An example of their all out pestering to remind me of an appointment

Robo nightmare! These folks give your info to robo dialers who call all the time, like 10 Times a day.. when you answer they put you on hold... then they ask all sorts of personal questions before they will tell you why they called... after 10 min they told me they were confirming my appointment! WTf : waste my time Never again

I hate to say it, but I am a frequent flyer at Simonmed imaging in Daly City. I'd have to say, I've had at least a dozen MRIs in my life and I know what the service should look like and what the experience should be. I am not disappointed, nor am I happy with this place, I am neutral in my judgment. Our experience was hit and miss today. The place is pretty inconspicuous and if you weren't paying attention, you'd pass it up. It kinda looks like a free city clinic from the front. And the inside kind of resembles one as well. As soon as we walked in, the lady at the counter greeted us and said she would be with us as soon as possible, very friendly. We sat there for a good 10 to 15 minutes, before being called The Daly city location, seems to have a different system. When I've gone there at opening, I had never seen an employee walk in to work. As far as I was concerned, they were all there half an hour prior to opening. It's a different story here. As we are waiting, I watched a young employee walk in, that look like she just woken up or got two hours of sleep. The next gentleman showed up and he looked like he was running late and not prepared. The third lady was the worst. She was loud, unprofessional and yelling, "Thank God it's Friday, Thank God it's Friday". WTH??? If I'm running any kind of clinic or imaging company, I would make sure that my employees walked in, in a professional manner, kept their conversations low and conducted themselves professional manner. They'd arrive at least 15 minutes prior to opening. It kind of reminded me how a free clinic operates and had a mental ward feel, kinda low budget. My girlfriend's name was called and she walked in the door to the right of the front counter. She was really happy with the service. The tall gentleman that helped her, was professional, kind and understanding to her situation. By the way, he was already there when we got there and he carried himself in a professional manner. At the end of the day, an MRI is an MRI, no matter where you get it. But what makes the difference is the level of care and professionalism that you expect. There is a parking garage to the right of SimonMed. If you have a bigger car, truck or SUV, I do not recommend you park in here. The driving lanes are steep, narrow and the parking spaces are small. Try to find street parking.

The appointment only took about 15 minutes for me, I scheduled it on the same day and then pulled up 5 minutes before the appointment. Staff took care of me and helped me adjust my positioning to get the most accurate scan. I got my results within a few hours online and I saw a full breakdown of my fat percentage, lean mass, bone density, etc... I would say it was a good value for the price and you can find discount codes online if you do some research (or use an LLM). Parking is kind of a pain though.

I'll cut to the chase and tell you it was surprisingly accurate, and within the margin of error, although Dexa is the "gold standard." I won't bore you with the metrics but I will bore you with the experience. First off, the location for the mobile service has ample parking and was conveniently located. The mobile van was clean, the technician - Suhban Khan was very professional and knowledgeable. Like myself, he was also a fitness coach and had solid knowledge not only with Dexa but also the leading body composition measurement devices on the market and smart scales. We had a good chat and I interviewed him briefly for the YouTube channel. If you want to watch, here's the link: https://youtu.be/eJ9x2bf5QHA?si=sytHprsQ9ydwYn-R The scan took about 10 minutes time, with 6 minutes for the scan. You just wear light, loose clothing and lay back, while the scanner passes from your head to your feet. It moves a fraction every 30 seconds. The van was mostly quiet with ambient music - felt very much like any medical setting. Is this a necessary experience for everyone? No. For most people seeking general health I would recommend getting the good habits of proper nutrition, exercise and proper rest before worrying about getting a Dexa but...it will help keep you accountable to your goals and honestly, the subscription service is pretty affordable. I enjoyed my experience and will check in again in a few months.

