the city (and I mean Los Angeles, not just Studio City). When my project is not urgent, I actually maintain my list till I drive over the hill from West LA to give them my business -- yeah, they are that good. This is a neighborhood hardware store -- but a really great neighborhood hardware store, the endangered species kind. And the prices are spot on! Sure, you may spend a few cents or dollars more than a big box superstore, but you are getting a ton of value for your money. The staff is incredibly helpful, know where things are, walk you to items, ask about your projects, make helpful suggestions, troubleshoot and offer alternatives. And they are friendly! No attitude here. The selection is incredibly deep, and you'll be surprised when you walk in and see the store is much larger than the outside suggests (like the Tardis -- pardon the "Dr Who" reference). I live in an apartment 10 minutes away from Ace Hardware store, so I don't go there that often, but whenever I do, I get an EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE from their employees and the owner. The store is fully stacked, clean, organized, and have everything from A to Z for your home, office, and miscellaneous stuff that comes quite handy and needy. Literally they have everything in the store in the right sections/isles and employees will walk you through everything that you need, looking for and it is right there. Prices are pretty comparable, affordable with other hardware stores. The store is not that small, and it is not that big to navigate and it really gives you the vibe of a cozy, ancient, but not old feeling. :)) LOVE IT!!!! This review has been WAY OVERDUE!! Always wanted to write it and somehow it just wasn't happening. I am glad I finally did!! Will be back if and when I need to purchase more hardware store for my apartment. Been coming to this hardware store for nearly 30 years. Not only is everyone in there helpful and knowledgeable but they literally have everything you need. Is the parking lot small? Yes. But i have been the only car in the lot many time. Plus street parking is a thing. Is it more expensive than Home Depot? Yes, but you're paying for the convenience of not having to go to a Home Depot. PLUS if you live in one of the 40s houses in the area they have things for your house that Home Depot doesn't carry. read more

I was looking for a Dremel accessory set, and this was the nearest Ace I mapped to my new place. I was expecting an Ace similar to the one I loved in South Pasadena. This was labeled as an Ace but looked more like a small, mom-and-pop shop... no big deal but just not what I was expecting. There is a very small lot with space for maybe 5 cars, and difficult to get in/out when other cars are coming and going. The layout is really weird and the selection wasn't impressive. I came here because Ace usually has more rotary tool stuff than Home Depot, but here, there was only one,overpriced basic set. I asked the woman in the Customer Service booth where to find it. She had a face mask hanging under her chin, and didn't bother putting it on when she apathetically handed the set to me. When I checked out, another cashier (besides the one checking me out) stepped in front of my window to help another customer, and dropped a huge binder over my item to try to look up an item. I couldn't reach through the clear partition to grab it and I had to wait for her to move so that I could take my purchase, sign the card receipt, and leave. She didn't acknowledge me or say "excuse me" either, as if I were invisible. It's worth it to drive further or even give your money to a bigger corporate devil hardware store than to go here. read more

BEWARE- If you are a woman; especially a woman of color - DO NOT GO INTO THIS STORE. Unbeknownst to me I entered the store five minutes before closing, as did several other people behind me. The difference was I was berated by an employee named Max who yelled at me that they were closing in five minutes. I said well can I look around? And he turned his back to me. So my daughter and I split up to look for the items we came to get. A short Latino man walked behind my young daughter and repeatedly asked her if she needed help. I quickly scanned the aisles and did not find the item I was looking for. My daughter did find her item. There's something to be said about neighborhood businesses that have been in existence in their original location for well over 60 years... Given the architecture and location at this particular hardware store - my guess is that it opened somewhere in the 1950s, and somehow managed to continue to be a mainstay in Studio City. Besides the nostalgic kick of shopping at a place that I remember going to with my father when I was five years old... what's truly amazing is how fully stocked and convenient this hardware store manages to always be. I can't remember a single time I walked in needing something very specific - a miniature lightbulb, a rare battery, a specific cleaning agent, a certain kind of glue or hardware - and left not having in hand what I'd come in for. They also have one of the best key replication stations in existence - any kind of key, and you can get it done usually within five minutes... And it cost about half of what Angel City Locksmith down the street will charge! Another fun benefit given it's location is that on any given Saturday you might well run into one or two celebrities who live in the area, baseball caps pulled low over their eyes, clearly working hard to "blend in". So that always makes it a bit more fun! Pricing is more expensive than what you would pay most likely in a Home Depot, given the fact that rare brands are far more conveniently found, and of course the location - which at this point is a very pricey one. The major drawback continues to be the parking: they have a parking lot that basically allows for six cars at a time - hardly enough for the flow of customers... So sometimes you will end up circling the block for parking several rounds. But if you're in the area, and you do need to pick up anything from household cleaning supplies to lightbulbs to specialty products for a certain home improvement project you're in the middle of... This is absolutely a joy to shop at. ... and... you might just get those 1950s vibes that make you feel you've stepped into Doc Brown's time machine :) Must Go. read more

