I was in the Coquitlam area and stopped by Steve's Poke at Henderson Place. I ordered via app and I was disappointed that my order wasn't completed correctly. I ordered Build Your Own Bowl with 1 serving of Shoyu Ahi Tuna and 1 spicy mayo scallops. When I got my bowl, i only received the spicy mayo scallop and the shoyu ahi tuna was missing. I also requested chopsticks and it wasn't in the bag as well. It was the first time at this location and likely my last. I wouldn't recommend this location. read more

Located in Henderson mall. I've been here several times now and both times was pretty good. Service is super friendly, they offer free samples so you can taste before choosing. I've had regular (one scoop) poke spicy tuna and second time spicy salmon. $9.75 plus tx. With up to 15 toppings. Very filling. Super fresh. Very clean. They have handful of seating but generally people take it to go. I'm glad I have this option right across from work. Good addition to the area. read more

We're back at another Poke spot! Well we've actually been to the Coquitlam Steve's Poké Bar location before. Their poke is one of our favourites so we decided to visit one of their other locations. We've actually noticed that Steve's Poké Bar has been one of the poke spots in Vancouver that has been popping up all over the place lately. They also have a location at Lougheed mall and is projected to have one at Brentwood mall when it's completed! When we go to other Poke spots, Grayson ends up getting the large size and I get the regular. The sizes seem to be bigger at Steves Poke bar so we usually go down a size. We were greeted with friendly smiles when we walked in and offered samples of all their protein options. We didn't even hesitate and said yes right away. Why not try the product before you buy it right? Grayson's favorite here is the salmon poke and I usually go with the spicy salmon. Their scallops is our close second because they are always soo fresh here They are generous with portions here and they have fresh seafood. Steve's poke bar quickly became our go-to poke spot because they have so many options for toppings! They have a few that you need to pay extra for but I think the variety they offer without extra charge is more than enough for you to choose from. Only to go orders. There was a line of 5-6 people at the door when I arrived. They let groups of 2 max in to order. I ordered through their app and saved 10% which was nice. Their staff was very friendly and nice. We ordered the traditional poke and shoyu bowl with tuna. Could be because we drove to the beach from Coquitlam, some pieces weren't as fresh tasting. Some pieces were a little fishy and had that stringy tendon texture you don't want in your poke. There was a lot of tuna and rice in traditional bowl. I would go with traditional if I was to come back. I've love poke in Hawaii and am not a big fan of those extra toppings such as corn and edamame. Won't be able to get poke like in Hawaii but Steve's poke bar wasn't bad. Spent just under 30$ with the 10% discount read more

I am a fan of Steve's style of Canadian poke. Real friendly helpful & cheerful staff when we dropped by yesterday afternoon during our bike ride round POCO / Coquitlam BC. Concerned about the safety of our 'rides', (recently had a bike stolen / lock destroyed) we worked it out, brought the bikes inside the Mall and watched em through the window of Steve's from our table. I ordered the 'traditional'; 4 smallish scoops of Steve's poke choice, white rice (no brown available minus half star) so half n half with the quinoa, lettuce leaves, pickled ginger, & again HIS choice of toppings (they were fine) Protein of his choice was one of his tuna mixtures (fine) & a farmed salmon spicy (minus a star because of it's coarse quality). Tuna poke ala Steve was fresh and tasty. Portion size for 16 $CDN okay, not a huge serve in a cute little round brown 'bamboo lookin' flat recyclable paper bowl. Our other choice was 'cooked' (she's not a raw fan), which meant vegetarian, tofu + avocado + choice of toppings, all fresh and delish, help yerself to condiments like sesame oil, soy sauce, hot stuff..... she pronounced it "one of the best she's had" in the genre, (though not a fan of poke as such, it hit the mark for her) 27 bucks the light lunch for 2 = fair value. Steve is in the top 5% of Canadian poke we've sampled over the years, though a ways off HAWAII quality, probably due to local availability of fish ? Personally, I wouldn't put MY name on that farmed salmon, but to each his own. 3.5 stars rounded up because of the tidy clean comfortable surrounds and cheery ATTITUDE of staff. Used to be a super Poke fan prior to my Yelp days. Theses days I rarely partake. But on occasions I would still visit Steve's Poke Bar My first experience with Steve's Poke Bar is the SFU's location. Most memorably I thought the ingredients were fresh and healthy tasting. Serving size is not always the most generous however they have a number of online offers which can be of a sizeable discount. Located inside a quiet mall has got to be one of my new front runners for Poke. In the last few years, there's been many new poke shops in the city and who knew that my new favourite one would be inside this quiet mall. Their menu is extremely simple and even their "signature bowls" all contain the same items and are just named uniquely depending on the fish you choose so you can either build your own or just choose from one of their signature bowls. We decided to build our own since there weren't many toppings anyways. We did the two scoop: shoyu ahi tuna and shoyu salmon and topped it off with their wakame salad, crab salad and edamame and all of their crunchy toppings. I'm not a fan of garlic but my boyfriend wanted that as a topping and the flavours were very strong and prominent. I would definitely come back here again for poke but would opt out of their salmon. I'm usually more of a salmon fan than tuna but their tuna was better than their salmon so I can see how they got first place in the Vanfoodster challenge with their tuna. I loved how this place also let you get more of the toppings so needless to say, our two scoop bowl was very full. Give their ponzu sauce a try as well if you think the shoyu flavors are too salty since it is lighter and helps gives some flavours to the crab salad. read more

