Only one staff member (phlebotomist) at any time that is unable to answer questions about testing done at facility. I needed quantitative results for bloodwork for an elective test for my school and they just responded "I don't know, didn't you buy the test?" to asking to verify this test was not qualitative. The Quest website did not provide this information and I am disappointed that there is no clerical staff at all at the center to assist if laboratory staff will dismiss questions because they don't know. read more

The bathroom was dirty , no toilet cover, the floor was wet, not for handicap. The urine specimen area has drinking bottles. Lots room open with so much stuff, very disorganized office not proper professional.. the way for getting the a appointment or walk out is a nightmare if you you have no knowledge of how computer systems, especially for elderly, oh the other things is they use paper tape instead of pressure tape, that I have blood soaked dressing. Generally have good service. But came in today with no appointment. There was 2 techs. No other patients but the one they took in before me and they asked me to leave since I had no appointment and to go somewhere else. I asked why, as there was no one else in the office and they had 2 techs. And he said we aren't doing any walk in patients today. It was 10am. No reason. extremely bad experience, I twisted my ankle getting out of the cab and was 19 minutes late. I took the day off of work to just give a blood test, that's it nothing more. I was told they were closing for lunch and get this they couldn't work me in for a blood test. It's not so bad I get it but "hey I'm closing for lunch and I can't work you in and out next appt. This Quest is in a medical building downtown, easily accessible by bus, Bart, or walking if you work downtown. It is now staffed apparently by one person. They are scheduled out 3 weeks. That means if you have an appointment with one of the doctors in the building, and need a lab you have to go standby. Quest allows this. When I went in there was no one in the waiting room. Tech came out and said I'm not taking walk-ins, go to the Castro. Then took another walk-in. Still empty waiting room. I'm not going to get into the attitude, I'd say they were having a bad day, but look at the other ratings. This tech needs two things. One, another person to help. Two, a person who is more skilled at draws without and mentor this tech so they can do draws without the imperiousness. Quest needs to staff this site better, or another blood-draw company (Labcorp or other) needs to rent an office in this building, they'd easily compete. Be a better business Quest. read more

Went here last week for a screening and am amazed at how unprofessional the young lady was who helped me with my screening. Being rude is one thing and tolerable but most importantly she was not mindful of privacy and wanted to freely talk about what I'm being screened for. There were many people in the waiting room and I felt violated for having to disclose all this out loud. She told me that she's trying to gauge whether or not she should take me since it was 30 minutes before closing and will not entertain talking to me without disclosing this confidential info in the waiting room, which is a whole different set of complaints. You could tell she felt tremendous joy w/ all the power and control that she had over the situation. I realize this company is a monopoly and if we need to be screened for important health reasons, we need to take the berating/discrimination but still Quest should do a better job of hiring more ethical people. read more

They are closed from 12-1pm for lunch. I arrived at 11:25am and signed in at the kiosk (no one was at the front desk). I waited till 11:50am before someone came out and said the person ahead of me was her last patient and to come back at 1pm and I would have to sign in again. I understand as a walk-in, you might have to wait a long time. But to wait in the lobby for 30 mins before being able to talk to someone and being sent away is ridiculous. They should have notified on the kiosk that I need to come back after 1pm or close the kiosk for walk-ins if they are full. Wasted my time. read more

I scheduled an appointment at this location for a blood test about a week in advance. I did not know that this would be the last appointment of the day for this location before they closed. Upon arriving, I was greeted by an unnamed technician who quickly began berating me for not having payed in advance for my appointment. I tried calmly explaining that there was no option for me to pay in advance online. I will take responsibility for being about 10 minutes late due to traffic. I tried to call in advance to warn the staff but could not reach anyone. He then told me that the office closed in 7 minutes and that we could not proceed with my testing. I am a first time patient at Quest so I understood that there might be some confusion. However, that was no excuse for the rude, abrasive, agitated response from staff. Additionally, Quest might consider a longer appointment duration than 15 minutes for first-time customers. read more

