Strawberry Bakery is a little hard to find amongst the clutter of Lancaster Ave. in Frazer, but it is definitely worth finding! Strawberry is located in a small strip center called "Frazer View" nearly across the Classic Diner. As authentic a French-style bakery as can be found in the US, Strawberry offers a delicious array of cakes, tartlets, cookies and breads. The croissants are incredible and can be had with an excellent cup of hardy French-roast coffee. The baguette is crusty, yet chewy like the ones you'd find in the best bakeries in France. The cakes and tarts are works of art and taste heavenly. Where else are you going to find a pear cake? Strawberry's homemade marshmallows are worth the trip alone. They come in different fruit flavors. Think that marshmallows are just for kids-think again. You haven't had true marshmallows until you've had one at the Strawberry bakery. I'd have given Strawberry Bakery 5 stars but they could do more to the decor to make it a bit more inviting. But the quality and taste of what they offer really does deserve the fifth star. read more

My sister and I took a baking class this past Sunday there and we ended up bringing a TON of baked goodies home. The classes are held in the back in their kitchen, where you gather around the large metal counters. Our class was fully booked, and it was a bit uncomfortable being so tightly packed around the tables. The chef that taught us new recipes is from France, and has a wonderfully fun attitude and demeanor. He was pleasant and kept us engaged throughout the class. We didn't realize that we wouldn't each be making our own pastries, rather everyone could offer to help with getting certain ingredients ready or cutting up apples. All of the pastries were made in bulk at once, rather than each individual making their own. There were a few things that I think should be changed: - While they gave us the ingredient list for each item that would be made during the class, but there were no instructions as how to actually make them. I took notes down the best I could, but you're paying too much attention to the class to get it all jotted down. - The class should either be smaller or have more space available for it - There should be more hands on experience for everyone, rather than a few people raising their hand to help with something - When showing us the recipe, it should be indicated which item we were making, because the chef kept jumping around back and forth between them and everyone would keep asking which product we were watching be made read more

Here's what I want from a baguette -- crusty, but not so tough that it cuts the inside of yer mouth when you bite into it; chewy soft on the inside, but with enough crevices to collect generous smears of aioli, pate, or other desired spreads; fluffy, light, flavourful and yeasty; a light press of the fingertips should yield a soft, crispy crunch sound. So you can imagine that, when we buy such baguettes from Strawberry Bakery, that they don't really have time to get stale. Same day or not at all, folks. If that wasn't already enough points for Strawberry Bakery, let's talk about their opera cake (also known as The Cake That Earns Serious Brownie Points in my house). Jean Pierre knows how to make a damned good opera cake -- layers of chocolate, cream, icing, all of them not too sweet, not too dense, not too heavy. Individual slices are deceptively small, but every bite is loaded with bliss. Macarons are occasionally for sale if you stop in on a lucky day. They've also got thin cookies, chocolates, and croissants in a few flavours -- note that the chocolate croissant does contain shredded coconut, sadface. I do agree with the decor thing -- it's a bit on the meh side, but as the bakery is to-go, shouldn't be too off-putting for the five minutes that you're drooling over the bakery cases anyway. On one of my last days working in Malvern, it was decided that a cupcake party would be thrown for me. Strawberry Bakery provided all the necessary cupcakes and utensils, and it was fantastic! I tried what seemed to be a double chocolate chip as well as a cheesecake, and both were absolutely phenomenal. Soft and velvety cheesecake goodness in the form of a cupcake? Yes sir! My 2 star review is for lack of common sense. First of let's start with taste testing , when someone says can I come do a taste test for cakes so I can choose which to get, one would presume u will taste multiple flavors , am I right ? Nope not at strawberry bakery, they gave one cake , that's it, so guess I have to choose a cake like this . Hmm. Second I got a 2 tier cake for birthday . And when I went to pick it up , only one side of cake was covered , the other side was wide open for all the wonderful germs and dust to get on it during my one hour car ride back home . When I asked can I have another box to cover it they refused and said they wouldn't recommend covering the whole thing since it will be ruined . Ok that's logical but shouldn't a bakery that makes cakes have boxes of all sizes to cover the cake . Hmm that's a thought I guess they never realized. I have gotten cakes from many places in different countries as well and all have given it to me fully covered . But that's not the mindset at strawberry bakery. Well finally I got a box from them and plastic wrap and my non engineering mind but common sense mind took charge got the whole cake covered for safe transport to my house without it being ruined. Yum! Stopped by before work to pick up some goodies for the office, so glad that I did. I bought 3 boxes is associated baked goods and they were a hit in the office! Both boxes I brought in were gone in under an hour while the 3rd box was left for my boyfriend. He has yet to anything but baked goods so I would take a star off for being too delicious and making him gain weight but it's my own fault. A coworker introduced me to this place back in 2012. We were working on an ambulance for the 6am-6pm shift and it was shaping out to be a rough day. My coworker recommended the brownie and cheese danish. She was absolutely correct. Both treats reminded me of how a family friend who used to own a bakery would make his desserts. They were absolutely delicious. Now almost 9 years later I still get the cheese danish and I also get the chocolate croissant. I bring them to my mom who is stuck in a nursing home due to MS. She constantly asks if they are from said family friend's bakery because that was her first job. Long story short, these pastries taste like childhood. I am