What an amazing find! Literally the best bbq and sauces I can remember having. We tried the brisket and pork and they were scrumptious! We tried 3 of the sauces and each one was delish - couldn't decide which was best. I think c TX was my fave if I had to pick! Cowboy beans, greens and cornbread were top notch too. I literally cannot recommend this place enough! read more

Amazing taste. friendly staff. Great flavor! I had the brisket, ribs, macaroni, green beans, and cornbread (out of this world). My wife had the wings and nachos. All of it was delicious. And the tea was spot on, perfect sweetness. The whole staff was very friendly. The place was kept very clean. If you are in Kentucky, this is a great place to try. This place is a hidden gem in Richmond! If you haven't tried it... You definitely should! read more

Was it the best brisket that I've ever had? No, but it's good. Did they have the best BBQ sauces I've ever had? No, but they were good. Was the service top notch? No, but it was acceptable. And that really is the feel you get in here. The place is good. Just not the greatest of all time. If you're in Richmond and you want to stop for some BBQ, go with it. But I wouldn't describe it as a destination if it's out of the way. The one place it shined, and the reason I'm going four stars above three, is with the sides. The baked beans and mac & cheese were phenomenal. And look, sides in my book are super important. But, sides ain't the draw. The draw is the meats and the BBQ, and this place is good. It just ain't mind blown great. read more

This place was very good!! So I tried the sampler plate and wow was it a great value for the price. I tried the brisket, pulled chicken, and jalapeño cheddar sausage. For sides I did the spicy beans, potato salad, and corn bread. The sausage was my favorite, it was just so juicy and the flavor was out this world. As for the brisket I didn't know I could ask for the fatty piece but it was good but if I did it again I'd try another piece. The pulled chicken was good and it was even better when I put some of the homemade spicy bbq sauce on it. The spicy beans were amazing full of flavor and the heat was perfect. The cornbread was literally delectable lol!! I love that they put corn in it and it was moist. The potato salad was a little not my style too much mustard for me. Service was great at the counter and the ambiance is very cute, nice and welcoming. Definitely would come back here again!! read more

Best BBQ in the Commonwealth! Pork, chicken, ribs, wings, sausage- all smoked daily in the parking lot for all to see. Very casual interior. It may not look like much, but the food says it all. A wonderful family run establishment that deserves our support. It's cafeteria style with them serving up your choices. It a lickety split process. Typically I am in and out in less than 5 minutes. There really isn't a bad choice to be had! Don't miss the daily home made desserts that will rock your world! read more

A small place and not busy on this Friday night, which was surprising because the barbecue is solid. It's "Texas barbecue" so I went with the brisket. The cook asked if I minded it being mostly moist, which I definitely did not. It was not nearly as fatty as I expected, turning out to be quite delicious. At the table, I dug into the meal. A good portion of brisket which did need a tiny bit of sauce to bring out the flavor. With a big portion of excellent mac & cheese that was cheesy with firm noodles and a great flavor. Potato salad was good with firm potatoes and a tasty mix. This was a good meal and I enjoyed it muchly. My friend chose the pulled pork and pronounced it delicious. Straight From Texas had really good BBQ. I got carry out and the lady that checked me out was very nice. I ordered the combo with brisket, ribs, pork, and turkey. When she took the lid off of the pork I saw smoked bologna under the same lid and immediately changed my order. I told her to forget the turkey and I would substitute the smoked bologna for that. I had the macaroni & cheese (very good) and the chuck wagon beans (mid) as my sides. They let you pick your sauce and give you the option of onions, pickles and jalapeño. I got some of the sweet and some of the spicy sauce with jalapeño and pickles. My son did the same except he got onions too and instead of the beans he got the tater salad, which he really liked. When I got back to his place with the food I found out she substituted my ribs for the bologna (only reason for no fifth star) but the food was so good it didn't bother me as much as it would have otherwise. The portion sizes were also good and if you enjoy bbq I definitely recommend. read more

Overall it was a good experience. I came later in the day for the Texas sampler which was probably a bad idea as the wings were on the cold side. I'm sure if I had got them fresh it would have been good. Same goes for the brisket, my friend and I both got that and it was a bit cold which affected the flavor. The pulled pork is good as well as the ribs, and I like the Mac and cheese. Wasn't a big fan of the coleslaw but that is a taste that goes from person to person. Baked beans were good as well, have yet to try their other sides they offer but will do it more towards the afternoon time when I think most of their food is piping hot and ready to go read more

We were visiting from out of town and Yelp led us to this taste of Texas in the middle of Kentucky. This BBQ spot was on point and did not disappoint. The staff was Longhorn friendly and super accommodating. We each had the brisket "loose"(that's what they call no bun). It was mouth watering, taste bud exhilarating meat that makes me wish I was there at this very moment. They have all the southern fixins...Cole slaw, baked beans, collard greens, green beans, etc. All of them, and I mean ALL of them, were like Grandma used to make. Delish. If we're ever back in town I'll be returning. Only this time I'll be taking some to bring home too. read more

It's one reason I don't go out for breakfast ~ I can make a pretty good breakfast at home. No use paying someone to do something I can do. Walking up to what resembled a school cafeteria lunch line only furthered my doubts. And, seeing the sheer number of different options sitting out behind the glass window only furthered my suspicions. Look, I was wrong. The food here is really good. The service is super friendly and helpful. I was so overwhelmed by all the choices I just told the lady behind the glass counter to pick me something. She obliged with a kindness that made me think she knew me somehow. She chose the chicken and dumplings, beef stew, apples, and two different types of corn bread. Now, I thought initially, and she even admitted, that the chicken and dumplings/beef stew mix was a little unorthodox, but that they were both so good I had to try them. Both were fantastic. The apples were awesome. I liked both types of corn bread. When I got up to leave, she called me over to the counter and said that since it was my first time there, I'd get a free dessert. You all, I was too full to even try. The food here is both tasty and filling. I was in Richmond for a conference at Eastern Kentucky University. So it was really convenient to stop by. But I'd say that even if you're remotely close, it's worth a visit. Don't, as I did, judge a book by its cover.

