It checked all the boxes, romantic, intimate, decor, reasonably priced dinner with helpful and friendly staff. There are many converted dining areas among the rooms of the house. We were in the parlor I think overlooking the back yard just beyond the glass french doors where our table was positioned. Very pleasant. We enjoyed our dinner although the food was not the star experience I hoped for but nevertheless enjoyable from the limited choices. There were no menus. Waitress provided the details and it included the beverages. After dinner we were invited to walk through the various rooms of the house which were lovely. The entire downstairs were dining areas. The one that caught my eye was the library. It had a fireplace which added a warm feeling to the dimly lit room. There was also a separate dining area by the front of the house sporting more antique furniture and a fireplace. As we toured the house we went upstairs where all the bedrooms were. Each had their own charm. I expect those rooms were for changing areas for wedding parties. The mansion is mostly used for wedding events. It is a unique and lovely place in Thomasville to visit and I would highly recommend it for an event.

While the caterer was great it would have helped tremendously if we could have communicated directly with the caterer instead of having to go through our point person at the Holt House. I believe inquiries would have been answered in a timely manner and we might have gotten a little better direction on some of our different options for food. The one drawback we had consistently was communication. Everything was great at the start and then as time went on our responses from our coordinator took weeks or were sometimes not answered at all. This became very frustrating. There were promises to get back to us by certain dates with answers to our questions which rarely happened. I believe they most likely do not have enough staff to cover the many locations they have. And I do mean perfectly! That's rare!Weddings can be very stressful but honestly they took the stress right out by their knowledge, experience, work ethic and professional care over the entire day. The day was in their capable hands as they coordinated each detail. The weather looked a bit ominous early on but they planned for every option to host inside or out but then the sun did came out and their plan to use multiple spaces for day and night were the best decision anyway because why not want to use as much of this special property as possible! Our family also had the pleasure of staying at the venue the whole weekend and it was lovely to say the least! Comfy beds, soft sheets and pillows and a good hot shower after a few long days of getting ready for the wedding were so welcomed! We can't thank them enough for making the day so "extra" special! They have nearby hotel accommodations and recommended caterers with inclusive and a la carte options. My sandwich came with 'comeback' sauce but I opted to leave it off and got some mayo on the side instead. When my sandwich arrived it was huge! It had two perfectly seasoned fried chicken tenders on it with the best crispy breading. I could hear an audible crunch when I took my first bite. Also, they are making it to order because it was the hottest chicken sandwich I've gotten anywhere ever. The bun was a potato bun and was beautifully toasted which just added to the textures of this sandwich. They also served it with a thick sliced pickle, maybe it's Grillo's or something similar but it was delicious. The fries were a seasoned crinkle cut and they were super hot, fresh and crispy on the outside. My husband's grilled chicken club was massive too! It was loaded with bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise. I took a bite and knew I'd be ordering that one next time. We just had water to drink but they serve beer, some on tap some in cans/bottles, wine, sodas and other drinks. They even have coffee, hot chocolate and hot tea available. The space is open and a little sparsely decorated. It feels like they need to add some soft touches as the sound echoes a bit due to the hard tables and chairs as well as the tile floors. Golfers coming and going with mud and grass on their shoes would make carpet impossible but they could do something with the decor. The 19th Hole is one of those hidden gems that's tucked away where people don't seem to know or remember it's there but the food is so so good you're missing out if you don't go.

We recently had our High Point Central High School Class of 2000 25-year reunion at Congdon Yards…read more Our reunion took place on the third floor of "The Factory" building, inside "The Spinning Room." In short, I thought the space worked out great for the event. The event had less than 100 guests, catering by Pepper Moon Catering of Greensboro, a cash bar, music, an Epson projector and screen for a presentation/slideshow, and speakers with microphone. Take a look at my pictures to get a feel for the event space, vibe, and decor. On a Friday night, parking was free, plentiful, and easy. Congdon Yards consists of two 1920s Adams-Millis hosiery factory buildings in downtown High Point, next to Truist Point (baseball stadium). The property is named after the Congdon family, founders of Old Dominion Freight Line of Thomasville. Congdon Yards isn't the first time these old multistory brick buildings have been repurposed into event spaces and for other uses. In 2010, I attended a wedding at "The Loft at Union Square," which I believe is now "The Loft" at Congdon Yards: https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-loft-at-union-square-high-point The current incarnation of Congdon Yards opened in phases beginning in late 2020. The first building, branded as "Plant Seven," opened in spring 2021. The second building, The Factory, opened on June 12, 2023. There are a multitude of rooms and event spaces, designed for weddings, parties, business meetings, lectures/presentations, etc. There are also public common areas, a cafe, a restaurant, offices, and "The Generator." The Generator provides access to industrial-grade woodworking machines for niche projects, an obvious nod to High Point, "the furniture capital of the world." The cafe is called Lil's Coffee Bar. It's located at "The Commons" in Plant Seven. It's only open Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm. The restaurant is called Earl's Landing. It's located on the first floor of The Factory. It's fine dining; open Monday-Saturday for dinner only and Sunday for brunch only. In general, Congdon Yards is a nice upgrade to High Point's downtown scene, which continues to evolve thanks to Business High Point-Chamber of Commerce, the HP365 nonprofit, state grants, and private donations and investments. It's well done and similar to a lot of other popular and successful revitalization projects around the country, where "historic" buildings have been restored and adapted for modern mixed use. Like those developments, the Congdon Yards designers did a good job blending contemporary elements into the old factory spaces while preserving their rustic feel. This was a special event, and the dinner menu is not quite yet solidified, but I want to a) talk about the delicious food, b) the beauty of the inn, and c) the hospitable and friendly staff at the Inn/Restaurant. The Inn itself is beautiful and historic. It's located in the heart of downtown Winston, but has its own parking lot which is a huge plus. Our dinner was in a reserved room on a Friday evening. It was a great room for our group of about 11-12. Our waiter, Gary, was THE BEST! He had a radiant personality, and was super attentive! The chefs (Kelly and Juan) came out to talk to us and were a pleasure. The food! I can't wait for this to be a constant menu at the restaurant! We had Fried Green Tomatoes, Mandarin and Goat Cheese Walnut Salad, Braised Short Rib over polenta dish, and Crème Brûlée cheesecake. YUM! And the drinks were very unique and delicious.
