    The river in the back

James and Jackie are amazing!! Staying at their wonderful bed and breakfast (for 4 days/3 nights) was an awesome experience for us (me, hubby, and our 3 kids-ages 3, 7 and 9)! James and Jackie are the nicest and most approachable people. They interacted so well with our children, too. They played board games with them, read books to my little one and even hid Easter eggs for them (we were there on Easter Sunday)! I'm pretty picky about the places we stay, and their home is spotless and organized. They took over the b&b in December, but you'd think they'd been running their business for years. They have worked so diligently in fixing up the place and adding their own personal touches. It's homey and comfy but updated and modern at the same time (especially the bedrooms). The beds/bedding were comfortable. We slept very, very well here! Btw, they don't have any pets, which was important to me (I have cat allergies). I read in a previous post that there was a cat that lived on the premises. I came armed with lots of Benadryl, because I really wanted to stay here:) The breakfasts were to die for! We had the best food and the best coffee (available all day)! We were very spoiled and missed this place when we left:( Our kids were able to play in the backyard, while their parents were chilling by the river...beers in hand. Listening to the river was very calming and relaxing...as was our entire stay. We talked and talked and really got to know James and Jackie. I hope to visit them in the very near future. My kids were extremely sad about leaving and can't wait to go back. Neither can I!

James and Jackie are the perfect hosts for this charming B&B. Guests: Follow James' excellent advice for park itineraries (you'll be glad you did). And, stay for Jackie's amazing breakfast. These two-course meals are better than any breakfast you could pick up anywhere within a 60 mile radius! Add to that just how charming and gracious they both are and how well appointed the rooms are (hello make-up remover towelettes) and you have enjoyed a perfect B&B experience. Bring a wine bottle to seat by the creek in the backyard or by the fairy garden. A fitting ending to a day of hiking and sightseeing.

Breakfast was good with an omelette, peach yogurt, coffee/tea, cheese, tomato, German cake, bread/jam... However, no dinner. Not sure if that was standard. Also, a reservation to a nearby overpriced restaurant was pushed upon us, without an explanation. Overall the place didn't really feel like a bed and breakfast other than breakfast time, all other times I felt like we had just walked into a friendly couple's house. For the most part the guy didn't speak English that well and it was hard to communicate with him. They didn't help us with our luggage at all, and kind of rushed us out in the morning. Another thing that really bothered us was the naked/freaky sexual stuff everywhere. Almost all art was naked women. I could really have done with a reduction in the freaky sex statues and naked woman pics or at least the addition of naked men. I also felt uncomfortable when the man was flirting with my sister and I in front of his wife, drunk. Also, the wireless Internet was kind of inconvenient and slow, like it was guest access that would log itself out on us. Overall I would probably do a different bed and breakfast next time.

As my wife didn't wish to get a refund, when we went to our room, it was ok at best. The AC unit was on, but the room was hot. After a day at Sequoia National, we came back ( about 3-4 hours later) and the room was warm. We went to dinner (see that review) and upon arriving at our room, it was now almost cool. By morning, it was finally cold. To yourself a favor, avoid this establishment if at all possible! It's just not worth the money!

Under normal circumstances, we would not have chosen this hotel, but unfortunately we had no other options at the time. Thankfully, it appears that the bed where our child slept did not have bed bugs. However, the bed where my husband slept was infested. The room itself was in very poor condition: dirty mirrors, stained chairs, and everything looked extremely old, worn out, and neglected. The overall level of cleanliness was unacceptable. My husband was bitten multiple times during the night and had a severe reaction. Unfortunately, the bed bugs appear to have traveled home with us, and we are now dealing with an infestation in our own apartment. This stay caused us significant stress and additional expenses. We do not recommend this hotel.

The "jacuzzi" is more of a bubbly hot tub, which was relaxing after a hike in the nearby forest. The tub in our room had a nicely sloped back, making it easy to recline for a long soak. Breakfast buffet is adequate with the usuals: scrambled eggs, breakfast meat, make-your-own waffles, yogurt, fruit, and juice. I'm not picky about coffee, but I walked next door for a better cup of joe. Rooms are exactly what you'd expect from a budget hotel -- not glamorous, but clean, with a comfortable bed and a newer TV. Standard channels only; I didn't see options for streaming from a laptop (no obvious HDMI/streaming hookups). Customer service earns an A+. Our first room had only warm water (not hot enough for a proper post-hike soak). Maintenance came up promptly and agreed, and the front desk offered us a different room immediately. We moved and enjoyed a hot soak and shower right away. Not a romantic getaway spot, but a dependable, affordable choice if you're traveling with kids or want a clean, comfortable place to stay

Comfort Inn & Suites Sequoia Kings Canyon is a fine choice, if you come into this, knowing it's not anything special. You're basically staying here due to its close proximity to the entrance of Sequoia National Park, which is a win. When planning our hiking trip around the area, we always look for where we can stay that's not far from where we're hiking. Three Rivers seems to be one of the best towns you can stay in when visiting Sequoia and Kings Canyon, making it closer than larger cities, but the lodging options will be more slim. I get that. We were able to find Comfort Inn & Suites Sequoia Kings Canyon, which is the only hotel chain in town and was busy the weekend we were here. It's a standard Comfort Inn that's minimal and you enter your room from the outside, not a lobby. Nothing fancy, but it works. Pros: powerful AC, mini fridge in room, HBO, breakfast included, perfect location Cons: ants in the room, unkept building, flimsy mattress

Upon check-in, we noticed there were no towels provided in the room. We had to request them, and even then, we were only given four towels, no hand towels or even paper towels were available. That evening, around midnight, we were woken up by loud stomping and laughter from the room above us, which went on for some time. This highlighted a serious lack of sound insulation between rooms. We tried calling the after-hours number three times to report the disturbance. Unfortunately, the first two calls were hung up on, and the third went straight to voicemail. No one ever got back to us. To top it off, the next morning both the shower and the toilet clogged, we only used the shower, so it clearly wasn't due to misuse. The only positive we can note is that the room was clean. Unfortunately, due to these issues, lack of basic amenities, poor noise control, and no response from staff, we would not recommend Sierra Lodge and do not plan to return. We hope management takes this feedback seriously to make the necessary improvements.