Today I had my appointment at 450 Sutter at 1040am, after walking to the office, I was late and the kiosk canceled my appointment. There was another person waiting for his appointment. When the technician called him, I told him that when I checked in, I was canceled and put myself on a walk in status. He took me after he was done with the other person. The staff are the absolute slowest phlebotomists I have ever experienced. They have zero sense of urgency, the fumble thru check in to what it seems like they are either incompetent and more likely have no value for patients' time. They do what seems like them minimum amount of work at a snail's pace so they don't have to work in walk ins. It's obvious they are understaffed and always on break or going in break. Now understand way the medical office I worded for part time never wanted to send our patients to quest. We had constant complaints about customer service, not being able to walk in or schedule a timely appointment. I miss the days when my insurance covered Labcorp. I dread going into quest. Out of all the times I've been there only once did I have a positive experience. It makes me want to pay out of pocket just to avoid using them. If you have a choice with your insurance go somewhere else. read more

One person working the front desk and doing all the blood draw work. I felt sorry for her. When we got there an hour and 15 minutes before closing, there was one person waiting. He had been waiting for two hours. We never got to have the blood drawn as the phlebotomist said they close promptly so three people in the waiting room (including us) wasted their time waiting. Just a terribly run place. While we were there they only took in two people. Please tell your doctors not to use them (and require you to use them) and to the company - hire more people and stop being so cheap. Martin and Gia are top notch. Few things to consider before you head into the lab, like going to DMV, you have to make sure you have all your ducks in a row, 1. Lab Order Paper work, 2. Insurance Info, 3. ID and MOST IMPORTANT to arrive at least 12-15 mins before your scheduled time. Understanding that these are prerequisites for a successful visit, Martin and Gia have been so great to work with. Trying to make accommodations for late birds, while juggling people with unrealistic standards in regards to time is an art, they manage to always be graceful and sweet! It takes a few extra minutes once you get into the building to make it up to the suite, so make sure you allot those minutes for travel time. read more

For a simple urine test I had to go twice because the nurse got it wrong. Instead of being curtious about her mistake she was not very nice. Also she didn't draw blood for all the tests. The nurse was unprofessional and made this into a bad experience. I have to re-do the blood test again for my full blood chemistry. Poor experience, lack of attention and courtesy. This is the closest Quest near me so I went to this one instead of UCSF. It's also cheaper than UCSF. I'm sorry for people who had a bad experience here but my experience was just fine. I made an appointment online and got a confirmation email with QR code. When I got there the chairs were spaced out accordingly, the nurse there was in full PPE and I scanned my QR code. The phlebotomist was efficient. I got my blood drawn quickly and I was out of there in 5 minutes. This is my first time at this Quest location so this will be my default place for blood tests. read more

This location is the worst I have ever experienced. I was checked in 10 minutes before my appointment but found myself still waiting 30 minutes after my appointment. There was a full waiting room and no one seemed to care. I eventually shouted to the back to see if anyone would respond and got a curt reply, to the extent that I wasn't sure if I should even trust this person to stick a needle in my arm. I went to that location for a blood test and it was a nightmare. 1. The location The person who worked there named Rita is the ONLY employee showing up that day in the office, she handles all the work, including checking in at the front door, signing documents as well as drawing blood, all by herself. The whole place lacks management and supervision.  2. The employee Rita was extremely unfriendly, inpatient, unprofessional, and rude.  She poked me 2 times on each arm for blood drawing. First, she used the wipes to scrub my skin like she was scrubbing a shoe. Second, Instead of directly poking into my arm, she pivoted and rotated the needle 360 degrees under my skin (imagine how painful that is) and she couldn't draw any blood at all.  After failing for the first time, she immediately started trying on my second arm without apologies. I asked what happened, and all she said was: "Opps, I missed".  I asked if she was sure she knew how to do it, she responded: "you are free to go to other locations, do you want to go to other locations now?" She did the 360 degrees thing in my second arm too, and eventually, she was able to draw blood by causing a huge pain. Her hand was shaking while she was holding the needle which caused the needle to move all the time during drawing. I felt a lot of pain the whole time, including after the test.  3. The customer service and the management  After I came home, my whole arm started to have severe bruises.  I started to file complaints to Quest, and got a phone call from the so-called "manager" from that location. I told her my experience and told her that there are tons of worst reviews on both yelp and google for Rita! But all she did was question me "Really? Rita is an experienced and professional employee!" after I explained to her what happened in detail. But all she said was "I'm sorry but that's completely normal".  After several phone calls, she said she will put Rita back for training. But after 5 days, when I called back and tried to follow up, she said Rita has already finished her retraining and already got back to work.  There is no compensation, no following up, nothing from Quest at all.  The whole experience is just a nightmare for me which makes me highly doubt the hiring standard of Quest Diagnostics. What kind of company calls such an unprofessional employee a "super senior, experienced and professional" employee? Also what kind of "training" only takes 3 work days? How do they evaluate the professional level and why do they call this level of bruising "completely normal" and "happens all the time"? read more

