Room rate: $185/night Positives The office staff seemed friendly. Overall, the grounds were nice. The proximity to Lake Kaweah was an added plus. The outward appearance of the motel seemed pleasant. It is also a great location to access Sequoia NP. That said, there were numerous issues. We were assigned to unit #1 (closest to the office), which I DO NOT recommend for the following reasons: 1) Initially, the hot water in the room was lukewarm at best. We asked them to adjust it which they did. It went from low lukewarm to medium lukewarm. Barely warm enough to take showers. Ironically the room instructions say guests are supposed to wash dishes before check out or be charged a fee. How clean can the dishes get with lukewarm water? Should the health and well-being of subsequent guests rely on how well previous guests wash dishes with lukewarm water? We're paying almost $200/night and have to wash dishes? 2) There is a charge for ice. Never came across this before, ever. See photo of guest instructions. We're paying almost $200/night and have to pay extra for ice? 3) Cabin/unit 1 is closest to a pen where they keep sheep and goats on site. The view of the lake is obscured by 1) the sheep pen, 2) a large bush 3) two large trees and 4) a window half covered with water spots (made even worse in the morning with glare from the morning sun. The trees provided shade, the bush didn't. Other cabins had the benefit of bushes that were trimmed for better visibility. Not sure why we got this cabin when others were available when we checked in. Several other parties checked in on Saturday (the day after we did) so other cabins were available at the time we checked in. 4) No TV remote in the bedroom. Had to download a remote app to control volume and on/off. TV instructions (in the living room) as written, did not work. The TV went dark without notice and didn't respond to the remote control. It responded to turning it off and back on - sometimes. There were other times that only way to get the TV to respond was by unplugging it, wait a minute or two and plugging it back in. These were daily issues. Multiply that by the number of days you're there and annoying doesn't begin to describe the frustration. While watching the NBA finals, the TV shutoff with 6:00 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. Wasn't able to get it to turn on again. Seriously? Note the photo of cables and extension cords hanging from the TV. Not a very neat appearance and could be a safety hazard. We're paying almost $200/night to have recurring TV issues? 5) When the toilet clogged and I reported it to the front desk, I was handed a plunger and a plastic bag to put it in afterwards. Seriously? Never cleared a toilet in a hotel before. Usually, maintenance handles that. We're paying almost $200/night and have to unclog the toilet? 6) On Saturday 6/14, we notified the office of water on the floor under the frig. On Sunday 6/15, we were in Sequoia NP all day, so the unit was available for someone to look at the frig. We arrived back at the room around 4:00 p.m. Water was still on the floor under the frig. Water was in the grout lines all over the floor. Same thing happened on 6/17. We were in Kings Canyon all day. When we got back the grout lines around the frig were wet again (see photos). If anyone looked at the frig there was no communication letting us know. We're paying almost $200/night to have recurring leaks under the frig? 7) There is an envelope in the room so that you can leave housekeeping a tip. If you're simply doing your job, that's not worthy of a tip. Given the cob webs and water spots on the windows they are not doing their job. Note - all units are single story making the windows reachable to be cleaned. Not sure why they don't clean the window during their housekeeping rounds or in between guests. 8) One window in the living room with an a/c unit had a cluster of dead insects and spider webs on the outside surface (see photo). Not the most appealing thing to look at. We're paying almost $200/night to look at dead insects and spider webs? 9) On a Monday morning 6/16 (our third morning) my wife showed me photos of roaches in both the bathroom and the kitchen. See photos. Given the lack of response to the leaking frig, I opted to get a can of bug spray from the front office and spray the kitchen and bathroom myself. I wasn't about to live with this nastiness one minute longer than necessary. Photos also show the dead ones the following morning. No urgency from the front desk when I asked for bug spray. They made a note for the Terminex man. No immediate action was taken. Almost $200/night to deal with roaches? I do not recommend this place. read more

