Tater Tots
Hunter C.

After seeing such high reviews, I decided to give Big Oyster Brewery a shot. With that known, I have to say that Big Oyster Brewery is a bit overrated. To start, I ordered the tavern wings for an appetizer and they were solid. To explain, the wings were crispy, but a bit dry. Furthermore, the sauce was spicy with a hint of sweetness. The wings would have been great if they weren't overcooked. After that, I ordered the fried oysters with tater tots and mac and cheese for my entree. With that being said, the fried oysters were decent. To expand, the oysters tasted fresh and they were tender. However, the coating was bland and uninspiring. In the same manner, the tater tots were nothing special. To breakdown, the tots were hot and crispy, but they were just frozen tots. Likewise, the mac and cheese was just boxed mac and cheese. It honestly tasted like Panera's mac and cheese. It's a shame that they didn't put more effort into the sides. In the long haul, Big Oyster Brewery is just a run of the mill seafood restaurant.

Have to say one of the worst meals of 2025. To start off they give you way too many menus , some items are repeated and it just causes way too much confusion. Our waitress was either new or just didn't get much training. Drinks came, and some were ok others they didn't enjoy. Appetizers were ordered as well as our mains....Only half of the appetizers came out, no waitress insight. Finally she comes around and I guess she forgot to put mine in ( also earlier she couldn't read her own handwriting and had to ask for our order again, for some) . Apps were pretty bad, a chicken noodle soup that had no broth and just a clumpy mess...Fried calamari that was so over cooked, must have gotten fried a couple of times, hard and fish, steamed clams that were gritty, spicy chili sliders were also disappointing. The best is that these items were never eaten, just left on the table and the waitress never picked up on it to ask is anything wrong. Entrees also disappointed, crab cakes weee so so, grilled cheese with beef ate half, chicken wrap half it was so unmemorable. There were other entrees but nothing stands out. I also tried ordering another beer as others order other drinks and they just took forever to get them...I believe mine was forgotten again. The best part is we went the night it has 25% off the check...Our waitress forgot to apply the 25% off...No need to go back here.

Beer and food were ok, but the table service was terrible. Very inattentive and slow. My drink never came so I had to go to the bar and order. BOB was highly hyped, and can see why. Very fun place for everyone from beer drinkers to families. However, fun is of very little value with such sub par service. Definitely a 'been there, done that' kinda place. Would not recommend based on service alone. It doesn't need to be that bad.

The food was fresh and delicious. We all Liked our meals. The service was great. The ambiance is friendly and fun. Live music in the outside courtyard. Very good time had by all. Best time to visit this place is during the summer.

I'm so happy that I found this spot while visiting Delaware. Big Oyster Brewery is a huge dining/ brewing facility with more than enough space to fit a ton of people. I didn't have reservations and was seated immediately. It was cold at the time of my visit so, the outdoor area was enclosed by a tent with heaters available. We weren't super hungry at the time so, I only had a platter of oysters (a must) and a beer flight. If memory serves, you can choose your own flight. The pricing of the oysters was great! Our server was also very friendly and very attentive. She gave us a couple of tips about things to do in the area and I greatly appreciated it!

First let me say, I didn't get pictures of all the different things we ate. We went to Big Oyster on Wednesday which was oyster night and we got there early for happy hour. There were four of us so we tried a variety of things. I got the calamari and a wedge salad. Both were delicious. The calamari was served with a Thai chili sauce. The wedge was everything I love about a wedge salad. Plenty of blue cheese, bacon, egg, tomatoes and a very good blue cheese dressing. My husband got the fried oyster appetizer and cream of crab soup. Nice size oysters and he loved the soup. My sister's friend got the soup as well and key lime pie. He was a little disappointed in the pie but again loved the soup. My sister got the cheesesteak egg rolls. She wasn't crazy about the egg rolls and said she wouldn't get them again. She said they had a nice flavor but not enough meat in them and she said they were greasy. We both also got a dozen oysters and they were a nice size and very flavorful.

We visited during happy hour and enjoyed a flight along with oysters and steamed clams. Service was great and there was live music as well.

Loved Big House Brewery! From the moment we stepped in until we finished our meal there was a real laid back atmosphere. The happy hour specials were great! Tonight was crab night and we ordered a crab flatbread with mushrooms and onions. The blend of favors was amazing! We also ordered the oyster sliders and they were very good. Our server was extremely accommodating and friendly. We will definitely return here when visiting the area.

Ahi Tuna slaw&wasabi sauce on side w/ tots

The Big Oyster Ahi Tuna sandwich is very tasty. The bun is toasted, the fish is a good portion that's cooked to order, and has wasabi sauce that adds great flavor. I don't eat the pickled cucumber slaw but my hubby likes it. The pretzel is huge and always an excellent appetizer.

Old Bay butter wings

Enjoyed happy hour at the bar. Old Bay butterwiings were large and flavorful. Bartender provided great service and was friendly and answered all questions. The atmosphere is great too. It's a lot bigger than it appears! Definitely heading back again!

Really nice beachy atmosphere!! They have a playground outside and live music playing. Service can be a little slow sometimes. Big plus is that it is dog friendly!!!! All of the food we had so far was really good. My partner and I enjoyed the fried soft shell crab blt and also the fried oyster sandwich is good. They have a really good selection of sour beers that they change from time to time.

