The artichoke Francese was tasty, although it reminded me more of a pesto-style preparation than a traditional Francese. My wife had the quinoa-stuffed eggplant, which was good overall, but the sauce served with it was noticeably bitter. Overall, we enjoyed our evening, especially because of the great service and atmosphere. For the price of the food, though, it probably wouldn't be my first choice for dinner. That said, the service and setting are definitely worth experiencing, so I'd still recommend giving The Nest a try.

THE ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant is on the water with bar seating and white cloth table dining in several rooms. If you're looking for seaside dining Pirates Cove will suite you fine. THE FOOD: Our appetizers... My French onion soup was made like a traditional French onion soup with plenty of melted cheese and oodles of onions. There were plenty of mussels bathed in a delicious white wine and butter base for my brides mussels appetizer. Our entrees... My seafood platter featured a small serving of white fish, which was nice and juicy, two small stuffed shrimp, which were quite tasty, two scallops made properly (not under cooked and slimy or overcooked and rubbery). My brides shrimp scampi featured 5 small shrimp over a bed of linguine. The dish was well made with hints of garlic and butter in the balanced cream sauce. The dessert: Our caramel cheesecake dessert was creamy and rich. THE SERVICE: It's always a challenge for a server to serve large parties, but our server did great. Delivered our drinks in a timely fashion watched over us for any needed refills and clearly explained any questions we had. THE BOTTOM LINE: As always with my reviews, the "customer so what" would I return is complicated for the Pirates Cove. My answer... probably not. Why not if the food was prepared properly, the ambiance was fitting for a seafood restaurant and the service was fine? The answer lies in serving size, price and add on charges. I don't mind paying premium prices for a premium meal but Pirates Cove charged $40 for a seafood platter that should more realistically be called a seafood sampling. At $36 My wife's shrimp scampi should have featured large shrimp instead of the small shrimp she received. And, finally, the add on prices which included a 3% service charge and a whopping 21% tip. I don't mind tipping heavily for good service and our server would have probably gotten 25% if it was my choice. However, I HATE having a restaurant dictate what I'll tip! I understand mandatory tipping for a large party but I've never seen it set at 21%! As for the service charge, it was placed on every bill whether you paid with a credit card or not. One of my guests asked if that was a credit card fee (which I hate as well) and was told if he paid cash, our servers would take that fee off. How many people didn't know enough to ask that question, and end up paying that fee when paying with cash?? I hate underhanded trickery like that and discourage it by not returning. In summary you'll have to ask yourself before dining at Pirates Cove, is the food, ambiance and service quality worth the rest? If it is, enjoy. As for me, I'll skip it. There are too many other great seafood places that will provide quality dining, great service and atmosphere without the unwelcome luggage included.

According to the website, reservations are necessary. However, it took a while for me to make them because the online software kept saying I was too early to make them. I called and left a message twice but never received any return call. We almost considered not going, and we were not asked about our reservations (that I was finally able to make online). We arrived when they opened at noon (on a weekday), and other than one other table that arrived soon after us, we were the only ones there until we left a little over an hour later. Still, this place wasn't full, so I'm not sure about the hype concerning the need for reservations. There was only 1 server, who was very friendly and helpful but seemed overly busy. It looked as if a manager might have wandered in and out briefly. The kitchen is open, so there was a bit of noise coming from there. This place is not very large. The food was very good. We both enjoyed the soup. I had the Southwestern veggie, which was the soup of the day. It was very spicy, but I was able to tone it down with some sour cream. We shared the Margarita flatbread. It was very good. The tomatoes were extra delicious. My date had the lobster and shrimp bisque and loved it. He also had the strip steak, which he ordered medium well, but it wasn't, more like medium rare. He had the brussel sprouts and potatoes as sides and really liked them. I had the Baja cod tacos, blackened, and I would definitely get them again but ask for the sauce to be on the side instead of drizzled everywhere but on the actual tacos. It was difficult to scoop it up and get it on my tacos. I also had a side of potatoes, and they were wonderful, thin layers with generous amounts of cheese. I took most of them home (we had lots of leftovers) and they reheated really well. We tried two desserts: a flourless chocolate cake and a carrot cake. The desserts were the only dishes we weren't impressed with. The chocolate cake was ho-hum, basically tasted like fudge. The carrot cake was 80% raisins and other dried fruit.

