Went to pick up new glasses and when putting them on I could tell something was off and could not see correctly. I was told wear the old glasses and put the new ones on in the morning. Here we are just over a month later and i cannot wear the new glasses for anything. When i try i get terrible headaches and cannot even use for my computer work. I have been going to Sterling Optical (Dr. Amedeo) for 28-years, back when they were inside the old Fredericktowne Mall. The staff and service are always excellent with good access and flexibility to schedule an appointment or follow-up. You can tell they care about what they do and continue to make efforts to be competitive while providing good service and fair pricing. Even though I live in Maine, and spend a lot of time on the road and in Chicago; I still come back annually! Originally, I worked with Dr. Amedeo in high school when I lost my perfect vision; going through transition to an active lifestyle including flying and motorcycling to find optics that fit the situations. I then transitioned to contacts, etc. Then in 2004, I had LASIK done and have been going back for the last 14-years for my regular check-up. Although nothing is really needed, they have worked with me to keep good quality sunglasses to protect my 20/15 vision under insurance, etc. I would HIGHLY recommend using this location of Sterling Optical. read more

The sales part was fine, but the doctor's bedside manner didn't play too well with me. He's one of those guys who tries to win you over (I guess) with what he thinks is dry sarcasm, but just ends up sounding like a condescending asshole. I'm so disappointed with this last visit. I've been seeing Dr Amadeo there for 24 years and expected better service than I received this round. I asked if I could have the lenses from a broken pair of glasses put into a new frame. I didn't need a new prescription and have a 2 year old pair of glasses in addition to these. The lenses were in pretty good shape (tho I can't prove it now). When I received the glasses back the lenses were a mess. 2-3 scratches that I don't believe were there before and some coating on the lenses. I even said to the person, "Why would I buy new frames for lenses like these." They weren't really wearable, but I was going to go with it until I noticed that the lenses had not even been cleaned. The skin cells and perspiration build up around the lens had been removed. I my be wrong, but I assumed cleaning the lenses would be a no brainer before they were but into my new $259 frames. You know what they say about assuming. I have been able to buff some of whatever they got on them off and will keep working on it. The schmutz they couldn't bother to clean off was the topper. I know they would rather sell a new set of $700 lenses, but really? Oh, I forgot to mention that I bough a years worth of daily contact lenses that visit as well. Not cheap. I really expected more professionalism and maybe a little courtesy for a loyal customer who drives 35 miles each way to come there. Guess not. read more

Dr. Amedeo was completely unprofessional. He seemed more interested in discussing my personal life than getting me to see better. He was inept in that he couldn't get me to see 20/20 in my right eye. His rationale: there was something "organic" about my eye. Huh? Sounds like an excuse for 'I'm not qualified and I lack the expertise to help you see perfectly.' I ended up going to Dr. Jan at Costco. He had absolutely no problem getting me to 20/20 in both eyes. It cost me an additional exam fee, but it was well worth it. read more

I've been going to Sterling for several years now and I have yet to have a bad experience. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The eye exam is thorough but reasonably fast. I've bought new glasses from them, I've had them put new lenses in old beloved frames I brought in. If I had any complaint, I wish they had a bigger selection of glasses on the floor, but it's a small enough storefront that I also understand the limitations of the space. I went to change my prescription for contacts from monthly to daily. The staff was very friendly and attempted to help me in every way.

I went to Sterling Optical in Frederick and ordered new lenses for my two eyeglasses. A week after, I received a call saying the glasses are ready for pick up. When I went there, only one was ready. It was a Friday and they told me the other one will be ready on Monday. Monday came but I didn't receive any call. I waited and waited until the following week I got an email stating that the glasses is ready for pick up. I went to the store three days after I received the email and to my amazement, the glasses was still not ready! It was frustrating and annoying since I don't live near the area and had to make a special trip to go there. A year ago, my son ordered a glasses from them. When we went to pick it up, we found out they ordered the wrong frame! They told us to go back the ff week. When we went there the second time, we got the right frame BUT one of the lenses had a crack! They compensated us with a $50 gift card and I thought I will give them another chance. But after our latest experience with them, we are done! We will not be going there and we will surely tell people of our experiences. read more