not sure where the negative reviews come from because in 9 years I have never had one single issue. Bought a raspberry shortcake here for my mother's birthday and let me tell you, it was awful. They soaked the cake in something that tasted like nail polish remover. The cake was dry, the raspberries were ok, the icing and filling were tasteless. We also bought chocolate walnut cookies, they tasted ok but were super dry. This was my first time there and I won't be back. The place smelled wonderful when we walked in and my hopes were high that the food would be just as wonderful as the smell. Last week I hosted a bridal shower for my sister at the Strawberry Bakery. We made traditional and chocolate croissants, vegetable quiches, ice cream, carrot cupcakes and mini-chocolate cakes with ganache frosting. Everything was incredibly delicious. The owner/chef was extremely accommodating, fun to work with,as well as entertaining. Our guests were all so impressed with my choice of venue for a bridal shower, and my sister, being a "sweets" connoisseur, loved the experience, as well as and the treats made. I stopped in this little bake shop after waiting for a long time (and building up an appetite) at the DMV just up the road to get my PA license. Of course everything tastes better when you're starving to begin with, but I really don't think I'm exaggerating here when I say that this place is full of pretty and yummy treats! First, the little cheesecake, hand-dipped chocolate covered strawberries and chocolate croissant I had were all wonderful. Second, there's a very REAL french guy there making the treats... complete with the adorable accent. He was very welcoming, although I must say that he seems almost a bit TOO friendly... I'm guessing mostly to the ladies in short skirts?! since I felt him almost undressing me with his eyeballs... but besides that little bit of creepiness, I will definitely visit this little shop the next time I am in the area. I have been going to this bakery for a while, I must say they are one of the best French Bakery's in the region, but can work on customer service skills a bit. Staff is usually rude and they need to clean their finger nails. They also need to be told to handle food and serve them without touching them. We used to go here all the time and buy everything from croissants to cakes and loved everything. The issues we had came with the owner and customer service. My Mom had ordered a dozen cookies to be shipped to her sister as a present. When they arrive every single one was broken and my Mom was of course disappointed. My Mom went into the bakery to let them know what happened and it turned into an ugly experience where the owner yelled at her and kept asking what she wanted him to do. She was so flustered (she is 78) and he just shoved money back at her and it was very upsetting. She tried to handle directly and nicely and it was a shame because our entire big family has not been back since. Horrible bakery, don't be fooled. The French chef who owns this bakery only cares about making money; he could care less about the quality of his products, his customer's satisfaction, or the cleanliness of his kitchen. I live down the road from this bakery and came here to get my morning coffee on a regular basis for a few months, before I realized it's all a front. While I was sitting drinking my coffee and reading the paper, I would overhear the chef talking with his staff in the kitchen saying the most shocking things. He talks about his customers behind their back, he makes obscene comments about the women who come in, and he curses people who call in to place orders or who call to say they were not satisfied with an order, after being sugary sweet to them on the phone. He doesn't care if you are satisfied with your order after you've paid him, as long as he's got his money. The worst, however, is that his croissants and cakes are not fresh, they are frozen and then thawed. His website claims that he doesn't use preservatives, that's not the case; many of his products have preservatives and artificial flavors. The last two times I went in to get my morning coffee, there were flies buzzing around the tray of pastries, and one even landed on my croissant just as I was about to eat it! I don't want to imagine what other hygiene standards are overlooked in a kitchen that lets flies fly around freely. The worst incident occurred during my last visit to the bakery about a week ago. I purchased an eclair to have with my coffee and upon biting into it, there was a dead fly in the custard filling! I was able to spit out the bite, but I felt sick to my stomach for the rest of the day. After hearing how the chef treats customers who complain about products, I decided it wasn't worth confronting him about the incident, I will simply never go back. Given what I have experienced and overheard in this bakery, I feel obligated to alert other customers to the serious health risks of the bakery and the shockingly rude behavior of its owner. It's a shame, because the younger staff are polite and professional. They would do better to go out and open their own bakery, rather than put up with the owner's self-interested mismanagement and manipulation. Don't be fooled by the positive reviews. While some people may have been successfully duped by the appearance of the cakes and the chef's lie-through-your-teeth play-acting, many of the positive online reviews were written by the French chef himself. I had wedding cakes and strawberry cakes from here before that were fantastic. Sadly, I requested a chocolate chip pound cake last weekend for my birthday. It was beautifully decorated and icing was perfect (not too sweet); however, the cake itself was incredibly dry and crumbly. A friend of my son offered to order a 30 th birthday cake for my daughter In law and upon arrival was given the bakery's King Cake - a. Circular pastry with two paper crowns on the top. It looked like a joke, but tasted even worse. It was dry dry dry and you could not begin to tell what type of THIN filling was inside. Not one person thought it was any good. How could a So-called French bakery even begin to pass this off for a birthday? A famous Fr,ench recipe? The Strawberry Bakery is an amazing bakery with an even better owner - Jean Pierre! Everything in the store is delicious! My favorite is the almond flavored, "King's Cake" that they have in January. Each 'cake' has a porcelin figurine in it as the 'prize'. The chocolate is also a favorite for our family - far and away.
