My lobster roll with fries and quite tasty Bloody Mary.
    Rick W.

Ate here while on a trip to DE. Had soup and a lobster roll which was fantastic, came with melted butter to put on it. The waitresses that day left a lot to be desired (they were much too busy visiting amongst themselves to be bothered by the likes of us pesky customers!) but then our waiter, Ryan showed up. He was very helpful and attentive and extremely easy on the eyes too! I felt our meal was a little Overpriced, but being from Texas and not ordering crab or lobster very often, I think I just didn't realize how pricey those things are. It's a very cozy, comfortable little place and I would for sure revisit once we move to Delaware.

We order food to go which was prepared in a timely fashion. The sushi was surprisingly good as was the crab cake. The lobster roll was probably the worst I've ever eaten in my life, zero taste, the claw meat was chalky in a way that suggested it was frozen before, they also skimped on the bun which also tasted way too sugary Crab dip, same story. Bottom tier. They need to be taken off the menu, current kitchen staff disposed of, or the recipe for those two menu items reworked Get the crab cake sandwich, skip all the other stuff

The common theme in many of the reviews for Striper Bites is "...it's a favorite of the locals..." Lewes, DE is one of my favorite places for quick weekend trips, and after visiting Striper Bites quite often, not only is this place a favorite of the locals, but for us "tourists" also. Located in the quaint downtown, Striper Bites pays homage to Lewes' history as a former Dutch whaling and port city with nautical themed decor. Large wooden barrels, ship steering wheels, mounted fish and nets adorn the walls and accent the dark wooden furniture and color palette. There is a diverse menu, but when I'm in town with friends and family...I keep it simple. I'll usually start with one of the many beers on draft; check the chalkboard for what's on tap from the ever changing selection. The crab dip is an AMAZING appetizer. Chunks of crab meat are mixed in with cheese, given a quick bake, and served with buttered toast points. Great for sharing. You can also ask for additional pieces of bread (which I usually do) to sop up any residual dip. The bistro burger is nothing fancy...but everything a good pub style burger should be. A well seasoned angus beef patty is grilled is topped with aged white cheddar, bacon jam, house sauce, arugula, and nestled in a briche bun. The side of fries are also nice and crispy. Honestly, I've had the fish and chips, the fried shrimp, and other seafood dishes, and no suprise, it's all good. Service is always friendly, but not always as "prompt" when it gets busy - which in the summer during the high tourist season - but that's to be understood. Every town needs a neighborhood gathering spot like Striper Bites.

The lime in the drink wasn't the nicest looking lime...it shouldn't make it into the drink. Vodka tonic

I prefer bar sitting so I was very happy about it As soon as we sat down our server, Kyle, almost immediately came over and attended to us. He was great offered appropriate suggestions and gave helpful hints. One thing we learned was that it's better to reserve/order your crab beforehand. Especially during summer peak season. Since we didn't know (and therefore didn't order in advance, we had to settle the select size (12 ) of crab. Select is the smallest size, then medium, large and extra large. Next time we go there we'll order ahead. The 12 crab was MORE than enough for two people. We had deviled eggs and a half poumd of shrimp for appetizers. We had 4 beers, 2 cocktails and a dozen select size (small) crab. The bill was under 200 before tip. All in all I would recommend Surfing Crab. It's super crowded during the tourist season so be ready for a wait depending on the time you get there. Once you're in, you'll totally enjoy yourself. Very laid back and chill. You might even see the owners working with everyone else..

But I was able to find an entree here that was delicious, filling and fairly (depending on your choice of sides) healthful. First, the crabs. The place is crowded. We waited about 30 minutes outside (alternative is the inside bar) and got a table. We ordered our meals and within three minutes, my partner had a tray of 6 nice-size blue crabs in front of them. The sides (the AYCE comes with fries, hush puppies and cole slaw) came a few minutes later. My entree - grilled chicken breast with 2 sides - came a few minutes later. Two large moist breasts, fries, veggies (veggies add $2) and I ordered a third side - cole slaw for extra $2.95. If you are a non AYCE crab person like me, you understand the need to pace yourself during your meal - hence, the extra side. : ) I really enjoyed my meal and my partner the crabs. The service was exceptional - both water glasses and refilling those crab orders. My partner didn't have to ask for crab refills. Before they were done with one order, the server was ready with more to add to the platter. The server was very pleasant and seemed to know most of the customers in the place. There's an enthusiasm and positive vibe here that is really great. An excellent meal and overall good experience. And that's speaking as a non-crab person!

We enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere so much that we made it a point to come back the following year. That second visit was just okay. The food and service weren't quite as good, but we chalked it up to an off day and decided to give it another chance this year. Unfortunately, the third visit was the worst of the three. We were initially seated near the stage where the music was so loud that we could barely hear each other talk. To their credit, the host was accommodating and moved us to another table when we asked. However, our server's response was disappointing. She made a passive-aggressive comment along the lines of, "That's fine if you move, I just won't make as much money." Not exactly something guests expect to hear when simply asking for a quieter table. The food was bland and arrived at different times. Some dishes were cold by the time they reached the table. Several drinks were forgotten, and we had to remind our server multiple times before receiving them. We also spoke with management about our experience, but they seemed largely uninterested and didn't appear concerned about addressing the issues. The one bright spot is the outdoor area. It's a great space with lawn games, a playground, and plenty of room to relax. If you're looking for a place to have a drink outside and let the kids play, it serves that purpose well. For us, though, the combination of poor service, inconsistent food quality, and lack of concern from management means we won't be returning.

We were pleasantly greeted & seated. The restaurant is open and large with lots of booths along large bright windows. Our waiter came over promptly and gave us the specials and took our drink order. It was great that we were able to customize our order by adding more shrimp and changing the potato option to whipped instead of fries. The Caesar salad was too small to be shared but was excellent! The kitchen did not catch the potato switch and send fries which was quickly fixed by our waiter so we had both the fries & whipped! Both were excellent as well! The fried shrimp were a little small from what we expected but tasted great. Overall this was a great first visit and we will definitely give this place a second shot.
