I wanted to get a special card. I haven't been to a hallmark location in quite a while. In fact, I went to where I thought hallmark was and it turns out they had closed a long time ago!! Quick yelp search to find one.. THE MALL! Not a huge fan of the mall, but still I really wanted a greeting card that would make a grown man cry. Aside from being inside the mall and being rather small, they had what I came for and seemed pretty well stocked. As I stood in line drying my tears after reading all these cards, I noticed some really cute copper and aventurine earrings I may have to go back for. If I can get myself to the mall again. Haha. Ordered online a Star Wars BB-8 Itty Bitty for a Christmas gift. The Hallmark stores closest to me did not have any in stock and my next available store with inventory for pick-up was this store at Sun Valley Mall in Concord. I placed the order in the evening and I received an email the next morning that it was ready for pickup. The store is on the upper level between Sears and the Macy's Women's store. Walked up to the cashier and told him I had an online order. He asked for my name and he retrieved my order and had me look in the bag to ensure it was what I had ordered. I looked at it and saw the tag was bent and asked if I could get another one. He walked me to the display and there were two more BB-8s, where the tag was more bent. So I told him I would take the original one. We went back to the counter and he bagged my BB-8 and I was on my way. Appreciate the friendly and helpful service and getting my online order was smooth. Glad this store is still in this mall, it's the only place to get great Christmas ornaments. My mom loved Christmas, bless her heart, if she could have it all year, she would. Going in here makes me think of her even more than I usually do. I ran in to grab the Master Chief ornament before it was sold out. Glad they still had a few. Since it's the holidays they have young teenagers working, so it wasn't that great of service, but I didn't need much help. This is the place to go to get those Hallmark annual ornaments. read more

This store hires young people but they are very rude to senior Asian customers. I was called to pick up my ornament that comes out in the month of October so they told me to come in before October 23rd or it would go to the next person. When I got there, cashier asked me if I was a KOB member because they get there ornaments today. I said no I am not KOB member but I am reward member. We argued and she told me to come tomorrow, but she said I'll go out of my way to get it, which took a minute to find. And I paid for the ornament $50. Now setting up this haunted house ornament at home I looked at the special wish list for ornaments in the bag and the receipt showed I paid for this ornament in July. The salesperson should have looked at the wishlist showing the ornament was paid for and just handed me the ornament. So this cashier needs to be trained. And not to be so rude. 2020 and 2021 were tough pandemic years (can you BELIEVE that COVID times started back then!?!) What has made things a bit better -- and put a smile on people's faces -- are SQUISHMALLOWS! : ) Steve's Hallmark Shop has tons of them, albeit at higher price points than at other retailers. I've been able to find almost all of the ones that have been on wish lists : ) Another great thing to buy during the pandemic to make people's day brighter have been fun greeting cards. There is an amazing selection of cards and gifts here, so it's been easy to get great finds to send to anyone who may not be able to connect due to isolation. The employees have always been helpful and nice, both on the phone and in the store. Since this Hallmark is located in Sunvalley Mall, there is a lot of foot traffic depending on the day of the week. read more

I've always had an affinity towards Hallmark shops for some reason. I'm not sure why. I don't think I buy a lot of stuff from there to be quite honest with you, but when I'm at the mall and I see Hallmark store, almost always I want to go in there and just really enjoy browsing their items. I think their items are super fun and interesting to see, and somehow they strangely feel calming to me and help me relax. I also like Disney and more often than not I would find a lot of Disney-themed items at Hallmark stores, and I always like that. That said, I'm actually not sure of how "official" all of these Disney items are. But I don't care. In this specific Hallmark store located at the Sun Valley Mall in Concord, I found very cool crystal figurines of Frozen characters and Star Wars characters (although it's kinda hard to see/recognize their faces when made of see-through crystal). I also found a real pretty stone-resin figurine in a shape of almost the original Disney's The Little Mermaid poster, which I thought was super cool. Tried to return merchandise bought the day before without a receipt 30 minutes before closing (because they did not give me one and I forgot to ask). The young teenage girl kept saying she cannot give me store credit. It clearly states on their website that store credit can be given without a receipt. I asked her to call her manager. She spoke to her manager for 5 minutes then hung up and stated she cannot do it without a receipt. I lost my cool and raised my voice. She yelled back. Very poor customer service. I walked out and do not intend to shop there anymore. read more

