I had pretty high anxiety for my appointment today after some not so great hair experiences a few years ago. I had not been for a professional cut in about 3 years and had been performing my own hair chop shop at home. I was super nervous that I was going to be told I "needed" to cut 6" and be shamed for letting my hair get to where it is but instead I had the complete opposite experience. Not only was Blake super understanding of my anxiety, he also assured me that my hair was actually not in the dire condition I thought it was and I was able to walk out with only about 2" taken off. Georgia! Amazing! First visit and I have extremely damaged fine hair. She was completely honest with me and felt my hair needed a break from hot tools and time to grow back in. She ended up cutting just a bit on the sides and then styled my hair at NO CHARGE! She explained to me what I needed to do in order for my hair to grow back in, she showed me how to style it and products to use. Can't wait to come back for my trim in six weeks. Unprofessional, gossip, loud, no attention to customers I was new to the Lakeway area and went Strandz Salon because it was near by job. My appointment was with Blake; I came in for a haircut, my hair is long and very fine, but thick. He seemed knowledgeable enough and the haircut was good, but he pulled and yanked on my hair until I had a headache when I left. He was very rough and didn't seem to be interested in me or my haircut. While sitting in my chair, another lady was finishing up and left the salon. Before she even reached the parking lot, her stylist began talking about her and some of the issues that she had with the customer. Blake and the other stylist contributed to the conversation which made me feel real uncomfortable. I felt bad for the customer and wondered what they would say about me when I left. In my opinion, the stylist was being very unprofessional - if I knew who that customer was, I would have told her about the conversation. read more

I visited Blake. I was looking for ideas for a new, easy, no-hassle hairstyle. I got a blank stare - nothing offered. I got a very good haircut but that's it. He put a product in my hair but no comments on what he used was or how to style it. He is good at conversation. I asked how he got into hair styling and he spent the next 15 minutes talking about/convincing me how he wasn't gay. He is or isn't, I don't care. My hair stylist, King is an AMAZING artist. I love her high-level technique of the color and cut, also she is good at conversation. Never get bored. She listens to me, gives me some options (including within my budget) with her professional experience. I took my son to her, because his hair is messed up so bad. He did a cheap color and bleached by himself several times recently. His hair has multiple colors randomly which is hard to fix. Plus he hasn't got hair cut in a long time. I thought it would be hard work for her. But only 80min later, she fixed everything!! Everything is perfect!!!!! I think she can use the magic. I recently went to strandz salon and I will never return! I imagine most people want a salon experience that is relaxing and enjoyable. This place is quite the opposite. It's very loud with the hairstylists talking to each other from across the establishment about their personal lives, opinions, etc. At times yelling across the room as there were multiple hairdryers in operation. I could sense that other clients felt as I did. The experience was unpleasant and the staff was very annoying and unprofessional. read more

Like so many people I just moved to Texas earlier this year. Finding a hair stylist do to my really red hair has been like trying to score a golden ticket into a rainbow unicorn sanctuary- it just ain't happening. Since moving to Texas my reasonably ok hair has been bleached to within an inch of it's life, turned to mud and given more than a few wonky trims. In desperation I reached out to Strandz, based off of the good reviews (I am lookin' at you Yelp). This was kinda my last ditch effort to make my hair look like something that didn't come off a shipwrecked orangutan. I was seriously thinking how the heck I was gonna fit monthly trips to a hair salon in California into my annual budget..in other words, I was desperate. My appointment was with a no-nonsense Brit (Leslie) , who didn't pull any punches, took one look at my hair and proclaimed "ok, no bleach on you for at least 6 months!"- this chick knows her stuff. I have no idea how she did it but she got my hair to be a rich, shiny red and the best part is that is is fading, because face it, red hair fades faster than your last paycheck, fading and managing to still look rich and amazing. Yay Shamrae Jamerson ... You ROCK! I was referred to Shamrae after complimenting a girls hair at a bar. She went on and on about how great her hairstylist was, so I gave it a try! Drove 30 miles out to Lakeway, not knowing what I was getting myself into. I was surprised to see Strandz next to my favorite place to eat and drink Flores Mexican and lots of cute stores surrounding the salon. So, on a side note...It's a Great place to spend the day off! Shamrae was extremely sweet, knowledgeable and made me feel right at home. I'm not a huge talker... but we couldn't shut up :) It was a fun experience and she did such a great job on the cut and the color. She wouldn't let me leave until every hair was in place! Shamrea at Strandz is a rockstar! I didn't think I was ever going to find a hair stylist in Austin until I went to her. I have a short A-line that is really easy to mess up, but she nails the precision cut every time. I have never received so many compliments on my hair.
