Wow, I've never been a guest at the B&B, I have been there for the coffee and also for events such as the Westerwood 5K, which they so graciously hosted. It is a beautiful old home that's been tastefully converted into a beautiful bed-and-breakfast. Great coffee, super friendly people highly recommended. read more

Great old house a lot of charm great coffee and baked goods locally owned and run business

After church, my husband and I were looking for a place to enjoy coffee and something sweet. Double Oaks cut our attention and I'm so glad we found this beautiful mansion, now a Bed and Breakfast. The foyer is absolutely beautiful to your left a sitting area with a fireplace and tons of books. To the right what it seems maybe the music room with a piano, tons of music scripts and sitting area as well and the you have the coffee/bakery shop. My husband and I share a delicious coffee cake, cappuccino for me double espresso for my babe read more

AH I wanted so badly to love the brunch here, but I have to say it was pretty disappointing. I'm giving 4 stars for the ambiance and friendly host we had! The food; however, fell totally short of our expectations. We had been eyeing DOB&B for a while so we were super excited to finally try it, but we had some trouble locating the menu online. We reached out and had one emailed to us, and we were told they were still finalizing. We came on a Sunday morning at 11, (parking is on the street) and we waited a few minutes before being greeted. No biggie, it was busy and a special event was happening for a fundraiser. We added our names to the waiting list and went to grab coffee from the outdoor pickup area of the Borough. It was great! Super nice baristas and great coffee. The sweet treats also looked divine. We sat in a few rocking chairs on the front porch and enjoyed the scenery while we sipped our coffees. Loved this experience! We got seated in the front right room next to the grand piano. I love the decorations and vibes here, very cool. Our first waiter (also the host) was extremely nice! Our second waiter came and we had some menu questions. Unfortunately, they weren't very helpful but it's okay! They were also really busy and we waited a while for refills (our other waiter was much more on top of it though!) We landed on our choices and got chicken and waffles, avocado toast, and the pick 2 from the combo options. Eh. The chicken and waffles were more like funnel cake pancakes, but not as tasty. The chicken was a little burnt and overall it was underwhelming, especially based on the description. My friend loved her avocado toast, but I thought it was a little bland. My other friend said her potatoes were just okay. Ambiance - 5 stars Location - 4 stars Food - 2.5-3 Service - 3 stars I wouldn't go back for brunch, but I do plan to come for wine and pizza one Wednesday as I hear great things. Hopefully, I can update my review to reflect more positivity based on my next experience. read more

There are only two words I can think of to describe Double Oaks Bed and Breakfast in Greensboro - Hidden Gem. Hear me out: The perfect crisp, fall evening. A beautiful wrap around porch with abundant bistro lighting casting an intimate glow. Delectable food. Tasty wine. Great friends. Please tell us what there's not to love. I'll wait. Seriously though - if you enjoy a bit of history with your dinner, this is a fantastic place to be wined and dined by chef Jared Hugg. They do weekly pizza specials as well as dinner Thursday-Sunday and a Sunday brunch! Don't forget wine Wednesdays where their wine selections are half off! During our first visit to Double Oaks the atmosphere and food could not be matched. The intimacy of our dinner experience is second to none in Greensboro. The topping was when Chef Jared came to our table to chat (AND he had a wine dinner of 40+ people going on inside!) and made sure that everything was top notch for us. You can't really ask for anything more than a busy chef to personally check on your table. The food was excellent - dare I say best mussels I've EVER had. The sauce was a mix between Italian tomato sauce with whole grain mustard to add a needed tang. I could have eaten two loaves of bread dipped in that sauce. Every single other dish I tried is something I'd order for myself over again. I am chomping at the bits to make a brunch reservation! I was pleasatly surprised with service, atmosphere, and food at Double Oaks. So glad I've finally discovered this gem! read more

This is one of our favorite spots! We go here once a week during wine Wednesdays. Every Wednesday they have pizzas, wine tastings and a jazz band! Their pizzas are the perfect individual sizes and there is always a weekly special (add them on IG for updates on specials). The one below is their Jamaican jerk chicken! We also visit Double Oaks once or twice a month for Sunday brunch! Their brunch menu is small but everything on it is great! My favorite is their frittata which has seasonable vegetables and a potato hash. Recently, they revamped their menu for spring and their veggie gnocchi is AMAZING! See the picture below! PS they only do dinner on Thursday-Saturday read more

Double Oaks Bed & Breakfast - Bed & Breakfast Near Me - Greensboro, North Carolina

