My go-to ramen spot in the suburbs! Discovered this hidden gem on Yelp a couple months ago and have already returned five times!!! Our go-to order is Level 2 Vegetarian Hell Ramen with a side of age tofu (their tofu skin is unique and delicious dipped in the broth or on its own). I tried level 3 once & the spice was a bit too much for me. If you are unsure which level to go with, ordering a level down to be safe and get a side of hell sauce to customize the spice level to your liking. We also love the vegetarian yakisoba which is topped with 2 fried eggs. This spot is very vegetarian/vegan friendly which is always a plus! Order a side of pickled radishes & cucumbers, you won't regret it! So refreshing and my favorite side dish here. The vegetable and chicken gyoza are both full of flavor and delicious as well. Food always comes out piping hot, fresh, & promptly. They have an extensive selection of non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages too. Some of my favorites so far have been the yuzu sake, lychee martini, & the non-alcoholic housemade stringria. The interior is well maintained & decorated well which I always appreciate too. If you're in the area, I definitely remaking a stop here for some delicious noods!
We already have a go-to ramen spot in the burbs but decided to change it up and go to strings ramen in Aurora. The decor inside makes it feel like you're sitting in a ramen shop in Japan! The service is great - they provided so many recommendations and helped explain the menu since it was our first time. We got 2 different ramens - the black garlic tonkatsu ramen and the hell ramen. The tonkatsu ramen is a creamy pork bone with black garlic oil. It was super rich and creamy but we had to add some chili paste to it since the base was not too spicy. Next up was the vegetarian hell ramen - I got level 2 which was the perfect amount of spice for me! It came with corn, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, egg, and a few other add ons. The chicken gyoza was truly one of the best dumplings ever! The sauce it came with was also delicious! The noodles here are a little thinner than the noodles I was expecting. Also, I prefer chicken in my ramen but they only offer pork as an alternative or you can get a vegetarian option instead. I do hope that they can start offering chicken as an alternative in the future! Overall, it's a decent ramen spot! They have multiple locations also in case you live elsewhere!
- Ok food, good ambiance, good service - Reservation not made, I do not think you can make one as I can't find it on the website - Maybe come back, not in a rush though Fun Japanese restaurant with lots of cool decor and seating. We had gotten dinner and the place was very full and busy the whole time we were there. I had gotten the Kuro Buta Curry Ramen w/ Level 1 Spice and it was definitely a unique ramen that I had never tasted before. Curry ramen was something new to me and I don't think it is something I will be sticking to. The flavors were good and powerful, but I quickly grew tired of my meal. The soup seemed to have all sorts of different flavors; a fragrant and heavy broth, fatty pork, and powerful raw onions. I felt as though so many things were going on and my tummy was experiencing all of then at once. Even though the flavors were everywhere, I did eat everything and was full from the meal. I did appreciate how the spice levels could be selected and further customized as it was served on the side and could be added in to whatever spice amount you please. My girlfriend had gotten the Kuro Buta Tonkatsu Ramen, and it was just ok. The real test of ramen is in the broth, and it was a little disappointing. The broth did not have that rich umami flavor, and was more of a milky and creamy flavor, leading to an overall heavy and fatty experience. There was an ok amount of variation in the toppings, with most being mushrooms, but her egg was pretty cooked and not very runny which was unfortunate. Our overall dining experience was saved by the ambiance as the food was not something we felt was special. They do have other food options, so maybe if we come back, we would enjoy the donburi bowls or another ramen option than what we had tried.
great atmosphere and friendly servers who are honest and helpful. the food is alright -- not amazing and had some pitfalls, but overall an enjoyable experience and worth a try. the kaisen don was a special advertised in the front of the store. it was composed of various seasoned fish, an egg, and garnishes atop a bed of rice. i thought it was overall too salty, and i wish that there were unseasoned fish portions to keep the dish fresh -- it was a bit overwhelming and had only the rice to balance the flavors. the chicken karaage was nicely crunchy; however, it was more breading than it was chicken. the curry ramen was okay. i was expecting the classic japanese curry flavor, but it tasted like curry powder and lacked the thickness and flavor of traditional japanese curry. overall, i would probably return to try other dishes, but it wouldn't be my first choice to return here for the food itself.
Rating: 3.5 stars My friend and I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon to grab a chicken karaage and fried gyoza to go. We ordered at the front with the cashier who was friendly and efficient. We left for a bit and came back to grab our food. The gyoza was fried well and the flavor was great. I was expecting a ponzu sauce but they put in a spicy mayo sauce instead which made it feel a bit too heavy. The karaage was a bit bland and was not fried well so it was a bit dry as well. The spicy mayo sauce went better with the karaage. All in all, though everything in the restaurant was efficient the food we ordered was pretty average. Maybe the ramen is better, we may try that next time.
Top photo is the pork loin tone tonkatsu and the bottom photo is shoyu pork loin. Noodles were firm. Spice was non existent even with level 2. If you like spice, go 3 at minimum. The portions were small compared to Chinatown restaurants. The pork was fine but not a ton of flavor. Servers were not attentive, ended up having to wave down to pay and leave even with only 3 other tables in the whole restaurant. We wanted to love this place to save us driving into the city but it wasn't worth a second trip.
I had no idea this location was so massive! Strings Aurora can seat up to 75ish people. I had expected to wait a bit since you aren't able to make a res or joint a waitlist, however I was very happy to be seated quickly. The ambiance is minimalist with wood seating and pops of color for the decor throughout. It's cozy and feels the same as the Lakeview location, just 1000x larger haha. I took a star off bc the service was very confusing for me. We did not interact with anyone other than the host bringing us to our table and another person bringing our food out. You are able to order via your phone or through a server. A server never came around so we opted to order through our phone instead. Our ramen came out within 15 mins. I tried the Tonkotsu Ramen with pork loin and it was phenomenal. Tasty, creamy and oh so good! My fiance tried the Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen and he really enjoyed it. Between the 2 I liked the broth of the tonkotsu better however both were divine!
Every time I go here I get delicious, fresh food. If you order something with crab, you'll get real crab meat! My favorite has become their Kaisen Don (for someone who is a bit more adventurous with raw seafood), however the pork Yakisoba was my original favorite. You get large portions here but the food is so good I end up finishing everything without any leftovers The restaurant itself is beautiful as well and has a fantastic atmosphere. The servers are very friendly and attentive as well, but keep in mind this place can get very busy sometimes! One thing I would recommend is for them to add bag hangers somewhere for people sitting at the stools. I always have to awkwardly wear my bag as I eat if I'm seated there . Pro tip, if you don't like anything spicy be sure to ask for none of the spicy seasoning. Even the gyoza has it by default which I am fine with, but if you're with someone who can't tolerate the heat (like my mom haha) just something to be aware of!
Strings is hands down my favorite ramen restaurant in Aurora. We have never made a reservation and have always been able to be seated quickly. You have the option of ordering from a QR code or using a physical menu. The servers are very attentive and kind. The restaurant has a modern feel and is very clean. My go to order is the tonkotsu ramen with pork belly. It comes with multiple slices of tender, juicy pork belly, a jammy marinated egg, and lots of noodles. The broth is rich, salty, and flavorful. You also have the option to add on hell sauce, which I always get on the side. It adds the perfect kick to every bite. Typically, I also get the chicken karaage with spicy mayo. The order is big enough to share and the pieces of chicken are small, juicy, and crispy. I also recommend strings when going out to eat with friends, and our most recent trip was a hit as always.
When I think of Ramen I think of noodles sitting in a broth. Strings Ramen however puts a spin on Ramen that opens a whole new world of ramen. The options are plentiful and surprising. I was pleased that the server was generous with my portion allowing me to try something new. Everything I had was fresh and an exciting take on what I was expecting. The decor was as expected almost minimal. The chairs along side the high top tables are extraordinarily heavy. The chairs at other tables though were not extraordinarily heavy. Just something that was noticed. I would definitely go back and would like to try other offerings as the menu offered a wide variety. With an option to carry out it might be nice to have Strings Ramen Shop as an option.

