Aquarium in the tea lounge, love watching underwater creatures :)

My dear friend Anita G treated me a "gingerbread n butter" pedicure at the Stillwater Spa (side note : I have the BEST friends, y'all!) to de-stress. I had a truly wonderful and relaxing experience at the spa. My esthetician, Gordana, was a really lovely soul. She brought me little treats (I don't know if this is customary?), composed of a caprese salad, sparkling fruit juice, and a little sweet treat. The gingerbread part of the pedicure is a scented oil she placed into my footbath - OMG it smelled just like gingerbread cookies, yum! Love that they offer beautiful Deborah Lippmann polishes! I selected "Ruby Red slippers" layered over "Lady Is A Tramp" for the festive season (think deep burgundy sparkle) and LOVED the results. Gordana took a lot of care to make sure each toe was perfectly polished, which I appreciated! It was fairly quiet being that I went late on a Tuesday evening and I think at one point I had the entire place to myself. They do not rush you to leave (which was awesome as I didn't want to smudge my new toes by jamming them into my winter boots). I wish I had my bathing suit with me as you can use the hot tub facilities if you wish while you wait for your services. Helped myself to some delicious tea and biscotti, they even had apples as well to snack on in the tea lounge. Spent a bit of relaxing in a "cabana" type lounger complete with my own TV and disposable headphones reading a magazine - Bliss!! Really enjoyed my experience here and I will return as a treat for sure.

I recently visited the Stillwater for my first time - what a treat! I had the Swedish Massage, a pedicure with paraffin treatment and a facial. The facilities are beautiful and opulent. I enjoyed the private cabanas in the change rooms where you can watch TV with headphones (there is privacy curtain). It was a nice place to relax while my polish dried on my toes. I did not get to try the whirlpool or the wet or dry sauna this time but I loved the waiting area with the flavored waters (one with cucumbers, one with lemon and the other one with oranges), biscotti, fruit and a variety of teas. There was a fireplace on one side and a salt water aquarium on the other. I loved being able to choose between several massage oils - I choice the grapefruit. I did not find the spa overly crowded but we were there on a Thursday afternoon. I imagine that it could feel very cramped on a busy weekend.

It was a quiet evening, but the tremendous amount of lockers make me wonder that overcrowding can potentially be an issue.

My massage with Mike and facial with Laurie were fantastic. I came after 6pm and it wasn't very busy and I had a relatively good spa experience. However, I am not likely coming back for the following reasons (if you give me gift certificate I can always change my mind): 1. The spa is located above the subway line so you can here the rumbling of the trains passing every 5 frickin' minutes. Not very Zen. And unfortunately, no amount of constructive feedback can really change this. 2. There were approximately 60 very slender lockers yet only 6 shower stalls. This ratio to me indicates potential overcrowding is likely possible (though admittedly it was fairly slow when I was there). I mean, why so many lockers?!?! Can they in theory book that many people at any one time (and this is only the women's change room folks). Again, the thought of having 30-60 women in the change room - not very Zen. 3. Not enough space to dress comfortably in the change room. If I fork out $420 for services, the least I deserve is to be able to dress comfortably, wouldn't you think? Lockers surround the entire wall area but there are no benches to sit your your things. My backpack (containing a laptop, gym shoes, make up baggy, a water bottle, and umbrella) barely fits inside the slender lockers. There were 2 counter spaces that were enough to service 3 people comfortably each. It would be less claustrophobic if they knocked down about 20-30 lockers and put some benches instead. If they did, I would bring it up another star.

I've spent a significant amount with this brand and always had positive in-store experiences. After recently moving to Guelph, I planned to continue supporting the company by ordering products online, as there is no storefront here. Unfortunately, my most recent online order was marked "delivered," but I never received it. The package was left unattended, and although a delivery photo was provided, I did not sign for or receive the parcel. When I contacted the company, they declined to reship or refund the order because the carrier marked it as delivered. My request to escalate the matter went unanswered. It's disappointing that a longtime customer was left to absorb the loss without any meaningful resolution. I valued this brand and intended to continue as a customer, but this experience has changed that.

Jeanette was professional, knowledgeable and she matched my personality. I particularly liked about her that she didn't push any of Spa's own and extensive, yet expensive line on me to but. She gave me a small ( but enough) supply of products I supposed to apply after procedure and overnight/ next day/ 24-48 hours, for free. I ended up purchasing a facial water ( specially formulated for after-procedure care), and I like that I had a choice to purchase different sizes of thos facial water. When I got there, I was greeted by the front receptionist. The spa is very nice and has a nice ambiance. I was then taken inside the room where they would do my manicure. I thought she did an okay job, but then my manicure started chipping the same night and by day 3, it was all peeling off. Well that is…read morekind of how I felt at the Spa at the Hazelton although my version of it would be "Services 10 . . . .Facility 3". Just know if you are looking for the total relaxing spa experience- you may not find it here. But you will get an outstanding massage or other service. After staying in the Hazelton Hotel- I had very high hopes for the spa as upstairs in the hotel- my every wish was accommodated. So when I took the elevator down to the basement level- I was a little surprised that I was not warmly greeted- rather I was asked what size shoe I wore and then the receptionist walked me into the small but functional locker room, pointed out my locker and left. I chased her down and asked where the waiting area was for my treatments and she said I needed to come back out to the reception area. Hmmm . . . .seemed odd but okay. Now I go to spas all around the world so I was familiar with the lock on the locker and how it functioned- but even a spa I go to all the time still takes the time to ask if I am familiar with the locking system. And forget reading the instructions on the inside of the door if you are a glasses wearing gal. A great spa makes everything effortless and that was just not the case here. I got changed and went back out to the reception area to sit and wait for my services. Again- this was a bit odd. There were 4 small seats squished into an alcove right by the check in area. So there were people coming and going the whole time I was trying to relax to anticipate my services. And then forget about relaxing there when you are finished . . . .the seats were full so there is no place to relax after your services either. They really need to invest in some type of space for this. The other thing I never even found was the pool and wet area. Turns out it's on another floor- so if you were thinking of a swim after your services- you will need to go upstairs. Another miss for me although there is a steam room in the spa area. Okay- so enough of the down side- let's move on to the stars of this spa and those are surely the services! I started with their scrub. Sarah, the technician was as great as the service as when we were finished- my skin felt like a baby's skin! And then after a quick shower- she massaged some wonderful hydrating lotion into my skin and sent me on to my next service. If there was any downside here- it was that the shower to rinse off in was back in the locker room area versus being in the actual service room which most places that offer scrubs do. I had to put my robe back on- walk past the reception area and into the shower and then back again to finish the service. And while I was escorted to the shower and given a new robe and slippers- it still isn't as nice as just stepping off the table, into the shower and back onto the table. My next service was an hour long deep tissue massage. Elizabeth was my therapist and she was also great! She took the time to listen to any issues I was having and then spent the next hour working on those areas. She also spent time after the service suggesting some things that I can do at home to relieve some of the stress in my shoulders. At this point, I would have liked to sit and relax somewhere with some hot tea but as I mentioned earlier, there really isn't a place here to do that so I just got dressed and left. All in all? Great services in a just okay location. And I guess I expected a little more than that from the Hazelton.
