I booked a reservation here about three weeks before the dinner would take place, then found out that my wife's orders got hastened and had to cancel 2 weeks prior. Got told everything would be ok and they would cancel and no charges would be sent. Stoneacre Garden has afternoon tea for $35 a person and it was one of the best ones i've been to (and I've been to a lot)! You receive a menu that shows everything you'll be getting. First you get to pick your choice of tea and it comes out in your own personal tea pot. We had a party of 4 and got 2 three-tiered servers. The top layer had scones with jam, butter, and cream options. The second layer had a cucumber sandwich, salmon and cream cheese sandwich, deviled eggs, veggies with hummus and ranch, and a croissant filled with chicken salad. The last tier was an assortment of fruit, greek yogurt and strawberry, two kinds of loaves, mini brownies, and macaroons. I personally tried everything even if it wasn't a food I would typically love, and everything was truly so yummy. Unfortunately, our experience at this establishment got ruined by the owner himself, Christopher. My friends and I were there for a bachelorette dinner and were all super excited to be there; everything was great until our entrees came out. My friend got an 8oz steak, and was asked pink or no pink for the temp; she asked for pink, and it came out extremely well done, so we politely asked for a recook, where the server said no problem and was happy to take care of it. The owner then came over to our table, and immediately became defensive and was being quite rude over the steak, swearing it was cooked perfectly and not allowing us to get a word in. He then had the audacity to go to the kitchen, bring out "the steak she was eating" when it absolutely was a completely different steak (half the steak was gone and the asparagus was cut up where none of that besides 1 bite of steak was gone from my friends plate), and pulled out a flashlight to prove that the steak was cooked correctly. We had all told him that the plate he brought out was not the steak we had gotten, and on top of him continuing to argue with us, he asked if she wanted to keep that plate; knowing it wasn't our plate, we had him make her a new one. A few minutes later, he brought out a fresh new plate, where the steak was precut to show us that it was cooked correctly, which is ridiculous because the steak prior came whole. Besides that unfortunate event, everything was fantastic; the appetizers, drinks, and rest of the food was great and our server was so amazing. The service was okay but not great. Since I was impressed with the first drink I had, I wanted to try another and asked for a drink menu. Unfortunately, the server did not come back until it was time for the check. I would not say that it was particularly busy, but definitely felt a little ignored. My bf and I had an 8:30 pm reservation for dinner at Stoneacre Garden! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and he got the short rib. My pulled pork sandwich wasn't bad, but his short rib was borderline inedible. It was extremely dry and bland, so he barely ate half of it. We would highly recommend against it. Although the asian twist to the menu was unique, it was poorly executed. The atmosphere is very nice, well decorated and offers a lovely view, service was good, but it can get very loud if they have an event going on and the food is mediocre at BEST. We had a couple cocktails, Crispy Fried Chicken Wings that were served with a Sweet Soy, Bleu Cheese and Buffalo dipping sauce (which I personally hate when establishments do this, it's so hard to dip your chicken in those tiny dishes and you don't get the flavor) and we also had and order of Crab Rangoons... they were cold, and tasted just okay. Stopped by for Brunch because it was close to our hotel and they have a beautiful outside terrace. We had the berry cooler brunch cocktail which was perfect for a hot day. Not super sweet which is how I like it. We tried the chicken and waffles and chickpea veggie burger. Chicken and waffles was a bit dry and could have been seasoned more. But k loved the chickpea veggie burger. The harisa sauce gave it a good flavor without being spicy. I added home fries to mine which were great. Situated on the outskirts of the Brick Marketplace in Newport, this restaurant has a carnival feel to it with it's brightly lit "FUN" sign hanging by the entrance. It's an easy place to pass by and wonder "what's in there?" Last night, my husband and I made reservations to see what it was all about. Upon entering, we became immersed in a "garden" of ivy and hanging plants. It was decorated beautifully. We were seated near the bar area and our server, Angelina, impressed us with her personable small talk, attention to detail, and quick service. Adorable little pub. We got a Guinness and