We loaded up with snacks and drinks for a roadtrip back to the city and everything was as you would expect. Not only were the cashiers super friendly but one guy working the coffee machines let me have my coffee for free because "the red light is on, the coffee is passed it prime" lol that still tickles me thinking back on it. And to top it off, the coffee was fine! Would definitely come back next time we're in Utica.

I finally said Good morning and then Pam said yes, I than asked her where are the prices and menu for the smoothies? She pointed over to the side of the counter. I then reviewed it and said let me get a tea. I look up there were people standing in line which no one said anything to them. Carpe then said Pan can you get them as she was putting food on the shelf. Pam then walk up to the register never acknowledging the fact that they had been waiting in line with no acknowledgment or no apology. I then just shook my head because the fact that you go to a store and the service workers customer service is poor was surprising. I won't be coming here again. STORE #246.

Orders are placed at the bar and the one bartender working had things running smoothly. I ordered a Watermelon Wheaton beer and loaded nachos. I immediately got my beer and got a pager for my food. There were a few regular tables along the perimeter among the high top tables but I chose to sit at the bar. The other patrons were very friendly and included me in their conversation. The beer was crisp and cold. The food came out rather quickly. The nachos were topped with beer cheese, fresh pico de gallo, sour cream, and scallions. There was a very generous amount of sour cream so I didn't have to worry about just eating chips. The bartender kept everyone served and knew what the regulars drank. She checked on me regularly. My only disappointment is that as summer comes to an end I will have to wait until next year to attend the events they have at the brewery.

Well, I returned to Utica and came back to Florentine Pastry Shop as promised. But you know what? All I had eyes for were their Pasticciotti. So I ordered two "pusties". One vanilla and one chocolate. They are magnificent. Simple and humble to be sure. But crisp and tender pastry stuffed with plenty of creamy, custardy, true-to-flavor filling. I can't stop thinking about them. And there is absolutely no reason to deprive a bakery of a full five stars based solely on their specialty item and noting else. The pusties are so good, I'm going to ignore the fact that I saw a full sheet of pre-filled cannoli in the case. Florentine Pastry Shop is a regional gem and a historical treasure. It's well worth the detour from the highway should you find yourself driving past Utica.
