Good to see they encourage recycling.

Our first time in this area. This is a great place to CAMP. Located in the middle of everything there is to see and do in the area. There are stores, gas, post office, visitor centers, etc in the villages in the area. About a 1/4 mile up the road is stony creek lodge. A small store, restaurant, lodging, showers ($4 10 minutes), and gas ($4.09 July 28th 2014). We thought the sites in the lower loop were just a bit better than the upper loop. Our site #18 was very spacious and private, and next to the stream. The bathrooms have flush toilets and sinks, and were clean and well stocked during our four day stay. About a dozen potable water sites through out the campground. Good sized bear boxes, bear proof dumpsters and recycle bins, and friendly camp hosts. Because this is national forest you can gather wood from any fallen dead trees. There is and endless supply of available kindling, tinder, and logs of every size in and around the campground. Especially the lower loop. So bring a sharp axe or hatchet.

This year my new years resolution was to go camping at least twice. I used to go often as a kid and haven't been since high school, so I invested in a crap ton of camping equipment and made some reservations. As of this trip, I've achieved my goal, and this was an amazing place to do it! We went the last weekend of the season, as apparently the campground was closing up shop on the Sunday we were checking out. It was drizzly throughout the weekend, and at one point it even snowed on one of our hikes, but we were able to keep dry at night by the fire. The camp host sells firewood at the campground for $8 a bundle. There are fire rings at each site and most of the campsites are very spacious. We were originally aiming for campsite 18 in lower Stony Creek Campground because of some of the reviews on here, but it disappeared right before we were able to book it!! So we settled on campsite 12 (also in lower)--we were so glad we did!! Campsite 12 is a walk-in site. You park at the top of the hill and have to carry everything down the hill to the picnic table and fire ring. It wasn't too far, though, and it added a level of seclusion that the other sites don't boast. We could see one or two other campfires at night from the surrounding sites, but for the most part we felt like we were in our own little corner of the woods. It's right by the creek and you could hear it softly trickling along all night, which to me was incredibly relaxing. The campsite was also very large. It didn't have any fallen trees to sit on, but if you bring your own chairs and stools, this of course won't be a problem. It's also REALLY close to the restroom and water spigot (located just across the road that circles the campground), but because your actual site is across the road and down the hill, you don't see/hear/smell anything from the bathroom. The bathrooms have flush toilets and running water. They also have toilet paper! There's no electricity, though, so you need to remember to bring a lantern or flashlight with you whenever you go, as well as soap or hand sanitizer. There is a great trail across the street that starts in Upper Stony Creek campground and goes all the way to a lake. It's a difficult hike (all uphill, at least as far as we went), but it has lots of beautiful views. Bring a small picnic, wear the right shoes, and carry enough water with you and it should be pleasant enough (but still difficult!). We didn't make it the full 6-7 miles that the trail runs (and never made it to the lake), basically because, after about 4 miles, it started to get snowy and foggy, and it had already taken us quite a while. You can also get in the car and drive around Sequoia National Park to see some giant sequoias and other awesome scenery. This was a GREAT place to go camping. We were only here two nights but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It's a campground to which I could see myself returning again and again.

My husband and I stayed here with our pup for two nights this past weekend and we had a really nice time! This campground provides flushing toilets and running, drinkable water which is so great! We stayed at campsite #24, which was in a nice spot- pretty secluded, and right across from a water pump. As I mentioned, they allow dogs (on leashes) which is awesome. I would recommend bringing some sort of ax/saw because they allow you to use wood that is around for campfires, but you will need to do some chopping for it! Also, the campsites closer to the road are closer together, so depending on what you are wanting, that information is good to know :) I would recommend this to people and we will all be staying there again!

We stayed at Upper Stony Creek. We stayed at site #8. This campsite is fantastic. The table and firepit were in good condition. There was plenty of wood to burn. There was a fun hike right from the site. The area is beautiful. The sites are close together, as they usually are, but still better than many. The Upper campground has pit toilets. It is quiet, you dont really hear any traffic. Make a reservation. Be prepared. We had a visit from a bear. Know the rules! Be ready for rain. You can take day trips to Kings canyon and General Sherman. There is a small river running right next to camp. The stars are out! Be sure to stay up late! Cannot wait to go back. Still trying to figure out why I left.