espresso martini and loved sitting for an hour or so. They also had some great oysters but no hot sauce. I ate 4/6 of my oysters because they were huge. I took my parents and my boyfriend and his parents to Stoneacre Garden after strolling around Newport. We went sometime between the typical lunch and dinner rush. There were not a lot of full tables in the section we were in. We ordered our food from a waiter who was not very friendly and welcoming. We ordered a couple of appetizers including the Shrimp Chips and Crab Dip and the General Tso's Cauliflower. Both were really good! We then went on to order our meals from the same not-so-friendly waiter. I ordered the Grilled Steak Bowl and my boyfriend and his father ordered the Iberico Katsu Pork. The pork did not come out with the Katsu sauce on it and we were shocked that the pork was $28 and did not come with a substantial side (I think it came with a small pile of cabbage slaw). They felt like they were bothering their waiter when they asked for the Katsu sauce, but they regretted even asking because it was not great Katsu sauce. As for my grilled steak bowl, it was basically like a stir fry that I could have made at home, it was not worth the $32 price tag. That being said, this restaurant is in Newport, so you have to anticipate the higher prices on food. After we ate, we paid the bill and were relaxing at the table for a bit. The restaurant is open from 10am-6pm on Sundays according to Google. We figured it would be ok to stay at the table for a little and chat after our meal since there really weren't any full tables. I saw the waiter that had been helping us walk over to the lighting and starting turning on and off the lights in our section. If the restaurant was busy and full, we obviously wouldn't have stayed and taken up a table. I also always try to be polite and kind to waitstaff or retail workers anywhere I go because I had those jobs before and I know how much it can wear on you! After the lights were being turned off on us, we didn't feel welcome at that point and we left. I hate to give negative reviews because I love this state, I love small businesses, and I love showcasing the restaurants, but I can't in good faith give a glowing review of this restaurant. The food was mediocre and not worth the Newport price tag and the waiter was the worst waiter I've had in a long time. I'd hate to see what they would have done to a full table of people who were not as kind and easy going about it as we all were. read more

First of all Matt our waiter was awesome. This was one of the better experiences I have had dining because of the pacing of each course. The first course was the Miso soup, great flavor, seaweed was a nice bright green and the strips were huge. The tofu also had a nice silky texture. Next was the Green tail specialty roll . I thought the peppers on top would be too spicy but when ate together the flavors blend perfectly. Especially with the wasabi, best wasabi's I have had with sushi in any local restaurant. Just wish they had more of it on the plate. Next course was the chicken wings , which I loved were all drums expect one. It comes with 3 dipping sauces sweet soy, blue cheese and Buffalo sauce . I loved combining the Buffalo and the blue cheese together. The wings were also a nice size, crispy but not greasy. Our last course was the steak Freitas . Steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly and so were the fries . I did not have to add any more salt or pepper to my meal, which is very rare for me. The fries were so good I didn't even want to each them with ketchup. Finally I love that this place is dog friendly! I would recommend this business for atmosphere alone. It is very pretty inside. You feel like you're almost at a vineyard. Staff was friendly and the food was good. The avocado toast was probably the best I've ever had and the salad that it was served with was absolutely delicious. Parking was pretty tough. The closest lot was three dollars for every 30 minutes. Little things that I notice and tend to lean towards a mediocre review are when appetizers are served and plates are not on the table. We had to ask two different staff members to bring the plates. It finally showed up 10 minutes later. We were there for a brunch for a bachelorette party. Our party consisted of 16 people. I get it can be a little chaotic, but plates on the table to me should be simple. I will give this another shot for sure. read more

