I was visiting Bend for the holiday weekend and wanted to visit a local shop on small business weekend. I was not greeted and found the staff standing around chatting. My personal experience with quilters have been we love walking into quilt shops, it is our "high". We are so happy to be there so when you find workers that are not happy people themselves it burst your bubble to deal with them. The store was not even that busy however the person that cut my fabric was more worry about getting me done and getting to the next person. Maybe someone will read this and pay more attention to the customer in front of you and smile. My money was just as green as theirs. After writing this not so favorable review Kathy from BJ's got in touch with me to make sure that she was able to completely understand the situation. She was then able to review the store tape and discuss with her employees!! What a great follow up and way to make a customer feel appreciated. I will be sure to make this Quilt shop a priority. My mother recently visited The Quilt Basket after moving to Bend following the loss of her husband of 60 years. She left behind her home of 50 years and her entire circle of friends, and as a lifelong quilter, she was hoping to find connection and community through quilting again. While in the store, she noticed a group of women quilting together and, with a lot of courage, approached them to ask if it might be possible to join or learn more about the group. Unfortunately, she was met with a very cold and dismissive response (mean girls style) and told it was a closed group. The interaction left her feeling deeply hurt and rejected--to the point that she left in tears. Shame on you ladies!! I completely understand that some groups may be private or full, but kindness and compassion cost nothing. A simple, gentle explanation or even a small word of encouragement would have made all the difference, especially given her situation. I'm sharing this not out of anger, but in hopes that others--especially those who are new, vulnerable, or looking for connection--are treated with more warmth and humanity. Quilting is such a beautiful, community-centered craft, and I hope this shop reflects that spirit more fully in the future. read more

I have shopped in this store many times over the years and today's experience will not have me coming back. I could not have been treated more rudely! And was even lied to! Their "sale corner" suddenly has become optional as far as what is and what is not for sale. Twice I selected fabric from the sale corner and both times was told it's not on sale. I never plan to shop there again. I don't need to be treated like an enemy instead of a loyal shopper. read more

I would like to let the shop know how much I appreciated the July Festival of classes this year. It was wonderful to get out of the house and participate in 3 mystery classes with Linda Ballard. (She is the best!) All safety precautions were taken for everyone's safety, much appreciated. The lunches were wonderful and we were able to eat outside in the shade. We could shop before class and a couple of us at a time, anytime we wanted to shop. The classroom was large and roomy for social distancing and located near the sale items! Most of all I felt very welcomed, why? because you knew my name and used it often, offered 15% discount on my purchases and what a surprise when I received another $10 dollars towards my next purchase (twice) made sure I wanted meat on my sandwich instead of just cheese! I went into the shop today and was so out of my element....I'm just beginning to try my hand at applique and quilting. I was amazed at all of the beautiful fabrics and so many wonderful colors!! I asked a sales associate for help and told her I was a beginner and she took the time to help me find everything I needed to complete 4 projects. ( I live in Mexico in the winter and do not have access to notions or fabrics) I was treated very well and was given wonderful advise as well. I'm so grateful for all the help I was given and most certainly will return to shop again. read more

I was having great difficulty in my quest for a specific French General fabric from 2017. I finally located what I believed to be the same fabric on BJs Quilt Basket website, but I wasn't certain it was the same color I needed. I called the store on Sunday (I live in Washington State) to see if they would be willing to pull the bolt and compare to a photo I would send them. The gal who answered the phone was absolutely amazing. She checked their system, she pulled the bolt and compared to a picture I sent her via text. After some discussion, we determined it was indeed the color I wanted. She measured out what was left on the bolt, as I needed 6 yards, to ensure they had enough. I placed the order on Sunday and received the package today (Wednesday). When I opened the box, there was a free fat quarter, a thank you note, and the owner's business card. The fabric was wrapped in a lovely teal bag with the store logo facing up and nicely centered in the box. I am generally a very tough sell on customer service but I will tell you my interaction with this quilt shop was amazing from start to finish. It is very clear that their goal is to provide customers with unmatched service! read more

Contrary to what people seem to have experienced at BJs - my most recent visit was a terrible experience. I am not sure if this was my experience now that ownership of the business has changed hands or what. But it was not great - and I will not be back. My mom, daughter and I entered the store. My mom lives in Bend, where I grew up. I was visiting from Seattle where I have a small handmade children's clothing line. I like going to local fabric shops where ever I am. This time I was sourcing new fabrics for my fall clothing line. So I was expecting to spend a good amount of money on fabric and knew that last time I visited I got some really nice pieces. This was before the ownership change. When we entered the store - 2 "employees" - I am pretty sure one was the new owner. They were having a big discussion on how to rearrange the fabric shelves at the back of the store. I could over hear them talking. No hello - or greeting of any kind. We were invisible. My daughter remembered that there had been toys on her last visit and started to look for them in the same location they used to be. My mom had to interrupt the 2 "employees" talking and try and get them to talk to her. They told her the toys were away while they rearrange the store. No problem. We walked around the store looking at fabrics- quietly and carefully, we used their bathroom quickly and then my daughter was with my mom. She is excellent in stores and shops with me on the regular. She loves to look at things and sometimes picks things up and is careful with them. We also watch her carefully. Seriously - one of her first words was "cut" she's been in fabric stores since she was born. All of a sudden one of the "employees" - I think the owner crossed the room quickly and followed my mom and daughter down a row. My daughter had picked up a spool of thread and was carrying it. The woman took the cover from her tiny hands and then asked where she got it and the asked if we were going to buy it. Then she took the thread from my daughters hands. WHAT!!! As customers we can carry things around the store - and who do you think you are to take things out of my daughters hands. And ask if we were going to purchase it. We nope! Purchase nothing we will! Such a terrible experience. I have worked in customer service for 29 years and owned a small business for several years. This is not how to treat customers. The next day we drove to Sisters - had a great experience at a quilting shop and bought all my fabric needs plus some fun extras there. Sorry BJs - get your priorities straight - organizing your store is not one of them when you are open and have customers. And take a look at your customer service experience. read more

What a treat to find such a great shop! Many brand new lines as well as hip prints: aboriginals, Kaffe Fassett etc. Not only does this shop stock an amazing selection of patterns, they have a super helpful and friendly staff. I will definitely be back! read more

The staff is so helpful, and willing to help match colors, give suggestions and care about your project. The shop is roomy and well laid out.
