The last place I went to, years ago, nearer my home in Westminster, featured an aging German couple who started out lacking any sense of customer service, and degenerated into outright hostility when it came down to working with insurance. So, having no clue where to start ... I walked into an "optician" shop not too far from downtown Frederick - and they only did glasses, but said they'd made plenty of referrals and got back plenty of raves for the eye exam by Dr. John. Sure enough, Dr. John not only gave me the exam, he gave full explanation of everything he was doing, including checks for health issues not directly related to vision (did you know they can spot early indications of diabetes, MS, kidney issues, and more from an eye exam??). Dr. John also answered lots of questions and worked through various scenarios on how I'd actually use the glasses (e.g. computer screen, skiing, whatever), to come up with a good solution. Plus it's no fuss - the exam fee includes all my follow up visits while I'm trying out some contacts. Recommended.

My husband and I were both patients of Dr. Hodges for a number of years. After my cataract surgery…read more(done by Dr Hodges) I had a great deal of vision loss. My husband was diagnosed with glaucoma but Dr. Hodges told him he was out of treatment options so his vision became severely degraded. Dr. Hodges seemed kind and personable but dismissed our concerns and told us there was nothing that could be done. Out of frustration about our continued vision loss, we set up an appointment with another ophthalmologist for a second opinion. She disagreed with Dr Hodges' assessment - she immediately changed eye meds, provided lots of options, and much more hope, for saving our vision. Already we are seeing better, but unfortunately, you can't turn back all the existing damage. We wasted much too much time and we lost way too much of our vision trusting Dr. Hodges.

I don't feel as if I need new lenses already. The doctor explained to me, in a way I could understand, why my previous prescriptions weren't suiting me. I appreciated his taking the time to do that for me. Choosing the frames is always difficult for me because of the strength of my prescription and because I have a narrow face. I usually end up looking at children's frames! But Mt. Airy had a nice selection of frames that fit my face, and a special line that could be adjusted to fit. That pair has become my favorite pair (I bought two pairs of glasses). The doctor reviewed my order before it was filled and made a suggested change to improve my close-work glasses that actually meant I was spending less money. In other words, they were motivated to give me the right glasses, not just make the most money. I'm very happy with the care and product I received. My only criticism is the office was very small but I think they just moved so I'm looking forward to visiting them again when the time comes to get checked again so I can see their new place.

Center by Dr. Gladsden at 1640 Dual Highway, Hagerstown, MD…read more Dr. Gladsden is a very friendly man who explained most of what the Laser Surgery would entail and what to expect after the surgery. What was left out of the explanation was: 1) How dry my eyes would be and that I would have to use expensive Eye drops for the rest of my life to counteract the dryness, 2) That my vision up close and mid-range (to read my laptop) would now require reading glasses. So, I was basically trading off having to use glasses to see at distance; to having to use glasses for up close reading and mid-range reading. In all the procedure was painless although expensive, I saved for two years for this procedure. If you were to ask me if I would do it again? The answer would be no; due to the lifelong side effects of the poor up close vision and having to use expensive eye drops several times a day. Remember this is one man's experience and other people's experience may differ.
