LONG overdue review on the Villa, but hopefully well worth it. I met the owner of the Villa,…read moreBillie, at a wedding show. Immediately, my now husband and I were impressed. They were new venue vendors and eager to work with us despite our UNIQUE wedding (midnight wedding on July 4). Billie and I met at the Villa and it was love at first sight. Such a beautiful building. At the time, the outdoor grounds were unimpressive due to the season and the fact they had literally just opened. Also, the outdoor terrace had these HUGE/MASSIVE umbrella stands. I affectionately called them transformers. They were hideous and oddly, different colors for the awning. We discussed remove prior to the wedding and Billie said that would happen. But once inside...SOLD! There is so much space inside of the Villa. I was actually overwhelmed with the space options because the more space equates to more decorating ($$$). Lol! But, that was one of the main reasons to book...so many options. Throughout the planning process, Billie would allow me to come with my decorator and bridesmaids whenever I needed too (and never rushed us). I was thrilled to be her first contract. That process was very efficient too. I was nervous since we were both 'green', but the contract signing and review was absolutely professionally done. Billie was always very complimentary of my wedding ideas and became a social media fan (thank you Billie for the shout out on your social media when I appeared on Say Yes to the Dress). Now, do you remember those 'Transformers'?. It was getting closer to the wedding and they were still there. We had placed in the contract they would be removed. I spoke to Billie and she reassured me they would be removed and they eventually were. They were so MASSIVE she had to hire a certain piece of equipment to remove those umbrellas. Thank God she did. Rehearsal was an hour (we did go over...I think this is the one time Billie was a little agitated with timing ... shoot, I was too because I really like to respect rules and other people's time.) I would suggest Brides take advantage of purchasing extra time for this. An hour just isn't long enough...not even for the most prepared and I PROMISE you, I was very prepared. It was the wedding party who wasn't. Oh, I did have one minor issue, but it was also resolved. Billie had enhance the place a little (which I knew she was since the venue was new), but unfortunately the new additions did not meet my decor expectations. Billie had a few HUGE planters placed outside under the area that was to be my 'arch'. I am not a greenery person, so I was thankful when Billie agreed to use a hand truck and have them hidden from sight on the day of the wedding. I think each planter was well over 100 pounds. They were moved to the 'side'...but they still were visible in my pictures, however. No biggie though. Also, on the inside, I had paid for our initials to be uplighted on the wall in the reception area. Unfortunately, Billie had just added a new chalkboard wall in the room. Oddly, the chalkboard wall is not centered (for good reason) along the wall. Looks beautiful but again, it did not go with my year long plans of Urban Chic which included my already paid for monogram uplighting. There is a GOD however, because there was nothing I could do about the removal of this chalkboard wall as it was now a permanent fixture. My decorator and I decided to hang white, sheet curtains in front of it so my monogram uplighting could still be centered alongside the wall and not look weird adjacent to am empty chalkboard wall. Fast forward to the day of...my uplighting guy breaks my monogram uplighting. Sigh! So, that chalkboard wall that I hated became my blessing. Billie's Mother was on-hand helping out and hears about my broken uplight. She takes immediate action and replicated my monogram design on that chalkboard wall. When I tell you I was SURPRISED and full of joy at this beautiful and QUICK gesture by her Mom. I tell everyone to this day that this is EXACTLY what customer service should look and feel like. She did an AMAZING job! Pics to come! Day of the wedding was absolutely phenomenal. Billie let us in hours in advance and my decorator was there since morning setting up. Other vendors (cake, lighting, dj, photogs, etc.) described coming to set up easy as pie, as well. The bridal suite now had the CUTEST flower wall which makes for the BEST photo backdrop ever. Billie was around the entire time. She just made my day (should I say night) go so smoothly. She gave us ample time to clean up afterwards and even pitched in a little. Billie is amazeballs. She is such a sweet soul; easy to work with; and professional. I pray that her business is growing and from the looks of her social media; business is REALLY good. To anyone looking for a beautiful venue...the 'House of Love' will surely meet every expectation.