Came here for brunch with friends. It's a huge restaurant that is nicely decorated. We all got cocktails (I loved the espresso martini) and the cinnamon bun was delicious. The brunch entrees were average, I'd say. The lobster eggs benedict was a favorite and came with a massive portion of lobster. I tried the salmon toast and while it was good, it was a bit bland and the toast was too hard. The breakfast sandwich was decent but also bland. The service was lacking -- our waitress was nice but came rarely and I felt our table was avoided despite being in a fairly central spot. A couple of friends and I went to this restaurant after walking around Newport during a day trip. We had not planned in advance with a reservation for any particular restaurant. When we went up to the reception, the hostess took town our phone number and name and told us that because of the wait we would have to wait a few minutes. I wasn't particularly surprised since it was a sunny Saturday and we hadn't made a reservation in advance. At this point in the day it was around early afternoon (possibly around 2pm). After looking around the area near the restaurant for a little while, we received word that there was a table for our group and we proceeded to the restaurant. When we first sat down, we were given menus and then the waitstaff left. We sat, and then proceeded to continue to wait for an extended period of time. When the staff came and took our drink and food orders, I ordered Rose Hill Heirloom Tomato Salad and a side of fries. Two of my other friends ordered the BLT which on the physical (paper) menu stated it came with fries. Besides it being a very long wait for our food, the drinks never arrived. When the food did arrive, we cancelled the drinks and had some of the food. I enjoyed the tomato salad and thought it was well done. The corn and burrata tasted fresh and it was exactly what I expected. While I was eating this, I noticed that the fries I ordered did not arrive with the rest of our food. My friends' BLTs did not come with fries as expected and so they asked about it at the same time I asked about my side of fries. The waiter brought over fries for their dish but ended up charging them extra, and the side of fries I asked about did not come! In sum, we did not receive our drinks, I did not receive everything I ordered, my friends did not receive the fries that came with their dish until they asked (and they were charged extra), and the wait for our food was extremely long. I do not enjoy giving bad reviews of a restaurant, and I hope that other people have better stories to share of this restaurant! read more

Let me start by saying the biscuit with honey butter and sea salt is the star of this review. I've eaten biscuits up and down the southeastern coast for decades - homemade, fast food, fine dining...and this is the best biscuit I've ever had (sorry, Nanny!) Today my girlfriend and I visited Newport from CT and AZ respectively to celebrate our 3 year anniversary, and were disappointed beyond belief. Then it came time to order our mains, in which we both ordered the steak frites, medium rare. Our waitress then came back and told us that we could order "pink or not pink". Second red flag. Finally, the food came and oh my god was it awful. Flavour non-existent. You could get more flavour licking your own sweaty skin and the bottom of your worn out shoes than that steak. It was lukewarm at best and was noticeably a reheated steak. I felt like I relived an episode of Gordon ramsay's "Hell's Kitchen". Sure there were grill lines, but they may as well have tattooed that onto the meat considering the lack of charred texture. Bland does not even put into words how plain this was. Arrived at around 4pm on a drizzly Sunday afternoon to find ourselves at a very quiet time for the restaurant (appeared to have less than 10 other groups) which was perfect as we were quite tired from walking around the Newport Mansions. My party of 4 were quickly seated in a front windowed corner of the restaurant with full view of the dining room and promptly provided our menus. We were a bit confused since they provided 3 brunch menus and 1 regular service menu, but upon confirmation of the waitress we could only order from the brunch menu. When our food arrived, it was obvious that the order was incorrect (one order had the wrong fries, one order was missing sauce listed on the menu, and one order had the wrong main entree). We understood that mistakes happen, but when someone in my party questioned whether their entree was correct, the waitress decided to defend themselves saying they "input it correctly" only to realize they didn't. When also questioned about the lack of sauce, the waitress also tried to argue stating that it's probably hiding somewhere in the chicken sandwich. Upon lifting the bun, it was very apparent there was none whatsoever and the waitress tried to blame it on the "boys in the kitchen". Both instances felt unprofessional. Acceptable responses would have been "let me double check that for you" or "that's our bad, let me fix that for you" instead of the arguing that ensued. In between being served, our waitress was nowhere to be seen (despite being able to have full view of the restaurant). Overall, the food itself was good but nothing I would seek out again should I find myself in the area. I personally had a chicken sandwich and felt that although the flavors were there, the chicken was a bit dry. The parking lot adjacent to the restaurant is paid parking and cash only. read more

