Ever since Stone Fox threw a really fun Yelp event here last year, I have kept it in mind for beauty services. I had a great stylist at another place, but when she moved away, I knew I had to give Stone Fox a proper try. I remembered Jackie as being incredibly friendly and talented, but since she wasn't taking new clients, was referred to Alexis. Alexis is fantastic. Easy to talk to and she gave me just the haircut I was looking for. I get a really nice family vibe from Stone Fox. They all seem to get along but also treat their customers like family - in a good way! I love that their products are all natural and organic. I have no problem getting appointments quickly and at times that work for me. They have a super convenient parking lot, too, which is AWESOME for the East Side. I highly recommend this place and Alexis, in particular. read more

After my former stylist moved away, several friends recommended Stone Fox, so I made an appointment with Sarah. I loved my haircut. I had had a bad experience previously with another stylist who razored my ends to hell, and Sarah said that we would work together to get my hair back to where it should be. And my cut was exactly what I wanted even though I had to go a bit shorter than I would have liked (to get rid of the bad razoring). Sarah and I talked through everything to try to determine what was best for me and my hair - I was a little nervous seeing someone new, but she was very patient with me and took the time that was necessary to make sure I was happy with everything. The brand of hair products that SF carries is amazing. Similar to Aveda, in that they're natural and mostly organic, but they do so much more for my hair than Aveda ever could (and one of the shampoo/conditioner types smells like Thin Mints. THIN MINTS, people). I should probably mention that everyone at SF is super friendly, and that I've always had good interactions with everyone at the salon. I'm glad I made the switch! read more

During a Yelp event at this salon, I made an appointment for my first ever manicure and pedicure the following day. It was a fantastic experience! Jamie was extremely friendly without being overbearing or unprofessional. They've got a lot of different nail polish colors to choose from, and I chose a really beautiful black/green/gold sparkly color that looks a bit like outer space. The polish is also made out of natural ingredients. In all, I was there for about two hours, which is an awful lot of service for their very reasonable prices (tip: they give discounts to students and people in the service sector on weekdays). Jamie really listened to me when I told her that I have sensitive feet -- I never walk barefoot and don't really have any callouses, and I've heard horror stories from other people who've gone to different salons and had their skin basically scraped off (ouch!). Not a worry at Stone Fox -- the pedicure felt absolutely amazing, and there were so many good-smelling products involved! It also took place in a separate room, which was really nice, because who wants everyone to be looking at their feet? Great decor, fantastic staff, good prices, happy products -- who could ask for more? Highly recommended! read more

UPDATE: I gave this salon 3 stars immediately following my appointment, but upon further review they need to be downgraded. My hair grew in very unevenly and needed to be re-cut (elsewhere) sooner than I usually last between cuts. Their website lists a men's cut at $22 and up, and mine was $25 for whatever reason. After the tip, they ended up being pricier than everywhere except the high-end places, but the quality was only moderate. My stylist was friendly but I think the style itself was uninspired. It looked fine from the front but did not blend well toward the back. I believe part of their higher pricing is from the post-cut shampoo with essential oils, but the shampooing was lackluster and I certainly would have traded it for a minor discount. Overall, it was more expensive than almost everywhere I've been, and of lower quality than several places that were cheaper. read more

When I moved back to Milwaukee at the end of the summer I was terrified at the idea of finding a new hair stylist! It's usually a crap shoot, which is no fun when you are talking about your every-day look. I took a gamble on Jackie at Stone Fox and LOVED what she did. My hair is short, but I am in the process of growing it out. So I wanted shape added to the look without much of the length being taken off. She did a wonderful job of giving me exactly what I asked for. Plus, it's now been nearly 8 weeks since I went and the cut is growing out beautifully. Cuts start at $35, which some think is expensive for Milwaukee, but coming from Boston where good cuts are usually around $50, I was thrilled with the price. read more

I first went here for a last minute manicure and eyebrow wax with Jaime Ryan and she was great! Super friendly, and she fixed my nails when I smudged two of them before I even left. I just went back for a hair cut and color this past weekend with Jaime, and I couldn't be happier. I'm trying to grow out my hair, so she was careful about not cutting too much. The color is perfect! She listened to exactly what I wanted and made suggestions where appropriate. All the staff I have encountered there have been equally great, from the new girl at the front desk to the owner, Dan, via email. Their prices are also EXTREMELY reasonable, which certainly doesn't hurt! The fact that it's walkable from my house just seals the deal - I've found my new salon. read more

