ABOUT 1 hr South of Frankfort, KY, we visited Danville, which is a cute Historic Town for Kentucky. Before we headed back to Frankfort, we did get a chance to stop in Copper & Oak for a snack & bourbon. Our Bartender was John, he was quiet at first but then opened up and got friendlier. The shelves had a lot of choices from which to choose, so I ordered a Basil Hayden bourbon. Snacked on French fries, which were crispy outside, fluffy soft inside. Delicious!! I THINK the Owner, maybe he was the head Chef.... Not sure. But, he came out with a new dish they were testing. It was flounder on a bed of a crispy potato patty, swimming in a Beurre blanc sauce and topped with some tomato jam. OMG.... it was delicious!! What a great combination. A friend and I stopped in for lunch on Wednesday and sat at the bar. I had been here once before and I am glad I came back to give it another try. I had the Bacon Jam Burger and my friend had the Smokehouse Burger. Both of us had a side of fries. The food came out in about 10 minutes, which wasn't bad. It was a very nice experience overall. The food was excellent! It was my first time here and I had the Hot Honey Chicken. I want to get it again! It is delicious. I even ate every bite of the potatoes and the Brussels sprouts. They were delicious as well. I've tried this restaurant three times. And before you give me a hard time, this often one of the only places available and I always give at least a couple tries before I write it off. First time the steak was awful(see original review). Second time I tried the steak medallions and they were overcooked and chewy and flavorless. This time I thought, I can get a burger, that's easy. Copper & Oak has been on my list, and I finally had the opportunity to visit today. We arrived shortly after they opened so we were seated right away. We decided to start with the fries and aioli sauces. This was a huge plate of fries which were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, surrounded by a multitude of sauces. As a self-proclaimed "saucy girl," I loved it! This was a great appetizer. For our meals we both chose burgers and onion rings. The burgers were great and the meat was seasoned perfectly. The onion rings were good, too, but after all of those fries I wished I had gotten a side salad or vegetable. Overall, this was a great first visit. I would like to return to try out the Sunday brunch menu. If you are visiting downtown Danville, Copper & Oak is a great lunch or dinner spot. read more

In town for Parents weekend at Centre College, and booked Sunday Brunch here. I won't beat around the bush - excellent brunch, and excellent service. We started off with their French toast bake as an appetizer. So good! Included fresh blueberries, strawberries, and watermelon. My wife ordered the steak and eggs. Steak was cooked perfectly, and she said it was excellent. My daughter and I both got the eggs Benedict. Very good. 10/10 would do that again. And I give special praise for their potato cakes. Much better than I was expecting. This was the first time I had dined here. Nice hidden gem in downtown Danville (well, maybe not so hidden for the locals). Very cool building that has been remodeled in the downtown area. This was a spur of minute of the stop on Sunday afternoon as we were driving through. I saw the chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich and that helped make our decision to stop. When we arrived, we bypassed the host station and someone sat us. In review of the menu, they handed us, they handed us the dinner menu, and I asked if I could still get the sandwich and they obliged, but without bringing us the lunch menu. She ordered the black and blue salad. we got an explanation of all the beers even after I told her I knew about all the beers and I ordered a peanut butter stout on nitro. I use the restroom which was in the back and was very clean. On my way out I noticed that I felt like I was in a building to mimic the 1920s. When the food arrived, she really liked her black and blue salad. My chicken Cordon Bleu was not juicy and I think the ham or Canadian bacon was overcooked. The french fries were amazing! We were booked in the upstairs venue, which didn't affect Beau's (owner) busy downstairs. I sent the restaurant the attendants' gift bags (mardi gras beads, praline candy, fava bean for luck, and spicy seasoning) from LA as a present since I wasn't using them. Our first time in Kentucky, visiting friends who live outside Danville. My friend Lee wascraving fried chicken, so we had the Sunday specials. Two of us had fried chicken, one had pasta and one shrimp and grits. Every single entrée was absolutely fantastic. We live in Scottsdale, Arizona, and there are a ton of really amazing restaurants here, but this dinner was one of the best that we've had anywhere. Nate made a smoked old-fashioned at the table and it was not only delicious, but such a fun presentation! Can't say enough good things about this place and the people. Very good craft beer and bourbon selection, cute atmosphere, and good service. I had the Black and Bleu salad and my husband had the shrimp and grits. The fillet on the salad was great my only advice is ask them to go easy on the dressing oohh it was swimming. It was however a mild good flavored bleu cheese or the amount of dressing would have made it terrible. We have tried this restaurant several times because we want to like it as there are not many options in Danville. When we arrived we tried to each order a glass of wine. (Two of us.) The waiter said that they couldn't bring my husband a glass of Malbec because they weren't willing to open a bottle for just one glass. If he wanted to have Malbec, he would have to purchase the whole bottle. I got the shrimp cocktail and a salad for dinner. The shrimp cocktail was $15 and had three shrimp. They were out of a couple of things I wanted to order off the menu. It's not a good enough restaurant for the hefty price tag. I had heard good things about Copper & Oak, but had never been there. We decided to stop in for a quick lunch. Nice American style bistro. The atmosphere was dark and peaceful. The staff were courteous and friendly. We got mostly light fare, including salads. The salads were well thought out and tasty. In spite of fact that this was just after an ice and snowstorm, the greens were crisp and fresh. One of our party got a hamburger, and passed a bit of it around; it was excellent! The fries were crispy and not too salty. I hope to eat there again soon when I have time for a full meal. p.s. I'm ancient enough to remember the cafe at the pool hall in the same location. They served a chili dog that was a local legend. You could add a chili dog to the menu for old times sake and call it "the Pool Hall Special" or something. read more