I tried out Strings, near the Park to Shop grocery, to mix up my ramen game a bit. Well, kind of: of all the options on their wide-ranging ramen menu, I clung to my favorite style, black garlic tonkotsu ramen. Overall, it was quite tasty, though I still prefer 45 Degree Tea. The pork belly was quite thick, with a flavorful broth. I came for a late lunch; gladly it wasn't too busy so I could get a booth, because otherwise individuals would be at small tables down the center walkway, sitting on stools that are basically boxes (not great for someone juggling a cane like me). Really enjoyed our meal here! It is not a paper menu... you pull it up on your phone via QR code. AND you even order on your phone, minimizing interaction with your server. I would say this restaurant is a cross between a nice sit-down ambience and fast service where they deliver your food and drinks but you pay via phone as well. Definitely give it a try!! Came here with some girl friends and we were all so happy for strings to finally come into the burbs. Let me tell you the interior design is so cute. Very spacious which I loved. The waitress and waiter were all so sweet and kind. Definitely coming back when I'm craving ramen and don't want to drive into the city. Go try it out! You won't be disappointed. read more
If I'm going to splurge on ramen, it better be given love and attention. I've been to the Strings in Chicago Chinatown for the longest time so I know what they're about. Now that I'm in the burbs, I'm happy that I can still get my fix. Freshly made noodles every day, broth that is cooked for hours, and an even bigger location for dine-in service hits all the marks. I would argue that the broth has gotten better. It was a bit overdone and salty back in the day, but Strings seems to have dialed in their recipes. I tried the shiyo and tsukemen ramen bowls along with their meat-lover rice bowl. No, I didn't eat every one of those by myself. Each one of these bowls were spot on in flavor, quantity, and presentation. This is a great addition to the Pacifica Square plaza by Fox Valley Mall. read more