Stylist made remarks about not knowing what to do with my wavy/curly hair which became obvious when I received probably the worst cut and blowout I've ever received at a salon. Immediately had to go home and jump in the shower to try to salvage the mess she left. Will not be back. read more

This is the fastest I've ever jumped on yelp to give a review, but this place was so wonderful I wanted to review while I still remembered every fantastic detail of my experience. I will absolutely, 100% be returning back. While I only had a haircut today, I'm excited to go through their full menu and hopefully have a place (finally!) that I can go to for all of my beauty needs. The Details: Outside: They're located in the back corner of a big parking lot next to a beer mart or something. Pulling in I did get a teeny bit nervous, but the convenience of having a parking lot absolutely made up for, and was even better than having some trendy store front on a main road. Inside: Clean, fresh, and trendy but not at all over the top. Anyone could feel comfortable in the atmosphere they have set. There are salons that I love because they feel closed off, warm, and cozy. This is not that type of place, but it's not a bad thing. The space is very open, and bright, and I left feeling energized and ready to conquer the day. It was a great way to start my weekend. The lights while bright, aren't those harsh lights that can make you look scary while you're in front of the mirror. The wallpaper and color theme is really pretty, again, just very fresh. The one complaint I have, and I have of almost every salon I have ever been to, is the washing station. Somewhere out there, there HAS to be a chair/wash station that is actually comfortable. But again, I've never sat in a comfortable station before, so this doesn't effect my overall view of Stone Fox. Staff/Greeting: Walkin in, I was greeted by Dan who instead of asking how he could help me said, "Hi, you must be..." How lovely! It takes minimal effort to glance at the schedule to see the client due in next, but it seems like very few places care about those customer service pieces anymore. After the personal welcome, he shook my hand, introduced himself and then identified himself as the person I booked with the previous day. He then took my coat, showed me to the stylist who was ready for me and asked if he could bring me something to drink. This personal, thoughtful greeting was a wonderful start, and really made me feel like an appreciated customer. Stylist: I saw Jamie. When booking I had asked for someone who works well with thin, long hair, and she did a great job. She first sat me down in her chair to brush through and take a look at my hair, and ask me what I was looking for. It was great to have a consultation BEFORE I got shampooed. )I always wondered how stylists could effectively asses my wet hair having never seen it dry.) She was very friendly, asked questions to make sure she understood what I asked for and then took me over to the wash station and shampooed me herself. The raspberry shampoo used smelled amazing, Jamie explained the line and that they use all natural products. It wasn't the best shampoo, which is a little disappointing because I really love a good scrub/scalp massage. She did a mini neck message but it was only about 2 min and I was so uncomfortable in the chair I couldn't relax. Her 'chair-side' manner and cutting skills make up for it though. She was very easy to keep conversation with, which is really nice to pass the time for someone like me who hates sitting in a chair for too long. She kept her focus on me, which was nice. Sometimes stylists get wrapped up in convo with co-workers, or checking out what other clients are having done. It was nice to have a stylist stay focused on me, even if I wasn't getting something exciting done. She told me about the products she was putting in my hair, and blew my hair out with no followup from heat tools. I really appreciated this. Other salons have seemed to give up on using a brush to style the ends and just go for the flat iron, which my flat, pin straight, color damaged hair does not need. She also waited to trim my side bang until my hair was dry, and did some final cutting throughout my hair when dry as well. The result was bouncy, healthy looking hair. It is almost impossible to make my hair bounce! I couldn't be happier with her cut. Leaving: Dan, yet again, engaged me while I paid and asked me to fill out a customer contact card. I'm sure it probably just goes into a computer, and while I hate to think of the wasted paper, it is a nice touch. It does make you feel like they really care about you as a client. Turns out Dan is an owner, which makes me appreciate his wonderful customer service even more. Walking out, I felt like I was leaving a friends house. Everyone waved good-bye! Such a friendly, wonderful salon. I cannot wait to go back! This was the best salon experience I've had since I moved to Wisconsin, and it was the cheapest! My cut was only $37 and blew away cuts I paid over $50 for. If I can squeeze a mani-pedi into my schedule I'm going back this week. I will be back for color as well. I've been going to Jackie to get my hair done for over 15 years. I have thin, flat hair that she manages to make stylish every time. I seriously still get compliments months after she cuts/colors it. I visited Stone Fox Salon for the first time on Saturday and I was more than impressed. It's a clean, trendy, and fun atmosphere. I recommend a day of pampering...there's a separate room for all your needs including manicure, spa style pedicure and waxing. Look no further, this place has it all! read more

