1/16/26 I stopped by Bluegrass Tavern while in town for work and left feeling so full! I even ended up with leftovers. I ordered the meatloaf meal, which came with mashed potatoes and gravy, seasoned green beans, and a cornbread patty. Every bite was absolutely delicious. The portions were generous, the flavors were spot-on, and the price was incredibly affordable. What truly sets this place apart, though, is Donna, the owner. I had the pleasure of meeting her, and her heart for the community is unmatched. She shared that she offers food for anyone up to age 18 with no questions asked, provides a discount and dessert for first-time patrons, and offers 50% off for seniors. You can genuinely feel that this is a place rooted in kindness, care, and giving back. Bluegrass Tavern is more than just a restaurant, it's a wholesome, welcoming space that serves fantastic food while uplifting its community. If you're anywhere near the area, this spot is a must-visit. I'll absolutely be back next time I'm in town! read more

I Just called to ask if they are open due to it being Thanksgiving and being from out of town and trying to find some food for my kids before we hit the road again and before I could say anything this woman who answered says "we're closed" and hung up. 0/10 would not recommend. read more

Y'all, if you have not been to Bluegrass Kitchen in Berea, you are missing out! The staff was super friendly! The owner even came to our table to greet us. We had the Southern Comfort Burger and the Bluegrass Burger with Cole slaw and fries. The restaurant has a cozy, country feel. We sat at the window and looked out at beautiful Berea College. Had a couple of friends stop by my workplace today while traveling from Atlanta, and we needed somewhere close for lunch. So glad we ended up at Bluegrass Kitchen at 112 S Main St in Berea, KY! It was a first time for all of us, and this place did not disappoint. We had the chicken and dumplings, garden-fresh fried okra, collard greens, and fried cornbread--every bite was packed with flavor and felt like a true home-cooked meal. And the blackberry cobbler? Absolutely out of this world! We even got to meet the farmer who picked the berries, which was such a cool touch. Huge thanks to the friendly staff for making us feel right at home. My family and I came here after church on a Sunday and we all had the meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, and green beans. It was all fantastic home cooking. The green beans stood out from the rest, really great. If you get the mashed potatoes, make sure to get the gravy with it. I would not order a burger from here, there are other places that do a good burger. But very few places can do the hot plate home cooking meals this place can do. Service was friendly and accommodating, one of the owners came over to check on us mid-meal. Great and affordable option for Berea! read more

The only thing I don't understand about this place is why the line wasn't out the door! Every bite of food was amazing, and very affordable! We stopped in after a hike because the kids were starving, and the woman out front (I think the owner?) came right up and told us that kids eat free off the children's menu (choice of a burger, hot dog, or popcorn chicken). It's cafeteria-style - you grab a tray, place your order for a main and 2-3 sides, and get your own fountain drink. I had the meatloaf - I don't usually order meatloaf out because I'm partial to the way my mama used to make it, but I took a chance, and I'm so glad I did. It's the closest thing I've had to my mama's meatloaf since she developed dementia a few years ago. The turnip greens and green beans were perfectly seasoned, the coleslaw was fresh and delicious, and so was the cornbread. Make sure you have some cash for a tip - you can pay for your meal with a card, but tips are cash only. The food was so good, I went back and put another $5 in the tip jar before we left. read more

First time there. Arrived around 1:30 the food was warm except for the green beans which was hot. The mashed potatoes were instant that were mashed with a lot of butter, not my idea of homemade mashed potatoes. The meatloaf was hard around the edges and cool to eat. Way too much salt in everything I ordered. I could not eat much. Portions are great but way too much salt and barely warm. I may try again during the lunch hour to see if the food is hot and maybe cooked with less salt. We could have just went on a bad day. read more

Don't sleep on this little "meat and three" restaurant on Main Street! We had an early dinner and had the place to ourselves (although a few to-go orders did go out). My husband and I both had meatloaf, cornbread, mashed potatoes and gravy - he added green beans and I had fried okra. He said it was the best green beans he's EVER had in a restaurant! With fountain drinks, it was under $26. Since we were so full from dinner, we ordered the banana pudding to go and can't wait to try it! (With dessert and tips, about $40 for everything.) read more

This is a quiet little place tucked in between Boone Tavern and the craft stores on Main Street. The food is pure country cooking with a choice of meat and 2 or 3 sides or burgers and fries. The price is reasonable, the servings large and the staff gracious and kind. I saw a young man accidentally drop his take home box of leftovers. Not only did staff clean up the mess, they also gave him a complete new meal in a takeout box at no extra cost. read more

Cute diner in downtown Berea, Ky. This was our first time stopping by and I got the bluegrass burger with fries. The food was AMAZING, very homemade which is always a nice change of pace from all of the chains. The employees were all super sweet and made the whole place come together. The Food is Great, it is flavorful is Home Style seasoned served Hot or Cool which ever it should be. The service is friendly and just like being at home, they feed you well, and make sure you don't leave hungry. I have had their Mushroom and Swiss burger, Pulled Pork, Meatloaf and several sides. The food was great but the customer service lacks a lot to be desired for a Mom and Pop business! When you are a small business you cannot afford to be rude! I assume it was the Mother/Wife she was in blue tonight! She had bad vibes from the start impatient while we looked at the menu! Attitude because she assumed instead of asking if it was to go or there even though there was two Of us And we were ordering for three! We asked about the banana pudding and she said you have to call ahead if you want more than one serving! which was contradictory because we said that we have tried before to order but had not been successful! She said if they are busy they do not answer the phone so how can you order ahead! When we have been successful to get someone on the phone they have been very vague or we're out! We gave it another try but please work on your customer service if you don't it is going to bring you down because it will not be worth the hassle! Best Home Cookin' in Berea. My husband & I enjoyed our dinner tonight. He had the meatloaf, mashed taters with gravy, green beans, chili, & cornbread. I had the lasagna, garlic breadstick with salad, which was today's special. We shared a piece of caramel apple pie. We both eat off each other's plates & we both agreed that everything was warm & delicious. I am just going to say the meatloaf was better than Cracker Barrel's.