I would have preferred wonton chips or tortilla chips. We also had the crab fritters, these were delicious and plentiful for two people and the Burrata salad. We wanted the Brussels sprouts, but they were out so the chef prepared Bok Choi instead. Equally delicious. We ordered an infused cucumber refreshing cocktail. The service was very good. The owner stopped by our table, to ask how we liked it. He was gracious and told us his story how he bought the placed and design a menu along with the Chef. That was a plus. They also have music for dinner. Parking is street. The Tram goes around and it will leave you at this restaurant from the large parking lot. THE AMBIANCE: Once you climb the stairs (yes they have an outdoor elevator), you'll enter a wide expanse of the St Lucie River with hundreds of boats at dock. The view is simply stunning. You can choose to sit inside (why you'd make this choice is beyond me), or if you like music, choose the active fun loving crowd on the patio bar or dine dockside where you'll have an expansive view of the river. We chose the latter. Either way, this is an experience dining unlike any other in the Stuart area. THE SERVICE: We were served by Anna. With a smile and a an enthusiasm that showed she loved her job, she explained a bit of the history of the restaurant and gave a thorough overview of the offerings. Anna was a servers server who knew when to stop by without being intrusive, when to fill our glasses and when to be there when we needed her. I'm not sure if all the serving staff are as good as Anna but, If you're lucky enough to get one of her tables count your blessings. Even the buss boys served with a smile and efficiency that you don't often see. On one occasion one of our party spilled catchup and asked for an additional napkin. The buss boy didn't go and tell the server (which is the norm) but instead "immediately" returned with a napkin and cleaned the spill himself. In today's "I hate my job" world, it was so nice to experience a time when staff served with a smile that conveyed "I love my job"! THE FOOD: For our appetiser, we chose to share a bowl of their Maryland Crab Soup. The menu states "Tomato broth, vegetables, crab meat". Doesn't sound like much, right? But, don't let that simple description fool you, this slightly spicy soup was a delicious meal in itself. I highly recommend you share a bowl if you intend to leave room for an entree. For our entrees, my lovely bride chose to start with the Tide Chopped Salad which features fresh greens, tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, radish, and avocado, graced with an outstanding sherry vinaigrette. From there she chose the Steak and Shrimp combo which featured a 10oz NY Strip & 3 jumbo fried shrimp. She added the garlic mashed potatoes. Her mashed potatoes were scrumptious and her jumbo shrimp combined a crispy breadcrumb topping complimenting the juicy shrimp within. Tough and a bit grizzly, unfortunately, the steak was the outlier to the rest of the dish. I chose the Steak & Cake combo with coconut rice and macaroni and cheese sides. Because they're usually bread cakes with a few pieces of crab hidden throughout, I'm not usually a crab cake lover but, Anna Banana (her suggestion of a name) convinced me that, because the new owner came from Maryland and brought with him his family crab cake recipe, I needed to "experience" the best crab cake I'll ever have, and so, I took the plunge. Sadly, my steak was just as poor a cut of beef as my wife's but those crab cakes... oh those crab cakes were everything Anna Banana said, and than some! I've never had a crab cake that came close! The crab cakes come with a mustard base dipping sauce but, believe me, you'll not want to mar the perfection by dipping. My sides were also great. The coconut rice was not overpowering with just a hint of coconut as an aftertaste and my macaroni & cheese (which I don't usually order unless I have kids with me) was creamy and cheesy. For dessert, we decided to try the Key Lime pie. Not sure about the rest of the desserts but the Key Lime pie was a definite winner with just the right tartness resting on a tasty graham cracker crust (as a true Key Lime pie should have) and a wonderfully creamy texture. THE BOTTOM LINE: As with all my reviews the "customer so what" is would I come back? Even though I'd stay away from the steaks, you bet I'd come back! I would ask for the deck dining room, be seated in Anna "Bananas" serving area and make sure I included those out of this world crab cakes in my meal!

We live at the marina so the Tidehouse (or is it "House"??) is a go to for us. I say "House"…read morebecause the "Tide" sign on the water side is continually out! We've mentioned it to management several times however they seem surprised (& unconcerned) each time. Routinely the service is good, food is good....however they are not focused on customer service. They are often more concerned with closing the restaurant than providing great customer service as well as honoring their published hours. On more than one occasion, we have called to place a to go order and they have closed the kitchen early (after being told by the server, they would not close before 10p that Friday night). Also on more than one occasion, they have a bar full of people (wanting to stay, drink & spend more $$) and they bring the check to close the tab so the staff (or manager!) can leave. AND this all has happened during OFF SEASON! Being well educated in the hospitality industry, it's clear to me Tidehouse is not well run from the top down. This is unfortunate since it's such a perfect location with beautiful views.

It honestly felt a little ridiculous to be singled out and spoken to like we were causing some major disturbance. We came in excited to try a local place that several friends had recommended, and the whole interaction really changed the tone of the evening and made us feel unwelcome. If this were a quiet fine-dining restaurant, I could understand it a little more, but at a bar during Sunday football, this just seemed excessive. Unfortunately, what started out as a good experience ended up leaving a pretty bad impression, and I'm not sure we'll be back.