Came here for the grand opening and returned many times after because they are so amazing! From the service to quality of food, you can tell Steve has put attention and love into it. First off, they make sure you have enough base material (rice or salad) before going on to give you a nice heaping scoop of protein and very generous toppings! I always ask for extra seaweed salad and crab on top. Although there's less variety of protein to choose from, its always fresh and seasoned well. I like how you get to put in the sauces afterwards and you can carry them in a little sauce container so it won't get soggy when you get home. I have ordered a few times before and the quality of the poke is shit. There's always this one guy who works there and he just can't follow what I want, pretty sure he hates his job. The only way is to go and order there in person and not pickup, to ensure you get what you want. When i went in, he said that it would be 20min wait! It would have taken like less than 5min to take my order, so i just went home. I ordered through thr app andI have been given like 2 spoonfuls of quinoa and one spoonful of rice which made the poke really salty with the sauce and seasoning... plus the poke tastes old and basically disintegrates altogether. This is one of the best poke that I tried (Handerson location). I know this place from Groupon honestly. The location is inside the Handerson Mall. They are very generous in portion wise and you can choose unlimited toppings (additional money for premium toppings, such as avocado, masago, tobiko and mango). You will get base (i always go with white rice ), 1 scoop of protein (my favourite are spicy salmon and shoyu ahi tuna), sauce (the steve's soyu is the best!!!), toppings, crunchies (just get all of them). In the past when they have dine-in option, you can take the sauce as much as you want. Even in this covid situation, they still maintain their quality, like the freshness of all the ingridients, including the fish. Tips: buy the coupon from groupon, really good deal. You can also download their app and collect point (and 10% discount first order) Another thing to remember, since you can't take your own sauce right now, ask for more sauce (mix in your bowl) lol, they give me just enough when I take out, but you can ask more sauce while they are doing your order. She said that her name was Kat, but she refused to give me her last name or put me in contact with anyone else. Kat refused to give me the order saying that I had to show the phone with the order (which would be my daughter's phone, obviously not on me). She did not listen, refused to reimburse the order, became bossy and aggressive, and suggested that she would call security if I didn't leave. She also threatened me to cut me off of Skip-the-Dishes (which I actually don't use). Not only my blood pressure went skyrocketing, but I had to figure out a lunch replacement. Worst experience... I actually came here from Delta after winning a $10 gift card. They would not honour the gift card as $10, only as 2 $5 gift cards. That isn't 'winning' a gift card, that is just a ploy to get more customers and is incredibly insane. The poor staff had to call their manager and I waited 15 mins for them to decide what to do, all while a line waited outside. Here's a rough copy of an email I sent to Steve's early in the year just when things were in there infancy. I received no response and sent it in confidence hoping they would address the issues. My wife and I stopped in for lunch . I noticed it was quite busy and thought the 1 girl working needed some help . While waiting there was a young man eating in the corner table . I noticed him get up head in the back and seconds larter reappear and offer to take my order . He was so quick I thought he would have had no time to wash his hands . I kinda mentioned it under my breath but i think he did not hear . No problem they do not actually handle the food I figured.. Now as I went to pick out my tuna I noticed the scoop laying rght in the tuna , handle and all , As he picked it out and went to scoop the sushi , I mentioned I did not want the sushi due to that fact. He left and I was thinking well at least the new sushi will be fresh . He then returned with a new scoop . I again said no I did not want the susht and he explained how it wa sa new clean scoop . I then had to explain how the scoop they had been handling all morning with their bare hands was contaminating the food . He then left and eventually returned with a new scoop . My family and I tried 3 different poke bowls today. We haven't had authentic Hawaiian Poké from Hawaii before so can't really compare. I decided to order 3 build your own bowls because there were no subs in the other creations. I prefer quinoa over rice in my poke bowls. We ordered the shoyu ahi tuna, shoyu salmon and spicy mayo scallops. All the protein was fresh but wished their was more. It wasn't clear when I ordered how many scoops of protein you'd get in a byob order. I love that they use red tuna over the white tuna from sushi restaurants. The shoyu marinade was fantastic. I also really wanted the spicy mayo scallops as well. I ordered the bowls with some shoyu sauce, ponzu and sesame oil and spicy mayo sauces on the siDe. All the sauces went well with the bowls. I liked that adding the spicy mayo made it taste a lot different than the soy based sauces. Overall, fresh ingredients and a tasty meal! We've tried here twice now with 2 Groupons - overall good value for the groupon but not sure if I'll come here on my own without them. The selection for toppings is great mind you, but what bothers me is that both times I've noticed the actual poke sashimi less than stellar. In fact, I found it not that fresh and little selection because everything else has sold out. It might be that I'm just coming too late in the day since poke seems to be more of a lunch meal instead of early dinner, so in a way I dont blame them too much for this. In summary, definitely a good value for the groupon and a good choice if you're in Henderson mall and not looking into getting Chinese or Korean food in the food court; however, if I had to compare with other bigger poke establishments in downtown, I would probably opt for those instead if I had the choice. read more

