I've had really good experience with their Food Truck & I was excited when they moved to the Boone Tavern Square. Very cool vibe upon entry. However, the lady at the counter was not welcoming or engaging. That was a little off-putting. She did offer any suggestions & seemed annoyed by my menus questions. I quickly adjusted & just ordered a salad. Salad was presented very basic (I'm over iceberg) but the lady that delivered was a lot more friendlier than the other. Decor is super swanky & I would come again for a meal (breakfast or lunch sandwich) or coffee with a colleague/friend. Nick at the counter is phenomenal, from my past encounters at his previous gig. I hope they take care of him! He has a unique way of making everyone he encounters feel special...maybe put him on the register instead of the least engaging staff.

Stopped by Bert's on a recent day trip to Berea Kentucky. Fun spot with great gourmet grilled cheese options. I went with the Blind Pig and my wife chose the Dizzy Dame. Both were very good choices. The Texas toast made a great bread and it was toasted perfectly. One star removed because only Pepsi products to drink and no fountain beverages. Worth a stop if in the area!

Not sure how to start this review. Firstly, I am baffled by the name of the business, which leaves…read moreone to assume there is bread to be had. Not the case. You have to pre-order, and she only makes a round or a loaf. And that is what I did. I ordered a round, expecting something like a "boule", a round loaf of crunchy bread. I pick up an anticipated yummy round of bread to make sandwiches that same day. Instead, I get a flat, round kind of bread. I accept without anything being said. (But knowing in my head this is completely wrong, but maybe she misunderstood what I wanted) I go to my car and decide at the last second, to go back in, told her what I thought I was getting, telling her and having to explain to a "baker" what a "boule" is. So, I took the bread home, showed my husband and he was in awe as to what we paid for (7.25!). I opened it up, she had wrapped the bread in a PLASTIC WRAP!!!!? What kind of baker wraps a fresh loaf of bread in PLASTIC? You're supposed to put in PAPER! ANYHOW, the bread was as IF it had been baked a day or two before. Did not smell like a good bread, but like a loaf of bread you would get at Walmart. I call her and tell her what the problem is she says to bring it back and she will return my money. Thank you, that was kind. But when I DO return it, her excuse was... "I guess it didn't rise enough as bread has its own mind"!!!! First of all, if you thought the bread did not rise correctly, WHY did you sell it to me? Secondly, don't make dumb remarks like that. If you knew the bread was not what it should have been, call me and tell me that you have to remake the loaf, I would have liked that better than to get an awful loaf of bread. As for the croissants, they should be crispy on the outside and soft and airy and pillowy on the inside and taste of butter. These are like rolls!! With a bit of butter baked in. Subpar. I have been to several bakeries overseas, and have a friend who owned a bakery. This is NOTHING compared to a true bakery. Sorry, not sorry....

We all chose turkey. It was a very flaky buttery croissant-A+. Saw pictures of Humboldt county and assumed she was from there. No actually, San Francisco. Husband tried to make small talk and asked about whether she's ever made sourdough bread. She became very agitated at his question and snappy- her angry San Fran roots came out. Did not fit the friendly, cheerful vibe of Berea.

Casual dining - some people were dressed up - I wasn't, but I didn't feel out of place. The Tenderloin meal was recommended, and I'm glad it was. Cooked perfectly. The portion was more than I needed, but I didn't leave hungry. The bill was a bit high, but the experience was great. I'm ok for paying a bit more for this quality. I will probably return when I'm in the area. I recommend this restaurant for an occasional great meal for a very special time. I've experienced many "high-end" restaurants- this one is in a league of its own. It is by far the very best in Kentucky.. There are other great restaurants with great food and nice atmospheres that I enjoy, but this one is special.

The entire restaurant is decorated with art and crafts devised by students who work at Berea College. For lunch, I had a delicious catfish Po Boy sandwich with broccoli raisin slaw. Dessert was warm bread pudding with Kentucky bourbon sauce. Each meal is accompanied by an individual serving of the Tavern's famous warm spoon bread (a kind of corn meal soufflé) with butter. Dinner was light (still full from lunch). Kale sausage soup, hot deviled eggs and, of course more spoon bread. All washed down with filtered water and southern sweet tea. Servers were attentive and helpful. There is a full bar and an amazing offering of fine Kentucky Bourbons. Boone Tavern is pet friendly and located on campus. Shopping and campus locations are walkable. Parking is free and conveniently located. Guests may work out at the college gym, stroll campus, or drive a short distance to hike in the Berea College forest (Pinnacles). Rooms are well appointed and furnished with furniture made by students. Highly recommend Boone Tavern Hotel and restaurant for a little getaway.

