Our family has been visiting Storyteller Café annually since 2022, and this year will be our fourth time celebrating both our son Vaden and our niece Luna here. Every visit has been memorable. The brunch is always delicious, the atmosphere is lively, and meeting the characters is the highlight for the kids. What makes this place truly special is watching our children grow through each visit. They went from being tiny babies who were nervous and unsure around the characters to slowly warming up, smiling, waving, and finally choosing their favorite ones. We had breakfast at Storytellers Cafe during our stay at Disney's Grand Californian, and while the breakfast itself was wonderful, our experience started off on a disappointing note. My sister and I were waiting to be seated. She was standing in line while I was sitting nearby waiting for the text notification that our table was ready. When I received the text, I walked up to the podium and let Fabian (San Diego, Ca) know that we had received our notification. Before I could even explain that my sister was already standing in line and that we were together, he rather rudely told me that everyone standing in line had received a text and instructed me to go to the back of the line. I tried to explain that my sister was already in line and that we were together, but I wasn't really given the opportunity to finish explaining. I didn't want to create a confrontation, so I simply went to the back of the line with my sister. I want to be clear that everything after that was fantastic. The characters were wonderful, our servers were attentive, and the breakfast was enjoyable. We had a great time once we were seated. But that initial interaction really stayed with me. At a place like Disney, where so much of the experience is built around feeling welcomed and taken care of, the first interaction matters. I don't expect anyone to be perfect, but I do expect to be treated respectfully and given a chance to explain a situation before being dismissed. I'm sharing this because I would hate for another guest, especially someone who may already be confused about the check-in/seating process, to walk away feeling the same way I did. The dining experience itself was wonderful, but unfortunately, our first impression left a bad taste in my mouth. Worst experience. We paid quite a bit to have breakfast with the characters and be able to take pictures, and unfortunately, Minnie Mouse was extremely busy today. I completely understand that things can get hectic, but what really disappointed me was the way some of the staff handled it. I spoke to one of the staff members about trying to get a picture, and when I turned around, they were all laughing. That honestly made the experience even more upsetting and uncomfortable. The waitress was the only one who was genuinely trying to help us and make sure we were able to get a picture, and I truly appreciate her for that. I understand busy days happen, but when you're paying so much for an experience like this, you expect a little more kindness, patience, and customer service. read more

I originally planned to have breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen but last minute we found a reservation here and switched it immediately. Storytellers Cafe felt more cozy and less loud ( at least that's what we noticed on the videos we watched) and it that was that way when we walked in. Our reservation was for 7:20 a.m., perfect timing because it wasn't too crowded. Our waiter cane right away to our table and help is out with the drinks and coffee. Then we headed out to the buffet and the selection was large. The food was fantastic including omelette station, chilaquiles, hash browns, Mickey shaped waffles, sweets, quiche, fresh fruit and so much more. As a character dining restaurant, you get up close with Mickey and Friends. It was so adorable, they spent a good amount of time with us at our table and came back several times. They even do a cute dance around the restaurant. This was the breakfast experience and it was phenomenal, the place is so cozy and cute. I loved it. I've dined here a few times, mainly for the brunch buffet to celebrate an occasion or a birthday. My most recent visit was for a family birthday, and we had a party of fifteen, which was split between two nearby tables. Pros - The characters coming to your table and fun interactions. - Staff was kind and attentive. - Selection of buffet items and good turnover of most items to stay fresh - The carving station. The tri-tip roast was great when I went. - Magic Key and DVC discount - The decor felt cozy, with a rustic vibe, wood accents, and nature themes. - The little rolls of butter and the thick-cut bacon - Custom omelet station - Smoked salmon was a hit with our party - The bread pudding was the best dessert Cons - The price, but what do you expect with a Disney experience? - The noise level. Usually we are Plaza Inn loyalists, but we decided to try something else this time, and I am so happy we did. We picked a later breakfast to be able to get brunch at the breakfast price. Brunch was already available upon arrival. Great selection and got to try a little of everything. The salads were a favorite for me. Our server kept the Diet Coke flowing too. 4 stars only because there were no buttons on our way in provided to us (though I did see them on the way out), and Pluto never made it to our table. read more

