They serve excellent food which tends to be healthier. not a greasy spoon and your body will love that. they use no trans-fats( i asked the owner) in any of the food so feel free to try the baked goods too. i had some of their food at a catered party, that food was also excellent YUMMY!!!! read more

Went there 2x this past week for the seafood bisque. The first time it was yummy, but there were a few shrimp tails (not attached to the shrimp) in the soup! Yuck, not a nice surprise when eating soup. Decided to give them a second try. I called in and ordered a bowl of bisque. When I arrived they had a cup and not a bowl ready for me. I pointed this out and nothing was done. Sadly, there were shrimp tails in my bisque again, so I guess it is better to have had a cup size than bowl size. Also the quiche I ordered- which they microwave to order- was still cold. Won't be going again anytime soon. read more

At first I was pretty impressed with these guys but after a few annoyances I'm definitely disappointed. For some reason I expected a place like this to be all homemade food, or at least have a few products locally sourced. I've seen a Deisings delivery truck stop here, so I assume they make the bagels, and the bagels are great, but they don't keep up on them. The selection dwindles as the week goes on, and I went on a monday and the only bagel they had for sale was the same lonely pumpernickel that they had on friday, which I assume was from the same order that came in a week before. I've also seen them get a Sysco delivery and I saw them deliver frozen cookie dough and a couple pies, so those aren't made from scratch. I had a cookie here once and it tasted stale. They bake a bunch at a time and wrap em in plastic and then they sit out for sale for god knows how long. Same with their refridgerated bakery case, I've seen slices of pie and cake sit in there for up to a week. I've had a few good cupcakes though, so those are one thing that's worth getting. I'll take a break from the bad for a minute to talk about something good. They do make a pretty damn good breakfast sandwich. The bacon on it is great, and the scrambled eggs are perfect. and they use a nice sharp cheddar too. If you get them on a bagel they are too filling, but if you go with a hard roll then you'll still have room in a few hours for lunch. ok back to the bad stuff. One day I went in and it looked a little smokey inside and it smelled really bad, kinda like burnt popcorn. And I've smelled it once every day or two when I'm outside in the neighborhood, I have no idea what it is they're cooking but I'd stay away from it. The final straw that made me not want to go back was that recently they forgot part of my order. When I reminded them that I didn't get my food they yet it was brought out within a few minutes but I could tell that it was just reheated in the microwave, the texture was just awful. I barely ate any of it, I trashed it and then went over to the rite aid for a better morning snack, so steer clear of anything you see in their display case when you come in. all in all, you can expect some pretty decent food but other items can be a huge miss and not fresh. the people here are friendly enough but they need to pay a little more attention and quit cutting corners. 2.5 out of 5 read more

If we could give more stars we would! We used Stone Soup Food Company to cater our wedding in June this year. We cannot say enough good about the service, food and prices. Steve & Gwen are fantastic (Linda the coordinator too!) and clearly care about the product quality, service and each customer that they serve. They were patient, accommodating and SO FLEXIBLE! We are not divas in any way but, it was our wedding so it was extremely important to us that our guests really enjoy the food so I'm sure there were moments that we were PITAS :). Everyone raved about every item served! Gwen is so thoughtful and very sweet, she was by far the biggest help during our wedding preparation. She does not miss a detail! Our menu was served buffet style outside at the Senate House Grounds (outdoor only). It can't be easy to make this happen so flawlessly but, Steve, Gwen & Linda did and made it look easy! Included - hummus & grape leaves (to die for hummus!), shrimp (everyone was raving about these all day), crudites (including roasted red peppers - YUMMY!), Tri-tip steak at a carving station manned by Steve (another item that everyone raved about all day long!), blackened cat fish & Chicken Marsala. Even the side dishes were rave worthy - roasted vegetable stacks (little stacks of heaven), garlic roasted potatoes and green beans - every bite was fantastic. Desert was a small wedding cake (so delicious! white cake, strawberries & lemon curd filling) it was beautiful! We also had pastries (fresh chocolate chip cookies & creme brulee cheesecakes) We also had a small kids menu of chicken fingers, hot dogs & mac and cheese. The mac & cheese was another item that people could not get enough of! You will not be disappointed if you choose Stone Soup to cater your event. Cannot say enough good about the experience with Steve, Gwen and every member of their staff. Food was ok. Got a Mac & cheese wait was long. No organization. Very expensive. For a very small portion was 8$. The food it's self was ok but the menu didn't specify it was baked mac&cheese. Lots of plants. & no one cleaning tables as people finished and left. Smells bad in there my clothes and hair smell like mold. read more

