It was really flavorful and you could tell it had been simmered for quite a while, and the wine flavor really complimented the whole dish so well without being overpowering. Both pastas were cooked perfectly al dente and honestly left me wanting more. The chef actually came out and brought us our pastas himself, which was such a kind and personal touch. You could tell he genuinely cared about the food and the experience he was giving us and little details like that made the whole meal feel even more special. We make this at home and thought ours was the best, but this one just blew us away. We ended with their mom's homemade lemon cake that includes a scoop of vanilla ice cream and dollop of whipped cream on top. It was light and refreshing. Our server (Joey) was excellent and very accommodating. He explained everything in detail and kept the beverages filled. We found out he is part of the family of this fine family business. He is very passionate about their restaurant and it shows. The white linen tablecloths and darker interior setting made for a nice feel and ambiance. I think this is our new favorite local Italian family owned restaurant and we will be frequenting here more often.

I came here on a Tuesday night at 7 PM for a pizza party. A pizza-lover myself, I was looking forward to pigging out on pizza. I guess my expectations were too high that by the end of the night, I was nowhere close to impressed. Our party was in a long, narrow private room to the right of the entrance. The room was brightly lit and had a good amount of sports decor hanging from the walls. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't supplement our party as well as it could have. The salad bar in the back of the restaurant was pretty miniscule in size. You were given a pretty small oval green plate, and there weren't that many salad fixings to choose from. The sneeze guard hanging above the salad bar was constantly swinging like a pendulum, which startled me several times as I was getting my small plate of salad. I almost thought the sneeze guard would decapitate me! The salad was just mediocre...nothing out of the ordinary. I might sound crazy, but I actually liked the appetizers better than the pizza! We had two kinds of groovy twists: one cheesy garlic, the other jalapeño. Pretty good, but not as good and flavorful as others that I've had in the past. I also had a habanero wing, which was supposed to be hot, but it wasn't anywhere close to the spiciness I was expecting. Pizza was in the range of subpar to average. I had slices of the Meat-e-or and the Classic Veggie Master Pizza. The first slice of each was decent, but every slice after that got cold and bland. To fully enjoy the pizza, you would have had to consume it within five minutes of being served. After my third slice (which was about as small as a Round Table Pizza slice), the pizza just started tasting like Domino's cardboard. The service has a lot of room for improvement. Not one employee I saw that night had a smile on his/her face, and I'm not sure they were appreciative of our business with them. When one of the servers who gave us our appetizers came by, he had a facial expression that seemed to indicate he would rather be mopping up bathroom floors at the nearby Pavilions instead...or at least be somewhere not named "Straw Hat Pizza." Everyone else seemed to enjoy the pizza and appetizers, but not much more than me. Overall, I would rate Straw Hat Pizza as somewhat less than mediocre at best. Not a place that I would recommend for a quality pizza party. They have locations all around California and one in upstate Nevada, but having had Round Table Pizza cater for me one time, I'd still go with the Last Honest Pizza without a doubt! read more

If I could, I'd give this place a 3.5. I really liked the pizza. It had a crispy texture which was beautiful. My only small criticism would be that the sauce could use a little more flavor, other than that, I loved it. The chicken hot hat was also very good. The hot hats are probably the way I'd go if I came here regularly to get a decently priced item that is still filling. Expect about $10-$13 for hot hats which is about what many people expect to pay for a decently sized lunch these days. The biggest prohibitive factor on the pizza side is price. Between one hot hat and a specialty pizza, you're paying $40 (pizza was a medium). I think that's a bit steep for the average joe out there. A medium 1 topping pizza is about $18-$19. I could see myself being more of a regular if specialty pizzas were $18 and a medium 1 topping was closer to $10. All in all, very good food, just at a steep cost. read more

My favourite pizza place in LA. Their california crusted pizza is to die for. A regular customer here, I absolutely love the roast beef hothat sandwich / meatball sandwiches. Not to forget the salad bar. Its the best shop to get pizza and the best make your own salad at the same place. Also serves beer and has wifi available. I would definitely recommend this pizza spot. The first time I had food from here was sometime back in 2012. The garlic bread was so flavorful and the pizza subs were stuffed. I'd had it several times since that first time and it never seemed to disappoint. Well fast forward to 2026 and something has changed. We had family in town, (the ones who introduced me to this place), and we decided to revisit an old favorite and made our way here. Maybe I should have been more worried when there was no one else in the restaurant besides the employees. We waited around 20-30 minutes for our food and no one else came in while we were there. I don't know what it was, but the food tasted nothing like I remember; both the pizza sub and garlic bread lacked major flavor and the bread seemed a bit hard. From what I can remember from the last time I had it, they've changed up the bread (which seems narrower now), the sauce (which seems like it packs less of a flavor punch) and the garlic seasoning (which seems a bit tame). The best thing we had from here was the fried zucchini. Everyone was so disappointed with the new flavors, that we had SO much of the garlic bread left and it only got eaten after I'd toasted, seasoned, and added cheese to it. Would I come back? Not sure. When I first arrived, there was a family sitting outside who I initially assumed were customers, but I later realized they appeared to be the owners. There was just a lot going on, with people going back and forth between sitting outside and going inside where the food was being prepared. Personally, that made me a little uncomfortable. I understand that it may be a family-owned business and everyone operates differently, but I would have preferred to see a little more separation between hanging out outside and preparing food. We ordered quite a bit: a pepperoni and jalapeño pizza, lasagna, buffalo wings, and the Mediterranean salad. The Mediterranean salad was actually the best thing we ordered. It tasted fresh and was probably the highlight of the meal. The garlic bread that came with the lasagna was also good. Unfortunately, the lasagna tasted like it may have been previously frozen, and overall, the rest of the food just didn't impress me. I also noticed that several of the prices on the menu appeared to have been changed by hand, with the old prices covered and new prices handwritten in. I completely understand that prices increase, but combined with everything else, it added to the overall disorganized feeling of the experience. Unfortunately, after eating the food, my stomach became extremely upset. I can't say whether it was the pizza, lasagna, wings, or something else entirely, so I'm not going to assume what caused it. I can only say that I felt fine beforehand and had a very upset stomach afterward, which obviously didn't help my overall impression of the experience. I really wanted to like this place, especially because it's so close to home, but unfortunately, it just wasn't for me. Between the atmosphere, the food, and how I felt afterward, I personally wouldn't return.

The manager & waitresses seemed nice. The pizzas came out 30 minutes late. We could only order 6 medium pizzas at a time, that wasn't enough for 57 people, so everyone was waiting on pizzas. Our Alfredo and meatball dishes did not get refilled. The food warmers eventually went out and were not tended to, so the food got cold. We feel that our party didn't get the attention it should have gotten. We do love frantones pizza but we will not be reserving the banquet room in the future.
