This weekend is the 50th anniversary of the quilt show so the town was bustling with many campers and visitors. I walked through here with my MIL who enjoys this type activity. There was a good selection of fabric prints. But what caught my eye was the hangings of quilts that I guess you can buy the patterns of and I thought that was a great way to see what they look like. I took one picture of a very detailed one that wasn't for sale but beautiful. Prices seem a little high for me but it may be good for here. read more

Bonus there is a fantastic staff really really helpful people and very knowledgeable. Immediately upon entering I was told to keep my service dog "close to my body", not even a "hello". They refused to cut a third of a yard of fabric, saying they only do quarters and halves. Even though they're the only quilt shop in a town that has an annual quilt show I don't think I'll ever go back, it's not fun or exciting to go in which kills creativity. I hope another quilt shop moves into town, maybe some competition will remind them to value their customers and provide kinder service. read more

I loved shopping here while we were in Sisters. I was lucky enough to be here on Thursday before the show. It was lively but you could get your fabric cut and check out pretty quickly. The same was not true when I returned on Friday. My suggestion to you is to avoid Friday before the show. This store is chock full of everything you never knew you wanted. Quilt fabrics, solids and prints both. There are patterns, books, threads, samples and yarn galore. The staff is friendly and helpful. The owner is an icon in the quilting world and it shows. The quilts and fabrics show her dramatic and artistic flair. Come here for some fantastic shopping and do like me, buy some great things! read more

So much fabric! This seems to be the store to go to if you live in town. I know that I'd probably pick up quilting if I were to stay around here for a long period of time. On the side opposite the Stitching Post, there are a lot of fun gift ideas and DIY stamp finds and stuff. This is a great little shop for all kinds of needlework hobbies! As you enter, on the right there are all kinds of yarns and knitting/crochet supplies, and to the left, quilting and sewing. They had so many kinds of yarn, and there weren't just little sample swatches, but whole projects (hats, scarves, etc) on display to show off the yarns and their patterns. I also think (but I'm not 100% sure) that they will turn your yarn skeins into balls after you buy them. I'm not a quilter, but I also enjoyed their racks of fat quarters (arranged by color) toward the back of the store. It made it easy to pick up a few pieces of colorful patterned fabric for some small projects I have in mind. read more

It's one of my favorite fabric stores on the planet, mostly because the stock is all so hip and modern--there are hip/modern fabrics, hip/modern quilting books, and hip/modern sewing patterns. The attached gift store is also filled with hip/modern items, but the prices are well... let's just say... ouch-inducing. So spend a moment over there, and then head back to drool on the fabric. read more

The Stitchin Post is a bright, cheerful shop with a TON of beautiful projects displayed around the building to inspire you. I live in Sisters Oregon and count on good service in my local stores. I stopped into The Stitchin Post today to pick up three or four gray fabrics to make a wall hanging. They had about eight bolts of gray fabric up by the cutting counter and I was interested in three of them. They wouldn't sell me any of the gray fabric as they were turning them into kits that they can't keep on the shelves! What a disappointment, they have fabric in the store that they won't sell to a customer on the customers terms. read more

If fabric stores could be considered crack dens, then this store is the mega-mother. There should be a sign: WARNING: Contents of this store WILL cause addictions. I seriously start jonesing when I get near to Bend. The nervous twitches start. I start thinking of how much money I have in my bank account and how I will hide my new 'stash.' In all seriousness, if you are in Bend and love to sew then you must make the trip here. Reasons: 1. Plethora of fabrics. Batiks to country charm. Amy Butler to Heather Ross. Denyse Schmidt to Valorie Wells. They are all here. 2. Patterns. While their specialty is quilts you will find clothing, bags, home goods and more. 3. The kits. This is my real weakness. Dropping a couple of Benjamins weakness. You get the pattern, the fabric and the binding. And the designs are all gorgeous and posted in the store for you to see. 4. Fat quarters. They have a fat quarter cut for every fabric in the store. You will not need to ask. Love it. 5. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. 6. Quilting retreats and weekends. They are some of the best and you have to sign up early. Very early. 7. The accept credit cards. Hallelujah! 8. Twigs. There is a wonderful home store that shares an adjoining space with the store. Buy a gift for the person who had to wait for you, seriously. I already have a plan to get my next fix, but in case I could not wait they have a really great Internet site. Phew. read more

If you plan to take a Quilters' Affair class, do NOT purchase a class kit from The Stitchin' Post! If you do, you may well be overcharged for fabrics that are NOT suitable for the class. You can do better purchasing fabrics from your local quilt shop. And, IF you do purchase a class kit with inappropriate fabrics, then attempt to return this unusable item, you will be charged a 25% restocking fee! Yes, they expect you to pay for THEIR mistake. AND, they will treat you very rudely!!! This includes the owner, Jean Wells, who needs to take a class in customer service. I have taken classes since 1999, but this year's series of events has removed any desire to ever do so again. Shop elsewhere...at a quilt shop that will appreciate your business. read more

I recently took the fabric block printing class with Valori at the Stichin' Post. I was so impressed with the engaging quality of her teaching and loved working in the bright, sunny classroom space. Val is a prolific block printer, and was able to break down the complex process into very clear, easy-to-follow chunks--as she tended to the wide variety of experience levels in the class. She kept us moving along, so we were all sure to have finished pieces of fabric to take with us. It was helpful to see all her finished examples as inspiration--and she generously shared her own blocks for students to experiment with. I bought some beautiful pre-cut flannel for a quilt. The fabric was beautiful but the cutting was miserable. The cutting job was so poor that it was difficult for me to sew. I would have been much better off buying and cutting the fabric myself. Avoid their precut kits. read more