What an incredible place nestled amongst some of the historic houses and neighborhoods surrounding downtown Greensboro. Double Oaks Bed & Breakfast is a lovely site to have an event, get away for a staycation, or just head to for a meal and drinks with friends. That's exactly what we did on our most recent visit. Friends of ours are slated to have a wedding at this venue soon, and we decided to meet up with them for dinner one evening. We were fortunate that we were enjoying mild July temperatures and grabbed a seat on their large multi-tiered back deck. This area is beautiful, surrounded by an Oasis of terraces, large trees, lovely fixtures, and lots of greenery. We started with an appetizer of elote corn as well as one of their critically acclaimed pizzas to share. Both items were delicious, and I'm not usually one for these very thin crust pizzas, but in this case the toppings were so delicious, it could have been served on saltine crackers and still be good. For dinner I enjoyed a cajun seafood pasta dish whose exact name currently escapes me, but that doesn't take away from the fact I gobbled every last bit of it down gleefully. My wife had their steak frites, the meat was tender, the gravy it was served in was flavorful, and the fries that came with it were excellent. For dessert, we split a lemon bar that was deliciously tart and had a perfect texture. I had to wrestle a bite or two away from my wife and her friend. All in all, just a lovely place to be. I have not stayed the night here, but I'm sure that would also be an excellent experience. We'll have to do that for a staycation soon! read more

I had the pleasure of visiting their coffee shop for an Yelp event, and couldn't wait to return to check out the brunch they offer on Sundays. The home is absolutely stunning. Once we entered we were greeted and immediately seated. I love how we were seated in our own little room. The inside of the home is warm, welcoming and well decorated. There is a piano, large stairs and the outside is very peaceful and beautiful. Service was amazing! The brunch menu is small and not overwhelming. I only wish they had a kid menu. The food was fresh, colorful and filled with flavor! They also sale cinnamon rolls from black magnolia! read more

The most whimsical bed & breakfast right down the street from downtown Greensboro off of Mendenhall sitting in Westerwood neighborhood with amazing curb appeal! Plenty of street parking but be careful of blocking a friendly neighbor's driveway. This is the 2nd time I've been to double oaks but the first was for a charcuterie board making event, this was the first time I've been there to eat and it was good! I went with friends for brunch on a rainy Sunday and we all had lattes from Borough coffee which sits in the porch of the b&b which is so cute and they were so kind! They have two ordering doors to order directly from them, one at the porch and one that's faced inside of one of the dining rooms. You can also order from your server off the menu too. I got the lavender latte which was so good and just enough kick for energy! My friend got the chai latte with lavender added which she said was incredible! The b&b itself has a good variety of seating for bigger families/groups or tables for 2. They don't take reservations, it's just first come so we got there early around 11 to have brunch just in case and had no wait! Their menu has all the staple breakfast items and I like their BYO breakfast plate option which I'll probably get next time. We all got the breakfast bowl which had grits, hash browns, bacon, scallions and topped with a fried egg and a special sauce. You can get the egg cooked however you want to upon request. The special sauce was some type of a curry sauce but tasted like chili to me and looked like it too! The bowls were good, honestly the serving size was smaller than expected so I wish I ordered toast with it to be more fulfilling but it was good with some extra salt & pepper added! And I liked the curry sauce, it had a savory kick to give the grits a bit more flavor. The mimosa flavor options were a delight! I tried the strawberry which was very good, just the right sweetness and tanginess to balance the Prosecco! The one thing I do think that needs to be trained a bit more is the serving staff, at least the one we had...our server wasn't the warmest and didn't check on us nor say thank you at all when giving us our tabs or taking them from us which was disappointing. I even said thank you to her when handing her my ticket but received no response. She also kept sitting our drinks including the mimosas in front of my friends toddler within reach of him (& could've been a quick accident especially with his iPad on the table that kept falling down) instead of placing them in front of each of us specifically. She kept serving us on his side of the table versus walking around the table which we were sitting in the middle of the dining room with plenty of space around us so it was just odd that impacted our overall experience. Either way, I definitely want to go back on a day that's nicer out so we can enjoy their outdoor garden area and try some other menu items like Black Magnolia's cinnamon rolls that we didn't have this day! We also def want to check out one of their wine Wednesdays! read more

I hate to give this review, based on past experience and my fondness for this beautiful location, but my most recent experience was sub-par. This review is based solely on the pizza offering on Wine Wednesday. I'm not sure if something is going on with the kitchen or what extenuating circumstances may be involved, so there may be more to the story. We ordered margarita pizzas and got something resembling a dollop of mozzarella with a few Chery tomato's and some basil on a pre-made (I'm guessing frozen) plain, bland "crust." Mind you, we have been here many times and had a delightful stay. Hopefully this is a temporary change in the menu and will be short lived. read more