However, if you are claustrophobic, have medical issues that make getting in and out of an MRI difficult, require any modifications (even minor) to their standard protocol, or are unsure about how you will react to contrast, go elsewhere. On the plus side, they have multiple MRIs of different types and sizes. When you are booking or ask a question, they will often respond with the name of the machine or the room number as if the typical patient knows that info. I have been here several times and have had more than a dozen MRIs in my life at various facilities. So many times I have walked out of this facility. Two things are needed to get a good screening - the right machine and the right tech. I have had multiple instances when they have booked me in the wrong machine. I have also had them switch the machine at the last minute to the wrong one. They have some good techs, but you don't know who you'll get. They have too many techs who are very inexperienced. They have book knowledge only; that stops them from adjusting to the patient. For people with claustrophobia, the tech needs to listen carefully and adjust. If the patient cannot handle a head cage, insisting on putting barriers around the head and adding foam blocks creates an unsafe environment. This is especially egregious when the patient has had successful MRIs of head and neck with none of this. It is actually optional if you can stay still. But inexperienced techs will push for what they have been told is the norm. There is also an issue of techs not knowing how to help people who struggle to get up onto the machine bed. Add to that that people who are injured enough to need their services walk down slick hallways in hospital socks. Also, many older people are helped by being able to keep their glasses and hearing aids until they are on the machine. Taking them early, which they always do, adds risk of falls and disorientation. The greatest issue with techs is simply not listening to the expressed needs of patients. If someone says they need the room well lit, that doesn't mean turning on the light in the machine while keeping the room dark. Requests for time to settle in and zone out before starting are interrupted by chatter expected to calm you. However, having a tech repeatedly tell you that they know it's tight in the machine and that it is really hard to handle only adds to the stress. Additional issues are layering on blankets when the patient says they don't want one, touching the patient without notice, and tossing sheets over your face. If things go poorly and you ask for space, many of the techs, in trying to be compassionate, will touch you or follow you around. Again, this exacerbates the problem. Then they'll suggest you try meds. If you can't, they stare at you like that is the most bizarre thing they have ever heard. Some will even push the meds as if they are fun. Finally, I was there one time when a patient had a severe reaction to the contrast. She was treated like she was being dramatic. This worsened when they pulled a curtain and spoke about her, assuming she couldn't hear. We both could. She needed a shot of epi and to be sent to the ER but they saw breathing difficulties, striations, and a rapidly spreading rash as nothing. They seemed to care more about getting her out of there than helping her. Personally, I need an MRI but I will not be able to get one. Guess we'll wait until I'm passed out in an ER.

If you hate your job, maybe you shouldn't be the one checking in people. My check in experience was just terrible. I felt talked down to while the entire time this girl was so incompetent. I knew she was charging me incorrectly and I brought it up. However, seems she didn't really care and was getting annoyed. I was getting nowhere with her and obviously had to get the imaging done so I just had to suck it up. Never did she offer any info on how to contact billing until I asked. Next was the imaging order. Not sure why they don't have it already but I only have an electronic copy. So I mentioned that and asked if I can email it. Again she acted all snobby and acted as if I was asking the most obvious question. As if I knew the answer already on where to email it to vs uploading it into my user portal. As I was waiting, I noticed this terrible attitude given towards other check in patients. Everyone received that cold, snobby attitude. So I guess it was nice that I wasn't targeted, but she really should not be there if she has such a terrible attitude. Although I had an appointment, they weren't on time but at least this tech has way better manners. However, no one told me during the appointment booking or when I was confirming my appointment to come in without emptying my bladder and it was to be done right before imaging. Seems such important info if it was that critical for imaging, should really be known to patients beforehand. So guess what. I awkwardly tried to sit on the toilet trying to pee for a period of time cause every normal person goes at home before leaving the house. As I was finally done with my appointment. I noticed they changed people at the check in counter. This other girl seems way nicer and more patient with those checking in regardless if they are able to communicate or not due to a language barrier.

I was about 8 weeks and didn't have a doctor here, so my doctor in Chicago referred me to this center for an ultrasound. I called to see if they accepted my insurance, and they said they did. On the first visit, we didn't hear a heart beat, so naturally scheduled a follow-up for the following week, at which time we did hear one. On both visits, we did not see a doctor, just the technician, who performed the vaginal ultrasound and did not give us much information. She said she would give updates to my doctor in Chicago, who then called us with information. We switched insurance right after, due to the move and new job, and I found an OB here. At the same time, I got the bill from UCSF--$2K per ultrasound, for a total of $4K. The ultrasound had a bunch of tacked on costs, like doctor's fee (I'm guessing the tech showed it to a doctor there), facility fee, etc. Insurance said they would only cover half of each, so we're paying $2K out of pocket. To make it worse, USCF doesn't have an automated monthly billing option, so I have to log in every month which reminds me (hence this review--I just made a payment!). When we went to my first OB visit, he was going to perform an ultrasound, but I hesitated and asked how much it would cost. He said even if insurance didn't cover it, the cost would be about $300. (Insurance did cover it). This is mostly FYI for those of you that may be going there for a basic ultrasound or something, to know about the additional fees that get tacked on, which your insurance may decide not to cover. We would have been better off going to a doctor's office or something without insurance and paying out of pocket, rather than a research hospital/facility that has a lot of additional fees.