My lawyer has advised me to not speak of the details. Here if I am not properly refunded for the two nights you will be hearing my my Laywer. IT IS UNLAWFUL to not honor an extended check out time and then go into the room and clear out my belongings!!! When clearly YOU where told and asked directly to extend our check out time and also we advised your house keepers who spoke perfect English. But the. Suddenly oooops you forgot oooops Miscommunication.... Acting dumb and playing dumb. Word to the wise learn to offer better customer service... paying more $200 per night for a shit hole and still getting treating like this and dealing with theft is not right!!! As promised, I had to write another review for this beautiful place. After days of hiking through Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, I was completely exhausted and craving rest. Instead of booking a hotel nearby, I asked my fiancé if we could return to Lazy J--and he agreed without hesitation. We had such a great experience the first time that going back felt like the perfect way to end our trip. This time we stayed in a cottage, and it was perfect. I spent the whole day outside, just soaking in the peace and listening to the birds--lesser finches, bushtits, song sparrows, California scrub jays... so many beautiful songs and so much variety. Huge shout-out to the lovely Jackie, who welcomed us with such kindness and made sure we had a cozy place to relax. She truly added to the warmth of our stay. It was exactly what I needed before heading back to the noise and busyness of city life. If you're visiting Sequoia National Park, I highly recommend this place. I've done a good amount of camping and at times I just want the easy road with being outdoors.. we arrived early and Julie greeted us with a warm welcome, she checked us in, and our room was a pleasant surprise, AC cold, clean, ample room and cozy! Backed up to the river, access behind the cottages, 10 minutes from Lake, 5 into town, 12 to Sequoia National Park.. we loved it, definitely coming back, calm, animals, and great staff!! We stayed at the Lazy J Ranch motel as a base camp for exploring Sequoia NP. The main entrance to the park is only a few minutes up the road. While the rustic vibe might not be for everyone, we had an enjoyable stay. We reserved a stand alone cottage and it was the absolute perfect fit for our family. Having a kitchen and no adjoining walls is a lifesaver with a 14 month old. The room was clean and was even serviced (beds made, fresh towels) every day which I wasn't expecting. The kitchen had everything we needed utensils and (basic) cooking wise - stove, microwave, pots and pans, etc. The AC worked great at keeping the room cool (it was 100* outside), blinds were all functional, and the ceiling fan delighted our son. We were located directly across from the pool and I worried it would be loud with other guests after our son went down but you couldn't hear anything. All the other guests were friendly and respectful. We enjoyed sitting outside our cottage in the Adirondack chairs with a glass of wine when our son went to bed. We also enjoyed saying hi to the goats and sheep (we didn't notice any noise or smell and the pens were directly behind our cottage), but didn't make it down to the river. We would definitely choose to stay here again as it was convenient, comfortable and clean. read more

We made the mistake of making a reservation at the comfort inn right up the street when we passed lazy J we got FoMo (fear of missing out) because it was so cute looking. We actually went to return after a horror show of a room that was offered at the comfort inn. We weren't expecting an ENTIRE CABIN!!!! The price was similar to the terrible one we reserved down the street. The host was welcoming and worked with us to make sure we had a place to stay for the weekend! The kitchen is fully stocked! (We ate out all week) full size fridge and enough room to have our 2 kids with us next time! So many activities! Quick walk to the river, nice and easy for even older people. The livestock were so cute too!!! And there wasn't smell or flies either!!!! The room we had was absolutely immaculate! I was so pleased I cried! It smelt so clean there as well! We had a very nice stay Thanksgiving weekend Covid 2020 for 3 nights. I'm glad they had updated the blankets, gone are the 80s style comforters and prints. It was just white sheets and blanket when we stayed at the King size room. In the bathroom there was hairdryer and a Kuerig coffee machine. We also had a microwave and small fridge in our room which was definitely very useful. So glad the motel is pet friendly and only charge $20 extra per stay. Our small Maltese loved the fireplace in the room and she would just sleep in front of it every night. It was very nice that the front desk gave us a list of food choices in the area with maps. We try the Pizza Factory and the Three Rivers Yogurt and they were decent. It's so adorable to visit the two goats and the few sheep right in their own backyard! They were all super friendly and love to come up and say Hello! Because of Covid, we were told there was no cleaning service. But we did find our room cleaned up after the 2nd day. It's still a good 45 minutes to an hour drive to get into the actual Sequoia park, but Lazy J Ranch is a home base for visiting the national park. read more