Double Oaks is a stately turn of the century revival mansion built in 1906 by NC's first registered architect Harden Martin Thomas. It is now a glorious bread and breakfast and restaurant. I have been here twice now and greatly enjoyed both of my experiences. It has such a cool vibe. It has been restored and decorated with turn of the century decor. The front porch screams for an iced tea and relaxing with a good book or an evening glass of wine. You enter the grand foyer get a spectacular view of the even grander staircase! The place is so much fun to explore from the music parlor, dining room, living room and kitchen. Upstairs are the lovely bedrooms that the bread and breakfast guests enjoy, canopy beds, etc. I have been for wine Wednesday's when a jazz band plays in the music parlor. Divine homemade pizzas are made for purchase on Wednesday nights. Thursday and Friday nights you can have a lovely dinner at The Double Oaks. You can dine inside or out side on their beautiful lighted patio. I was treated for my birthday last night. Our dinner started with a nice bottle of Prosecco to celebrate. Our waitperson was very sweet and had great recommendations on the menu. She recommended the seafood linguini to me and it was absolutely delicious. My friends had the grain bowl and the hangar steak with frites. Both friends greatly enjoyed their meals as well. We topped off our dinner with tart lemon bars. Between the ambience, the friendly waitperson and the cuisine, the Double Oak Bread and Breakfast was an extremely enjoyable experience. I will be a repeat customer!! read more

We started coming to Double Oaks in October 2020 but it seem. We live in Greensboro but after many months of sheltering in place we needed a Staycation and Double Oaks did NOT disappoint! Their COVID precautions were impeccable even early on. Extreme attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the establishment. Since then we have had one additional overnight for Valentine's Day and several visits on Wednesdays and most recently dinner tonight. We welcome every opportunity to support them and help them to continue to grow their business and they exceed expectations every time. read more

Let me start this by saying I haven't yet had the privilege to stay at Double Oaks B&B; however, it's on my to do list. For now, I want to gush about how wonderful the food at Double Oaks is. Double Oaks celebrates Wine Wednesday each week, featuring a selection of pizzas, wings, specialty dishes (e.g. lasagna or soup of the day) and wine. We devoured an order of boneless wings with the B&B's signature Bee Sting sauce and a veggie pizza. The Bee Sting sauce is the perfect balance of sweet + heat (I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to spice but I could drink this sauce from a bottle). The veggies on the pizza were fresh and flavorful - someone in that kitchen knows their way around a vegetable! When placing my order and picking up food, staff members were extremely kind and gracious. I love the variety each week and can't wait to return for more. read more

A friend booked us a reservation for a double-date at Double Oaks and it was double awesome! This was my first visit, and certainly will not be the last. Walking into the foyer, everything is beautifully decorated and placed. Much thought was put into the acquisition of furniture and design. We were seated outside in the most beautiful yard! It's surrounded by huge trees, string lights, giant porch, gorgeous plants and flowers. The ambience was simply perfect. Our server was excellent. We enjoyed a pizza and street corn as appetizers, and I really liked the steak & frites for my entre. Everything was so well flavored, the meat perfectly tender. We topped the night off with a slice of their lemon bar with lavender. OMG, this was so amazing that I didn't want to share with my partner. But I did.... because he threatened to drive home without me. Which is fair enough-the dessert was so delicious I considered an Uber.... If you want an intimate meal with beautiful scenery and decadent food, it's definitely worth the visit. read more

This review refers to the "Dinner Evenings", served on Thursday and Friday nights. The graciousness of this beautiful home is evident both inside and out, even in the middle of winter. Various seating combinations are available in several rooms downstairs. Our party of 3 had Carolina Coast Pasta, Pumpkin crusted chicken, and Salmon with a honey-dill glaze and we all agreed the food was stellar. Our server was attentive without being obtrusive while handling multiple tables in a single room of the house. We also tried both desserts - a s'mores cookie with graham cracker ice cream and a toffee bread pudding. Both did not disappoint. The ambiance of Double Oaks really sets it apart from your typical restaurant establishment, and if you're looking for something a little different, give them a try. read more

While we haven't stayed overnight here, on April 13, we attended Wine Tuesday with family and friends. My niece lives in the area and seems to bring husband, family and others to this location for dining. We walked in and a GREAT jazz band was playing. We enjoyed wine, a dill pickle pizza, Buffalo wings, tater tots as well as the company and music. The back yard has beautiful trees providing great shade and atmosphere with several tables for casual dining out doors. There are also some veranda tables available. It's all first come first served. You place your order with the cashier and bring your own drinks back to the table, but your food order is brought to you when ready. We'd been there a couple of hours, and were about ready to leave when the band was finished. We did enjoy the wine itself. I prefer glass to plastic, but given the outdoor setting, I understand the practicality of plastic. The price seemed a bit much, however there was no cover charge for the band, nor was there a minimum order. The food was fun and good as well, making the whole evening simply delightful beyond expectations. I spoke with NIcole as I cashed out and she encouraged me to tour the bedrooms/suites that were open rather than occupied that evening. Our whole group did. Completed in early 1909, the Harden Thomas Martin House - now known as Double Oaks - is one of only a handful of surfing examples of Colonial revival style architecture in the city of Greensboro. It was accepted into the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The rooms/suites we viewed were just beautifully done! While I love my niece and her hospitality, when my husband and I know our dates for a return trip to Greensboro next year we definitely plan to check on availability at Double Oaks. My niece and her husband said they would like to join us, too. read more