Highly discourage anyone from coming here. As other reviews have stated the food is at best "fine" I'm not going to disparage the place and say it's bad tasting. The real issue is that the owner of the shop itself is one of the most disrespectful people I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Don't support this kind of behaviour. Go elsewhere. More and more poke shops are and will be opening in the Coquitlam Central area soon so you don't "need" to go to this particular one. PS. I don't recommend this place!! I just had the worst customer service experience at the Henderson Mall location. I had a 50% off coupon. I tried to redeem it online when I ordered but it wouldn't work. So I called the restaurant and told the staff my issue. She said that was ok and she would take my order on the phone. I drove to pick it up and when I got there and showed her my coupon she excused herself and went to get the other staff member. After a 5 min phone call to whom I'm assuming was their manager the male employee said he would go through the motions of ordering online with me on my phone. Even though my food is sitting there on the counter ready. I politely said ok and in the end he couldn't figure out how to redeem my coupon online either. I explained that I needed to get dinner home to my husband and 2yr old and that this was nobody's fault. Obviously it was a computer issue and asked if they could charge me the 50% off my order and get management to deal with it at a later time. I had been there for over 10min with my order just sitting there. They told me that I should pay full price this time and redeem my discount next time or only receive 50% off one bowl (staff discount) but not 50% off my entire order like my coupon clearly stated. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? He actually told me he would rather me call management later to deal with it because he would get in trouble. How he would get in trouble for giving a customer what they're entitled to is beyond me. I would think the way they treated me would get them into trouble...they clearly had zero training on customer service and how to handle situations like this. He would rather send me away upset, lose the 50% of business, waste the already prepared food, and lose a customer. Where's the common sense? I'm 7months pregnant (which I never mentioned) I had to go home to my husband and kid with no dinner.
