What an amazing find! Literally the best bbq and sauces I can remember having. We tried the brisket and pork and they were scrumptious! We tried 3 of the sauces and each one was delish - couldn't decide which was best. I think c TX was my fave if I had to pick! Cowboy beans, greens and cornbread were top notch too. Amazing taste. friendly staff. Great flavor! I had the brisket, ribs, macaroni, green beans, and cornbread (out of this world). My wife had the wings and nachos. All of it was delicious. Was it the best brisket that I've ever had? No, but it's good. Did they have the best BBQ sauces I've ever had? No, but they were good. Was the service top notch? No, but it was acceptable. And that really is the feel you get in here. The place is good. Just not the greatest of all time. If you're in Richmond and you want to stop for some BBQ, go with it. But I wouldn't describe it as a destination if it's out of the way. The one place it shined, and the reason I'm going four stars above three, is with the sides. The baked beans and mac & cheese were phenomenal. And look, sides in my book are super important. But, sides ain't the draw. The draw is the meats and the BBQ, and this place is good. This place was very good!! So I tried the sampler plate and wow was it a great value for the price. I tried the brisket, pulled chicken, and jalapeño cheddar sausage. For sides I did the spicy beans, potato salad, and corn bread. The sausage was my favorite, it was just so juicy and the flavor was out this world. As for the brisket I didn't know I could ask for the fatty piece but it was good but if I did it again I'd try another piece. The pulled chicken was good and it was even better when I put some of the homemade spicy bbq sauce on it. The spicy beans were amazing full of flavor and the heat was perfect. The cornbread was literally delectable lol!! I love that they put corn in it and it was moist. The potato salad was a little not my style too much mustard for me. Service was great at the counter and the ambiance is very cute, nice and welcoming. Definitely would come back here again!! read more

Best BBQ in the Commonwealth! Pork, chicken, ribs, wings, sausage- all smoked daily in the parking lot for all to see. Very casual interior. It may not look like much, but the food says it all. A wonderful family run establishment that deserves our support. It's cafeteria style with them serving up your choices. It a lickety split process. Typically I am in and out in less than 5 minutes. Straight From Texas had really good BBQ. I got carry out and the lady that checked me out was very nice. I ordered the combo with brisket, ribs, pork, and turkey. When she took the lid off of the pork I saw smoked bologna under the same lid and immediately changed my order. I told her to forget the turkey and I would substitute the smoked bologna for that. I had the macaroni & cheese (very good) and the chuck wagon beans (mid) as my sides. They let you pick your sauce and give you the option of onions, pickles and jalapeño. I got some of the sweet and some of the spicy sauce with jalapeño and pickles. My son did the same except he got onions too and instead of the beans he got the tater salad, which he really liked. When I got back to his place with the food I found out she substituted my ribs for the bologna (only reason for no fifth star) but the food was so good it didn't bother me as much as it would have otherwise. The portion sizes were also good and if you enjoy bbq I definitely recommend. read more

A small place and not busy on this Friday night, which was surprising because the barbecue is solid. It's "Texas barbecue" so I went with the brisket. The cook asked if I minded it being mostly moist, which I definitely did not. It was not nearly as fatty as I expected, turning out to be quite delicious. At the table, I dug into the meal. A good portion of brisket which did need a tiny bit of sauce to bring out the flavor. With a big portion of excellent mac & cheese that was cheesy with firm noodles and a great flavor. Potato salad was good with firm potatoes and a tasty mix. This was a good meal and I enjoyed it muchly. My friend chose the pulled pork and pronounced it delicious. This family business has a hometown feel. Local high school sports team's posters are hanging on the walls. The people greet you with a smile like you are family when you walk in. I asked for a sampler plate of meats and I enjoyed every item. The brisket was tender with a good char on the outside. The chopped pork bbq was tender and tasty. Overall it was a good experience. I came later in the day for the Texas sampler which was probably a bad idea as the wings were on the cold side. I'm sure if I had got them fresh it would have been good. Same goes for the brisket, my friend and I both got that and it was a bit cold which affected the flavor. The pulled pork is good as well as the ribs, and I like the Mac and cheese. Wasn't a big fan of the coleslaw but that is a taste that goes from person to person. Baked beans were good as well, have yet to try their other sides they offer but will do it more towards the afternoon time when I think most of their food is piping hot and ready to go read more

We were visiting from out of town and Yelp led us to this taste of Texas in the middle of Kentucky. This BBQ spot was on point and did not disappoint. The staff was Longhorn friendly and super accommodating. We each had the brisket "loose"(that's what they call no bun). It was mouth watering, taste bud exhilarating meat that makes me wish I was there at this very moment. They have all the southern fixins...Cole slaw, baked beans, collard greens, green beans, etc. All of them, and I mean ALL of them, were like Grandma used to make. Delish. The food is OUTSTANDING! The brisket melts in your mouth and can be easily eaten by itself. Should you try the sauces (all made in house) they elevate and compliment the flavor rather than drown it out. We ordered brisket and pulled pork to go along with sides of Mac n chz, baked beans, and potato salad. Ordered over the phone and everyone was very courteous. Unfortunately they forgot our baked beans and even though it was 15 min til close they offered to bring the beans to my house and also included some cherry cobbler because of the mistake, so the service and hospitality is top notch. The BBQ was very good and had a good smoky flavor. I did not get to sample all the sauces but enjoyed the spicy sauce. Our sides were all very good. Stopped in on our way back to WV, after visiting a local dealership. It's a small place, rustic like, but their food does not disappoint! They didn't have many selections (they were closing early for a rehearsal dinner), but what we had was amazing!! I ordered the pulled pork with Mac n cheese and the hubs ordered beef brisket and baked beans. The baked beans had great flavor. I tasted a hint of burbon and there is a tiny kick of spice that hits you at the end. Everything was flavored well! They have spicy and sweet sauce to choose from! A couple of people took notice that we may be first timers and welcomed us on with all the details of the place. We grabbed the pepper/pepper bacon burger with Winks homemade mustard and Grippos. Washing it down with a cold beer made it all a winning combo! Some tips: If you are going, check their Facebook. They are open limited days/hours plus they aren't a huge operation so do take days off if it strikes their fancy. Go early and expect a wait. We showed up 5 minutes after opening and all stools were full and standing room only. Just get a beer and wait your turn.

We were told that we couldn't order off the regular menu until 7:00, and it was 4:00 when we got there. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt - on one hand, it's a special and they want to sell them, on the other, I don't want to sit around for three hours waiting to eat something. Today was Friday and I had free time, so I thought I would stop in. When I approached the door, I could see that they are open daytime hours, as well. But without the banner, I never ever would have noticed this place. Anyhow, I ordered Tom's Spicy Burger and a side of onion rings. Delicious burger but neither spicy nor a "Better Burger" -especially for the price. See other reviews for burger description. Kroger's "Private Selection" frozen burger patties taste better and the package of six patties is about the same price as Tom's Spicy. Still, it wasn't bad but it was definitely more pricey than spicy. The onion rings were delicious. I would strongly recommend them as I do prefer battered rather than breaded.They were perfectly fried, great temperature, and they were the highlight of the meal. The fried pickles appetizer was a total waste of $8. Always had deep-fried battered pickle chips at other places. Here? They take a dill pickle spear and slice it long-ways before battering the thin strips and frying. I truly thought they accidentally brought me fried string beans or something. The ONLY detectable flavor was the batter and the ranch dip with the faintest, barely existent hint of dill. I might drop in another time but after a nearly $30 bill for the three items and a drink just for myself, there are other places with a better value. Jackson's comes to mind and they know how to make fried pickles much better!