Service was very slow despite an almost empty restaurant. 5 appetizers came out in 10 minute intervals, when I did get my meal, the fries were cold, the rest of the food was mediocre at best. I returned to the hostess stand and asked the woman for his name..she said "NO, I AM NOT GOING TO TELL YOU HIS NAME!! " I said "OMG ,you are kidding!" she said "NO I am NOT telling you".. I asked the bartender and another waiter who would NOT tell me his name...FINALLY I found a waiter who asked if he could help make it right and told me the managers name is ADAM ! For the first time in my life, I sent food back. Here's that story: My family and I are just speechless. We came here to stop on a day trip to RI after touring Newport all day. We saw that the restaurant was a bit secluded from the rest of the attractions, and we liked this as we generally enjoy a more quiet atmosphere when dining. We were seated right away and given water. We should've known to turn around right then, as the water was DISGUSTING. It tasted like chlorine, with maybe with a mixture of toilet water, and was warm. Ew. We didn't think much of it at the time, and proceeded to order our meals. The menu was very limited. We ordered a BLT sandwich, general Tso chicken, and general tso cauliflower. The chicken was eh, a bit weirdly discolored inside. The cauliflower was just plain weird, and not what you'd expect. It was a bowl of straight up cauliflower. But the worst of all was the BLT. I took one bite of the sandwich and instantly lost my appetite. The bacon was so burnt and fat that it was impossible to even bite off. The vegetables were so dry, and I was surprised that the "lettuce" was actually mixed greens that weren't even green they were purple (borderline black). I didn't touch the tomato, couldn't even look at the sandwich anymore. Oh, and to top it all off (quite literally) the bread was burnt! I have always been an understanding customer, with lots of respect to the food industry, but this restaurant was the first to make me lose my appetite. On my way to the bathroom earlier, I happened to pass the kitchen. None of the chefs were wearing gloves, and it appeared to be very disorganized. For the first time in my life, I actually sent the food back. It was plain old inedible. The waitress was not very apologetic, but took the meal off the tab. We ended up still paying for 2/3 dishes, and left a tip. It's really not her fault. Just bad luck. Save your time at Newport and enjoy another restaurant on the block. read more

Tina's take 10/10 This place is beautiful and amazing. It's such an open floor concept which is beautifully decorated. The waitress we had was so nice and helpful. The coffee they give u was delicious as well. We came here for brunch and the drinks were strong. The oysters we had first were really good (they didn't give horseradish). The restsurant itself has a nice ambience but it felt like there was no AC the night we were there...on a hot summer night. We were all a little uncomfortable from the heat. The food was so-so - bang bang lobster wasn't bad but some of my friends got the green curry which they said was pretty disappointing. We ordered a bottle of sake with dinner and it was not brought out on ice like usual and they forgot to provide cups to pour it into. I'm not sure if they've just hired a lot of new staff for the summer but no one seemed to know what was going on and our order took forever to come. We had to ask several times for certain items we had ordered since they were forgotten, as well as for water. Service was just incredibly slow - even bringing the check - and we ended up missing part of the next event on our itinerary. The server was friendly and checked on us. We were full from a late lunch earlier in the day so we just wanted to sit and have something small. Honestly, we didn't see any small plates that we really wanted. I ended up choosing the ahi tuna tacos. It was good, the tuna tasted really good. It was a perfect snack for me. My husband ordered the salmon tuna roll. It was small 8 pieces. He ordered the Tokyo Vesper cocktail and I ordered the Meanwhile in Bangkok. Mines was strong, and it tasted pretty good. We have not been here before and wanted to give it a try. We are glad we did! Our waiter was helpful, friendly and gave us the right amount of attention. We ordered Shrimp tempura sushi and it was outstanding. For entrees we ordered shrimp skewers and miso salmon. Both were flavorful, delicious and with good portions. The shrimp skewers had 8 jumbo shrimp- which meant I could enjoy one as well! read more