Really happy to have this ramen option in the area instead of having to drive to the Northwest suburbs. Those ramen shops will still be a destination meal for us, but sometimes you just want ramen now. The tonkotsu ramen noodles were chewy and the broth was familiar and comforting. It was enough for my husband and I to share. The pork loin (kuro buta) was tender and a nice amount. The kids loved the karaage chicken and edamame but not the kids' ramen (good portions, just not to their tastes). Note: the edamame appetizer comes with a dusting of chili but the kid's option was plain, which we prefer. The people who answered the phone for our takeout order were friendly, clear, and helpful. Food ready right on time. Nice looking Japanese decor. We'll surely go back for a convenient and tasty solution to our ramen cravings, especially since we frequent the Park to Shop next door. read more

Servings of Kuro Bota (pork) were generous in the ramen dishes and you choose level of spice/heat. Menu is simple but offers a good variety. Service can be friendlier but the food is pretty good. Ambiance is nice and noise level is conversational. read more
This is my new favorite ramen place in the area! If you check in with Yelp, you will get a free edamame which is really awesome because the edamame is delicious- they use some sort of spicy seasoning which is really tasty. The ramen is so yummy and flavorful and you can add chili oil or their special hell seasoning to it to give it a bit of spice. The ambiance is really nice, very warm but modern vibes. The only reason this is not 5 stars is because you order and pay on your phone at the table, so the only time interacting with service is when they bring the food to the table. read more

Monster Hell Ramen Challenge This is a pretty cool place that has a mix of traditional and modern/new age. When you walk in you see a lot of the traditional elements: paper lanterns on the ceiling and high top tables for sitting and slurping up the ramen. Then you see this wall with pictures and a statement saying Monster Hell Ramen Challenge. I've never seen that before at a ramen restaurant. We sat down and the table next to us were 2 guys on a live video podcast doing the Monster Hell Ramen Challenge. I really had no idea what was going on until I read the menu and saw the challenge. If you've ever seen food challenges before you know there's large amounts of food and sometimes very spicy food to see if you can handle it. They menu allows you to pick your meal and add spicy chilies with heat levels from 1 to 5. Most meals only allow you to go to level 4, but the Monster Hell Ramen Challenge allows you to go to level 5. These guys offered a bowl of this to me but I wasn't up for the challenge, so I got level 3 in my ramen. There's different types of spicy. There's hot spicy that sort of burns your lips and mouth and leaves a tingling sensation. Then there is chili spicy that hits the back of your throat, but doesn't really burn your lips and mouth. This is the chili spicy and level 3 hit the back of my throat and I immediately started coughing. I can't imagine what level 5 would do. Overall this is a cool place and the food is pretty good. Definitely worth trying and do the challenge if you're up to it. read more