Well there are plenty of places inside Sun Valley Mall to get: - Teen Skinny Jeans - Athletic shoes with designer logos - Sports Jerseys and Hats - Panties - Teen T's with outrageous designs - Sugar, carb or grease overloads - Prom dresses - Little black dresses - Cheap costume jewelry and hair clips - Scented body wash - Mobile phone accessories But what about a gift bag, gift card, and tissue when any of the above are bought as gifts? (OMG, that is cute on you! So why are you going to give it away?) This is the place to go to get those accessories to complete the purchase for something you are going to give someone else, not yourself. I know it is hard, but try once in awhile. I was quite surprised to read some of the negative reviews of this store! I have shopped at Steve's for over a decade and have had nothing but positive experiences and good things to say. To begin with, I have been greeted by a staff person every time I've entered the store. Manager Cynthia and her staff are friendly, personable and always wear a smile. The card, gift wrap, ribbon, etc. selection is tremendous! I haven't seen a better Xmas ornament or holiday decoration selection anywhere!! My questions are always answered in a timely manner and the service is exquisite! Great place to shop!! read more

This type of store carries a lot of things that I don't need, but other people must really need; the story was busy. However, they were the only place I was able to find a Guest Book for an exhibit. The selection of Disney ceramic figurines here is quite nice. I'm usually looking for Nightmare Before Christmas or Alice In Wonderland. Not for me, just family members. If the selection at my other go to stores for such things is limited I come here. This time around I found two small Nightmare figures. The prices are reasonable. Surprisingly reasonable really. For the reasonability of prices, the type of figures and statues is usually limited. I've never found that wow item. Like I said, this is usually my last quest in that special gift search. As to the other cards and misc. chotky items, I really have no interest in. A lot of the stuff they sell is just space filling nonsense. Maybe the occasional thank you card set would come in handy. The store's policy is deceiving. Three days before Christmas, my husband & son bought a few items as a gift for me. Since I own similar things after opening the gifts on Christmas day, I decided I will return them or maybe exchange for something else. I went to the store the day after Christmas and spoke to a sales associate. She tells me that she couldn't take back the items because it's after Christmas and the policy according to her is no returns after the Christmas. The receipt's return policy states: 30 days with receipt & before holiday. I asked her where does it say Christmas. The word "holiday" is vague and misleading as well as no one told my husband that it wasn't returnable after Christmas. I asked for the manager, Cynthia, and she said she wasn't there and that the manager wouldn't take the return any ways. Apparently, I wasn't the only one who tried to make a return that day and was told can't take it back. When my husband mentioned that we must not be the only one who is upset with this policy to the sales person, she made a facial expression that acknowledged my husband was correct. There were other upset costumers that day. I tried communicating with the store's corporate office and no response. This store has the WORST customer service RETURN POLICY! No one in my family will ever go inside that store ever!! I prefer to spend my money at store's with better store policy as well as customer service. To those who plan to shop at this store beware of the store's buyer's trap. They should have put no returns after Christmas but if they did that then customers would decide not to buy anything there for a Christmas gift. Instead they put used the word holiday which is deceiving, a customer trap. My husband should have looked at yelp review before shopping in this store. read more

The store was nice but customer service...not so much. I had a question and approached one worker and she turned and said very rudely "I'm on break ask that woman over there" and walked away. I mean come on! Then as I was purchasing something the woman helping me asked for my number (i forgot my rewards card) i started with my area code (661) and she stopped, scrunched her face disgustedly and said loudly "661? Ew, Wheres that? What's that? I've never heard of that?! Is it another country?" Uh okay...well it's outside L.A. "L.A really?! Why? Where's that?" Now people were looking at me. She made it seem like i was from another world. Then she turned to another saleswoman and said, "I don't think I can give her this coupon, shes from L.A. As soon as I walked into the store, I was greeted with smiles by two of the employees working at the time. I approached one of the employees and asked her where the Mother's Day cards were. She led me right to them. Huge selection of course! Sadly I only saw one card that was targeted towards step-moms, so I had to settle for a card that was targeted for any woman other than your own mom. The store was extremely well organized. There wasn't anything on the floor or out of place. There is a large selection of cards and numerous lovely gifts to buy. When I was checking out, the cashier asked me if I have a Hallmark Rewards card and since I do not, she signed me up right then and there. While I was filling out the information for the rewards card, the cashier was being polite and was keeping a light conversation with me. This store used to be better. The owner may want to rethink his management team. I went in with a return with a receipt within the 30 days (within 2 weeks) and no where on the receipt did it say I could not return a bear that was a gift card holder. I might have been more understanding had the person who said she was the manager, Cynthia had not been so rude! Keep in mind, she is arguing with me over $9.95. I even asked if we could just do store credit. She said no at first then a few minutes later she said I will only give you half of what you paid for it and it can only be store credit. Half? Really? Oh and she kept trying to blame the fact that they were an independent store. So if you are an independent store you should really focus on customer service. Because this store not only lost me as a customer over $9.95, I'm going to tell everyone I know not to shop there. Everyone that was with me said they were shocked as to how rude Cynthia #0020 was!
