We had a breakfast reservation at 10:30, which was really nice because we were able to catch the brunch menu for the breakfast price. You are able to start checking in 20 minutes before your reservation. We started check in 10 minutes before and got seated in about 5 minutes. The service here was really great! All the staff members were super friendly, helpful and attentive the whole time. This character dining experience is a buffet style, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food! My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the tri-tip, and I looooved the Mickey Waffles and Bread Pudding. They had the typical breakfast fare and a good handful of special dishes. There were 5 characters making their rounds in the restaurant, but don't bombard you if you wanted to eat and enjoy your meal like my boyfriend. The only reason I came here was for the character interaction and wow were they disorganized!! I have been to a bunch in WDW but none in Cali so I expected that they would have the same kind of vibe. Well turns out they are supposed, our server kept saying "oh they missed this section, let me get them" The whole point of spending the money is to get the experience not to watch kids see them walk by and ask why they aren't coming over. We had an amazing character dining experience here! The characters made frequent rounds to each table, giving guests plenty of opportunities for interactions, photos, and memorable moments. The buffet offered a great variety of delicious options, and the service was friendly, attentive, and efficient throughout our visit. We've also dined at Goofy's Kitchen in the past and if I had to choose between the two, I would pick this character dining experience. First, you get to see Mickey Mouse here (although Goofy is not part of the lineup). Second, the characters seemed much more interactive, engaging, and personable with the children. You're never too old for Disney, no matter what anyone says. And if they do... they're probably miserable and you should honestly feel bad for them. Reservations are highly encouraged and the best part is you don't even need park tickets since it's located inside the Grand Californian Hotel. We went for brunch and they had the standard all-you-can-eat spread with a salad bar, fruit bar, and dessert station. Some standouts for me were the Mickey waffles, lox salmon, heirloom salad, tri-tip and believe it or not, the hot chocolate!!! The food quality and variety honestly surprised me in the best way. We had quite the experience at Storytellers Cafe. We were celebrating our daughter's birthday and mine. She had suggested this option as she knew that both granddaughters would enjoy it even more than we would. The food is mostly good. There were a few tiny misses as far as flavor expectations versus what the items actually tasted like. On the other hand, I got to enjoy the most delicious fresh blackberries I've ever had! The lox were also really good, and I allowed myself a small bit of the flavored cream cheese (not supposed to have cow's milk dairy). Loved the scrambled eggs, which were really fluffy and tasty. I'm not a big eater, but I was able to taste lots of yummy items. Service is serve-yourself from the buffet, with a table server to clear plates as you go back and forth to the buffet line. Ours was nice enough, but he didn't impress our daughter, who was paying for her group of five, while Dear Hubby and I paid our share for the two of us. Their French macarons for dessert were also amazing. Better than expected there! Buffet brunch and character dining -- is there any better way to spend a birthday? Storytellers is one of those places that you need to try at least once. We were lucky to get a reservation on a Sunday because we booked well in advance, which is hugely recommended! From the moment we entered, the energy in here is incredible. Candisse greeted us, wished us happy birthday, and even made a birthday button for my triplet sister who wasn't joining us that day. It's such a small touch but it made us laugh and my sister who couldn't join us really appreciated it. The buffet is actually super solid. Like, I was expecting hotel breakfast vibes but the eggs were fluffy and the Mickey waffles were overflowing. There was no scrimping here. They also have much more than just breakfast, including a few salads, a carving station, teriyaki chicken, and Mac and cheese. There's also a pretty extensive dessert and fruit station. We LOVED our time at Storyteller's Cafe! We went for "The Christmas Carol" themed dinner and had the best time. It really was the highlight of our holiday season! Food- 10/10. The food was delicious. I especially loved the salmon, salads, and desserts. It's buffet style so you could get as much as you wanted. They had food for kids and adults. So yum! Service- 9/10. Everyone was soooo kind and helpful. The only bummer was that I told our server that it was my dad's birthday and he said he would bring out a birthday cupcake but he never did :( I even reminded him and it still didn't come. Storytellers has been one of my go-to restaurants on Disney property for at least 20 years. It has almost always provided a great, buffet experience and certain dishes that have been on the menu for decades. On this visit, we took my daughter to the character breakfast. She loves Mickey and Minnie, so this was a must. They