This review is difficult to write. I love basically everything about Storytellers Cafe...except the chicken that is not listed as part of the kale and quinoa salad. What a drag to discover cubes of it hidden amidst the Parmesan when it seemed like a safe vegetarian option. Nothing on the buffet placard suggested meat and fortunately I determined it was meat just before ingesting any (thanks to the help of my omnivorous partner). The only minor upside is that the salad isn't heavily dressed or mixed, so I didn't feel like the other ingredients were contaminated; I didn't feel violated in eating, only in spirit. I can't in good faith give the restaurant a strong rating based on this oversight and the cost (exorbitant even by Disney standards), though I'll still note the composition of the salad is excellent (cheese, raisins and kale working in perfect harmony--ironically, the chicken seems extraneous) and the roasted vegetables are delightful--the broccoli is especially well done. Reservations are an absolute must, but worthwhile for the beautiful dining room and collective joy of the patrons. The buffet does cater to a wide variety of tastes, but clearly the inadequate disclosure of ingredients makes it lose a star. read more

So...needless to say, we have dined at several spots around Disneyland and done other character dinners (while the magic is still vibrant in our littles) and our experience at Storytellers Cafe was the best!!! All the characters came around multiple times and our children's eyes lit up each time. Everyone here does an incredible job of making sure diners are well fed, well entertained, and leave with the magical experience Disney boasts about. The food is fantastic! They have everything including charcuterie, salads of all kinds, specialty meats, fancy fish, chicken strips, fries, lobster ravioli, pizzas, perfectly ripened fruits and pretty much everything in between. They also have a vast array of little desserts that appeal to every sweet palate. You will leave with full tummies, so walk slowly around the parks afterwards to digest The inside of the restaurant is vibrant and fun just like all of Disney, and the tables are comfortably spread out for character interaction and hefty plates of food! The only reason I came here was for the character interaction and wow were they disorganized!! I have been to a bunch in WDW but none in Cali so I expected that they would have the same kind of vibe. Well turns out they are supposed, our server kept saying "oh they missed this section, let me get them" The whole point of spending the money is to get the experience not to watch kids see them walk by and ask why they aren't coming over. We had an amazing character dining experience here! The characters made frequent rounds to each table, giving guests plenty of opportunities for interactions, photos, and memorable moments. The buffet offered a great variety of delicious options, and the service was friendly, attentive, and efficient throughout our visit. We've also dined at Goofy's Kitchen in the past and if I had to choose between the two, I would pick this character dining experience. First, you get to see Mickey Mouse here (although Goofy is not part of the lineup). Second, the characters seemed much more interactive, engaging, and personable with the children. You're never too old for Disney, no matter what anyone says. And if they do... they're probably miserable and you should honestly feel bad for them. Reservations are highly encouraged and the best part is you don't even need park tickets since it's located inside the Grand Californian Hotel. We went for brunch and they had the standard all-you-can-eat spread with a salad bar, fruit bar, and dessert station. Some standouts for me were the Mickey waffles, lox salmon, heirloom salad, tri-tip and believe it or not, the hot chocolate!!! The food quality and variety honestly surprised me in the best way. What really made the experience magical was the character interactions. Every character came directly to our table, took their time taking photos and made the experience feel so personal and memorable. At around $60 per person, it actually felt very worth it considering Disney pricing and the overall experience. They are attentive and friendly. Now the food..../the food is just ok and in my opinion a bit overpriced for the selection and quality. I think it's more for the character experience. Now the food isn't horrible. I just can't justify the price. It's a buffet style type of place. It's $70/person. This was my first time at the Disney Grand Californian Hotel and/or Storytellers' Cafe, and it was very nice... and grand for sure. I'm annoyed with myself because I completely forgot to take pictures of the beautiful buffet spread. I took a picture of the food on my plate, but it hardly represented all the different foods that were actually offered. Because it was a special birthday celebration for my 5 year old grandson, my daughter had the restaurant bake a chocolate mousse birthday cake in the shape of Mickey ears... so cute... and VERY rich and delicious. The main reason we chose the brunch at Storytellers Cafe is because of the character interactions. In actuality, we only got to see a few of the Disney characters... Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Chip and Dale. That was it. Maybe that's as good as it gets, but I was a little disappointed there weren't more characters to see. I'm also not sure if the other known places for dining with character meet and greets is any better at the Plaza Inn in Disneyland or Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel. I'd like to find out. I know my daughter vascilated between all of these places as to where the best opportunities would be. We still don't know as this was the only place we tried, so we have no point of reference. I gave this place 3 stars because the character interactions were great. The characters would interact with everyone at the table, young and old. My youngest son has non-verbal autism and the characters were so kind and inclusive. The hostess working there Saturday evening was so rude. I checked-in with my name and number of guests. She was annoyed that I had 4 guests when the reservation said 3 guests. But, every table sits at least 4 guest?!?! So, why you mad girl???? I apologized and said will that affect our reservation??? She said."No." Then why are mad, I thought to myself. Second, I requested wheel chair accommodations on my online reservation because my son is in an adaptive stroller due to being disabled. I asked the hostess about this accommodation. She said well is he going to eat in his stroller or not. I told her if I can have a chair and if he gets overstimulated, I'll put him in the adaptive stroller to remove him if he has any interruptive behaviors. She said Ok. She then had us sit down at the waiting area for us to be seated and we would get a notification via text when our table was ready. Literally, two minutes later, I get the text notification to go to the hostess area for our table. We were sitting 5 feet away from the same rude hostess. I go next to the hostess, waited till she done helping a guest and told her I got the text notification, she told me I needed to wait in line. Girl, there was no line??? Then she walked away. BTW they didn't let us have a seat for my disabled son, so he ate in his adaptive stroller. My kids didn't like the food. I think there should there should be more kid friendly options. We had quite the experience at Storytellers Cafe. We were celebrating our daughter's birthday and mine. She had suggested this option as she knew that both granddaughters would enjoy it even more than we would. The food is mostly good. There were a few tiny misses as far as flavor expectations versus what the items actually tasted like. On the other hand, I got to enjoy the most delicious fresh blackberries I've ever had! The lox were also really good, and I allowed myself a small bit of the flavored cream cheese (not supposed to have cow's milk dairy). Loved the scrambled eggs, which were really fluffy and tasty. I'm not a big eater, but I was able to taste lots of yummy items. Service is serve-yourself from the buffet, with a table server to clear plates as you go back and forth to the buffet line. Ours was nice enough, but he didn't impress our daughter, who was paying for her group of five, while Dear Hubby and I paid our share for the two of us. Their French macarons for dessert were also amazing. Better than expected there! Sweet Granddaughter (age 6) had great fun asking for / receiving signatures from the roaming characters - Minnie & Mickey, Goofy, and Chip & Dale. My boyfriend and I are pretty awkward people, but I've always been curious about character dining and decided to check it off my Disney bucket list and we had a great time! We had a breakfast reservation at 10:30, which was really nice because we were able to catch the brunch menu for the breakfast price. You are able to start checking in 20 minutes before your reservation. We started check in 10 minutes before and got seated in about 5 minutes. The service here was really great! All the staff members were super friendly, helpful and attentive the whole time. This character dining experience is a buffet style, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food! My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the tri-tip, and I looooved the Mickey Waffles and Bread Pudding. They had the typical breakfast fare and a good handful of special dishes. There were 5 characters making their rounds in the restaurant, but don't bombard you if you wanted to eat and enjoy your meal like my boyfriend. The characters do a great job with interactions, and I loved being able to take photos with them. Definitely a great experience and would love to come again in the future! read more

