    Curry lentil vegan soup
    Michelle S.

I'm in town just for the night for work and asked my hotel where I could get a latte and something healthy to eat and they with them in a strictly organic. Luckily I got here before they close because I would have been sad to realize I missed out on their delicious soup and latte! The soup of the day was in curry lentil vegan soup and it was delicious! Chock full of lentils and other veggies with just a hint of spice but not spicy . They had some fall seasonal drinks and I got the shortbread cookie tea with some soy milk steamed into it and it was amazing. They say it's a vanilla Roobio's tea with almond and hazelnut syrup. I asked for half the amount of syrups to cut the sugar and they happily obliged. I also ordered a pumpkin snickerdoodle for later so I haven't tried it yet as of the writing of this review but I'm sure it's meant to be amazing

Based on at least 8 visits as it's my breakfast stop on way to Bay Area and back home. I loved this place BUT last Wednesday's customer service proved to me, that I'm not welcomed. On my final visit, I walked in and stood in line. I waited a few minutes for two women my age order. A employee my age saw the delay and asked if she could take my order from register to my left against the wall. I said ok, but hold on. I turned to my right and asked a customer in her late 70's if she wanted to order. She said no thank you and her two friends were ordering for her. I gave my order and had a minute or two conversation with that employee. As I waited for about fifteen minutes, standing in the lobby of entrance, I saw two different occasions of transients (one with blanket over head and body) enter, get hot tea and leave. I also saw another sitting in the corner. This is common on all of my prior visits but you'll soon read how I was treated quite different than transients. I had waited for about fifteen minutes, saw the cook place two sandwiches in the warmer unit which is about 3-4' behind register. There is an open area between that register and the larger main counter area. I saw a name next to one of the sandwiches so I stepped over to read the name. I did this because the two employees were busy taking an order from a customer. I stepped and looked into the glass reading the name and it wasn't mine. I suddenly hear someone shouting, "What are you doing, you can't be there, why are you there." I turn and explain I was looking to see if that was my name. The employee in front of the other raises her voice more and says, "That is off limits it's only for employees, you need to step back." She never listened to my short few words. The woman employee behind her looked absolutely scared. I was ordered to step back. I became concerned on how they felt so I took three steps to where I ordered my sandwich. The employee continued repeating I couldn't go over to that spot. Both glared at me. Made me feel uncomfortable. I tried to explain why I went to look but was interrupted. I stood there as they stared at me. I stepped outside. As I stood outside...I thought wow, I guess my being a clean cut 60 year old man, dressed nice with a Veteran cap on was intimidating. I waited a minute and re entered the lobby. I stood and waited about 2-3 minutes. I wasn't in a hurry as I'm retired from a different career but still work. The two employees just stared at me. Didn't ask to help me at all. Same ones who treated me like garbage. The cook came up and said sandwich. I walked up and was asked for a tag with my name. I said I wasn't provided one. She felt comfortable enough to give me my sandwich. I exited. I could feel the stare down. I went to my car and called to ask to speak to a manager. The young girl said she was a manager. I paused, and I said your not a manager are you. She said, no and HUNG up. Yup...lol. I called back and asked to speak to manager,...that employee said she was a lead. I requested to speak with a manager...she repeated I could speak with her, she was in charge. I said, I'll see you in a few minutes. I ate my sandwich in the car because it took twenty minutes mostly from their drama and I was hungry. I entered the cafe and an employee in her 50's looked very upset and shouted at me as soon as I entered. A tall young male employee was standing behind her, the woman employee who had yelled at me earlier was standing next to the register I had ordered from. Two other women employees were standing behind the main register. It looked like they all wanted to say a few things to me. The employee who said she was a lead asked what my complaint was. I began to explain, only by third word I was interrupted and asked, "Did you step behind this area." I said yes, then was shouted at, " You cannot go there, did you understand, what don't you understand." I began to speak, was interrupted again, she steps to the open area, spreads her arms away from body and shouts, " You can't go there, what don't you understand, repeats again. She slides side to side. I asked can I speak without being interrupted. She says yes, go ahead, I began speaking and was yelled at, "You can't go there, it's employees only." I quit trying to speak...there is a pause. I look at the employee who had yelled at me..she's now staring at the lead employee. I then say, this was my regular place and last time I was here, an employee said I could check on my sandwich because they were busy. The lead paused, looked up from her blank sheet of paper she was going to write on and shouted that I violated their policy. I stood there, looked at everyone and said I'll never be back as I exited. The lead employee yelled have a nice day.