This is a gorgeous property. Probably the best B&B we have been to. The room was fabulous. Very comfortable king bed. We were there for the Wine and jazz night on Wed. And had a really nice time. Amenities are wonderful, and the full breakfast is fantastic. Chef Michael goes out of his way to make things to your liking. His frittata is one of the best I've ever had. French toast is customized to your order. We liked it so much, we got a gift certificate for our Nephew and new wife who will be moving to Greensboro in June. We will definitely be visiting again too. Double Oaks is everything you want from a B & B. Things are done right. Do yourself a favor and visit! read more

I honestly can't say enough good things about Double Oaks, not only is it breathtaking inside and out but they are serving up some of the best food in Greensboro! It all started when I decided to try something new and I am so glad I did! I had ordered one of the "pizzas of the week" and upon arrival the ambiance, the sound of the jazz music coming from the back, the big beautiful white columns I just couldn't wait to go back! I went for brunches and wine Wednesday while it was still warm out. As it turned colder we arranged a private dinner for myself and a few other guest (10 total) we were given a tour of the home by the owner James and man is it truly gorgeous! The Hugg brothers prepared an amazing dinner and it was a perfect evening! I would recommend Double Oaks to anyone it's a hidden gem! Have you ever been to Asheville and found one of those out of the way places with great food, a perfect atmosphere, and great music? That's the experience at Double Oaks. There is a multi-level deck built around the Oak providing comfortable seating that gives an easy view of the stage. There's plenty of wait staff, a real luxury these days, and great craft beers on tap. We had a couple of their specialty pizzas and were truly impressed. Made a trip to high point for furniture and decided to check out a local B&B. Found Double Oaks online and made our reservations. OMG we were NOT disappointed! This place was fantastic! The owners & workers were incredibly nice, upon arrival, James showed us the layout of the whole place, ending in the kitchen by the taps. He said to help ourselves, it's an honor bar and the first beer is on the house. What a nice surprise and they had a great choice of beers. The room was very era authentic and comfortable. Breakfast in the am was the best frittata that I've ever had! Local bacon, roasted broccoli, a hint of curry, and drizzled with a delicious sauce! I would go back JUST for the frittata! This B&B is so cute and warm and comfortable. We decided to stay for brunch after getting coffee from The Borough Coffee. The gentleman who preparers our coffees recommended that we try it. It has a nice, grand entrance and was greeted by a cute, well decorated Christmas tree in front of a wide staircase. Inside smelled like comfort. Can't describe it, but you'll know exactly what I mean when you visit. You're able to choose where you'd like to sit. We ran for the table right in front of the wood-burning fireplace. There are also plenty of seating in the rooms at the entrance if you prefer to lounge around. One patron was even working with her Borough coffee in hand. Our server was nice and checked on us like clockwork. We each ordered different meals and rotated between us to sample everything. All of our meals were very good (pics are posted) and very, very filling. None of us were able to finish, so we got the rest to go. The staff let us roam throughout the B&B, with the exception of entering the bedrooms with closed doors. A bunch of the rooms had open doors, but it appeared that the guests had checked out and hasn't been clean yet. The rooms were a nice size and the bathrooms are small, yet arranged where it's functional. There is a lounge area on the 2nd floor and a brunch style (that's what I call it) balcony, which would be perfect for sunny days. The 3rd floor has exposed wooden beams that accented the vaulted ceilings. I loved that aesthetic. I would love to stay a night to get the full experience. read more

I wish I could give Double Oaks 1000 stars. We had a private dinner with a tour led by, James, the owner. Your next stay in Greensboro should be at the Double Oaks Bed & Breakfast! Here are just a few of the many, many reasons why: James and his staff are tremendous - friendly and helpful all the time. Breakfast each morning was like having my own private chef! Next was the room, spot on. Comfy cozy living area with ottoman to put your feet up and a bed to die for! Bathrooms are luxurious and the decor is a treat for the artistic eye. We then found amazing restaurants with the help of the handy "what to do in the area", book provided in each room. The grand finale was breakfast... Swoooooooon. I am obsessed with this B&B. Stayed here for a job interview and it made it feel like a vacation. The space is gorgeous, furnished with period furniture but still cozy and comfortable (you don't feel like you're in a museum). The food was delicious - I actually ate something the morning before an interview and big presentation which I never do. There are four wines and seven beers on tap, claw-foot tubs, cozy lounges stocked with good magazines, gorgeous porches for relaxing on. Don't worry that you'll miss technology, there's wifi and the tvs have roku and netflix. And I cannot say enough about the people.
