I've enjoyed Strings ramen in the Chicago suburbs, and this is probably my 3rd time in Madison. Even though it's summertime (about 77'F), I wasn't feeling well and decided a hot bowl of ramen was just what I needed. I went on a weekday lunch, so there was no wait--only one other customer when I arrived. I ordered the pork belly tonkotsu ramen because I prefer a creamy, richer broth. I almost went for the spicy crab, but since it included ground pork, I switched. My food came out in about ten minutes, which wasn't too bad. The broth was flavorful and rich, though I wish it had been served a little hotter. Portion size was generous, and I especially appreciated the bamboo shoots and perfectly soft-boiled egg. Overall, I was in and out in about 30 minutes. The quality was good, though prices are on the higher side at about $15 per bowl. They do offer a loyalty program (buy 10, get the 11th free), which is a nice perk. Street parking is terrible and I ended up using the parking garage across the restaurant.

I've been here 3 times and Strings has been consistently fast and delicious! Can't go wrong with miso or tonkotsu. Their pork belly helps differentiate it from the rest.

Had the pleasure to try their Hell Ramen and it was a Hell yah! I just walked in and luckily there were still a few tables open. Definitely a must try, I just had a level 2 but some people are going for level 4! I enjoyed it with some gyozas as well. Highly recommend.

The broth was SO delicious and flavorful. The gyoza was also very tasty. Will definitely be returning for more. It is a bit pricey ($15 for the ramen, $8 for 6pcs gyoza).

I had lunch from here. I went for Hell ramen level 4 spiciness. Level 4 was too spicy for me. I should have gone for level 3. Level 4 gave tingling sensations in stomach. It was tough to enjoin the ramen. Ajitsuke tamago was a flavor ful soft cooked egg, and went very nice with Ramen.

It was fast and great service! Prices are okay, could be cheaper. Upset there are no chicken or beef ramen options! If you don't eat pork, you're only option is a turkey or crab ramen. Otherwise the sides are yummy!!

The food was delicious I got the miso ramen and my boyfriend got the hell ramen level 4 but it was extremely spicy so if you want to suffer later order that one . This is our 2nd time here the takoyaki is 10/10 and so are the gyozas very soft . Food came out fast

OMG! wow was I blown away with this place! From the outside it really doesn't look like much, and it's a smaller restaurant when you walk inside; but hot dang the food is soooo delicious!! I ordered the Hell Fire Level 2 ramen, pork dumplings and green tea mochi ice cream all togo. You get 6 large gyoza dumplings and the flavor of the hell fire broth was sooooo good! Spicy but still in a flavorful way! The staff was soooo helpful in helping me pick my items, it being my first time here and were super friendly and patient with me. And everything they suggested was delicious! The togo containers were strong, sturdy and MICROWAVEABLE for leftovers. They even put my mochi in a bag of ice so it didn't melt when I walked to my hotel! 12/10 would recommend this place and return again my next madison visit!!

TL;DR: 3.5. Food is good, service could be better, and prices are a tad higher than other local competitors. I have other preferred spots. Food: 4 Noodles could be better, but the takoyaki was solid and the broth was tasty. The pork was very tender! Service: 3 Our server was cordial enough, but she didn't come check on us. Nothing horrible, but nothing particularly shining in this area. Ambiance: 4 Nice decorations with a variety of seating.

Had a taste for Ramen, so we sought out Strings Ramen near State Street on Francis. First impressions: very clean and pleasantly greeted at the door. The menu was large but organized. Our server gave us a quick tutorial on the menu offerings, for which we were appreciative. We ordered an appetizer of Shrimp Gyoza. The Gyoza arrived surprisingly fast. The order included six freshly boiled plump and fresh dumplings with ponzu sauce. Perfect for 2 or 3 diners to share. Our two entrees arrived quickly as well. My husband tried the Miso Ramen Kura Buta Loin. The smooth and tasty miso broth was full of corn, scallions, bean sprouts, ramen, and pork loin slices. He thoroughly enjoyed his dish. I tried the Vegetable Yaki Soba, which was stir-fried noodles and vegetables with two perfectly fried eggs on top with a side of dashi broth. This dish was perfection to me! It truly filled my ramen craving with its array of mushrooms, broccoli, bean sprouts, etc. The slightly runny eggs acted as the frosting on the cake. This dish was heavenly.