We had a 12:50 PM reservation but didn't get seated until around 1:35 PM. Once seated, the buffet line was already quite long. Our server, Kanokwan, seemed to always be in a rush and was difficult to find when we needed assistance. About 25 minutes into our first plate, we were told that the buffet would close at 2:00 PM. After several guests appeared to complain, the closing time was changed to 2:15 PM. Even then, we felt very rushed, especially since we had added the birthday cake package to celebrate our 3-year-old's birthday. We were hoping to have a more relaxed and special experience, including singing Happy Birthday. The food itself was okay, but the service was the biggest disappointment. Compared with the other waitstaff serving nearby tables, Kanokwan seemed irritated and rushed whenever we tried to order drinks or ask for assistance. My non-alcoholic cocktail didn't arrive until after 2:00 PM, and she also didn't seem very enthusiastic when it was time to sing Happy Birthday to our son. We visit Disney frequently and have had many great experiences, so unfortunately, this visit was quite disappointing. We were lucky to get a reservation on a Sunday because we booked well in advance, which is hugely recommended! From the moment we entered, the energy in here is incredible. Candisse greeted us, wished us happy birthday, and even made a birthday button for my triplet sister who wasn't joining us that day. It's such a small touch but it made us laugh and my sister who couldn't join us really appreciated it. The buffet is actually super solid. Like, I was expecting hotel breakfast vibes but the eggs were fluffy and the Mickey waffles were overflowing. There was no scrimping here. They also have much more than just breakfast, including a few salads, a carving station, teriyaki chicken, and Mac and cheese. There's also a pretty extensive dessert and fruit station. We also had a great time interacting with the characters. It's a little awkward as an adult sometimes knowing how to interact but they were so funny and Mickey had us cracking up with his reactions. We LOVED our time at Storyteller's Cafe! We went for "The Christmas Carol" themed dinner and had the best time. It really was the highlight of our holiday season! Food- 10/10. The food was delicious. I especially loved the salmon, salads, and desserts. It's buffet style so you could get as much as you wanted. They had food for kids and adults. So yum! Service- 9/10. Everyone was soooo kind and helpful. The only bummer was that I told our server that it was my dad's birthday and he said he would bring out a birthday cupcake but he never did :( I even reminded him and it still didn't come. Experience- 100/10. The characters were soooooo cute all dressed up. They go around to every table, so everyone has a chance to meet them and take pictures/videos. It honestly was so fun and really was the highlight of our holiday season. Extras- Valet parking was included, which was really nice. I've always wanted to try Storytellers Cafe but it has always been out of my price range. Luckily we had some gift cards that were enough to cover our entire meal so we decided to give it a try. We were able to snag reservations even though they were closer to closing time 7:40 pm. We were seated exactly at reservation time. Our waitress was really nice and attentive. The options for the buffet were pretty limited for the price but the quality was pretty good. My favorite dish was the lobster ravioli. The characters make sure they all stop by to chat with you and take a picture. And they were all dressed in their Halloween store. The restaurant is really big with lots of seating areas but the actual food area is pretty small. I personally don't think i would pay out of pocket to come again as i do think their should have been more food options but i do recommend trying it at least once if you can. read more

The hotel and restaurant are beautiful. Now the problem. For my Wife, Daughter & I to eat there, it was $200+. The selection was very minimal and the quality was so so and much under other nice hotels I've been to. The omelette bar and Mediterranean Quiche were the best. The cappuccino (for extra money) was good. The rest was plan Jane. Potatoes not cooked enough, hash browns not cooked enough, regular quiche had weird consistency, the rest of the food seemed rather low quality. Was once one of the best restaurants to eat at when you visited Disneyland. That statement truly can not be said today. The quality of food is sub par. Bland, dry and most of the food where Luke warm. BBQ sauce clearly comes straight of SBR. A far cry from what it used to be. Carving station items were cold. My son loves attending character brunches and dinners here. At 4 he's also into trying a variety of foods. During breakfast, his favorite items include their sausages, eggs, hash browns and fruit. He's not a waffle guy but I'm working on it. At dinner, I like the variety of foods for those of us who don't eat meat. It's more than just salad. You can get some pretty tasty butternut squash ravioli here. My son loves trying everything from the kids pizza and pasta to their roasted chicken and vegetables. Service has always been pretty great for us and if our waiter sees we're looking for a certain character to visit before we go, they make it happen. Storytellers has been one of my go-to restaurants on Disney property for at least 20 years. It has almost always provided a great, buffet experience and certain dishes that have been on the menu for decades. On this visit, we took my daughter to the