Shrimp and Nduja Dumplings and Shrimp Kataifi

Overall, a solid place to grab an elevated bite to eat. I came with a friend on a Thursday at lunchtime and there was plenty of seating. The location was formerly Pasta Beach and the interior/decor remains very similar. To order, our hostess/waitress Camryn gave us a paper menu in which we used a stamp to indicate what items we want to order. The restaurant is BYOB and the drinks listed are all non-alcoholic. We ordered a Mexican coke and Mr. R's Highball. Both were delicious and refreshing. For small plates we ordered: Risotto Cake, Shrimp Kataifi, Prosciutto Croquette, French Onion Dumplings and Shrimp and Nduja Dumplings. Everything came out hot, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Everything was delicious, so picking a favorite was hard. When it came time for dessert, the options weren't listed on the paper menu. In fact, the online menu had options that weren't available. Another waitstaff came over - James - and we told him about the discrepancy. Luckily, he is the head of beverages so hopefully the dessert milkshake will be offered soon! The two dessert options available we ordered: the "Takoyaki" and Matcha-Misu. The name "takoyaki"is misleading because it definitely does not contain "tako" or octopus. The preparation is similar, but more reminiscent of the Japanese snack/dessert "dango" as they come on a stick. Regardless, IT WAS DELICIOUS. The "tiramisu" was interesting. I liked the matcha cream, but the coffee flavor was too strong for me. There might still be growing pains with the menu and I would recommend including a knife with the table setting, but overall 5/5 stars! I will be coming back!

Mr. R looks like an unassuming spot from the outside, but they have good food inside. Got the shrimp sausage dumplings, Asian BBQ sauce ribs, and the lamb skewers. The dumplings were delicious - a good mix of spice and flavor. The ribs were amazing; the meat was tender and fell off the bone. The lamb was very flavorful - a bit chewy but good with the yogurt sauce. Oolong tea was lovely. Overall, it was a very good experience; it's BYOB, but they have mock-tails and teas. Service was great.

I stopped by Mr. R for the first time ever as part of the RI Food Fights Tacomania event. This place was located a little bit away from the main tourist area of Newport but well within walking range. The restaurant was quiet, but began to fill up after I arrived. The server was nice and took the time to explain the menu and how to place an order; they give you a stamp that you use to make your selection. I ordered the pork tacos with oolong tea. The tacos were amazing, and I ended up ordering a couple more. The manager was nice and told me they plan on participating in more RI Food Fights events, which is great! I highly recommend this place and will return.

The food was amazing. I love how small and intimate the space is. The waitstaff was very friendly and welcoming. I will continue to go until I've tried everything on the menu. I will definitely be a repeat customer

Decided to do our own taste of Newport experience and we're so grateful we put Mr. R as one of our stops. The inside has a hip, fun vibe...sort of upscale diner meets chill cafe! We enjoyed small plates with generous servings of calamari, roasted Brussel sprouts with Gorgonzola, fried risotto, and pork dumplings. They were all delicious. It's BYOB so that was a bonus. Our waiter was so welcoming and helpful. Definitely coming back next time we're in Newport.

Such a cute restaurant and great concept!! My husband and I went for dinner on our last night in Newport. We had eaten so much seafood that we were looking for something different. Mr. R's did not disappoint. We decided to just try some of the small plates rather than ordering whole meals. We ordered 4 small plates to start and ended up ordering a fifth because everything was so good!! Our favorites were the Nduja Dumplings and the Prosciutto Croquettes but everything we ordered was delicious. Service was fast and the staff was wonderful.

The chicken satay with peanut sauce was excellent...generously sized chicken skewers with very tasty slight sweet peanut sauce. The Crab Rangoon was also excellent. My friend is more of fan of these than I am and didn't plan on eating more than one, but these were so flavorful and crispy...maybe the best crab Rangoon I've had. The Vietnamese Boon with beef lemongrass was great! I loved that the beef was cut into small pieces/shreds. The beef had so much flavor there was almost no need to add the sweet/sour sauce to the noodles. The sweet/sour sauce was excellent too. I would have liked a bit more cilantro on the boon, but that 's my personal preference. I can't comment on the decor/ambiance because my friend went in to get the take out order. The street it is located on is very small/narrow so I had to stay in the car in case I needed to move it (since I was blocking the street). The pick up was so quick I didn't need to move the car.

The chicken satay was excellent. Very juicy and flavorful. If the same chicken was in my ramen, I probably would give this place a five star review. The curry ramen was filled with a spicy flavorful broth and a healthy serving of accoutrements but the chicken was very dry. Given that was my only complaint and the woman who served me was extremely gracious, mountain moose earns my recommendation. Note, if you're looking for massamam curry, just go to a Thai restaurant.

They have a…read morevariety of soups, noodles, meat and vegetable based dishes so we are always trying something new here! The staff are kind and food comes out in a timely manner. The restaurant has a very calming atmosphere inside and while small, even has outdoor seating. Drinks/apps: we always start off with Thai iced teas, these are a must. They are sweet but not overly so, and go very well with any dish you order. We also love the spring rolls, mango fresh rolls, and our favorite, the curry puffs. They are flakey and filled with sweet/savory vegetable flavors. Of course we also get the edamame because it's a nice little snack. Entrees: my current favorite is the malay noodle soup, it comes out steaming hot and is so creamy and filling. There is plenty of beef and wonderful steamed broccoli that soaks up the flavor of the soup. I also love the Rad Na, which is an assortment of steamed vegetables in a gravy-like curry. This one is perfect for colder months, since it really warms you up. My bf has gotten various curries and the vermicelli trio which he has enjoyed very much as well. Dessert: we haven't tried any dessert here because we end up getting so full from the other dishes! Each time we go I anticipate that I will need to be carried out, because I will probably go into a food coma. TL;DR: For those visiting Newport, do not pass up trying this place if you're not in the mood for the overwhelming amount of seafood restaurants located here. You can't really go wrong with any dish, make sure to get Thai iced teas and you will leave really full and happy :)

Crispy spring rolls A+, Asian chicken wings A+, Beef and chicken drunken noodles A+. My advice: 1. ask for extra sauce for the chicken wings. Note that they are really big wings...this is a shareable appetizer. 2. The crispy spring rolls are incredible. A single order is four small rolls. 3. Their drunken noodles are packed with meat and vegetables. We ask for extra noodles to balance it out. We highly recommend this place. We travel on our boat full time, so once we find our favorite spots, we crave them. Thai cuisine is a place we love!

The focus here is ramen, with a small lineup of appetizers and a surprisingly good selection of sakes by the glass or bottle (not just the little cans you see elsewhere). We started with the salted potatoes and then moved on to ramens, which was rich, comforting, and exactly what you want on a cold night. And a BIG portion. They can prepare many items gluten free, and if you're unsure about your spice tolerance, you can get the chili oil on the side, which is a nice touch. Overall, a very nice meal and I'd definitely recommend it.

This was what ramen was made for. I walked in feeling (and looking) like Jack Frost. Only the brave were venturing about, so the restaurant was minimally packed and we were seated immediately. Szechuan cauliflower? Yes please. I would come back here for that cauliflower alone and order three servings of it. It was perfectly crispy and smothered in spicy sauce. The miso ramen broth was flavorful and spicy. Just what I was looking for. They used brown rice noodles which had a consistency that I would describe as slightly clumpy and with a different taste than traditional noodles. The rest of the toppings were as expected. The interior was very well decorated and felt upscale. It was a nice experience dining here.