Authentic & delicious ramen offerings at absolutely reasonable, dare I say, inexpensive prices. I've eaten here twice now and truly wish they were in NYC. We started off with the steamed pork dumplings. They were seasoned with a much higher spicy heat dumpling sauce than I've experienced before....and it was excellent! The skin was thin & the filling was moist and delicious. I HIGHLY recommend them. Following the dumplings I thought I gave the Shogou Hell Ramen a try. It's described as a Level 3 (of 5...the hottest will earn you a $50 gift card, t-shirt & ramen bowl!) chili heat dish. It's that...at least!! The chilis in this dish are as follows; Chinese Tian Jing red chili, Szechuan chili bean sauce, Thai chili, Piquin chili and Ghost peppers. The ramen texture & cook is perfect. The heat is REAL! I enjoyed a couple cold Asahis to slake my thirst & ease the heat. Really fun challenge & irresistible. We finished our meal with the best green tea & strawberry mochis I've EVER experienced. Thin skin again with tasty ice creams lurking within. I have no hesitation in recommending Strings Ramen to anyone who like good food. The only reason Strings doesn't get my 5th is twofold. The first is that the interior isn't exactly eye catching & the 2nd visit we were asked if we wanted our bill before we were finished eating TWICE by 2 different staff members who weren't our server...which was annoying.

Stopped in for ramen, pork was TENDER and sk flavorful! The staff are so kind, very considerate of our experience. Lukman was attentive, very friendly.

Clean. Quick. Tasty. Service was great. Hell 1 ramen had the perfect amount of spice. Fantastic flavor. No frills ramen shop. Just good ramen quickly.

The gentleman who served me was very patient and friendly as I looked over the menu and asked questions about different dishes. I started with the lamb skewer as an appetizer and was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful it was. For my main dish, I chose the Gyuunika Ramen with shrimp. It was a bit on the spicier side, so if you do not enjoy heat, you might want to try something milder. If you want to dial down the spice level, I recommend adding their house teriyaki sauce--it adds a nice sweetness that balances the broth perfectly. The dish was rich, hearty, and delicious, and I didn't mind the spice at all. Safe to say, I will definitely be dining here again before I head back to my home state.

While the beef itself was flavorful and enjoyable, the egg was too overcooked and kind of ruined the dish. The ramen content was fine, but the broth lacked flavor and richness. And they adjust the noodle thickness based upon the broth type, so that's good. But if you like shoyu ramen, this really isn't their strong point; it will be more like a lighter tonkotsu broth with thicker noodles. They also offer dan dan men and chuka soba in the summertime, but it's not really the Japanese style. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and the staff is very nice and attentive. Service is quick. I stopped by on the way to Breese Field and it was a delicious quick dinner. The bamboo shoots are made with a canned variety, instead of dehydrated, and the marinated egg is really just soft-boiled. So if you're a ramen snob, set your expectations accordingly. The neighborhood is nice and Sake Sushi is located in a small plaza, however I almost missed it since it is located on the side of the plaza and was not visible from the street. Inside I found an interesting mix of decor, it seems like a traditional Asian restaurant with white linen tableclothes and also some very modern touches including neon strip lighting along the ceiling and a variety of light fixtures. Overall a bit of a mishmash that would be better if they picked one style and stayed with it. I got there in the late afternoon so the place was empty at first, I was seated and given the menu which allows you to fill out what you want. The menu is fairly similar to other AYCE sushi places I have been at. Of note is that at dinner you can order up to 15 pieces of sashimi without an extra charge. I ordered a nice selection of sashimi, some sushi, a couple of different maki rolls, the salmon skin salad and the seafood soup. Interestingly the sashimi and sushi came out first, then the maki rolls, then the soup and salad. The sashimi was very good, fresh with nice sized pieces; the nigiri sushi had a nice portion of seafood to rice. I was a bit disappointed with the seafood soup, just a bit under seasoned and too much bean sprouts. The salmon skin salad was excellent with nicely roasted smoked salmon skin mixed with a bit of eel sauce, delicious, crunchy and one of my favorites that you don't see everywhere. I also enjoyed the scallops sashimi, large fresh raw scallops with a nice delicate flavor and texture. The maki rolls were good as well, nicely sized with plenty of filling. I did really enjoy the Super Lobster Roll with shrimp tempura, cucumbers, avocado then topped with lobster salad; the lobster salad was a nice treat, although I think it was made with lagostino lobsters it was still tasty. I also liked their version of spider roll, the soft shell crab was crispy and flavorful. I enjoyed my meal at Sake Sushi, dinner was $30 for all you can eat. The sushi and sashimi were very good, of course not quite the same quality as the best sushi bars but pretty close. Service was good and there are plenty of choices, including noodle dishes, fried rice, hibachi and tempura. The decor is a bit of a miss, but nothing that will keep you from enjoying your meal. Well worth a try if you are hungry and feel like some sushi and Japanese food.
