Do I have parents who allow my magazines, bottles, cans, and other magazines to commingle with their suburban recycles? Yes, but oy, the inconvenience. Enter the City of Chicago Recycling Drop-off Center. The "center" is actually a grouping of huge blue receptacles in the lot of the Streets & Sanitation office. But it couldn't be simpler. There's a list of allowables on the side and you do not need to separate; all you do is open the lid and fling in your stuff. The web site says it's available during daylight hours, so it's possible they close the gate after dark - I don't know. This is also where they keep the massive stockpile of road salt. Word to the wise: resist the temptation to climb that big white pyramid. And, note that Ravenswood is two-way between Pratt and Devon, so you can get there from the north or south. Recycle on!

He asked questions like "does that bed need to be taken apart?" or "do we need to bring TV boxes to move the TV's?". He answered my many questions and I had the quote back very quickly (I want to say 48 hours) and was able to book my move immediately. Second, the team of movers on the moving day were FANTASTIC. There were four movers and they were all pleasant with me and each other, joking and laughing but never dilly-dallying. They stayed on point and on target the entire time. My apartment was situated clear across the complex to the loading dock but there was never any complaining about that part, even though I was apologizing profusely. They were done loading my apartment in 2.5 hours, ate lunch, and unloaded me into my new home by 3pm. This included putting my bed back together and my boy's bunk bed. Truly, this was so worth every penny I spent and their estimate actually came in higher than what I ended up paying. I was able to get situated in my new home very quickly because the boxes were put in the rooms that were labeled and they put everything where I had asked them to. Absolutely recommend this company. While I hope I don't have to move anytime soon, because, let's be honest, it sucks real bad...I would 100% call them again to move me in the future.

After about 15 minutes of explaining a pair of two-piece desks and four book cases, he said I was hostile and went into a personal attack, eventually hung up with a "f--- you". I called and talked to the receptionist, who said that's not like him. She also told me that they inventory every single item even if it isn't going - so the five pictures on the wall, and all the small items on the shelves. If you don't have a pristine house and you're in the middle of packing this is most definitely not the moving company for you.

One lounge chair had nicks and dings out of it, one kitchen chair inexplicably had a seat pad repaired but in a way that is different than all the other kitchen chairs, one rug was left on the truck after they left, and one box is completely missing and they take no responsibility for this missing box. Then they show me a list where everything was checked off, however they already know that one of the things checked off on that list is on the truck heading back to Chicago, so this check off list was completely made up. I was not here for the delivery, and they knew that I would not be here for the delivery as it was a move across country, and I expected them to take responsibility for making sure that everything that was shipped did arrive. I understand that things happen in transit, moving across country can be difficult, but their customer service in assisting with the problems has been horrible. Find someone that has better customer service.

I had a few motherboards to recycle and was told they do not take those even if they were off of a TV. Looks like if the parts look like a TV they take it and if they are just boards off a TV. Our real estate agent, Chris Cobb, recommended Prager. The actual cost of the move came in below their estimate. The driver, Bob Bychowski, was outstanding. He and his crew were extremely prompt on both ends. His truck was huge and immaculate. His crew was great. Each and every one of them introduced themselves to us by name and shook our hands and then got to work without delay. We haven't unpacked everything yet, but all the furniture arrived without a scratch. This was the easiest move we have ever experienced. We are a "his, mine and ours" family, so we have both moved many times over the decades. We both agree that this was by far the best moving experience ever. They may not be the cheapest, but you get what you pay for.