A couple of people took notice that we may be first timers and welcomed us on with all the details of the place. We grabbed the pepper/pepper bacon burger with Winks homemade mustard and Grippos. Washing it down with a cold beer made it all a winning combo! Some tips: If you are going, check their Facebook. They are open limited days/hours plus they aren't a huge operation so do take days off if it strikes their fancy. Go early and expect a wait. We showed up 5 minutes after opening and all stools were full and standing room only. Just get a beer and wait your turn.

They close when supplies run out, and it always seems to be quickly after they open. Check Facebook! Best burger I've ever had! You do have to wait, but it's well worth it! The homemade mustard is a little sweet and tangy, and is excellent! It's so cheap for a burger and chips! Mr. Wink (maybe?) is super attentive and kind! He was always asking if anyone needed more of their beverage. He remembers seasoned visitors and keeps great rapport. I appreciated that the Ale-8 and bottled water were just a dollar! It's a little busy and it can get loud, but it's not too bad. Take a look at the stickers!

He just wanted to be chaperoned. Aside from that, good. Drinks are alright. My boyfriend is a wimp when it comes to alcohol, and maybe it's because of that, but their Long Island Iced Tea had a bite to it. If you're not sitting at the bar, you have to go up to it to order. There were a lot of people who didn't know that sitting around for a server looking to leave. The only thing that makes it awkward is that when it comes to drinks, it feels like you have to stay and wait for them to come back with the drink. With food, they'll bring it out to you. My main issue is that we came in on a Friday. I don't know if this is an every week thing, but for this week, it was a Fish Fry Friday. We were told that we couldn't order off the regular menu until 7:00, and it was 4:00 when we got there. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt - on one hand, it's a special and they want to sell them, on the other, I don't want to sit around for three hours waiting to eat something. It wasn't a huge issue, we got our drinks and went to Tacos el Paisa. It kind of sucks to sit around for so long not being able to eat. Food's decent, but not overwhelmingly amazing. It can get pretty loud in here, avoid Live Music Nights like the plague.

The pictures of other reviewers are accurate. Since this was date night I do not bring a phone. The app was the beer cheese and little bread nuggets. This was delicious. The nuggets were freshly done and the beer cheese had a good little kick to it. Highly recommend. We ordered the 14 in gangster this. It was good. There were plenty of toppings, cooked perfectly. The sauce there was light and a nice accent to everything. We devoured the entire thing. Now you have read this far and are asking why the ranking. The service. The "server" I felt like was being held against her will. She literally walked up to table and said ready to order? That was all nothing like have you been here before, how are you not even hello. We ordered the appetizer remember I said there was a kick to the beer cheese. Well you drink more when that happens. No offers at refills. She did not even come back to check on us only to bring food and to hurry us out after we were done. And half the place was empty. If I am eating in service is a big thing for me and this was not good. Will I return to Apollo for pizza. Yes most definitely but I will be taking it to go. Hope your dine in experience is better than mine was.

We do think either the taps were not labeled correctly or the bartender got my wife's beer order incorrect. She ordered a Kolsch and it tasted like a Cream Ale, which was also on tap. We had the Bumps & Beer Cheese, which is one of our go to appetizers here. It was great as usual. The Bumps were crunchy on the outside and a soft slightly chewy center. The Beer Cheese was spicy.

It's a little "hole in the wall" super basic but that's often a GOOD sign. It was. Staff very friendly, food DELICIOUS, it took a little wait for the food due to the freshly breaded and fried catfish. We had ribs, catfish and pulled pork. Coleslaw, and beans. Fantastic place to get delicious reasonably priced BBQ and catfish. Worth a quick exit from the hwy.

The only thing that will catch your attention when driving by is the roadside banner mentioning "Open Fridays from 4pm-8pm" -rather poorly designed sign because for years I thought this place was open ONLY Fridays 4-8pm. Today was Friday and I had free time, so I thought I would stop in. When I approached the door, I could see that they are open daytime hours, as well. But without the banner, I never ever would have noticed this place. Anyhow, I ordered Tom's Spicy Burger and a side of onion rings. Delicious burger but neither spicy nor a "Better Burger" -especially for the price. See other reviews for burger description. Kroger's "Private Selection" frozen burger patties taste better and the package of six patties is about the same price as Tom's Spicy. Still, it wasn't bad but it was definitely more pricey than spicy. The onion rings were delicious. I would strongly recommend them as I do prefer battered rather than breaded. They were perfectly fried, great temperature, and they were the highlight of the meal. The fried pickles appetizer was a total waste of $8. Always had deep-fried battered pickle chips at other places. Here? They take a dill pickle spear and slice it long-ways before battering the thin strips and frying. I truly thought they accidentally brought me fried string beans or something. The ONLY detectable flavor was the batter and the ranch dip with the faintest, barely existent hint of dill. I might drop in another time but after a nearly $30 bill for the three items and a drink just for myself, there are other places with a better value. Jackson's comes to mind and they know how to make fried pickles much better!