character breakfast. She loves Mickey and Minnie, so this was a must. They also have Chip, Dale and Pluto here, although Pluto never made it over to us. The service here was good. We really liked our server. She was very attentive and got us drinks and cleared our plates pretty frequently. The current brunch menu has a really good assortment of both healthy and comfort food items. I love that they have so many fruits, berries, yogurt and toppings like chia seeds and good granola! My favorite was the smoked salmon and all the toppings for you to make an excellent lox-like bagel. All of the hot food items I tried were good. I especially liked the ham and the tri-tip at the carving station. There is a great make-you-own omelette station with good options and all of your standard breakfast fare is there. The only thing I didn't love was their quiche, but the tomatoes it was served with were quite tasty. For dessert, Storytellers makes the best bread pudding of any buffet over ever been to. If they have it then it is a must. They have other good desserts, but I was much too full to eat anything else at this point. Just a wonderful family birthday celebration and opportunity to take pictures with some of our favorite characters for Christmas cards. They serve a really nice variety of brunch items and I found the majority of food choices to be well prepared. The selection is more adult oriented than Goofy's Kitchen which we appreciated. All of the carved meats were moist which is a rare thing at buffet style spreads. Service gets an A+ with every staff member devoted to making sure patrons enjoy their meals and experience. The individuals working as characters are all energetic and make repeat visits to your table to make sure you are having a great time. They do a wonderful job of making everyone feel like a kid again. There is free valet parking for patrons validated for 3 hours. Make sure not to linger too long because you will pay a hefty fee after that time period expires. This was a magnificent day and I wouldn't mind returning again at a later date. I've already been to Storytellers Cafe twice in 2025 and have a reservation for a third visit via the Disneyland app! There are two ways to park: drive up to the valet at the Grand Californian Resort and get 3 hours free parking. Show your Storytellers receipt at the parking payment window (& trade a Disney pin) for your complimentary valet. The other way is to parking in the Downtown Disney parking lot and walk through DD to the Grand Californian walkway by the Sweets shop. My first time was with my boyfriend and we dropped by on a Sunday morning with no reservation in July; then back on Labor Day for a reserved family breakfast. A waiter takes your drink order and then for a flat fee of $59 per adult (discounts taken if you have a Disney pass or credit card), you have your run in the Buffett from fruits to pastries to cereals, the incredible Mickey waffles, plus proteins and omelettes, etc. Theres also alcohol that the waiter can accommodate for mom, dad, grandma and grandpa from the menu. But for the price you pay, this is an experience and the wait staff is incredibly accommodating. Characters also come to every table for photo ops which the kids love. Both times, we've seen Mickey and Minnie; Chip and Dale plus Goofy and Pluto! They're so great with the kids and big kids like us so we can get pictures too. The vibe is the California Redwoods as it's part of the Grand Californian. So clean and beautiful and a bit reminiscent of wine country outside the cafe. There is a huge variety of meats, including prime rib, pork, and chicken, alongside tons of delicious sides and desserts. The highlight of the night was the character interactions. My son gets so excited meeting everyone, and seeing his reactions is truly priceless. They also brought him a birthday cupcake with a candle so we could celebrate. What a fun brunch! We made a reservation for 11:20am during their brunch service. They sat our table fairly quickly, gave us a complimentary button to commemorate the occasion. Our server, Juan, was amazing and so attentive! He got us started with drinks and we were off to the buffet. The buffet plates are heavy & porcelain so I prepared a plate for our 5 year old, and went back for my own. The brunch fare was excellent, our favorites being the bagels with lox and cream cheese with capers, the caprese salad, Mickey Mouse waffles, chilaquiles, bacon and the made-to-order omelette station (extra points for soy based chorizo!) The brunch service also includes a few more lunch items that I passed on, in hindsight if you want just the breakfast food options it is a bit cheaper to book the breakfast vs the brunch. The characters were so fun and rotated around the room and gave you a minute or two for some fun interactions! I liked that we were in an aisle booth so we could jump out for a photo of them and to have them sign our daughter's autograph book.On our visit we had Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, chip & Dale. Our service time was wrapping up and the characters were taking a break and we let our server Juan know that we had not yet costed with Mickey or Dale and he mad sure it happened before we left, 5 STARS FOR JUAN! Soooo cute and cozy!! I recommend coming here for BREAKFAST/ BRUNCH for the character breakfast!! They have a great spread of food in the morning: classics like eggs, Mickey waffles, hash browns, and oatmeal, as well as a richer foods like a breakfast hash and cut meats. Their fruit was AMAZING!! A surprising stand-out. All of their food is very tasty. It's hard to come by quality buffets (unless you're in Vegas) and I'd say Disney did great with this one :) It was also just sooo fun! We got visits from Mickey, Minnie, Dale, and Goofy! However be prepared for LOTS of kids. I kind of felt out of place LOL! Decent service. They kind of just let you be after you sit down and they take your beverage/ coffee order. read more

