He had said something to me along the lines of, "Jim may not give you the lowest quote of all of the electricians you contact, but he's honest and takes the time to be truly meticulous, and that's exactly what you want." Jim's quote actually wasn't as high as that suggestion implied, and now that the work is done I'm actually feeling like I got a bargain. The issue that prompted me to call was a progressively bad flickering and dimming lights issue that the utility had investigated twice and on both occasions told me could only be originating in the house's wiring. Jim responded immediately to my call, and came out to investigate quickly. After he looked over the breaker boxes and meter, tightened things up, and tested voltages, he wasn't convinced of the utility's assertions and pointed out some visible issues with the street line that I as a homeowner would never have known could be problematic. Still, our service line and breaker boxes were quite old and couldn't be fully ruled out as potential causes, plus we had a handful of other projects in the house that we wished to do, so we engaged Jim to replace the service and do those other tasks. Throughout the project, Jim and his colleague Leo were entirely professional. They were extraordinarily helpful and clear in both written and in-person discussions, they did a meticulous installation and painstakingly chased down mystery circuits to label the box perfectly (something we never had with the prior boxes), and ultimately they worked with us and the utility to prove that the flickering issue was, in fact, originating at the transformer on the street. I'd hire Jim again in an instant.
