I go there for the art openings and open mic. I always have a great time! The art exhibits are enriching. They provide health services, too.

EMR ain't no picnic either. Both have their pluses and minuses. Don't fault people for the paper. -Yup, I had one billing mistake, one address mistake and two medical history mistakes. This isn't the Drs fault. It's the medical assistants fault who either misheard or wrote down the information incorrectly. When Dr.Hom reviewed the information, we reviewed what the MA wrote down was wrong. MA's don't have a ton of training people. Couple weeks to months of coursework. If your blood pressure comes back wonky atypical for your normal range or a weird note appears in your record, just review it with the doctor. -Dr. Hom was very personable.I saw her for an annual and preconception visit. But, yes, as other reviewers have stated she does have a thing about chubbers. And, to some degree, understandably so, extra weight can have fertility and pregnancy implications. That said, I don't think she was particularly rude about it. She just suggested I cut carbs. As a lifelong hourglass thicc human: dearest doctor, it would be cool if it was all that simple. Like you, I too, was a ballerina. And in my post ballet afterlife I have come to carry all my junk in my hips and thighs. I don't eat many carbs or much meat though. I'm just shaped like my curvy latin family. All doctors make assumptions and have bias- I would say hers seemed fairly standard and innocuous as things go. Having seen three other obgyn during my last pregnancy and taken a tour of the dysfunctional offices of SF, I feel reasonably assured saying this one is medium good. Definitely fine for a simple pap at least. (Extra star 'cause I just really appreciated Dr. Homs personality. Personality matters when you've got someone poking around down there.)

Dr. Karen Chu saved my life…read more On July 9, 2013 during a routine gyno, she detected a lump in my left breast. I was 40. She sent me to get a mammogram; a tumor was identified. Long and scary story short, I was advised a lumpectomy but opted (inspired by Angelina Jolie) to get a double mastectomy. Good thing I did as they said the labs indicated early stage developing in the right breast! Fast-forward 11 years later...my team of doctors have told me I do not need to come back for annual exams and that I was officially cured! A CT scan, MRI & ordered bloodwork all verified I was healthy. I was also told through genetics that had another year gone by the stage would have been higher (I was stage 1 and with no node involvement) and who knows if I would be here today writing this. I had been seeing Dr Chu annually for my Gyno appointments for 5 years prior to the appointment in 2013 where she discovered the lump. I always thought she knew what she was doing and respected her approach. I am extremely grateful. And so is my family. My son is now 15 years old. I will always have the deepest appreciation for Dr. Chu as I am able to be here and live a beautiful life with my family and watch my son grow up.

Dr Chu was like a breath of fresh air. I finally got to experience what it means to receive patient centered care. She listens, she explains, she reads your chart before you get there, she actually knows what's going on with you before you get in the examination room. She answers questions and gives you options, she is through and double checks to make sure you are okay. I can't praise her enough.

He never treats you like just a "patient"; he treats you like a person, listening closely and offering thoughtful, expert guidance. I have severe DOR, and Dr. Cakmak has supported my husband and me with incredible care and determination, always working toward the best possible outcome--and he has truly delivered. Our last RE left us feeling completely hopeless. We searched everywhere for help until my UCSF neurologist referred me to Dr. Cakmak. From our very first meeting, everything clicked. He draws everything out on paper, takes his time, and makes sure you understand exactly what's happening in your body. He is, without question, a true genius. What we appreciate most is his care, compassion, and commitment to our future goals. Five stars hardly feels enough for Dr. Cakmak and his team--Jill, Katherine, and Rae! They are truly the best in the business. You are in amazing hands with them!

I strongly advise seeking care elsewhere…read more You may meet your doctor at the initial consultation, but don't expect to see them again throughout your cycle. While you're told that your doctor will be "supervising," in reality you're shuttled between different providers: a nurse does your ultrasounds, another doctor reviews them, that doctor sends a note to a nurse, and finally the nurse calls you with instructions. This game of telephone is not only impersonal, it also led to miscommunication and errors in my care. And if you actually have questions for your doctor, good luck. The experience felt HIGHLY impersonal. If you have questions, you're told to ask your nurse , who often doesn't know and has to forward them to your doctor, who may or may not ever call you back. Often resulting in hours of waiting with anxiety. While this clinic may have decent success numbers, the process feels more like standing in line at the DMV than receiving supportive, personalized fertility care. With so many other options in San Francisco, I would not recommend choosing this clinic. Do not be fooled at the consultation.

I had not realized at the time that things were so serious, but she truly did make a life-altering decision. The CON (and why minus 1-star): Dr. Robertson runs LATE. And sometimes she runs very late. In fact, the first time I was supposed to see her, she was running 2 hours behind! I had to leave and go to Starbucks and wait for them to call me back on my cell phone because I was not going to wait in the waiting room for 2 hours. I was livid and when I finally saw her for the first time, I gently, but sternly let her have it. I told her how much I did not appreciate it, that my time was valuable, and did she always run this late because I would not continue seeing her if so, etc., etc. And I was right. She was apologetic, but let me know that she runs late because she does not rush her patients and will spend as much time as is needed with them. Given that she is a high-risk OB/GYN, and only in hindsight, this makes absolute sense. The PROS: She is careful, methodical, diligent, and confident in her expertise. It was only at my next appointment with her that I truly understood the benefit of her approach of spending as much time as is needed with her patients. I had gone in for my regular OB check at about 31 weeks and then I was going to return to work. She was thorough, and it was clear she had looked carefully at my chart. She answered my questions in a professional and non-condescending manner. She examined me and said things seemed to be looking good, but given my medical history and issues up to that point, she had me go down to ultrasound to be sure. She told me to come back afterward and we would discuss the findings. The findings were that my scrumptious 2lb 9 oz baby girl was not weighing what she should given her gestational age. She handed me my entire medical chart and told me to head on down to the main hospital to get checked out. I ended up being admitted to the hospital for 5 days before having a C-Section because she was in distress and not growing properly. Daughter is perfectly fine and a wonderful handful 14 months later. I have seen quite a few physicians on OB/GYN service at UCSF because you can see who you want based on their expertise/specialization or your whim, basically. I like that. I have not been happy with every doc on the service either. When I went for my postnatal checkup, I apologized to her for being so upset with her during my first visit (I don't even think she really remembered that). And I expressed my understanding of the value in taking extra time with patients. I've seen the "speedy, know-it-all" doctors on service, and I'd take Dr. Robertson and a Starbucks latte while I wait, any day!