Service was quick and personable which is really not that common anymore. Pickle chips were super tasty with a good sauce. We aren't beer drinkers but the warm cocktail was also delicious and another blanket of comfort. We both had sandwiches and both barely finished half, the portions are worth 2 regular or 3 small meals! The chicken could have used more seasoning but it was plenty. The salmon burger was also huge and perfectly cooked. What everyone knows to be true is- you want to be fed well and have a great time trying new drinks, definitely check out Dogfish.

I had the Rhinestone Cowboy burger, which was seasoned well and medium rare, but it was dry, especially around the edges. The bbq sauce was delicious. The fries were ok but not crispy. The other one had Korean tacos, which were also just okay. We tried the Coconut Etiquette beer, which as very refreshing and not as fruity as expected, which is a good thing; very subtle coconut notes. Wouldn't go back.

First disappointment(s) 1 hour into HH and they did not have a few of the HH menu items - boneless wings and cheese steak egg rolls. I hope the wings were really out because the daily special was offering wings for $1 each and these were pushed. The diet soda that was served was pretty flat and had a strange flavor and was definitely an off brand. The chowder was creamy but had a very sweet flavor to it not much of other flavors. Could be canned or frozen? Double Burger was cooked well and served with a bag of Cape Cod chips. Had to ask for pickles as did several other diners. It was bland as well, was not seasoned. We also had tater tots that were served on a pool of ? ?? The French fries that my dining companion opted for with her burger were grease soaked and were an undisclosed up charge of $2! Had to try them but definitely will not be back. Had Irish Eyes down the road not been so packed that is where to go- always!

It was a beautiful day out and we wanted something on the water as well with outdoor dining. This was our first time here and the atmosphere and outdoor dining was wonderful. The food was such a disappointment. The Happy Hour menu for food included: Loaded Tater Tots ($7), Traditional or Boneless Wings ($11), Cheesesteak Eggrolls ($9), Smash Burger ($10), New England Clam Chowder ($8) and Oyster of the Day (1/2 dz $10; dz $18). Happy hour beverages included $2 off draft beer, Rail Mixed Drinks ($6), Crushes ($9), House Wines ($6), and Canned Domestic ($4) - Miller Lite, Coors Lite, Natty BOH, and Michelob Ultra. They also had Weekly Specials (Sunday) which included Traditional Wings ($1 each) and $10 Grain Burger along with some others, you can see in the attached photo. We arrived at 5 pm and the Happy Hour Menu is from 4-6pm so we were only an hour into the Happy Hour. They were out of the "Traditional or Boneless wings ($11) but said we could order the Sunday weekly specials of traditional wings at $1 each. They were out of the Cheesesteak Eggrolls as well. I elected to have the Loaded Tater Tots from the Happy Hour menu and the Smash Burger which came with chips and the server asked if I would like to substitute the chips with fries which I agreed. The Loaded Tater Tots were cheese sauce, bacon, scallions and sour cream. They were greasy and the cheese sauce, I don't know. I couldn't even tell you what type of cheese it was. Maybe cheddar, but I'm really not sure. There were just a few pieces of bacon on it and loaded with sour cream. Not very good. The smash burger was 2 4oz beef patties with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion on a potato roll. No pickles. Who serves a burger with no pickles on it or on the side? We did request pickles and they were given. There was no offer of any ketchup or it being on the table. I asked for BBQ sauce and received that when I had a bite left of the burger. However, the BBQ sauce was very tasty. The "cheddar cheese" was a mix of cheddar and mozzarella or something and it was shredded cheese not a slice or anything. Guess they were running out of cheese and had to improvise. There was a huge chunk end piece of lettuce that should not have been on the burger, and the tomatoes were chopped not sliced. Who puts chopped tomatoes on a burger? After having this AMAZING burger in Virginia Beach a week ago at The Atlantic on Pacific for $6 on their Happy Hour menu, this was "ok". I accepted the substitute of fries with the Smash Burger over the chips. I was truly sorry I did that. They were partly raw, greasy, and I don't know how else to explain them. Just horrible. Some looked like they were overcooked but yet they were not crispy or anything. Just limp fries. Majority undercooked. To my surprise, I received the check and my burger was $12 where my sisters was $10. The only reason for the upcharge would be the substitution of the fries for the chips. Say what? There was no mention of the upcharge when offered, which is just horrible when servers don't mention any additional charge for things and the way he offered it was like it could be substituted free of charge. Needless to say, that $2 came out of his tip since he didn't have the knowledge to notify a guest of this. Not to mention the disgrace to be charging $2 additional for those undercooked and overcooked greasy piles of disgusting things they call French Fries. I also ordered a Diet Coke which I like to have with lime and what do you know, they were out of limes. This also tasted funny. It was either really cheap Cola however, it tasted more like pretty flat soda. Sitting on the dock of the Bay (hee hee get it?) was the best part of this meal. The service was ok. Things were delayed when requested, such as the pickles and BBQ sauce (which was requested at time of order). The food was horrible. The fact that they were out of so many things just an hour into happy hour and the cheapness of the cheese sauce on the tater tots that you couldn't even notice the flavor and the greasiness of it and then those fries. No, I can't get over those fries. No reputable place would ever serve fries like that. It was just horrible. I wanted to like this place, and it was a pure let down. Definitely a pass for me. Irish Eyes is right down the road; on a bad day they are better. Awesome Happy Hour menu, just make sure you get their early enough so you can get a spot at the bar (inside, porch or outside) or a high top in the bar areas.