We went to Daisy's Holiday Pajama Party Brunch. It was $70 for adult and $40 for kids. The service was great. The food was ok. It was a hit or miss. Waffles, chilaquiles, hashbrowns, eggnog bread pudding were excellent. Eggs, sausage, macarons, and cookies were just meh. The character meet and greets were fun. They also sign autographs in case you're wondering. Daisy, Donald, Pluto, and Chip & Dale were there. My 7 year old had a great time. It's a bit expensive for what it is. If the food was better or if it wasn't so expensive, I would recommend it more. If you want to splurge or if you want to celebrate something, then it's a good splurge. This is one of my most favorite character, dining experiences in the Disney bubble. I come here regularly every time I stay at one of the resorts and it never disappoints first of all the brunch breakfast buffet is so delicious you can't go wrong. The lunch is just as good but the dinner the dinner that's where it's at !!! the dinner is the best so many good food options and the desserts just as good . If you have little ones they will love it. It's completely worth it. The characters come to your table, they dance, they interact. It's just hard to describe the amazing feeling ... I mean, even me as an adult I continue to come here and my son loves it !! Go ahead and book that reservation because walk-ins are pretty much unheard of so get on your app and have fun. read more

Booked a mid-morning brunch about a month ahead for a Monday, assuming it wouldn't be too busy. Surprisingly when we arrived about 15 minutes early, the cafe was already full with a wait. After checking in, we waited outside until we got a text that our table was ready (only about 7 minutes later) so the turnaround for reservations was impressively quick. Once seated, we were greeted promptly and ordered drinks. The buffet ($36 for kids, $64 for adults) includes coffee, tea, juice, and soft drinks. Our first plate was mostly breakfast fare (sausage, eggs, chilaquiles, bacon, an omelet station, Mickey waffles). By the second round, the "brunch" items were available (teriyaki drumsticks, salmon, mac n cheese, chicken tenders, fries, roasted vegetables). There's also a fruit station and a dessert section with bread pudding, sorbet, and a small assortment of sweets. Overall, it felt a bit pricey for what was offered. I was hoping for more Disney-themed dishes beyond the Mickey waffles. There were five characters rotating through the dining room (Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale, and Pluto) who visit tables. They periodically pause for a dance, after which they take a break. During our 1.5-hour meal, we saw four of the five - Mickey never made it to our table. At the end, I learned that we could have used complimentary valet parking at the hotel for Storytellers Cafe. Instead, we parked at Downtown Disney, where validation only applies to dining within that area, not the hotel. read more

The ambiance is so happy. The service is attentive and welcoming. Michele was efficient and got us stuff not on the buffet! The food is always amazing. Lobster ravioli, shrimp cocktail', bbq ribs, we're just some of the delicious food in the buffet. The bread pudding, cookies, soft serve sorbet, peach cobbler, and chocolate filled donuts were just a few of the many dessert offerings. The characters just add so much to your meal. They come around to take pictures with you and dance around with you, if you want. You can get a great meal any where but this is Just overall fun with a great meal! So we came to storytellers brunch over the weekend for my son's birthday and to see the characters. The food was great! Way better in my opinion the Minnie and friends breakfast over at plaza inn. The service/server/characters were great! Although I wish we got to see more of the characters like Donald and daisy and goofy. Mickey, Minnie, the chipmunk brothers and Pluto were the only ones who kept coming by and making their rounds multiple times. My only complaint is we had a had a 10:45 reservation and we were not only on time, but we were early and didn't get seated till nearly 11:30. With an antsy and hungry toddler, being significantly delayed on our reservation really didn't put a good start to the brunch. Aside from that everything was great. My son had a great time and we loved the cute chocolate Mickey cake they bright out to him for his birthday. Very grateful for that and I would 10/10 return read more