Place had some bad reviews so I was a little nervous coming in here but everything worked out. I was a walk-in and was 2nd on the list and it took about 30-45 minutes to get me in. I got in a little after they opened so any later and you might be out of luck if your walking in. Allen was great and was running the show over there by himself. read more

Went here this afternoon at 3:35pm, and they close at 4pm. There was nobody in the waiting area. Yet the phlebotomist (short curly hair) said he would not see me because he's closing. This review is mainly for the guy that took care of me today. I believe his name was Martin, I remember he had lip piercings. Regardless he was super professional and kind. He was straight forward. There weren't any nasty side comments. He took me in even though I was running late. He was fast and efficient. I had a lot of labs to be drawn, it took him no time to enter them into the system and draw my blood. He kept asking me if I felt okay and gave me water afterwards. Had a very disappointing experience here for multiple reasons. 1. While I was waiting for my appointment, a walkin came in and was told by the phlebotomist that they were only doing appointments, and that the appointments were full. I am puzzled as to how this location can be so understaffed as to be able to process only one test every ten minutes, which was the cadence specified by the phlebotomist for appointments. Also, it's just sad that walkins are rejected just like that. 2. Another person came in for an appointment, about half an hour earlier than their appointment, and asked if it was possible to get squeezed in earlier. The phlebotomist said they would try, but that this patient didn't need to sign in on the kiosk. That was incredibly confusing, so I did mention that it seemed like it couldn't hurt to sign in, and the other patient began to do so until the phlebotomist said to not do it. This continues to be incredibly puzzling and I don't know if the computer system is that inflexible or if the phlebotomist was just trying to protect their stats or something. Nevertheless, that patient did not really get much earlier of a time in the end, since I got out shortly before their appointment time. 3. So when actually getting my blood drawn, the phlebotomist told me that one of the vials was unavailable so I could only do some of the tests at that location. Pray tell, how does a blood testing labroratory not stock the necessary types of vials to be able to do all of the blood tests that they might need to do? Like come on, is this not one of the basic tasks of a lab, to make sure to have the necessary testing materials in stock? So in the end to get the remaining tests I had to go to a different lab which had the vial in stock, which took up yet more time and effort. read more

However, I do feel bad for the one older women in there whose fault it was not for the bookings and had to be admin, take the blood, and process it. How exciting do you want your lab to be anyway??? Plain and simple. . . I made my appointment online. That was easy. I arrived at 8am - they open at 8am and that was the time the door was opened. I checked in with Rona - she was pleasant and check in was about 5 minutes I sat in the chair - the room and chair were clean and tidy Rona drew a few vials of blood. She was a star in MY book, as there was almost no feeling when the needle went in. No jiggling of her hand during the draw. Perfect in my book. I suppose there are multiple staff here for different shifts because the nurse who assisted me was terrific. Forgot her name but it was a friendly old lady with an accent, I'm not nervous with blood tests but she still chatted with me to make me feel more calm and relaxed. Went in at about 4pm on a weekday and was done by 4:30pm, didn't make an appointment. Didn't hurt or bleed much and didn't bruise either, very skilled nurse, thank you! fyi the place is on 25th floor, took me awhile to find, so give yourself some travel time read more