I really enjoy stone soup and would consider it one of my favorite places to eat. The main reason that I eat here is because it's just about the healthiest option besides actually making something myself, also they manage to keep all of their food incredibly fresh, and they have delicious daily specials and wraps. I've never ordered something from Stone Soup and had it taste stale or seem oldish. Lunch from here usually runs around $10 which I think is cheap for the type of unique food that you can find. How could I have been living and working in the Kingston NY area without knowing about Stone Soup?? Met a friend there for lunch today and was blown away by all of the wonderful soups, salads, veggies and baked goods. I was very impressed with the abundance of fresh offerings and the incredible array of Gluten-Free choices. I ended up buying dinner to take home, as well (in a compost-friendly container!). As a treat, I grabbed the chocolate "bomb" and enjoyed this perfect morsel in the car on the way back to work. I met the owner, Gwen, when she came by to inquire if lunch was ok, and found her to be friendly, knowledgeable (she more than tolerated my gluten-free interrogation) and passionate about the food she serves. I was introduced to this place by co-workers while on a business trip to Kingston. I had high hopes and expectations. As I viewed the menu, I was excited to try their entrees. I ordered the roast pork loin - however, I didn't know it was pre-made and sitting in the fridge section by the counter. Needless to say, my entree was prepared by staff taking a few pieces of pre-sliced pork and microwaving my food. This is not the type of establishment I had envisioned. I work in the area and walk over to grab lunch from time-to-time. I love the quality of the food! Home-cooked. Also, the staff is always very friendly. I have seen some 'negative' reviews due to the time it takes to get food. Yes, it takes longer than the drive-through at McDonalds. But I only get 40 minutes for lunch, and between walking there, ordering, eating, and walking back to work, I have time to spare. I guess the fast-paced world people want everything immediately. If I am in a hurry I go online first to look up the menu and call ahead, then just walk in and pick up. I'll usually show up when I want to meet my husband for lunch and we have a mini date in the middle of the day. I have also ordered cakes and they were delicious - and as a self-identified ingredient snob I eat here happily. read more

I work long hours during the week and I rarely have time to cook. It makes me upset because I hate eating out. I'd rather enjoy some home cooking. I normally do what's familiar when I eat out because if I don't like something I feel I've wasted my money on what could've been spent on a hot dog or a slice of pizza. I was convinced to try Stone Soup for lunch on day. My first choice was her famous seafood bisque, which is to die for. After that I was hooked. Everyday I anticipate checking her menu online for what soups and other delicious things she going to serve. Both my parents were Chefs. My mother graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and my father a foreigner from Sicily had owned and worked in certain restaurants in the Hudson Valley area. So I consider myself a natural "foodie" and can give a great heads up on what's good and what's not as far as taste goes. But hands down I have tasted some of the best food in my life at this place. It may be a small cafe type store but her cooking is worthy of a much bigger crowd. I'm so grateful for her spot because I stroll 2 doors down from my job, when I didn't bring lunch or don't wanna cook at home, and don't feel like I cheated myself from a home cooked meal. Oh and by the way, I've tasted things I've never even heard of before and begged her to make it again. My personal favorite is her Mulligatawny (curried chicken soup) and any Asian soup or cuisine she makes which I had both of today. She also bakes a large variety of the most delicious desserts. (Had my first dessert with noddles it) forgot what it was called but it taste like bread pudding (delicious). Let me preface this by saying that I've worked in food service for many years and I really hate to complain about anything given that I know it can be tough. That being said, after contacting the owner to express my dismay with their apathetic and slow service and poor quality food for a high price only to be ignored, well, here's how my experience went. On dec 7 I called to order a pastrami Ruben at 11:38. I was told to hold and informed that it was busy and it would be an hour and a half. I said it was fine, I had been wanting to try stone soup for a while and being 8 months pregnant and having an empty fridge, I was excited to finally have a reason to splurge and order a nice lunch. I was asked what I wanted and then told to hold again. When the phone was picked back up I was informed that my order couldn't be completed because the delivery minimum was $10. I found it strange that I was being told I couldn't order as opposed to being asked what else I'd like but I took it upon myself to just add sweet potato fries even though it seemed like she didn't want to place my order. I waited patiently until 1:50pm when my food finally arrived. The delivery guy was pleasant and I was excited to finally eat. I was extremely disappointed that not only was this the absolute most greasy sandwich I'd ever gotten, it came with cold, soggy fries and I had to remove half the meat due to it being pure fat. My dog was quite happy, as he loved eating the huge chunks of fat, but I was not so pleased. It was almost like someone chopped up the end of the meat where all the fat is and used that to make my sandwich. The bread was so greasy that I had a really bad stomach ache for the rest of the day. For a $13 lunch I expect more. I don't expect to be pretty much made to feel as though my business isn't wanted, then being told to wait an hour and a half and then waiting the better part of 2 hours (even though I live 5 min from the place) only to be brought subpar food that made me queasy and then ignored when I give the business a chance to make up for their mistake instead of writing a review.