Room rate: $185/night…read more Positives The office staff seemed friendly. Overall, the grounds were nice. The proximity to Lake Kaweah was an added plus. The outward appearance of the motel seemed pleasant. It is also a great location to access Sequoia NP. That said, there were numerous issues. We were assigned to unit #1 (closest to the office), which I DO NOT recommend for the following reasons: 1) Initially, the hot water in the room was lukewarm at best. We asked them to adjust it which they did. It went from low lukewarm to medium lukewarm. Barely warm enough to take showers. Ironically the room instructions say guests are supposed to wash dishes before check out or be charged a fee. How clean can the dishes get with lukewarm water? Should the health and well-being of subsequent guests rely on how well previous guests wash dishes with lukewarm water? We're paying almost $200/night and have to wash dishes? 2) There is a charge for ice. Never came across this before, ever. See photo of guest instructions. We're paying almost $200/night and have to pay extra for ice? 3) Cabin/unit 1 is closest to a pen where they keep sheep and goats on site. The view of the lake is obscured by 1) the sheep pen, 2) a large bush 3) two large trees and 4) a window half covered with water spots (made even worse in the morning with glare from the morning sun. The trees provided shade, the bush didn't. Other cabins had the benefit of bushes that were trimmed for better visibility. Not sure why we got this cabin when others were available when we checked in. Several other parties checked in on Saturday (the day after we did) so other cabins were available at the time we checked in. 4) No TV remote in the bedroom. Had to download a remote app to control volume and on/off. TV instructions (in the living room) as written, did not work. The TV went dark without notice and didn't respond to the remote control. It responded to turning it off and back on - sometimes. There were other times that only way to get the TV to respond was by unplugging it, wait a minute or two and plugging it back in. These were daily issues. Multiply that by the number of days you're there and annoying doesn't begin to describe the frustration. While watching the NBA finals, the TV shutoff with 6:00 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. Wasn't able to get it to turn on again. Seriously? Note the photo of cables and extension cords hanging from the TV. Not a very neat appearance and could be a safety hazard. We're paying almost $200/night to have recurring TV issues? 5) When the toilet clogged and I reported it to the front desk, I was handed a plunger and a plastic bag to put it in afterwards. Seriously? Never cleared a toilet in a hotel before. Usually, maintenance handles that. We're paying almost $200/night and have to unclog the toilet? 6) On Saturday 6/14, we notified the office of water on the floor under the frig. On Sunday 6/15, we were in Sequoia NP all day, so the unit was available for someone to look at the frig. We arrived back at the room around 4:00 p.m. Water was still on the floor under the frig. Water was in the grout lines all over the floor. Same thing happened on 6/17. We were in Kings Canyon all day. When we got back the grout lines around the frig were wet again (see photos). If anyone looked at the frig there was no communication letting us know. We're paying almost $200/night to have recurring leaks under the frig? 7) There is an envelope in the room so that you can leave housekeeping a tip. If you're simply doing your job, that's not worthy of a tip. Given the cob webs and water spots on the windows they are not doing their job. Note - all units are single story making the windows reachable to be cleaned. Not sure why they don't clean the window during their housekeeping rounds or in between guests. 8) One window in the living room with an a/c unit had a cluster of dead insects and spider webs on the outside surface (see photo). Not the most appealing thing to look at. We're paying almost $200/night to look at dead insects and spider webs? 9) On a Monday morning 6/16 (our third morning) my wife showed me photos of roaches in both the bathroom and the kitchen. See photos. Given the lack of response to the leaking frig, I opted to get a can of bug spray from the front office and spray the kitchen and bathroom myself. I wasn't about to live with this nastiness one minute longer than necessary. Photos also show the dead ones the following morning. No urgency from the front desk when I asked for bug spray. They made a note for the Terminex man. No immediate action was taken. Almost $200/night to deal with roaches? I do not recommend this place.

But there was something we had not considered, we were going to be going to a place that required us to be fresh and ready to receive the wonder of place by a lack and we only had the energy for an angry stop at a gas station. So this place I visited when I was tired and that kind of gunked up the experience. If I would have gone with more energy to fully open my eyes than this experience would have been wondrous. When I booked the reservation I did it because it was a place by a lake. I enjoy water front dining and I usually use an ocean for scenery and today I was in a place where I could use a large creek. And since I was not going with any specific expectations that lake hit me like a bucket of wow. I remember like seeing the mouth of the lake going down like actual rocks. Like I was seeing the waters that people raft on with commitment to the outdoors. It felt like I had traveled into a place where trees were purest, bird melodies were the only noise in town (besides the water running in the creek), and cabins belonged to those who called the mountains home. I was in a novel and for some reason I felt like it was written by Twain. And that is really what I can say about this place. That is mostly what I remember the beauty of the creek. I wanted to spend more time there, I could have walked it, they had like a lounge but I did not. But I do remember the forested view that went on, and the roaring, jagged leg being a central character other than that I have small things to say. I remember the salad being ok. Denise and I shared a dish, I can't remember why but we did not eat the whole thing. It was inherently bad. But this could have been an off night, or just not the dish of the place, and really you go here for the lake, and the food was great in some ways just not in this specific way. I went to this place a few weeks ago, and, if I had not make it clear I remember the experience of being with the lake. So go here for that experience and let the rest just fall into place.