One staff member told us 750 guests were expected, another said over 900. Either way, it was a ton of people. Every single room in the Emerywood clubhouse was filled. There were long lines for the buffets, one set up in each hallway. The parking lot was full, so people were parking on the grass and in the street. I've never seen it so busy! I thought we're still supposed to be in a recession. The clubhouse was decked out for the holidays. A big "Happy Holidays" ice sculpture with changing lights was set up inside the entrance. At the ends of either hallway were two giant, well-decorated Christmas trees. Smaller Christmas trees were positioned in various rooms. A group of Christmas Carolers walked around and sang. They were dressed in traditional English attire and sounded great. Santa Claus was also present and he was quite an authentic-looking one, from beard to costume. The kiddies LOVED him. I almost wanted to get a picture with him, but I didn't want to stand in line with all the little munchkins. Because it was so crowded, the tables were really packed in, especially in the grill room. This made it difficult to maneuver in certain spots. Maybe they can improve upon this next Christmas. I'm not sure if they expected this many people to show up. I don't remember all of the foods, but some of the spread included three different kinds of salads, casseroles, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, and freshly sliced prime rib, ham, and turkey. The dessert bar consisted of a variety of pies and ice cream. Pecan pie FTW. Generally, the food was good, as it normally is. I'm pretty sure the staff was at full force on Monday night. Everyone was incredibly polite and warm welcoming, even though they had to work on Christmas Eve. Kudos to them. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at HPCC's Christmas Eve dinner.

We had a good stay at the Courtyard by Marriott High Point. Based on our experience, we'd stay here…read moreagain. The hotel was clean and comfortable with easy parking and good service. During our stay, Courtyard High Point met the standard I expected of the Courtyard brand. We stayed in Room 419 on the 4th floor (top floor). It had a king bed and a sofa bed. For four nights, I spent 82,654 United Airlines MileagePlus award miles (cleared out my account) plus $419.96. I booked through United's website / United Hotels. I found this hotel through United because I was trying to use up all my miles. As an American Express Platinum card member, I have Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status without meeting any stay requirements. That said, I didn't notice nor took advantage of any of the Gold Elite benefits. I was supposed to receive a "welcome gift of points upon arrival" (none were posted to my account, which I had linked to the reservation), late checkout up to 2pm (didn't need it), and a complimentary upgrade to an enhanced room at check-in (didn't happen); subject to availability. Standard check-in and check-out times are 3pm and 12pm, respectively. As a Gold Elite, I'm also supposed to get faster free in-room Wi-Fi. I didn't get that either. I just connected to the standard free Wi-Fi, which was fine / usable, but I would've preferred faster internet. I called the hotel ahead of time to verify details and spoke with Toni. She was wonderful. Super nice and a shining example of excellent hospitality and customer service. Courtyard High Point is lucky to have her. The other staff that we interacted with were polite and professional. Our room was very spacious. It had an unusually long and wide entry area / hallway leading to the bed and sitting area; ideal for spreading out our luggage. We had a view of the old Oak Hollow Mall and parking lot. Part of the mall we could see is now the Roy B Culler Jr Senior Center, named after the former mayor of High Point. I went to his house when I was a kid and saw his elaborate model train set, but I digress. The bathroom was spacious as well. Outstanding shower water pressure. We had a microwave, mini fridge, and Keurig machine. Unfortunately, there was no free coffee in the lobby so we had to rely on Keurig coffee each morning (not our preferred coffee). Bummer. A lot of hotels in this tier offer fresh, hot, free coffee in the lobby. Cleaning service was every other day. There was one day when I had to go downstairs and ask for more Keurig K-Cup pods. By the way, for really good coffee in High Point, I recommend DeBeen Espresso: https://www.yelp.com/biz/debeen-espresso-high-point During our stay, we went there for coffee too. The couch (sofa bed) in our room looked dingy and grossed us out a bit. I liked the bed and thought it was pretty comfy, but it wasn't the comfiest among hotel beds we've slept in recently. My wife said it was lumpy. The nightstand USB and power outlets didn't stick well, so they didn't work reliably and charge all of our devices (kind of annoying to charge a phone on the desk on the other side of the room). Overall, the room amenities were OK. According to Travel Weekly, this hotel was built in 2003 and was last renovated in 2011. https://www.travelweekly.com/Hotels/High-Point-NC/Courtyard-High-Point-p51804414 In general, from the indoor pool to the nicely landscaped outdoor seating area in the back, I thought the property looked reasonably well kept. My wife commented that it was dated and looked mid-2000s. Oak Hollow Mall officially closed on March 10, 2017 and was a shell of its former self before then. Therefore, the immediate area around the hotel is very quiet. The nearby Target is a plus. I remember when the High Point University building next door used to be a Circuit City. Since 2022, Courtyard by Marriott High Point has been a Certified Autism Center, supporting the city's "ongoing efforts as a Certified Autism Destination." https://www.instagram.com/p/DLC-Ll-PRCO/