Stopped here for breakfast before a day of hiking! Got a couple coffee, a Bronco burrito, and an Ocean Roll. The coffee had great flavor, and the burrito was delish and big enough to share!

    Classic BLT was delicious!

Super friendly service and our food was delicious. It was easy to order by phone and then, use the drive-thru to get our food.

I looked around for something similar, but less the cardamon and came across Cafe des Chutes. We visited at 9 am on a Sunday and it wasn't too crowded at all, with only a single person ahead. They have plenty of seating and I think most people decide to eat their treats in the cafe; we had to hit the trail though, so we got ours to go to eat while hiking. Mango Sticky Rice Honey Glazed Croissant ($6.25) - Woah, this is an exceptionally sticky pastry, so sticky it's actually a little cumbersome to eat since the glaze spreads on any surface it touches and becomes very difficult to remove. The glaze tastes just like fresh honey - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it were mostly honey. There's not much mango flavor until closer to the center, along with another flavor of something very fragrant almost flowery They sprinkle coconut flakes on top, giving a somewhat fruity flavor. The croissant itself is very good - great crust, nicely flaky and crisp with a great texture on the interior, chewy and airy. The lamination seems to be good based on a cursory inspection, but I didn't have a sharp bread knife on me for a clean cut as I usually do. The pastry is very sweet and the glaze covers up the flavor of the croissant entirely. (5/5) Oregon Roll ($6.25) - This base, on the other hand, is really buttery, combining the great lamination, crispy and flaky, with great flavor. There's a fantastic honeycomb texture on the inside combined with the perfect chewiness. They do add a marionberry swirl on the interior, which is pretty obviously included in terms of color, but can't really be tasted on top of the croissant butteriness. On top, they spread a spiced hazelnut glaze, sweet and nutty, almost like peanut butter in texture mixed with butter. Delicious pastry overall. (5/5) Savory Bread Pudding ($10) - This is a super dense and heavy (in weight) bread pudding baked in a muffin mold. They offer to heat it up and it's a really good idea to eat this warmed. We opted to get it cold since we weren't going to eat it for a couple of hours (for a picnic lunch) and it basically wasn't edible, with super dense, bitter and stale tasting bread, making it hard to even stick a fork into the top. We ended up waiting until we got to the hotel room to heat it up the next morning for breakfast, which made it much more palatable. There's some mushroom essence with tons of black pepper and a dense yet pleasingly chewy bread. Cheese is baked on top and there's a little vegetal bitterness from spinach. Not rating this since we ate it the next day. Overall I enjoyed my treats from Cafe des Chutes. I would visit again the next time I'm in Bend. Bathrooms - Tiny room near the front. The water heater takes up some of the space inside, so it's quite warm in the room

The music was tasteful and not too loud which helped cultivate the calm and pleasant ambiance. The pastries were delightful, so good in fact that I was unable to get a photo due to my inability to delay taking a bite as soon as we sat down. We had the ham and gruyère croissant and the plain croissant. The breakfast sandwich was great; the homemade English muffins were dense but not heavy, the bacon was perfectly thick and crispy, the egg was well done, and the pesto mayo tied it all together. The Latte was solid, I regret not trying the syrups which I found out were homemade after I had ordered, it seemed as though everyone who ordered after me got the cardamom syrup in their drinks. My girlfriend got the hemp milk latte, unsweetened. She is a matcha snob and was pleased with her order, which is a rarity for coffee forward places such as Thump. Stop at Thump if you're in Bend.