They sell products of the students' work, and I'm always struck by how underutilized Kentucky farm land seems to be relative to the food people actually eat here. The winter selection was modest, as one might expect, with greens, root vegetables, and mushrooms for sale, and a couple of hot lunch options and baked goods. Their chickpea dish was fine; nothing special but a decent lunch. Adding a cake pop was tasty; despite the semi-sweet chocolate flavor it was still definitely sweet. There was a lunch rush, and I imagine the locals fill the place up often.

As a matter of fact, just about everything that is sold in the store comes from local farms that are worked by students from Berea College. Of course, there were various types of fruits and vegetables, grains sold in bulk, some dairy (cheese and ice cream) and soaps and cleaners. Different types of sandwiches are sold daily (Tuesday -Saturday) and the store was having a plant sale on the day that I visited. I really like the concept of students working and learning a skill as they attend school to get a degree. I cant say enough good things about this store. Its was very clean, the workers were friendly. Some prices were reasonable and some (soaps and cleaners) were maybe a bit high. But higher prices are expexlcted when supply is low. Certainly, I would support this store in the future.

[TLDR] I'm not super into bagels so when my friends suggested that we go to Native Bagel, I wasn't sure if I'd be a fan. But their bagels are soooooo much better than anything you can get at the store. I mostly get their seasonal cream cheeses like the strawberry and pumpkin. I wish they had more cream cheese options. It does seem like they've been experimenting with different flavors and menu items recently. I like their coffee more than any other coffee shop in the area. I prefer my coffee on the sweeter side. I get the iced raspberry (or blackberry) white mocha. It's perfect! I like that I can order online. When you place an online order, they will set your order at the end of the bar near the door when it is done. The staff members are pretty nice. If you order at the counter, they will bring your food out to you. You have to throw away your trash when you are finished. The aesthetic is so pretty. I love the vibes. There are two single stall gender neutral restrooms located to the left of the order counter. They are decent size restrooms. My one gripe is about the size of the venue. It's small and a little crammed, especially since they put in the bar. At times, the place is hard to navigate as an able bodied person, so I'd imagine a disabled person with mobility issues or even someone with a stroller would have a harder time. There is a ramp to get into the main entrance of the building, however, the door is not automatic. I figure there's not much they can really do to solve the issue unless they expanded the building which I understand isn't quite feasible. I only bring this up because I love Native Bagel and I feel like it kinda does impair the experience a little bit. A person with a mobility aid would probably have as easier time navigating Just Love Coffee Cafe down the street than Native Bagel. If you go on Saturday morning it is often crowded! Be prepared to wait in line, and know that there may not be a free table to sit inside. I know this because my friend group and I went every week when we were enrolled at Berea College. There are a few tables outside by the parking lot. Also keep in mind that toward the end of the day they can start to run out of bagels. In the evening, they use the same venue for Nightjar, a bar and dine in restaurant.

The interior is really nice has a home like vibe to it and very cozy. There is a even a game section in the back corner, board games, books etc. They have an interesting take on waffles! The prices are more than affordable, a full size drink can sound a little costly but I would definitely say the flights for the lattes are definitely worth it. I fell in love with Coco Loco and my boyfriend is obsessed with all of them. Womelette, Nutella waffles, and breakfast sandwich were ‍ Refreshers weren't my favorite, not sure if maybe they just put too much syrup etc in it but even my son had a hard time swallowing watermelon crawl and riptide as they had been way too sweet. Strawberry Cloud was extremely refreshing still sweet but not too much just the perfect blend. The panini was delicious accompanied with chips and balsamic vinaigrette and the fact that I could bring my dog Butters was even better! They have a gorgeous patio on the exterior. Lastly, our morning experience was definitely more accommodating than our afternoon experience. Our refreshers came in itty bitty tiny cups not worth the money of roughly 9-10 with tax. The service itself did not compare to the morning service.
