My experience here was so welcoming! Kait and Kelsey the owners of the salon are so talented with what they do!!! I know I will always leave with more confidence! Kait and Kelsey have created such a fun, joy filled environment! I always know I'm in good hands. With that said if you're looking for a stylist COME HERE it's truly my top ten favorite place to be read more

Is Jen a genius?? I'm not sure yet, but possibly. I'll keep y'all posted. Great cut, great recommendations. She met me where I was with my actual routine. read more

Every part of this experience will keep me from returning. $200 of a "cut" and color is astronomical...even IF I got a cut. I asked for layers. That didn't happen. My scalp is burned and my dresser didn't even style my hair. I was the test subject for my family's new salon and it missed the mark in every single way. read more

I had balayage coloring by Sabrina and she did an amazing job! The coloring is perfectly done and she did exactly what we previously discussed. This is definitely the prettiest my hair color has ever been. Sabrina is very easy to talk to and super nice as well. The salon itself is very nice and charming. Additionally, I appreciate that she wore a mask without any hesitation since I mentioned I'm immune suppressed. I highly recommend Sabrina and Shear Headcase Hair Salon! read more

I came to Shear Headcase a few years ago when I first moved to Austin. I booked an appointment for a hair cut and highlights. I liked the hair cut, but when it came to the hair color, she put all of the highlight foils in my hair, but didn't let them set or give them time to develop. She immediately took me back to wash my hair, so naturally the color didn't develop and it didn't look like I even got my highlights done. Ive been coloring my hair since I was 14 and this was by far the strangest experience I've had. The stylist was nice, but maybe she was trying to end her day? read more

The day I stopped by the salon, only Sabrina was there. However, she was certainly the welcoming sort - friendly without being intrusive. My hair is not easy to work with - it is v. grey and v. straight. Worse, since Covid I had fallen into the nasty habit of chopping on it myself. Sabrina was game. As it was my first visit, a certain amount of razz-ma-tazz was in order. She anointed my hair with a number of different products, but explained what each one was for. In no way did she pressure me to purchase any extras. I liked that almost as much as the haircut - which at $75 was probably par for the course here lately. Bottom line: I liked the salon, I liked Sabrina, and I most certainly liked the haircut. I will be returning. read more

Curly hair! Kaitlyn cut my 12yo daughter's curly hair and made it amazing! I had no idea curly hair was so difficult to cut until I saw what a truly excellent cut could do. The best part is that Kaitlyn was patient with my daughter, really taking the time to teach my daughter how to care for her hair and bring out her curl. My daughter LOVES her hair now! Thank you Kaitlyn! read more

I went to Shear Headcase for the first time a few weeks ago. I took the stylist they assigned me over the phone and found everyone to be chatty and friendly while I was there. I told the stylist that I wanted long layers and face framing, and I was dubious of how she accomplished it while I was there, but I didn't complain because I've seen my hair come out well with a variety of different methods (I have tons of thick hair, so it's pretty hard to mess up). When I was on my way to the register, I asked if they had any shampoos or conditioners I should try. They only carried one line - Davines - which I hadn't seen or heard of before. The bottles were very small, so I got the larger size they had. I was shocked when she rung me up because the total for the tiny (8oz) shampoo and conditioner was $50 (plus another $50 for the haircut, so $100 total)! The stylist told me not to worry, the products were very good. I went home and in the days after my haircut, I reallized it wasn't a very good haircut at all. I had asked her not to frame my face with hair so short that I couldn't put it back in a pony tail, and the hair was falling out like bangs all over the place. Very annoying. The layering was mediocre, at best. A week later, I tried the shampoo I had purchased at Shear Headcase. When I put it in my hand, I immediately thought "this feels like water." I turned the bottle over and, sure enough, water was the number 1 ingredient. I had to use a ton of it to get my hair clean and decided to return the product because I was completely dissatisfied (I didn't even bother trying the conditioner). When I went back to the salon, the stylist running the register said they didn't accept returns. She asked if my stylist had let me know this and I told her no, she hadn't, or I would have bought the trial size. She went to get the owner. The owner proceeded to try and tell me how to use the shampoo. I informed her that I was using it correctly, but it wasn't getting my hair clean. She told me that they did not accept returns. I walked out without arguing about it, shocked that they would treat a new customer that way. Because the location was convenient to our home in Spicewood, TX, I was planning on going back (to a different stylist, obviously) and getting my hair cut 4 times a year there at $50 a cut, so $200 or so a year, and sending my husband, who goes at least 12 times a year, so another $400 or so a year. I couldn't believe she would refuse to refund my money or even give me a store credit for $50 seeing as how the loss of the liftetime value of a new customer should have mattered more to her. There are definitely businesses that can get by with providing poor customer service, but salons don't generally fall into that category. My advice would be to skip this salon and, if you do give it a try, definitely don't let them talk you into buying any of their over-priced, under-performing haircare products. Wonderful. Jennifer listened to what I wanted out of a haircut, and I left still looking like myself, only with much better hair. Past salons I've gone to have always done something uncharacteristic - even if they followed what I wanted in the actual cut, they would blow-dry it or style it in a way I would never do regularly. Jennifer, on the other hand, seemed to attune to what I was comfortable with. She likewise offered great tips on hair-care, and as someone who has never had any interest in looking up such things for myself, I was incredibly grateful for the tips. I'll also add that my mom has gone here, and loved it as well. And she is not one to be enthusiastic about many places, especially hair salons. But she has nothing but raves for Shear Headcase! read more