Watershed is my go to, close to home, love it, cozy place…read more I feel warmed and welcomed here. I'm excited to be here, every time I come. They pump out drinks like it's easy and second nature, but I know it's a skilled craft. No matter how busy they are, it's always speedy. The indoor seating looks like you would never get an open seat, but the little inside tables up close to the pickup window are never occupied long, and there always seems to be a bigger table of 4 open. The backyard is where it's at! Although don't get me wrong on the inside too, it'll grab you with old cozy mill house adhock, general craftsman vibes and leave you wanting to stay awhile, sit a spell and come again and again just to enjoy the vibe. It's super cramped inside at the order line, but people are courteous and make a way for you to get through. The center post kinda makes a dividing line that causes there to be an in, and an out line. So it's like it's much bigger really, and much more organized than it may at first seem. The bathroom can be a bit of a wait, in the mix of things, but the drinks and ambiance by the river are well worth it. The bathroom is clean, well maintained and cozy as well. It's well decorated. With curtains on the inner window, and bathroom spray. And multiple mirrors to chose from. I mention the bathroom because this is often a very neglected place in both cleanliness and decorum by many businesses, but not here. Step outside with your drink, or while you wait. And you'll be greeted with the best ambiance and river views you can find. Views of mirror pond, the old historic white steeple in the distance, the pretty houses and the calm of the pond. A view you probably noticed through the old pained windows when you came in, and moved through the light crowd to get to your seat, or the order window to the left. Plenty of room to find a seat at one of the many tables and chairs, and just generally have your own space. There are some picnic tables to choose from too. The drinks are superb, I always hear rave reviews from those I bring, or go with, as to their smoothies. Their coffee was always a fine escape of flavors and aromas in years past when I still drank coffee. Daily rotating roasts and globally sourced beans to choose from. I personally get the matcha here, and it just satisfies beyond measure. Filling the palate with a rich, creamy foam of the milk, without the "foam" present when you get down into the drink. It's like the top foam just never goes away. It's a palate pleaser, for sure!! I am amazed that they do an iced or hot oat milk matcha just as well as one, or the other. Each satisfies with that sweet oaty richness to soothe and fill the palate and the senses. In my book of matchas, this is the best matcha in Central Oregon!! Ps. it comes pre-sweetened, I used to get it as a shy scoop with cinnamon powder so it wasn't as sweet. But I grew into the sweetness and just get it standard now with cinnamon. I love that it's rich and not overpowering. It doesn't leave your mouth dry from the sweetness. The drinks aren't too hot when they come out of the window, so they won't burn you. They're baby bear just right. Come to this little haunt, and enjoy a stay and a drink. You won't regret it.

It was full up at the time, but we found a pair of seats open on their nice couch up against the northern wall, counterclockwise from the entrance to the right and back. I ordered a Matcha Late, it came in a To-Go Cup, with a pretty design on-top. I wasn't asked if I wanted it for here or not, so I was surprised at the to-go cup. I'm a Matcha lover, and the Matcha here comes unsweetened as the only option. OK, I like mine mostly un-sweet. They do a "roll your own syrup" here for the simple syrup (which I'm used to), unfortunately it wasn't on the counter and I had to wait several minutes for it, as my drink cooled down. This method, sadly means messing up the pretty design if you dig sipping through that. I do a nice under-stir on mine, so it's not super messed up, just disturbed a little. I'll add: The syrup bottle was clean, but leaky at the spigot seal and made a mess on the counter as it dripped both at the seal and out the tip as it should on the latter. Onward: I always order an Oat Milk Matcha, and this one was quite thin once you got through the foam. So the base milk isn't as quality and "oaty" as my favorite shops. The drinks menu is really well priced, very competitive. I didn't pay $6+ for my drink, like I often do. I was happy! The help wasn't super friendly, not like other coffee shops, but responded to questions and simple chit-chat when asked and engaged. They just weren't very chatty or "bright and cheery". I felt like they were removed from that part of their job. The guy on the other side of the counter at the drink line was cool though. I felt better about the place after interacting with him. He was really attentive and helpful. My friend ordered a Bánh mì and an Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sando. He was over the moon with both of them. I will say there's a lot of garlic in the Bánh mì, but it was delicious he said. I do love the selection of games and card games here they have. We played a game designed to help you get to know your friends and family better with deeper questions. Very inventive, I had never played these cards before and really loved them. Overall, I will come back. And I'll keep chatting with that guy and just get to know him better. Maybe he takes a little to warm up to new people. I'm cool with that. I think you'll find it homey here and be welcomed and enjoy yourself.