also have Chip, Dale and Pluto here, although Pluto never made it over to us. The service here was good. We really liked our server. She was very attentive and got us drinks and cleared our plates pretty frequently. The current brunch menu has a really good assortment of both healthy and comfort food items. I love that they have so many fruits, berries, yogurt and toppings like chia seeds and good granola! My favorite was the smoked salmon and all the toppings for you to make an excellent lox-like bagel. All of the hot food items I tried were good. I especially liked the ham and the tri-tip at the carving station. There is a great make-you-own omelette station with good options and all of your standard breakfast fare is there. The only thing I didn't love was their quiche, but the tomatoes it was served with were quite tasty. For dessert, Storytellers makes the best bread pudding of any buffet over ever been to. If they have it then it is a must. They have other good desserts, but I was much too full to eat anything else at this point. Once seated, we were greeted promptly and ordered drinks. The buffet ($36 for kids, $64 for adults) includes coffee, tea, juice, and soft drinks. Our first plate was mostly breakfast fare (sausage, eggs, chilaquiles, bacon, an omelet station, Mickey waffles). By the second round, the "brunch" items were available (teriyaki drumsticks, salmon, mac n cheese, chicken tenders, fries, roasted vegetables). There's also a fruit station and a dessert section with bread pudding, sorbet, and a small assortment of sweets. Overall, it felt a bit pricey for what was offered. They serve a really nice variety of brunch items and I found the majority of food choices to be well prepared. The selection is more adult oriented than Goofy's Kitchen which we appreciated. All of the carved meats were moist which is a rare thing at buffet style spreads. Service gets an A+ with every staff member devoted to making sure patrons enjoy their meals and experience. The individuals working as characters are all energetic and make repeat visits to your table to make sure you are having a great time. They do a wonderful job of making everyone feel like a kid again. There is free valet parking for patrons validated for 3 hours. Make sure not to linger too long because you will pay a hefty fee after that time period expires. This was a magnificent day and I wouldn't mind returning again at a later date. I've already been to Storytellers Cafe twice in 2025 and have a reservation for a third visit via the Disneyland app! There are two ways to park: drive up to the valet at the Grand Californian Resort and get 3 hours free parking. Show your Storytellers receipt at the parking payment window (& trade a Disney pin) for your complimentary valet. The other way is to parking in the Downtown Disney parking lot and walk through DD to the Grand Californian walkway by the Sweets shop. My first time was with my boyfriend and we dropped by on a Sunday morning with no reservation in July; then back on Labor Day for a reserved family breakfast. A waiter takes your drink order and then for a flat fee of $59 per adult (discounts taken if you have a Disney pass or credit card), you have your run in the Buffett from fruits to pastries to cereals, the incredible Mickey waffles, plus proteins and omelettes, etc. Theres also alcohol that the waiter can accommodate for mom, dad, grandma and grandpa from the menu. But for the price you pay, this is an experience and the wait staff is incredibly accommodating. Characters also come to every table for photo ops which the kids love. Both times, we've seen Mickey and Minnie; Chip and Dale plus Goofy and Pluto! They're so great with the kids and big kids like us so we can get pictures too. The vibe is the California Redwoods as it's part of the Grand Californian. So clean and beautiful and a bit reminiscent of wine country outside the cafe. We went to Daisy's Holiday Pajama Party Brunch. It was $70 for adult and $40 for kids. The service was great. The food was ok. It was a hit or miss. Waffles, chilaquiles, hashbrowns, eggnog bread pudding were excellent. Eggs, sausage, macarons, and cookies were just meh. The character meet and greets were fun. They also sign autographs in case you're wondering. Daisy, Donald, Pluto, and Chip & Dale were there. My 7 year old had a great time. It's a bit expensive for what it is. If the food was better or if it wasn't so expensive, I would recommend it more. If you want to splurge or if you want to celebrate something, then it's a good splurge. We love Storytellers. It is always a treat for my family to come here. My thoughtful husband usually books up for V day and Easter. I greatly enjoy the new themed dining. Characters are always a big hit for the family (adults included). I am happy they have been consistently upgrading their menu and offerings. It definitely appeals to all appetites. The most recent visit for V day, they had a new cheese and charcuterie station with some Mexican guacamole and chips. I found this to be a fancy add on for those who enjoy that. The only complaint I have is the reservation system, or shall I say the process. Even though we check in prior to our reservation time, we always end up waiting at least 15-20mins past our due time. So we came to storytellers brunch over the weekend for my son's birthday and to see the characters. The food was