The copper and oak burger was one of the most delicious burgers I've had in some time. Two medium locally farm and pasture raised beef patties cooked to perfection, no ketchup needed! First, don't be deceived by the menu on line that says lunch and dinner. If you are there for dinner they don't have the same menu and you are forced to get their expensive entrees. We made a reservation for an event at Copper and Oak and were asked to make the entire payment which was $750, not a deposit. We cancelled withing 24 hours and they refused to reimburse us for any portion of it and disclosed It was non-refundable. This was a large group and, although we all split the cost, we did not all know the unusual conditions. The only option we were given was that if someone else rented the space for the exact date, they would reimburse us. Of course we have no way of knowing if it was rented that same date, and were told it was not rented. We lost the entire amount. Would not do business with them again. read more

I'm not one to post about issues at restaurants but....today is a new day. We had a reservation at 6 pm for 4 at Copper & Oak. When we arrived - we were informed we had ONE HOUR to order and dine due to it being NYE. This timeframe was not conveyed to my husband when he MADE the reservation. If it had been shared with him we would have chosen another restaurant. But here's the most absurd part - if we'd been a party of SIX we would been ALLOWED to enjoy a leisurely dinner. The waitress was phenomenal. The atmosphere is phenomenal. The last three times we've come in yesterday was $80 plus a good tip. The last time we went was close to 200 and some dollars awesome service again. Getting worse and worse and worse. Yesterday's burgers were so dry. I could hardly swallow it. I was supposed to fly out yesterday and coming all the way back from the airport in Lexington. I was starving when my husband went in to tell the manager about our situation, he just brushed it off or food's never changed while your burgers yesterday made McDonald's look like gourmet you give me pickles from the day before no pickles come out cold that it just been cooked fried pickles no. I would expect that you could consider yourself a high-end restaurant then start getting cooks that know how to cook everything that came out. Yesterday was either burnt greasy or dry. There was no bourbon sauce on the burger. I ate it was ridiculous the size of the bun it did not have the quality of the burgers I've had in there before so please don't insult or intelligence and act like where the rude people spending good hard earned money and your restaurant supposed to be closed yesterday but you were open obviously because of the weather and not getting business well, at least try to serve the people that went through the snow and ice where you didn't even shovel to get to your door show some consideration shame on you all!! and as you get older in life, you don't put up with stupid and to get a burger so dry and a bun smaller than one you would get for a one year-old child to eat. It was not your burgers we've had your burgers we've had friends in your restaurant something's wrong get good cooks and get a better attitude when you're being told your food is not good no menu change.
