I spoke with Jimmy D. on the phone and was extremely impressed by his intentionality and how thorough and informative he was. He made sure I had a clear idea of what size unit I would need based on a few questions he asked. I scheduled a tour of the facility. They hook you in with the low prices. So nice at first and make it easy to sign up. Then after like 2 months, BOOM they just raise the price almost 40%!!!! And then a month later automatically sign me up, ADD an in-house insurance policy with I have my own policy on my homeowners that I provided at move in! And to ADD TO IT...when I initially called in to complain about the raise in fee, David at the front desk said it was "an industry norm and something I would just need to deal with, and if I wanted to complain about it to someone, I would have to call another number, or email someone else about it" he told me he was busy and would email me the contact information - which of course, he never did. Their newest SCAM has been to charge me an additional $16.00 a month for insurance when I provided them with a policy when I moved in. I just called the office and talked to David again, and he said his "guess" was because my policy expired. I told him it hadn't. So, he took another look and said it was because my name wasn't on the policy. To which I reminded him no, but my husband who is also on the storage rentals name is. How do they not check the names on the rental agreement before opening up an additional rental insurance policy and charging someone for it?! David was VERY annoyed and told me he was busy and would call me back. We will see if that happens. I highly doubt it. DO NOT FALL for this horrible business. Hidden fees, raising prices. It started with speaking with Steve (One of the owners) about four months ago, as I informed him that I was moving 300 miles to town suddenly and desperately needed a place to store all of my stuff. Steve promised to have a specific size reserved for me, and if they didn't have a unit available when I moved down, that he would let me use his personal garage. That wasn't necessary though, as Steve made sure there was a space available (With about six hours notice from me, once I finally discovered when I was moving), and handled all paperwork over the phone as I was in the middle of a five-hour drive, leaving a lock in the unit because he knew I'd be getting there late in the evening and didn't have a fitting lock. My storage unit was spotless, the entire storage complex was/is spotless, and he was completely understanding and provided incredible customer service when I needed emergency access to my unit at 5am the next week. I've spoken to Steve a couple of times since. He was kind enough to remind me of my due date after I missed payment two months later, and didn't charge me a late fee because they're good people. I just finished a phone call with Steve's son, Mike, who provided equally great customer service and was incredibly accommodating to my requests. I'm removing my things from their unit, only because I've found a place to live in Austin. I would gladly drive back to Buda to continue using their services, because of the amazing customer service I've received. There's no need to storage unit shop. Call them today. Calling and talking to any other company is a waste of time.