We called prior to shopping at the store and asked if they took VSP insurance Jenny said yes we do we went shopping for about a half hour looking at glasses and decided on a pair and when we sat down to talk about the insurance she says well we're not in network with VSP but will try to match your insurance after a 20 minute phone call authorization they couldn't offer us a good deal so she needed to cancel the authorization. Went to Longmedow optical and they failed to cancel authorization for benefits again jenny? Did not do her job !!!! Terrible customer service practices! I hadn't had an eye exam in a loooong time, so my boyfriend recommended Sterling Optical in Frederick. He's been going there for years and speaks highly of everyone there. Everyone was professional and friendly. Dr. Amadeo is great at what he does and has a wonderful sense of humor that put me at ease. I was extremely depressed when I found out I needed eyeglasses. Julie was very patient and helpful. She gave me time alone to accept the fact that I needed glasses, helped me pick out a few pair, and gave me tissue when I started to cry as I tried them on. I know some people might think it's silly to cry over needing glasses, but it's not about vanity. I think glasses can be very cool. If you have cataract surgery and expect Medicare to pay for glasses, do not go to Sterling Optical! This is the first review I have ever given but I need to warn others. I had cataract surgery in late 2021 and went to Sterling Optical in January 2022 for new glasses. I was told Medicare pays for the glasses if they are purchased within 12 months of the surgery. I had an eye exam and got bi-focal lens for everyday and a pair for reading. I was told since I had cataract surgery on both eyes, both glasses would be covered. When it came time to pay I was told they do not take Medicare and would need to file for payment. I went online and printed a form to make the claim. I waited 2 months for a check from Medicare only to find out the claim was denied because Sterling Optical does not have a Medicare supplier identification number. There was more to the story. The bifocal glasses I received gave me a headache caused by the left eye out of focus. I returned to Sterling Optical and Dr. Amedeo referred me to a retina specialist as he felt there was some sort of cloudiness in my left eye. I went through the expense and aggravation of the exam by a retina specialist only to find out my eyes were normal and that the cataract surgery looked great. I returned to Sterling and the prescription was corrected. My wife had a similar concern with Dr. Amedeo in January of 2020. She had an exam and was told she would have to have cataracts removed in order to pass the Motor Vehicle Administration's eye exam and renew her driver's license. She went to the Motor Vehicle Administration the following day and passed the eye exam and renewed her license. She now goes to another optician in Frederick, MD that does accept Medicare. I should have switched when she did but stuck with Sterling Optical. I feel like a fool and am out $517.00! You have been warned. read more

There is minimal wait as they run on time, and the doc is thorough and honest. He even told me that while I could benefit from a mild prescription that I was fine with my readers! I went to them and although the workers were friendly and nice, they also lack integrity and do not honor what they say. I purchased glasses and presented them with THEIR coupon for $100 off which said nothing at all about not being accepted with insurance. They ended up billing my insurance $100 but not taking the coupon. I attempted to settle this with them and then had to get the BBB involved. In the end, Sterling wouldn't make things right by refunding me the $100 - instead, they ignored the claim. They demonstrated a lack of integrity and morals! read more

Sterling Optical, specifically Emily, was extremely helpful in helping me finally get a pair of progressive lenses that worked. I went through two different versions at Pearle before giving up there (they were extremely nice but even after paying for a new prescription out of pocket it was just not happening) and tried LensCrafters but the selection was bad and I kept getting conflicting advice. I tried Sterling because they had great reviews and they were open late on the weekend. I was very happily surprised that they were not only very knowledgable and attentive, but also provided a complementary prescription. The staff is extremely helpful and very friendly. They're always willing to answer any questions you have, be there a hundred of them, and are just so patient and friendly. You can also tell that they are very knowledgeable and don't for a second let you think they don't want to be there or help you. Dr. Amedeo is so wonderful as well. While I rarely buy my glasses at Sterling, I always see Dr. Amadeo for an exam. My family has been seeing him for at least 15 years. He is completely professional and yet oh so personable, too. He must ask the same exam questions a thousand times a day, and yet he makes it sound as if you're his first patient of the day. Last year, I had trouble with my new glasses, and even though his office did not make the lenses, he saw me repeatedly and checked and re-checked my prescription until it was right, and he never made me feel bad for going for my lenses and frames elsewhere.
