    If you need a place to store your things safely this is the place and if you want top notch service this is the place. The staff is awesome!

The facility is a very nice one, and the rate listed for renting it was quite competitive. I am happy with the space that I rented. Nonetheless, I am extraordinarily unhappy with the business practices I have experienced related to the facility. I have experienced two major problems and misrepresentations over the past three and a half months. The first problem happened when I tried to move in. I arrived in San Antonio from California with a large truckload of my belongings on Easter Day, and I had a work crew of friends and family lined up to help me unload the truck on that day. I knew that because it was a holiday, there would be no one working in the office of the ExtraSpace facility. So I called the office in advance to get my access code and be sure everything would be ready on the day of my arrival. I was assured that I was good to go. Nonetheless, when I arrived, my access code for the facility did not work. I called the ExtraSpace corporate phone number for customer support, and was told that they would call someone associated with the facility so I could get some phone support within the next few hours. Nonetheless, no one called me back. I was later told by the staff of the facility that they turn off and do not answer their phones on holidays, even for calls coming from their corporate office. I ended up having to hire a work crew for two hours to help me unload my truck later in the week. The office staff at this facility refused to take responsibility for their failure to give me a valid access code, and to cover the cost of the work crew. So I called the ExtraSpace corporate office, and told them what had happened. The regional manager agreed to give me a credit for the additional expense to apply towards future rent. Then a few months later, I was given notice that after my first four months at the facility, that my initial rent rate was a "promotional rate" and that my rent at the facility was going to increase by 119%, more than doubling, starting on month 5. The initial rate was not advertised as a "promotional rate." In the research I had done on ExtraSpace before I decided to rent a unit at this facility, I had read experiences online from others who claimed that their rent more than doubled after a few months at an ExtraSpace facility. I also read about the class action lawsuit (Johnson et al. v. Extra Space Storage Inc.) filed against Extra Space for "bait and switch" tactics in California. So I called the facility to discuss my concerns before I made a decision to rent there. What I was told in that phone call was that rates were month to month and could be adjusted at any time (with proper notice) based on market conditions. I was also told that reviews that I had read of people claiming to have their rates doubled after just a few months were untrue, and that such was not their practice. At no time do I recall being told that the rate I was offered at initial move-in was a "promotional rate" or anything similar. The facts of this experience seem identical to the facts of the California class action suit for "bait and switch." When I got my notice of the 119% rent increase from ExtraSpace, I wrote them a letter explaining all this history, and made them an offer of a compromise. They declined my offer for a compromise. Your mileage may vary. Just know that if they tell you that they don't double rental rates after a few months, they are lying to you, because they did it to me.