This place is special!! Stood at one of the cabin suites for the first time 7 yrs ago and visited again over this past weekend. Still exactly how I remembered it. Kids were only 3 and 6 the first time we came so they didn't remember it like my wife and I did. Great spot for a quick weekend visit on your way to the national parks. Rooms are super clean and get turned out daily so when you return from your day long adventures you can rest assure your room will be nice and clean. The front staff were just as friendly as I remember and they had fresh fruit for the guest which was AMAZING. The DVD collection was outstanding with movies for for everyone. My SO and I stayed here this past weekend and it was my favorite place I've stayed at so far. It's such a peaceful area and it's so gorgeous. The staff extremely friendly and helpful. There's fresh, locally grown fruit at the front desk up for grabs. There's a very friendly ranch dog that enjoys going for a swim and playing with the guests. They also have charcoal grills that you can use. The grills are behind the storage near the gazebo and it seems like they have enough for each room. We went to Sequoia on Saturday and checked in at the motel around 6 or 7. We went to eat after and didn't get to see the property too much that day. I wanted to see the starry sky and when I went outside the room, I was lucky enough to see a small black fox which I later found out isn't a common site near Sequoia. It was so cute. The following day, I got up before 7 by coincidence and decided to take a stroll. I was the only one out at the moment and their dog was joining me for a bit. Got to see the sheep and goats. Later on, I asked the staff how to get to the river and they said there's a trail behind cabin #5. The trail was about a 5 minute walk to the river. I loved everything about this property and have already told some people to go there. read more

Everything about this place is wonderful! We had a pleasant stay there recently. They have friendly staff, a huge backyard that really looks like a ranch....with sheep's or lambs, dogs...our kids had fun watching them play eat. Just a short walk from the ranch, you will find the river. We also had a great time using the pool that is in center of the property. It's clean and so nice because the water is warm (temperatures just the day when we went was as high as 109, so it kept the pool water warm. :) read more

I was worried while yelping for places to book in Sequoia as choices seemed limited and most reviews and pictures from fellow yelper of some of the places seems creepy. While driving along the mountain passing by familiar names I almost booked reminded me of the scary psycho movie motel. Hidden, cold, run down and plain creepy. When we turned into this place we booked, it looked much nicer then other nearby ones. It was a wide open spaced ranch with a horseshoe shaped driveway going around the pool, volleyball net and swing area. Then passing their goat stable area before approaching the cute little office was definitely a nice feel. The swimming pool area has a patio eating area above it which was cool and areas for a bbq during warmer seasons. The lady there (the owner) checked us in and was very sweet, welcoming and helpful. She showed us maps of where to hike, a list of places to eat etc. Hubby and I decided to take a stroll to check out the farm, it was perfect timing as it was feeding time. The owner and her husband was again welcoming and gave us a little history, information and updates about their beautiful goats. How old they were, how a fee were just born yesterday etc. They answered all the questions were asked. They were just a pleasant and lovely couple. Not to also say, great management of their property! Getting into our room, I didn't have much expectations after seeing so many horrible pics of other nearby hotel/motels. I depended on fellow yelper reviews of this place and boy do I thank them. This place was perfect!!! Not a 5-star hotel/motel but the most coziest and definitely a very clean one which is super important to me!! I have sensitive skin and this place made me feel like home. We got a king size bed but they have 2 dorm size sofa beds that totally fits 2 more guest!! (See attached pics). They have a microwave and fridge in the room that are also clean and works! Very convenient as i snack a lot all day. Bed is clean and