Jennifer's been my stylist for the past year. She's a great listener, skillful, personable and gives great hair tips. I've been to Capelli's and Kris Kirstopherson before settling down with Jennifer - no regrets. I always leave happy and satisfied. read more

I guess im the only guy on Yelp that has gotten a haircut at Shear Headcase Hair Salon. All I really needed a haircut, so I couldnt really take advantage of all the other great services that Shear Headcase Hair Salon offers. Although, I'll probably taking my girlfriend here, since my experience was so great. Ive been to a couple of local haircut places here in Austin and never been fully satisfied with the style. I had a style in mind and could never really explain it to the stylist, BUT at Shear Headcase Hair Salon with Danica - awesome btw- she figured out what I wanted exactly. She listened to my confusing, I'm sure, explanation of the style and walked me to and explained what it was that I wanted. all in all go here for that haircut youve been wanting but no one has delivered. read more

Krissy Dobson, one of the owners, does my hair and it always looks amazing! I've seen multiple stylists there, including Jennifer, the other owner, Ashton and Danica. They all do a fantastic job. I just got my hair done yesterday by Krissy, and the color is so lovely! It was exactly what I wanted, and it looks so rich and shiny. The haircut is seriously perfect too. I'm extremely picky when it comes to my haircuts, (emphasis on extremely) and Krissy always cuts and styles it for me the way I say, but she'll also let you know/recommend the amount that should be cut off due to split-ends and/or damage. However, she won't just start chopping away and make it shorter than what you want, which is something I've had done by other stylists and was not too happy about! Krissy is very thorough in checking all of your hair to make sure everything is even, which is something that not everyone does. I had at least four customers at my work today tell me how beautiful my hair is. I even had someone go on and on about my color being fabulous, and she had me write down the name of the salon (Shear Headcase) and the stylist who did it. (Krissy D.) I apparently need to keep their business cards on me! The salon itself is adorable, and the atmosphere is relaxing. All of the women there are down-to-earth and very nice. (Unlike other salons I've been to, unfortunately) If you're looking for a new salon, I highly recommend Shear Headcase. :) read more

Love my girl Hayley! She is top in making highlights look natural and lovely. Sweet and caring and a joy to go see to get my hair done

After a few attempts with different hairdressers there I found the right one for my type of hair style which is pretty short. Wish the prices were less, but it seems to be the going rate for this area. I feel there should be a different price for monthly upkeep for us shorties. read more

Since moving to Austin from Boston in mid 2008, I suffered through a miserable and costly struggle to find the salon best suited to my needs. I tried several salons, some costing over $500 for a cut and color. Only to return home, buy a package of color and achieve my desire. Hallelujah, no longer will I need to do this!!!!! April was amazing and I will assuredly be returning. Ladies, April can cut and color with the best of them. Red heads, naturally curly, long and short......she can handle it all, with precision and style. And a glass of wine always helps ;) Thanks Shear Headcase. Your prescription has cured me! read more

Both of the owners are very involved in their business, from their careful selection of the stylists they hire, the products they endorse, and on through to the chic decor and fun streaming music selections. Jennifer, one of the owners, is my primary stylist and she always does an awesome job with my haircuts and treatments. She is a perfectionist in all things, including my hair (a highly admirable trait in your hair stylist). She also excels in providing top notch customer service and an inviting, intimate salon experience. As another reviewer noted, she takes the time to walk you through the steps to styling and maintaining your hair, and provides you with useful tips catered to your lifestyle. Krissy does my hair on occasion and also does a fantastic job. read more

I don't think 5 stars is enough. The salon is gorgeous, the stylists very talented and the products they sell are just dreamy. In just a couple of visits, April corrected my color issues and my hair is in much better condition. The color they use is very low ammonia so it makes your hair feel great and doesn't give you a headache. I feel like it's "spa day" when I go over there. The only thing they need is someone to give you a mani/pedi while your hair is processing! Great all the way around! read more

I know good hair and recognize a good haircut after years of trials and errors. I've had the best in Vidal Sassoon in SF for past 14 years until relocating to Austin last year. . Needless to say, it's been very difficult to find a hairstylist who's as good as my old stylist. I went to shear headcase once because it's close to my house, and the "4" reviews on yelp seem pretty encouraging...... Boy I was wrong!! The lady who cut my hair was very nice, but frankly being nice is not enough when it comes to hair. I walked out the door doubting my cut, and it just looked worse and worse as the weeks went by!!! I will NOT recommend this salon to anyone based on my experince. read more

