Lira had the worst attitude of any person I have ever met in the service industry. My mother and I went to have our hair blown out and she criticized the length of my mom's hair. She even went as far as to comment about her gray hair. And then when my Mom said the updo wasn't what she wanted she threw a little fit that it was because she should have paid for her wash her hair. But her hair was clean and washed an hour earlier. The third Austin area installment...finally up in the Bee Cave/Lake Travis area! Yay! Conveniently located in the Hill Country Galleria in the strip behind Whole Foods and next t the radio station (you might miss it once). Most people are probably familiar with Blo salons and their concept (they are EVERYWHERE!; including Canada and the UK), so I won't provide a detailed blow by blow (snarkle)...here's the LD: No color, no cuts, wash and blowouts only. It's the staff specialty and they know what they're doing. Also, the fee is one flat rate - $40 - for any length/thickness of hair - and services are always pretty consistent. In my experience an average blowout ranges from $25-40; however, Blo does more than dry and run an iron through your hair. They have 7 fun "styles" to choose from (e.g., "Pillow Talk" [beachy waves], "High Society" [updos], "Go Fish" [very fun fish-tail braid])...something to suit everyone and for every occasion. My favorite is the kind of standard "Executive Sweet" - I love how they are able to get my wavy, frizzy, hair stick straight and it lasts for days! The stylists and other staff are all very friendly and helpful, which is icing. Gotta go to Blo! The lady was kind enough to say 'they were here first' but why on earth would the receptionist not have clearly seen in that very small entrance that we were there first? We are hard to miss. I just wanted to leave a friendly tip to the stylists here. I'm new to the area and I know a lot of salons I've been to are a little confused on how to style ethic hair. I'm from California and I never had a stylist ask if I permed my hair before. I've have been styled at Blow Dry bar and other location who have experience with mix raced hair. My hair is very easy to style and I usually get a blow out when time doesn't permit me to at home. My hair is naturally wavy and not curly but the stylist at this bar look at me like omg African American hair. Not every mixed race or African American hair need a perm. It's just hair and if you have a problem with styling hair that is not like yours then working as a hair stylist is not the right job for you. read more

I was always one to scoff at women who get their hair blown out for nothing special. Why pay an exorbitant amount of money for something you can easy do yourself, at home, in 20-30 minutes--- I thought. But I'm a big enough person to admit my mistakes to the Yelp world. Going to Blo has been almost life changing, not like in the literal sense, but certainly in the tresses sense. My hair has never looked better, I can get an actual style with curls, or waves, or straight (as opposed to my current home standard of straight-ish...) for $45, which works out to a $1 a minute. Most importantly, the style from blo lasts-- it lasts so long I kind of find myself staring intently at my hair wondering what's wrong with it, why aren't you a dirty, knitted mess yet at day 2 and day 3 (and I'm shamed to admit Day 4 because now I'm like screw blowing out my own hair!!). To add to the wonder, they must sculpt with unicorn dust and rainbows because despite getting CURLS in my hair which has never seen a curl it likes, the hair isn't stiff with gels and sprays and mousses (oh my!); but instead is soft, silky and shiny (Ohhhhhh Myyyyyy). It bounces when I walk with that little extra pep in the step because my locks are on point. Blo has a monthly membership for $70/75 where you get 2 blowouts per month and discounted BOs afterwards ($35 each). This is limited to your home location though. For those of us who want more flexibility on location, they also have a Blo Tab where you buy 7 BOs and get 8, which works out to ~$39 per service for flexibility. They also have a yearly special sale, which is coming up in a few weeks, where you buy 6 and get 8, which basically makes it cheaper for someone else to do my own hair-- that's my story and I'm sticking to it. So don't ditch your stylist, because Blo only does blowouts and hair treatments (and makeup), but do ditch the cluttered side of your sink and let someone else do it. read more

I've been to the other Austin area Blo locations and have always left feeling like my hair looked gorgeous. Both times I've been to the Hill Country Galleria location, I've been underwhelmed. The stylists are friendly enough, I just haven't been pleased with the finished styling of my hair. On both occasions, I felt the stylists didn't use the round brush long enough. They both rough dried my hair and did minimal round brush work. I can do that myself. I most likely won't return to this location going forward. read more

She put curls in my hair for a wedding I was going to later AND THEY STAYED IN ALL NIGHT! I think the only time my hair every kept a style other then straight was prom, and that took about 5 cans of aqua net. I was the girl in basic training always getting yelled at for my hair falling down. But someone she made my hair tamable, without making it sticky. I been to Blo's other Austin area locations before and have always been treated well and loved my hair. So since moving south, I decided to try the Hill Country Galleria location and will not be going back. Usually my experience at Blo is a mini escape - nice drink, super friendly, and I get pampered. I was barely greeted when I arrived, never offered a drink, and was treated rudely the whole time. My stylist decided she was too lazy to actually wash and blowdry my hair insisting that she could get the look I wanted without a wash. I told her that no one has ever had success with my hair without first washing and adding relaxing products to it. I got a snide "I deal with textured hair 24/7" and "the products don't do anything anyway." She continued to curl my hair and it looked halfway decent at the end, not what I wanted but I was ready to be done with her. I checked out (got charged for the full blowdry and everything) and drove straight home. In the 10 minutes it took to get home my hair lost all the curl and was getting frizzy (exactly what I said would happen without the blowdry). The stylist swore she was so good that even without product or blowdry her style would last the night, but obviously she was just too lazy to try. All I got that evening was a chance to throw away money. read more

Overall I was really disappointed in my experience getting my halo extensions fitted to my head and styled. Amanda was argumentative with me while trying to fit the halo to my head and I was really frustrated and disappointed with how she spoke to me and how she kept arguing with me about the fit. She struggled with fitting it properly because it kept loosening. So then I tried to understand how it fits and ties so I can help her so it felt secure on my head. Instead when it would loosen and we had it the proper fit I would mention it and she would just argue and say I thought you wanted it further up on your head. which is why we were fitting it exactly to where she was tying it.... not to fit it "loosely" so then it would have to sit further toward my hair line.... I finally just gave up and said it's fine because I was done going back and forth with her I was getting irritated with her attitude when she didn't seem to have much experience or know how to fit the halo well. She admitted she only tried it on one time for a moment when she first got trained only to know how it felt but never fit one to her own head to know how it is secure and she's never actually purchased or wore a halo before ever. Then while wearing a mask she used a lot of powder and hairspray and I couldn't breathe well already in the mask, it was getting in my mask and really bothering me and she said well it's natural, the products are natural so, and continued to use a lot of product, not caring that it was really bothering my breathing. Very bad experience and regret purchasing my extensions at this salon. read more
