I was craving a little nature and just wanted somewhere quiet where I could sit, relax, and slow down for a bit. ChatGPT recommended this place, and I'm so glad I came! As soon as we arrived, a lovely server named Tracy welcomed us so warmly. She helped us choose a wine, explained everything, and even told us the story behind the name "3 Steves." Apparently, the winery really was started by three guys named Steve! It was a hot day, so we ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and found a spot overlooking the hills. Sitting there with a gentle breeze, sipping cold sparkling wine and looking out at the peaceful scenery was exactly what I needed. It reminded me how precious it is to step away from busy city life once in a while and simply sit, breathe, and enjoy the moment. Another thing I loved is that they allow you to bring in outside food. We picked up some Thai food nearby and enjoyed it with our wine while taking in the view. Not entirely sure. We found the barn closer to the back. Tha barn was on a neat location, it has a little patio area outside overlooking the vineyards. If it wasn't hot I would have stayed outside instead. The barn was cool, there were small tall tables and chairs and lounge are with sofas. We were asked what tasting flight we like to try and we went with the red and whites. We paired our tasting with cheese and chips. I laughed when they handed us the cheese which was a block of wrapped cheese and a bag of chips. I was fully thinking it was already prepared, cut cheese and a bowl of chips. I did not mind though. I would be happy to take cheese and chips home too. lol Wines were good. I have noticed in many wineries here in Livermore, the reds are lighter bodied and not as dry as the ones I had in Napa or Paso Robles. We also ended up taking a bottle home. Overall cool area, good wines. Would definately go back to see what else they offer.

What impressed me most was the service. Our wine host, Austin, was friendly, funny, and quite entertaining. Another wine host noticed me taking pictures and invited me to check out their barrel room, which was such a nice touch. The atmosphere has a fun, laid-back feel that seems perfect for hanging out with friends. They also have a pretty fun lineup of events, from line dancing to bingo and trivia nights. We may have to come back for one of those!

I chose to buy a bottle of their Malbec which hit my flavor profile perfectly. They made sure the water station Was always full which was greatly appreciated. Staff kept checking on all the tables to make sure we were enjoying and had what we needed. There was a food truck and cookie cart available to everyone and they allowed you to bring food in. This event was a great way to pre game for the 4th. WTR schedules events for their customers and members that invite community and what better way than to share with a glass of outstanding wine. There is a varietal for every palette. Well Done. I definitely will be back.