My son had a project for school that required a jig saw (5th grade, stay with me ). I searched a few hardwares spots that carried several variations of saws but the prices were more than I was willing to spend. I came across this small hardware store in Studio City. I immediately noticed the small parking lot that had a line. After finding a space on the street I arrived to the store. The place felt small and jammed but there were so many products for almost anything you needed. I found the jig saw at a reasonable price but of coarse my son chose the most expensive one....I put it back and bought another that worked just fine. I love hardware stores with a small-town feel. It's nothing like the giant mega-hardware stores that make you feel overwhelmed as soon as you walk in. This place is fully stocked - from the floor to the ceiling - and it will probably have what you need, but you'll need to find it first. That isn't difficult though, because the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. I came for a garage door opener. I was helped immediately upon entering and the young man that showed me the variety of openers they had was knowledgable and also carefully explained the return policy and even how to set it up! I was in and out in 10 minutes! MUCH more pleasant than the mega-hardware stores. Parking in their tiny lot is not advisable - it fills up fast with larger trucks and is tough to navigate. Do not go here! No one is trained & no one gives a crap. I needed a heavy duty extension cord for a microwave. The first guy handed me a light duty cord for Fans & I said I don't think this is right & he replied it wasn't his section. Another guy came by & wasn't helpful either & then literally turned his back & walked away. I read each of the tags & found one that mentioned heavy duty appliances & specified microwaves, refrigerators, etc., for 20 amps like Google research suggested. The cord was plugged into itself. Your friendly neighborhood hardware store. Just be warned, you may end up at Home Depot anyways... I really like this shop. It has almost everything you might be looking for (more on this later), and it's closer to my house than a Home Depot, or Lowe's. So usually, if I'm looking for some hardware this is my first stop. They re very helpful, and it's nice to be able to make a quick stop to the hardware store. However, there selection is somewhat limited. They don't have appliances, and they may not carry the specific tool, or the brand that you might be looking for. Also, there selection of individual items is also somewhat limited. Don't like the one particular door knob that they have? Well too bad, because that might be the only one they carry. Some other things you should know: there's only one register, so depending on how many other customers there are in the store, you may have to wait to check out. Also, the aisles are very narrow, they've crammed as much as they can into the space, so (and this is not an exaggeration) if someone else is in an aisle, you may not be able to get through. There is a side parking lot off of Ventura, but fair warning, it is very small and you may have to end up parking on Ventura anyway. But it's nice that it's there. So, like I said. I really like this little shop. It's close to my house, and they usually have everything that I need. However, there selection is limited by the size of their location so there have been times that I've just had to go to Home Depot to get what I need. read more

WARNING!!!! During the pandemic, ace hardware studio city employees were allowing a belligerent customer to not wear a mask OR social distance. I simply asked the woman without the mask to step back while I was at the register and she was 2 inches behind me-she then proceeded to swear at me and attacked me verbally. The employee with the long black hair, a young woman, refused to intervene. I asked her to kick the customer without the mask out and asked for the Manager. An older lady said she was the Manager-she also did nothing. Literally. Walked out, got in car. Asked a young male employee in parking lot for name of owner of this franchise-didn't care whatsoever. Told me he was gonna call the police on ME for being pissed and saying I would report this store to Corporate. SHAME ON YOU WEAK FOLKS who can't even open your mouthes and say something. It's not Home Depot, so you won't get the lowest prices. But it's also not a rip off, so you'll be paying reasonable prices for the convenience of the location. You'll see the difference in prices, but it's not enough to upset you or put a hole in your wallet. After all, they need to run a business and you're paying for the convenience. The majority of the employees are so under-informed have a lack of tact and the incapacity to know how to deal with clients. Unfortunately it's true that good help is hard to find.
