If you're not looking for old-school cooking, keep scrolling to another location. Salad is iceberg lettuce, many menu items are breaded and/or fried, and there aren't many lo-cal options. But if you're OK with that, it's a good choice. This is an old-fashioned breakfast and lunch diner - omelets, burgers, salads, catfish, salmon patties, etc. - with matching ambience, right down to the hand-written, tear-off order pad. I withheld one star for the lack of more health-conscious options. I chose a grilled chicken sandwich that had a good-sized portion of chicken, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise (I declined pickles) on a basic hamburger bun. If you like solid small town restaurants with lots of local color and delicious food, you'll like the Red Rooster Cafe. I'm not into national chains or fake theme places. Red Rooster is the Real Thing. Ambiance was terrific. Funny signage. Locals teasing each other from table to table. Efficient service. I ordered 1/2 burger with fries and cole slaw. Fies were hot and crisp and plenty. The burger was something I will not forget. Done perfectly. A hand formed all meat patty. I've been talking about it as we travel the country. It has become the measuring stick for all future burgers. It's breakfast and lunch only. And they offer a buffet meal sometimes. Check first. read more

You know what you do before a 3 hour tattoo...? you eat something good! I was passing through Danville on my way to get a tattoo and realized i needed to make a stop for breakfast. this is a great 'pit stop place' it's nothing crazy special about it, but if you just like a nice local diner this is the place. the staff were friendly the décor was 'ole timey'. i didn't feel out of place. the plates were affordable and the coffee was fresh. They were hosting a weekly group on the hearing disabled in the front of the house. it was so cute you could tell this was *their* joint. The ladies who were working their all but knew exactly what they needed and when. Several political types pulled up as i was leaving and they knew exactly how to help them too. It was friendly and right in the middle of town. When i go back again I'll be sure to drop in for a spell. read more

Me and my boyfriend and his grandma had came in to be a seated everyone was nice and the lady seating us was awesome! The server came up and immediately had attitude, when his grandma went to order she goes "HONEY I NEED YOU TO STOP IM NOT READY FOR YOU YET" then proceeded to give us the hand and walk off. We were stunned in my whole time living here I have NEVER had this issue. She comes back to get the order and acts like nothing happened. I ordered and then my grandma ordered. She looked me dead in the face glared at me rolled her eyes and walked off again. I get sometimes people have stuff going on in their lives but you don't need to make other people miserable just because you are. read more

Visited for a late lunch. I found that they only had one server to serve approximately ten full tables. Naturally with a server spread that thin, there's no way to get good service. The Red Rooster Cafe truly has an Americana air to it. The pork chops tasted just like my grandmama made them. My favorite items were the green beans and pork chops! The price of dinner was low, and the level of service (and food quality) was very high. The Red Rooster and Harvey's Barbecue are easily my two favorite eateries in Danville. read more

The food is ok as food goes, nothing to rave about. The staff is cordial and efficient .The manager up there is too flirtatious to certain male patrons. When a couple come in to dine, it isn't necessary for the extra and excessive conversation and visits to the table. She has made it overtly obvious that she is in awe of or looking for a black man. The tall bald headed one that was occasionally coming in there is married and she needs to stay out his face and mine. She is boldly thirsty. Little mom-and-pop type place in Danville Kentucky. Not horrible but the food seems like it came out of the back of a delivery truck. For a mom-and-pop place you would think delicious homemade food, but I just didn't get that vibe from what I ordered. I came in for breakfast and ordered the "big breakfast special" with country fried steak, biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns or fried potatoes, two eggs, and a large Orange Juice. The food was delivered relatively quickly considering they had to deep fry the country fried steak. I never did get my large orange juice that I asked for, and the "biscuits and gravy" came as a single biscuit, not biscuits plural, (it said biscuits with an s) and then the waitress brought out butter and jelly too! So I had to make a decision with my "biscuits and gravy". Use it with jelly or with gravy. Simple thing to do is add another biscuit, but alas I'm not in charge. But anyway, I never saw the waitress again to get my orange juice or to even get a refill on the water that I was sure glad I had asked for when I first sat down (I would've been really thirsty!). So red rooster Café you're getting a two star. That's the way the cookie crumble sometimes. But with a little bit of effort you could easily get to a four star. The food wasn't horrible, but between the "stock flavor" and then the lackadaisical service staff you are downgraded to a two. read more

I miss Red Rooster! The service is always good, but now that it has been changed to AJ's, there have been changes, and not all for the better. I loved going in and getting the smoked sausage (no longer on the menu), and fried potatoes with breakfast, because they were cooked PERFECTLY! Just the right amount of crispiness! Now it seems like they are barely even cooked. Blah. The food is still decent, and the price is very reasonable, but it has been stepped down a notch or two. Also, they used to have free wifi, and I believe the last time we went, it was no longer available. Please, bring it back to it's former glory!! read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED AND SHOCKED!!!! So, today my daughter and I came in for some breakfast. Our waitress wasn't very talkative and that's fine. Our food was ok. We received 2 bills. I guess the waitress had assumed we wanted separate bills. When reviewing the bills, which I never really do but I did this time since they were separate bills. I notice I was charged $2.29 for something I couldn't read on my check. I asked the waitress what the charge was for. She then said it was for the ice tea in a rude manner. I said for 1 ice tea? She said yes, do you have a problem with the price? I said I guess, Its kind of a lot for a plain tea. She said well the prices are on the menu if you looked at it. I wasn't trying to get anything free. I just couldn't read the scribble on my check. I was just shocked. It wasn't a sweet tea...it was plain. They charge .99 cents for coffee. I was only just asking. She (owners daughter which was our waitress) proceeded to tell me that they are a family business and maybe I should go to Cracker Barrel and check out what they charge. I told her I'm not trying to be rude and she said, oh...I'm not either. (In a very sarcastic way) I feel she was so very rude and if that is her families business why would she want to act that way? I meant no disrespect and she was out of line. I was asking a simple question and she became defensive and abrasive. I will make sure I never return and neither will anyone I know. I will make sure I spread the word. I would think as a small business owner you would want to act in a professional manner. I guess not everyone cares. read more

Best Restaurant in Central Kentucky. Best green beans (with ham & onion) and fried cornbread you'll find anywhere. The fried fish is Awesome !!! Best country fried steak/ mashed potatoes topped with white pepper gravy you'll find anywhere. Lemon Icebox Pie is to die for. The food has been consistently great for over a year now. Once I made a suggestion to the owner or manager who was on duty that day that a specific food should be hotter. Within 2 minutes he brought out a sizzling hot, new plate of that food.