They were able to accommodate us, I think also in part probably because it was blazing hot this day, so perhaps they weren't as full as they usually are for a Saturday, but great for us! I think it's great that they allow you to bring your own food, though I wish we had known ahead of time, (again, last minute decision so I didn't do my research) we definitely would've brought some snacks since they do not sell food. It was a hot day, and Brent promptly brought over a carafe of water, which we appreciated. The winery is intimate, but it has a lot of character. On the west side, you can overlook the vineyards, which was lovely. Since it was a hot day, not many people were out there on that side, so we had that side of the house to ourselves. The tasting included 6 wines, a mix of whites and reds. Since I'm more partial to whites, I asked if I could swap some of the reds for more whites instead, and Brent happily accommodated me. He was kind and friendly throughout. I also love bubbles, and at first he mentioned he didn't have an open bottle, but I said I would still buy it anyways. But later he found one and poured me some of their sparkling, it was delicious! I should've bought 2!! He asked us what we wanted to re-visit and my husband picked the Fat Boy. We picked up a bottle of that one too. I will be coming back for another sparkling or two! Overall, a great experience thanks to Brent. My wife and I stopped by Mitchell Katz on a 100-degree day, but sitting outdoors under the deep shade of their trees with a gentle breeze keeping us cool was incredibly comfortable. It actually transported me right back to the magic of school summer breaks growing up in India. The wine flight itself was an absolute treat. We started with the "Sunshine" Sauvignon Blanc, which was the perfect, crisp welcome pour (honestly, it would make a stellar candidate for a sparkling wine!). While the '22 "Wet My Lips" Rosé was just okay for us, the reds and the sweet finish completely blew us away: * '22 Casa de Vinas Merlot: This completely redefined what a Merlot should be. Incredible spicy richness with a beautiful, lingering finish. * '21 "Fat Boy" Cabernet: Lush, velvety, sweet, and tangy with a gorgeous hint of spice in the aroma. It is exactly the bold, unapologetic "Fat Boy" Cabernet Mitchell envisioned. (I was in heaven, though my wife found it a bit on the sour/tangy side!) * '21 Livermore Cabernet: A crowd-pleaser that my wife highly approved of--it carried a touch more sweetness to perfectly balance out that vibrant acidity. * '22 Mt Meanao Late Harvest Zinfandel: Liquid summer. Reminded us of plum, pluot, and honey married with sweet orange marmalade, leaving a gorgeous, spicy fruit finish that just stayed with you. If you are looking for an unpretentious, high-character boutique winery with phenomenal reds and a relaxing outdoor vibe, Mitchell Katz is a gem. We had a pleasant time during the tasting. I'd say the tasting is a very reasonable price for the amount of wine the team presents. During our stay we nibbled on a tray of veggies with hummus as well as the hot honey flatbread. Overall great service, lovely wines, and a beautiful winery. Even though they have an indoor space, it seemed they really wanted all the tastings to be done outdoors at tables with a wine ambassador/server. The outdoor patio is very pretty, skillfully landscaped in that winery fashion, lots of tables and a wooden structure with fans for some cover and circulation. But that cover is just a screen so it isn't complete shade, slivers of sunlight still beam through. Which can be a nuisance if that beam is in one person's face at the table. For this valley (Livermore) if a winery is going to conduct wine tastings outdoors, I think a full cover should be standard. It isn't yet but in time I think it will. A tasting is $25 with about 5 samples. They'll throw in a bonus 1-2 pours if you want to revisit a taste. They'll waive this fee if you purchase 2 bottles or more. They even have a small menu that you can order food that isn't just snacks like nuts and crackers. You can actually have a significant meal here, albeit a very small menu. We were going to have lunch elsewhere, so we didn't get too involved with the food. But we did order a warm baguette with 3 dips for $15 (4.5*) as tasting wines without food sometimes gets puckering and acidic. $15 seemed a bit much for some bread, but it was a well-made and well thought out platter. First the mini whole baguette was served very warm and fresh. To me personally a crusty bread that is warm is as soothing as slipping into your favorite old but comfy sweater. Who ever is supplying them with this bread is a legit bakery. I wouldn't even doubt if it was an Acme or a Semifreddi product. The 3 spreads given are actually way too much for the bread given. But they are all very conducive to the warm bread and sips of wine. 1 is a super soft butter. Not sure if anything else went in but it seems softer than straight butter. There's also a balsamic dip that is well emulsified with a nice garlic touch. Very tasty. And then there's a nice well made pesto that is loose from olive oil and a tinge of lemon in the background. And I found you can mix and match these spreads anyway you want to get a layered flavor effect. This totally elevated our wine tasting. The wines here I felt were above average. Several not so popular varietals like a Cabernet Franc or a Grenache Rosé made for an interesting ride. I found their sparkling wine to be very refreshing and one of their red blends to be solid enough to take home and pair it with a nice meal someday. I think their blending/winemaking skills suit my palate. Our server/pourer was very nice and efficient. I saw the employees taking turns on tables as they came. But I also saw a table already request a certain server so there are regulars that have made relations here. I'm all for that. One of my new faves to wine taste out here in Livermore. I had emailed them beforehand with many questions about the event, and the person I was corresponding with was very responsive. We went back and forth a bit, so I really appreciated how helpful and communicative they were leading up to the event. One of the things I liked most was that the event felt pretty no-fuss and relaxed. We had looked at a few other wineries in the area that were hosting events for Father's Day, but some of them had really strict policies for their special event like charging an exorbitant amount just to reserve a table, PLUS requiring a minimum 3 bottle purchase and limiting the number of people per table. It all felt a little too controlled. This place was much more laid-back, which I really appreciated. No reservations were needed, no minimum bottle purchase, and no headcount limit/table. There was also a car show going on, which was free to attend. It was nice to walk around and check out the classic cars, although it was very hot this day too. They had some local vendors selling arts and crafts, shaved ice, coffee, and snacks, so there was plenty to walk around and check out. It was hot out, so the shaved ice was really tasty! The live music was also really nice and added to the atmosphere. For food, you could either dine at the restaurant or get the BBQ being offered on the lawn. The BBQ wasn't actually cooked on the lawn, it was already packaged in to-go boxes, brought over from the restaurant by golf cart, and kept warm in insulated containers. The BBQ was **VERY delicious!** I believe the meal was around $35, and it fed 2 people well. We had leftovers. It came with BBQ chicken, potato salad, cornbread, a slice of watermelon, and a cookie. You could also add tri-tip, which we did. Everything was really flavorful. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the tri-tip was just as good, juicy and nicely seasoned. The sides were also very good. And I love cornbread, so I was definitely happy about that! The one area I think could use some improvement was the payment process for the BBQ. Since I was paying by card, they didn't have a card reader at the BBQ setup. I was told they didn't have one, which I found a little odd since they had a wine table set up on the same lawn where people were able to pay by card. Because of that, they had to take my card back to the restaurant, which, if you're familiar with the layout of the property, is a bit of a walk. Some people were waiting there for the worker to return with their card so they could sign the receipt before taking their food. I decided I didn't want to wait around because I was ready to eat, so I gave them my card, took the food, and went to our table. The worker later came and found me at the table, returned my card, and had me sign the receipt there, which worked out fine. Still, I think having another card reader specifically for the BBQ area would make the process much easier and more convenient. The wine table on the lawn also seemed to have a bit of a slow start. From what my family noticed, the event had already started and they weren't quite ready to go yet, so the staff seemed a little flustered at first. My family purchased a bottle to enjoy at our table. Seating was open and first come, first served, although there were some tables with reserved signs on them, possibly for wine club members? We arrived at the start of the event, and we ended up getting a great table in the shade, so no complaints there. Better than the reserved tables too b/c those had umbrellas but the sun kept moving so they had to keep moving the umbrella accordingly. You could also bring your own lawn chairs, which was something I had specifically asked about in my emails. We brought ours just in case, but ended up not needing them, so they stayed in the car. One of my questions was regarding the food options and they did state that outside food was not allowed, which I completely understand since they were offering food on-site. However, I did notice several families at tables near us who had brought their own food and coolers. That was a little frustrating to see because, had we known it wasn't really being enforced, we probably would have brought some of our own food and wine as well. Despite a few things that could be improved, overall it was a really nice, laid-back Father's Day outing with the family. I liked that there was plenty going on: the car show, vendors, live music, food, and wine without the event feeling overly structured or restrictive. The relaxed atmosphere was probably my favorite part, and the BBQ was definitely a highlight!