I had a couple of decent cuts at a reasonable price here, but then I asked for a color weave and had asked in advance what the price would be. I was in shock what I was charged and was highly disappointed in their method of coloring. It literally fried my hair & I had to go elsewhere to have it repaired. I was told $140 and was charged $245 + a tip (what was I thinking?!). I would not recommend them. read more

Danica is fantastic! This is the only salon I have been to that has given me the auburn red I want. Not browny auburn, but a bright vibrant red. I brought in a picture and got exactly what I wanted. The cut was a wavy shoulder length bob. They took me in on a Friday after work and I didn't feel hurried or rushed. The shampoo was absolutely yummy and I will have to buy it the next time I come in. My wash, color, and cut looked good three days after the visit and it pained me to wash such a beautiful 'do! Reds fade easily, but I am happy to report my color looks good after two weeks. The staff is laid back and cool. I was asked if I wanted something to drink while waiting for my cut. I got compliments on my hair the next day and I can't wait to try something new. I felt the price was fair for the quality of work and the amount of time she took. This is a cute cozy salon and I'll be back. read more

This place rocks. I come here regularly for color and highlights. I recently decided to go ahead and add layers to my long hair, and the results were FABULOUS. Last time I was here I decided to try something new... Eyelash Extensions! My lashes are gorgeous! I am absolutely addicted to them, my lashes look amazing and I don't even need mascara (and I am not a girl that typically goes anywhere without mascara). The atmosphere is very pleasant. The prices are reasonable, the employees are super nice. Danica is the best, she always goes above and beyond to make me happy. I am now a regular here! read more

I've been to Shear Headcase a couple times. Once to see Danica (who also does my sister's hair) and just recently, I got my hair done with Nicole. Nicole did EXACTLY what I asked for - keep as much length as possible, get rid of dead ends, and freshen up my layers/style. I was super please and she was dun to chat with! Danica is also FABULOUS! My sister has been seeing her for 4+ years now and won't see anyone else. I also appreciate that the salon sends occasional coupons for services and just recently I wanted to get in for a haircut ASAP and they accommodated me last minute. Definitely recommend this charming little salon in Bee Caves! read more

Shear Headcase is pretty far for me, but I was in the area and had been putting off getting my hair cut for about 6 months (I hadn't been able to find a stylist I liked in Austin and was afraid to go to just anyone), so I decided to just bite the bullet and drop in. I was pleasantly surprised! Danica is wonderful-- she completely put me at ease and did a great job minimizing the awkwardness of the bangs I'm growing out. I think I'll be coming in again next time I need a trim. :) read more

Usually a haircut is a compromise between patron and stylist, but I have never felt this way with Krissy (or Jen, who has also cut my hair). Krissy listens to my ideas, and in the end, I always trust she understands what I need. I always walk out happy, and feeling good. Lots of solid talent in this salon, and I'm still thrilled after 4 years. read more

Ashton was so kind and professional. She listened to what I wanted and created the best version of that.

I just left the salon and it was an amazing experience. I had a lot of anxiety before the appointment because I had chopped my own bangs, and it was a disaster. I was so worried of what the stylist would think, and I was worried she wouldn't be able to fix it. Danica (my stylist) not only fixed my bangs but styled my hair beautifully. She was so down to earth and funny and I would highly recommend her. A judgement free and fun appointment! read more

I have extremely difficult, thick, long eyebrows and have struggled in the past to find someone that can "tame" them. I went to Shear Headcase and met Jaimie. She is fabulous! She not only did a great job the first time around, but ensured me that if I allowed her to keeping working on them, they would in the end be more manageable. Boy was she right! I've been going there for over a year now and would never go any where else! read more

This review is for the curly-haired clientele: I always have a difficult time finding people that can do justice for my curly hair. I've moved several times so hence I've had to switch stylists frequently. My overall philosophy is that it's just hair, if it gets screwed up it will grow back, and therefore don't freak out. So, when I find someone that knows how to cut curly hair I get very excited. Ashton is the stylist I went to last and I love what she's done with my hair. I actually waited 3 weeks to write this review just in case the haircut 'grew out' funny and it only looked good the first week. :o) But, I'm thrilled to say it still looks great and she will now be my go-to stylist. Thank you Ashton!!! read more

Fabulous, cute little salon!!! I've been there several times now and have had a couple of stylists cut my hair, although it's usually Krissy. I have long hair and this was the first place to ever BLEND my layers!!! The difference was amazing! I've also had highlights done and most recently bangs and am always happy. For someone that does not know much about hair, I feel like I get a lesson every time I go. There's some real talant here and a great, fun environment! I want every Lady out there that hates her frizzy, out of control Texas hair to know, that I went back for my second Keratin treatment that the stylists here do & I love, love, love my hair!!!!