I love this Salon! Very friendly and a great price! I did my wedding hair here and got all four of my bridesmaids hair done here as well. The only qualm I have about that day was when I called to set up a trial run for my hair they receptionist said I didn't need one, because up do's are easy and it will be fine. I should have made one anyway!!! My hair didn't look anything like what I wanted for my wedding day, but I still looked beautiful and classy. Looking back on the pictures I think my hair looked even better than what I had in mind. All of the girls loved their hair as well and they were happy. My maid of honor was especially pleased with her hair and another bridesmaid made this her permanent salon. Jamie is my go to gal. She always does my hair exactly how I want it and it usually comes out even better. She makes great suggestions and makes my highlights look natural. Not to mention she is just a great person to be around! The pedicures here are defiantly great. My toenails stayed on for-ev-er. They didn't chip and the looked lovely. They seriously looked awesome for at least a month until my nails noticeably grew. It is still my favorite salon in Milwaukee for hair cuts and other details. I love how all of the employees and owner are down to earth. I hate being in Yuppie superficial Salons...I just like to be someplace where the people are real and provide quality service! Just got back from an eyebrow wax with Sarah. I had never been to Stonefox and hadn't heard of it before, but as I was searching and trying to get an appointment within the hour I stumbled across this little gem. Jackie had answered the phone when I called and had said she could get me in right away, therefore I put on my running shoes and ran there. Jackie had set me up with Sarah and I couldn't have asked for anyone better. Sarah was extremely professional, knowledgable and truly an expert in her field. Really really good. My normal place was completely booked up this week but I really wanted to get a trim before the holiday, so after hearing a lot of good things about this place, and given the fact that it's only a couple blocks from my apartment, I decided to give it a shot. I'm very happy with the haircut that I got from Melody, who was both professional and personable. The price was a little higher than my regular place, but far from outrageous. I have been going to Stonefox for about a year now, and have have wonderful experiences every time. The people that work here are wonderful and friendly and the services they provide are reasonably priced. The only issue I have had is I got the shalack on my nails, and it only lasted a week. I haven't tried getting it a second time, but that's the only issue I've ran into. Definitely my #1 choice for salons on the east side. read more

I moved to Milwaukee 3 months ago and was very long overdue for a hair cut. The front desk attendant was very friendly upon my arrival and while I was paying. My stylist Jaime was very friendly and made good conversation. I'm very pleased with the cut and style Jaime gave me. Also, they were able to book me when I had only called last evening hoping for an appointment on a Saturday. At first I wasn't for sure if I wanted to make this my regular salon as it is a bit further of a drive from my house than I would prefer, however b/c of my great experience I decided to rebook with Jaime. I also noticed a father brought his son for a cut while I was there so I'm guessing it is a good place for kid cuts. read more

Stone Fox Salon is the East Side's new hair destination. First of all, as someone who EATS organic, it was great to have hair color that WAS ORGANIC! My red hair color actually smelt like strawberries, it was amazing! The staff were super friendly and welcoming. Like any good salon they asked if I wanted a beverage, however, unlike any salon I have EVER been too, I am pretty sure you can order WINE while you get your hair done. The woman next to me was sipping a glass of red and I loved it! I went it with a vision and Danielle- the person I saw today-was creative and helped the vision come alive. I also got to meet both the owners today, they are awesome, and I felt right at home. I will definitely be back again. Walk Ins are welcome and I myself didn't have an appointment today but was able to get an awesome asymmetrical color highlight at four pm and I was on my way by twenty to six. Speedy and so happy with the results, awesome combination. I found the pricing to be affordable for the East Side, another perk of the Stone Fox. I definitely felt FOXY on my way out!!! read more

I'm a travel nurse from Texas so I had no idea where to get my haircut. Saw the awesome reviews on Yelp and called, letting them know I had very fine, thin medium-length hair. They referred me to Jamie and am I glad they did! Everyone was very friendly and professional. They offered to get me something to drink and I had some delicious green tea while I waited. Jamie took the time to answer all my questions. She asked about my lifestyle and what I was looking for regarding styling time and maintenance. She washed my hair and even added a mini-massage. It felt fantastic and very soothing. She did a great job on the color. It looked very natural and soft. The actual cut was adorable. We improvised as we went along, making it more angled and added bangs. I could tell the way she handled my hair that she was very good at what she does. She even told me how to style it in the morning. She was so sweet and funny through the whole experience. I felt very comfortable with her. Got a compliment as soon as I left. So glad I came here!