The freezing temps last night called for some hot and spicy ramen. And so we headed to Strings Ramen in Aurora given the limited number of ramen places we have in the area. There was no wait when we went it and we were seated quite promptly. The inside is colorful, modern and has plenty of seating. We started with some edamame which came with some seasoning which we loved. We also got a Chinese beer which was very good, we never had Chinese draft before. I got the Hell Ramen level - 2. The broth was hot and sooo flavorful. I have a high spice tolerance so level 2 felt normal for me, but if you have low spice tolerance you might have to start at level 1. I want to try level 3 next time. My husband got the curry ramen which is a new addition to the menu. It was mild and quite flavorful too. The noodles were plump and perfectly chewy and the delicious broth satisfied all our cravings. Loved the toppings and meat in both the ramens. Will definitely be back to try other ramens. read more

I finally got to try the new Ramen place in Naperville. I will say I really like this one, I been having a hard time find a place near by but I think my search has come to an end. The broth is phenomenal, so full of flavor and dense. I added their signature "hell" spice to mine and it was just the perfect amount of spice and unique flavor. The interesting part about this place is you have to order and pay at your table through the QR code so it's pretty much no customer service. That's the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars. With Yelp if you check in you will receive a free edamame, but please note you have to walk over to the server to tell them. If not they will not accept your coupon and charge you for the free item. Overall I will definitely be coming back here because the ramen is top tier! read more

Visited for the first time in Aurora and decided on carry out (the restaurant was packed on a Friday night) Ramen. I was excited and pleasantly surprised! Ordered the Shoyu level 2 vegetarian and added one slice of pork loin. Got home and everything was there like we'd discussed. I put it together ( 3 minutes in microwave) and I slurped away! So much Ramen I could not eat it all. Would definitely try again!! read more

We moved from SF which means we're pretty used to great ramen spots. We're so glad we found out about this ramen spot in the area. I heard many good things about their Chicago loc but we're not really interested in going to Chicago anymore so we were excited to learn that they have a spot here in the suburbs close to our place. THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Firstly, the place is SO CLEAN. We see them always on the go and cleaning every little thing/corner. Second, RAMEN IS SPOT ON. The noodles were cooked to perfection, their base umami but not salty at all as well as their chicken karaage -- usually they're way too salty, not at Strings. It was perfect. Service was phenomenal. The food looked amazing, I loved the vibe and ambiance of the place it was well kept and clean, the service was good too the lady that helped me was honest and friendly. The problem was I do not recommend this place for ramen, I ordered the tonkotsu pork belly ramen and I had high hopes. The broth wasn't as flavorful as I thought it would be, the piece of meat was good and filling but I noticed they really fill the plate with vegetables and etc. I finished my plate but I left disappointed the noodles also were a weird texture maybe not cooked long enough for me but I didn't leave the restaurant blissfully full. I wouldn't come back simply because the ramen was not my cup of tea, I also noticed there was no soy sauce and that the egg tasted spoiled, almost like it's been sitting for a while. I wish I could have left a better review but if the food doesn't taste good or satisfying I can't help it read more

I've been to the Strings in Chinatown countless times for some late night eats after barhopping, usually within an hour of closing. With those days behind me, I was excited to hear that they were opening a new location in the burbs. While an early Sunday dinner with the wife is a much different circumstance than filling my drunken crave, the ramen here was equally as satisfying. This location was almost self-service. You scan a QR code and order and pay through the Toast webpage. The food came out quick, and it was a super efficient process for impatient people like me. My go to order is always the Kuro Buta pork belly Tonkotsu. Broth This is usually the star of the show for me. The broth had that depth and fattiness that I really enjoy. It was very rich, salty, and meaty and I slurped it all up. It's up there with High Five and Wasabi as some of my favorite broths I've tasted. While the bowls look pretty big, it's actually a little misleading since it narrows significantly closer to the bottom. Noodles The noodles were on the thinner side and had the firmer, al dente texture that I prefer. The portion enough to fill me up without needing to order some kae dama, and wasn't too much to throw off the balance with the broth. Toppings The Kuro Buta comes with a slice of Berkshire pork. The pork in a tonkotsu is usually hit or miss for me, but I loved the pork in this bowl. It was super tender and had a good amount of fat attached to it. The edges felt slightly caramelized to give a nice crisp. While it only comes with half an egg, at least that half was damn good. The yolk wasn't completely runny, but still had that molten gel consistency. Overall, Strings ramen just consistently hits the spot. Their tonkotsu is up there in terms of my favorite ramen places in Chicagoland. It's quick and never disappoints. read more