great! Way better in my opinion the Minnie and friends breakfast over at plaza inn. The service/server/characters were great! Although I wish we got to see more of the characters like Donald and daisy and goofy. Mickey, Minnie, the chipmunk brothers and Pluto were the only ones who kept coming by and making their rounds multiple times. My only complaint is we had a had a 10:45 reservation and we were not only on time, but we were early and didn't get seated till nearly 11:30. With an antsy and hungry toddler, being significantly delayed on our reservation really didn't put a good start to the brunch. Aside from that everything was great. I went to the Storytellers Cafe's, Clarabelle's Autumn dinner for my niece's birthday. Adults were $89, kids 3-9 were $42. There was 3 adults, birthday girl(5) and my 18 month old. The food was surprisingly good! I was ready for horrible buffet food in exchange for the characters for my niece but I was so happy that the food was delicious. Storytellers Cafe is likely the worst place for the gummies I took an hour earlier to fully take effect into my bloodstream. I was sitting in this rustic, cabin-like ambiance fighting for my life when Donald Duck's girlfriend came to our table and started interacting with us. I wanted no part of it, so I have no idea why the words "I think you're cute" left my lips. I didn't want to catch the hands from Donald, so I got up and went to hit the buffet. I weaved through the wild children roaming around, refusing to make eye contact or acknowledge any of the Disney characters. My first plate consisted of prime rib, turkey breast, fried chicken, kale salad, vegetables, and a slice of pizza. They literally have everything in here. It was so overwhelming. The thing about me is I always forget I don't like prime rib until it's on the plate sitting in front of me. It's just so one dimensional. Prime Rib just doesn't have the juice. No motion. There is no crust formation, no seasoning, and no soul. Just a pink center. That cow is still alive damn near. I will never understand the general public's obsession with prime rib. Everything else was middy wap besides the kale salad and pizza, so my 2nd plate consisted of only kale salad and pizza. As I was walking back to the table with my 2nd plate, my soul barely still in my body, some music began playing loud and all the disney characters started dancing in unison through the center of the establishment. I couldn't help but think of the people in these costumes just trying to feed their families. Crazy job to have. As the show ended, I looked to my left and there was Donald, staring deep into my soul. I thought I was gonna have to throw a spinning wheel kick in self defense, but I slowly walked back to my table without breaking eye contact. He didn't want this problem and I can't blame him. As we got up to leave, I saw Goofy. Goofy is my GUY. Storytellers Cafe ended up being a wonderful oasis after a long day at California Adventure. It wasn't what I would call a hot day but after walking for hours and hours and hours, and the last-minute decision to have a character dinner and luckily being able to get a table, the respite of a nice, large buffet, with wonderful service and comfy chairs could not be understated. When we first arrived we were seated right away at a very small table despite there not being any openings but were then moved to a wonderful perfect table in the center of one of the seating areas. Our server was outstanding and extremely friendly very quick to show with drinks and everything we needed and on top of that they had an array of beer and wine as well as mixed drinks, which is not something I am used to being a thing at Disney parks! The buffet was loaded with tons of variety and everything that I tried was great, including a hand carving station, and boy did I eat a bit of everything. There was even a massive set of desserts that were all themed around different characters and things within the Disney universe that was really interesting. As we sat and enjoyed, along with each of us returning to the buffet stations, and as we did, the characters started coming, and this was easily the highlight of the dinner. Despite the great food and the great drink, wonderful service and great people nothing could top meeting all the classic Disney characters. Hugs and photos right at our table. Even those of us who have been several times and aren't kid's age anymore but still kids inside. The whole experience made everyone smile and it was one of the best moves we made all day. Maybe it was because we came exactly at opening, but we honestly weren't able to eat much at all because the characters kept coming one by one. There's nothing wrong with that, but by the time we finished interacting with all of them, the restaurant had already started filling up and we didn't get our fill of breakfast. The food itself was your run-of-the-mill breakfast spread; eggs, bacon, and an omelet station. But they did have some elevated touches I appreciated, like an ice cream machine, assorted desserts, a meat carving station, lox station, and even French butter which was a nice surprise. I can't say much about parking as I was able to get in through other means. But I will say the host and our server were incredibly inviting and really made our experience feel special. I came to Donald's Tales of Adventure at Storytellers Café after seeing it on TikTok and was super curious to try it since it's the first year they're doing a Donald Duck-themed character dining. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype. We went for dinner, and while the food was okay, it definitely didn't wow me. The selection felt limited, especially for dessert, and the overall atmosphere wasn't as festive or fun as I expected for a character experience. One of the biggest letdowns? We never got to meet Donald Duck. No one came around to make sure guests saw or got photos with all the characters -- which was really disappointing. There's no designated photo op with Donald either, unlike Goofy's Kitchen where Goofy greets you at the entrance or Minnie at Plaza Inn. This was my third character dining experience, and Goofy's Kitchen is still the best -- better food, better service, and more fun overall. This is a great experience! I had a lot of fun. My favorite items at the breakfast buffet were the chilaquiles which were surprisingly spicy (in a good way) and the Mickey waffles, nice and fresh. Honestly everything tasted great. I went during Daisy's Pajama Party and interacting with the characters was a fun and unique experience. They make sure to be attentive to everyone there. Any review for Storytellers Cafe should carry the disclaimer that the buffet is not the same any two days and the experience can differ greatly accordingly. That said, my most recent visit was a triumph in their offering of new favorites. The kale salad has leaves better chopped and massaged than many à la carte menus and the roasted vegetables (namely the broccoli and cauliflower) were perfectly tender. The buffet also allows for an entertaining and delicious mashup of dishes. For example, my meal consisted of the greens from the kale salad (eschewing the berry garnish as much as possible), the goat cheese from atop the beet salad, and brassicas selected from among other vegetables. The ethics of such precise and surgical selection can be debated, but the tastiness cannot. Each element was prepared very well and contributed to a fantastic meal. The characters, decor and jaunty service are also a plus, adding a joviality without cutting into the quality of the food itself. Special shoutout to Chip and Dale for showing us love on account of our Chip and Dale tees. The dining space is beautifully constructed in keeping with the craftsman design of the hotel. The Worse buffet I've ever been to with a Disney name. I came here to create memories, not heartburn. The Staff was great, overpriced, but the food had nothing eye-catching or tasted like other places; the food was mostly simple stuff, with one carving station, wow. With the amount of money I spend here, I could have purchased a yearly pass and have enough to add a deposit for a meal in their parks. The place was overbooked, and the seating area was packed, leaving little room for the characters to move around. The character had one show every couple of minutes and wasn't interactive like other shows. Save yourself the trip and the money; you will likely sit near the bathroom like us, which is very convenient and also very gross. You start to notice everyone's satisfied, relieved faces as they come out of the bathroom. read more

Be sure you make a reservation! Located within the Grand Californian hotel. You can get 3 hrs of validated self-parking and valet with a restaurant receipt, so be sure to hold onto that receipt! Fast and friendly service in a loud and overly happy casual atmosphere! Characters like Goofy and Donald walk around and interact with you, so be prepared if your kids are terrified of mascots like mine are. All you can eat and you serve yourself. Tons of offerings both healthy and not. Be sure to stuff yourself to get your moneys worth because it's insanely expensive! read more

I think the main thing that should be judged here is the food -- it is a buffet after all. And I can say you will not be disappointed by the breakfast selections. Everything you can think of from sweet, savory, healthy, and not so healthy ;) Service was super friendly and accommodating and they made sure to let us know we could ask questions about anything. Also we got there a little before our reservation and were seated right away. As far as ambiance, the Grand Californian is one of the most beautiful hotels in the area and this room greatly reflects the magic of Disney and the Craftsman style architecture. We got to take tons of pictures with the characters who came by about every 10 minutes, so there was never a dull moment. The way everything is priced nowadays, the cost isn't much more than an average dining out experience. That, plus the experience of interacting with characters and seeing the look on your kid's face, makes this a no-brainer. read more

I can only speak on my experience, but when I took my three children here, they loved it and so did I. It wasn't a busy day, so maybe we got lucky, but we walked in for breakfast and the characters were already out visiting every table. Each character came to ours, and the interactions were great. I also knew what I was paying for. I was paying for the experience, so I wasn't going in with super high expectations for the food. That said, I've been to all the character dining spots at Disneyland and the other hotels, and this one had the best food out of all the ones I've tried.