I've had my blood drawn 100+ times in the 30 years I've had type 1 diabetes (always at hospital labs), and actually don't mind having my blood drawn. However, my first time at Quest was by far the worst blood draw I've had and will therefore also be my last time at Quest. There is one employee in the office doing everything from checking patients in to drawing the blood. I had to give a urine sample and there is no bathroom in the Quest office - I had to go out to the common area and all the way down the long hall to the shared stall bathroom, and then carry my urine sample back to the office - in a clear plastic bag! I asked if they had any paper bags and was told no. I also wasn't given any cleansing wipes, so the urine sample I gave really isn't valid/clean. The tech dug around in my arm with the needle to find the vein, which no other phlebotomist has ever had to do to me. When she took the needle out of my arm some blood spurted out so far that it landed on the counter next to me! Again, in the 100+ times I've had my blood drawn before nothing like that has ever happened. She taped the gauze on my arm and told me to keep it there for 20 minutes, but the three strips of tape had literally already fallen off by the time I got out to the elevator in the hallway. It came up that I had previously always had my blood drawn at UCSF, and the woman went on about how expensive UCSF is. I only came to Quest because my new insurance is awful and getting my labs done there is slightly less expensive than at UC, but trust me I will pay up for UCSF when I need to get my labs drawn again in 3-6 months. read more

As the majority of human beings I was rather nervous before undertaking a blood test. That was especially the case since I had not done that in over 15 years. And, my memories of my prior events were either really vague or not comforting. In any case, the phlebotomist was very good. I really did not feel much at the onset, and felt close to nothing thereafter. That is despite her having to take a ton of blood (7 or more vials) as I had ordered over 25 tests (the standard Comprehensive Metabolic Panel alone includes 14 individual tests). I understand others have had bad experience with Quest Diagnostics including long waits, etc. Let me make a few suggestions that may improve your experience. First, you got to make an appointment online at the Quest Diagnostic site. You can't expect to show up at a random time and be taken care off prompt. Next, consider making that appointment as early in the morning as you are comfortable with. Many blood tests require you to fast anyway. So, in the morning is a good thing. These morning appointments book early. So, consider making your appointment way in advance. You will have more and better choices. Also, when you go to any healthcare service providers, morning appointments are typically better because delays do not compound on each other. Show up a couple of minutes early (maybe even more if you have insurance paperwork to take care off). That is also because you may do the urine analysis bit before the blood test. Along the same line, drink plenty of water before your appointment. That facilitates the urine sample production. It will also make your urine clearer which removes diagnosed health concerns when your urine is much darker, even a bit foggier at times. I did all of the above. My appointment worked like a charm. I was in and out within 15 minutes. My appointment started right on time. And, there was one patient right before me and another one right after. That tells me one single phlebotomist (even without a receptionist) can smoothly serve four individuals per hour (one every 15 minutes). If you show up unannounced, and there are three people in front of you, you can expect to wait 45 minutes (the math is easy). And, that has nothing to do with Quest Diagnostics. You can avoid this situation with the few simple logical steps I suggested. read more

Not sure why this place is still open? My husband needed to get his allergy test done at this place. He took the day off and made an appointment with this lab since our primary told us to go here. I saw the reviews on yelp and tried convincing him to go to a different lab but since we had already made the appointment, we decided to give them a chance. Well, the girl who worked there told us that she doesn't know how to do an allergy test and that she's not familiar with it!!!!!! And that we have Togo to a different lab?!!!!!! I truly hope that more people read reviews and not waste their time with this business. read more

This place is very convenient for me, as it is near work and I can make an appointment. I haven't had to wait very long either time I've gone and the service is fine. The business model seems to be to put all of the responsibility on one person. One tip is that the lab is on the 25th floor. I'll use this location again. read more
