It's very walkable, feels safe, and has that nice open downtown layout where you can let kids wander a bit. This was helpful since we were meeting our nephews there for part of the day. Everything is close together, so you can go from wine tasting to shopping to coffee or dinner. We spent the afternoon popping in and out of shops and had a great time. I stopped into C'est La Paire looking for comfortable walking shoes and Deb was so sweet and helpful. I also loved Tay & Grace and Kalifornia Jean Bar--both had a ton of things I wanted to take home. We grabbed coffee at Deuces, which is super cute and local-feeling, and I picked up a gift for my nephews and my dog at Hopscotch & Bark (honestly one of the cutest shops)! We wandered into Eiko's for happy hour, which was gold - great prices and really solid sushi. Definitely try the Ricky Ricardo on Vacation and, oh my god, the Bluefin Avocado Sashimi is out of this world. We were walking back to the hotel and happened to hear some live music down at Tonewood & Courage, which was such a cool venue. Overall it's just an easy, enjoyable spot to spend the day with a little bit of everything and we didn't even have to get in our car. Everyone loved it!

Meet the Grape Crusher…read more Many, many years ago, my Girl Scout troop helped at a family vineyard in Florida. Wow. That gave me a lot of respect for all of the labor that goes into harvesting and crushing grapes. The Grape Crusher pays homage to all those who labored to make Napa Valley what it is today. This monumental sculpture is visible from the highway, but you can exit to take a closer look. The vineyard worker wears a wide brimmed hat. He has both hands gripping the handle of the press and one foot braced against the basket. (We were also sweating, but that was because it reached 104 F on a very unseasonably hot day in October... so bonus...we had the park to ourselves.) Beautiful scenic views from the park. Free parking available with an easy inclined paved walkway to the statue. Worth a short stop for a quick photo op.

It's hard to miss this brightly colored building in downtown Napa and the historical marker on the…read moreside. I wasn't in a mood for drinking but I'm sure in a mood for a historical marker to share some of what has been. The marker is on the front of the building and reads, "Built in 1893, the Oberon was the hub of activity in downtown Napa. Patrons could buy a cigar, get a shave and a haircut for two bits, or relax with a cold beer while playing a leisurely game of pool or cards. Many a shoe was shined here. In 1932 the building burned down. Two years later the building was restored to its current Art Deco style. The Oberon was a hangout for boxing legend Rocky Marciano while training for fights. In 2010 the building was earthquake retrofitted by the present owner Joe Peatman and since 1994 has been the home of Downtown Joe's Restaurant and Microbrewery." We were on the second floor and The very nice receptionist greeted us as we walked in. The rooms we had were all joined with three large tv screens across all three! Seeing the speaker wad not a problem no matter where you sat. Also, the climate was comfortable! Not too hot or cold, which they tend to be. Lunch, delicious! A calm and useful oasis in a lovely town!…read more I have visited there several times over the last few weeks and the whole campus of various public offices, services, and facilities in which the library exists is terrific. Post office is right across the driveway, too. The library itself is cozy and calming, carpeted and clean, with a nice kids section and plenty of stuff for non-kids, like well-maintained computers and a newspaper reading area with tables and chairs that is connected to the main area. There were users of the Napa County library system picking up books that had arrived there from other local and distant libraries, which is so useful! The people that work there have been unfailingly helpful and welcoming, assisting me with printing as well as a flash drive loan that was clutch for me at a moment when it was really needed, and for that I thank them here as well as me being appreciative in the moment. Lots of easy parking behind the facility, also, and the location is a nice springboard to walk around welcoming Yountville in conjunction with a library visit if you are so inclined. I did not get any sense that visitors who are unfamiliar with the library are treated any differently than obvious long-time users, other than staff knowing and using the names of people who often come there, and that made me feel valued and "part of the scene," not just a tolerated intruder or something. The staff sets a professional and welcoming tone in this small corner of the world, and I get the sense from my visits, which will remain part of my pattern, that they like where they work and genuinely want to be of service to the public. BRAVO, YOUNTVILLE LIBRARY!