no stains. No itch or bed bugs! Thank God! Bathroom is well kept and towels are relatively new and very clean. Heater works well and is quiet. Only downfall is shower stall is a tad small and maybe claustrophobic for some bigger peeps but its doable (see attached pics). Another one is water pressure is a bit low and water does take a min to warm up but when it does, it does get nice and hot which is super nice. They have cable, yay! Wifi can be spotty at times though but oh well. Getting used to it as its better than no service when your in the park. Breakfast is simple but enough to get you started on your day. But if it doesn't suit your needs, they have many restaurants nearby. Their breakfast consisting of: -Bagels, granola, instant oatmeal packs, fresh fruits -coffee k-cups, teas, hot cocoa and canned juices All in all, LOVE this place!! Has a little bit of everything and did I say, clean!! Very kid friendly and for groups! As they have some rooms (A&B) attached rooms that have a kitchen in between the room A&B. Stayed here one night while visiting Sequoia NP. Nice motel close to restaurants and the Slick Rock Recreation Area which I recommend. There's no access to the river from the motel but there's a pool, volleyball net and sheep/goats to see. Room was clean with fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Shower only. We absolutely LOVED this place. It's just down the street from the south entrance to Sequoia National Park. We stayed at a cabin and it was so cute. There's a kitchen with a fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, sink, range, and a set of table and chairs. Two queen beds which were comfortable enough for the night, and a small bathroom. There was also a couch, lounge chair, and TV. I also loved the blinds on the windows because you just pull them or lift them and they stay! Looking outside the window, we could see the sheep at the ranch, and they were so calm! We were also treated to some wild turkeys in the morning, which was cool! It's just a short walk down to the Kaweah River, and made for some great photographs. Breakfast is available from 8am-9pm (that's a long breakfast!) and consists of pastries, bagels, and oatmeal. They also have granola bars and hot chocolate. They have free wifi, but the signal is spotty at night (we were in cabin #4). Service was top-notch, and checking in and out was a breeze! Just got home today and miss the ranch already . This place is cozy and beautiful . Would stay at this hotel over Paris in Vegas any day . I was worry that the bed would be dirty and infested with bed bugs thanks to the other yelps review . I brought sleeping bags for my family just in case . I didn't need it at all . The bed was clean and the room was inviting and gosh I love the river bed behind the property . They serve breakfast and offer great coffee . Yum ! Dog Friendly! My spouse and I plus 2 dogs had a recent very nice stay. The grounds are immaculate, rooms are very nice with air conditioning unit and kitchenette. Within 8 miles of entrance to Sequoia National Park and 3 Rivers to cool off with the dogs. Lake close by for boat rentals. Good food choices close by on the road toward the National Park. Lazy J is so cute ...our room was basically clean. This is a great place for families. We had stayed many years ago and liked it. We stayed in room 17. There is a lot of potential here. I would pay more for details like...blinds that open and close, door locks that work, weatherstripping under the door so there is not space open under the door, cleaning the pool area so you can enjoy the space. The beds were okay and the AC worked okay. Fine for a night. Close to slick rock and sequoia entrance. read more

The location is amazing and the little villas are quaint and welcoming. It's not the Ritz Carlton, but the service is super friendly and accommodating. The place is clean and well stocked. I was thoroughly impressed with the booking process, the kindness of the staff, and the spacious rooms. I would highly recommend this to someone, who is looking to stay close to Sequoia NP and wants a place to relax and play in the pool after a day at the park. A little piece of heaven. This isn't a luxurious spot but it maintains a cozy charm. Front desk staff is helpful and the continental breakfast is pretty rad too. Gives you a chance to meet some of your neighbors while sharing a cup of coffee. They have a great collection of movies for the whole family. We had a nice get away here. It was quiet and safe from Covid since the little houses are all far away from each other. Rooms are very clean and well air conditioned. There are small refrigerators and microwaves as well as Keurig coffee makers. We enjoyed the cute goats and the pool! The best part was walking to the river in the back and swimming all afternoon!
