It's been a few months since I was at Mt. Airy Eye Care, so I can definitely say that my eyeglasses' prescription was very good, the best I've had in several years, because my glasses are still serving me well. I don't feel as if I need new lenses already. The doctor explained to me, in a way I could understand, why my previous prescriptions weren't suiting me. I appreciated his taking the time to do that for me. Choosing the frames is always difficult for me because of the strength of my prescription and because I have a narrow face. I usually end up looking at children's frames! But Mt. Airy had a nice selection of frames that fit my face, and a special line that could be adjusted to fit. That pair has become my favorite pair (I bought two pairs of glasses). The doctor reviewed my order before it was filled and made a suggested change to improve my close-work glasses that actually meant I was spending less money. In other words, they were motivated to give me the right glasses, not just make the most money. I'm very happy with the care and product I received. My only criticism is the office was very small but I think they just moved so I'm looking forward to visiting them again when the time comes to get checked again so I can see their new place. read more

Outstanding staff, not limited to Robin at reception, Parker who does initial exams and Carey finishing up after the appointment. Dr. Rennie makes her patients feel comfortable, addresses concerns, however trivial and provides knowledgeable service a patient can trust. With the Mt. Airy Eye Care team, I feel confident in my eye care. read more

Just went here for eye exam. Website said they take United Healthcare. Scheduled 3 weeks in advance. Called ahead to set up appt and left message on answering machine with plan # and insurance info day before. I take off work & get there and they say they do not take insurance from United Healthcare. I am told they haven't in 5 YEARS. I pull out phone & show them where my plan is listed on website and am told that they called to change that (not sure if the website company she was referring to?) and that hasn't been changed. 5 YEARS and that is not fixed? She says she will talk to the office manager to have it fixed. Too bad for me and missing work I suppose. The woman was nice enough and I don't blame her but this is ridiculous. Hate posting negative reviews for anything let alone a local business - sorry guys, unacceptable read more

Mt Airy Eye Care - Website clearly shows they take United Healthcare, but they don't. I wonder how many are here incorrectly? - Optometrists Near Me - Mount Airy, Maryland

We were in the Mt. Airy area and my daughter's glasses kept slipping off her nose, so looked for the closest eye place to get them adjusted. The setup is very modern/trendy and the staff was super friendly. They took care of us right away. The technician just had my daughter put on her glasses once, then walked away and came back with a perfect adjustment. Where we usually go, it's usually several tries to get them just right. Really a great job and the adjustment was free! read more

Mt Airy Eye Care - Optometrists Near Me - Mount Airy, Maryland

Our entire family of has been seeing both Dr. Coleman and Dr. Rennie for about 17 years now and we always have a good experience. Recently spent time (a longtime...it's a big decision!) choosing frames for myself. Mr. Gregory Snowden Jr, one of their opticians, was very patient and helpful both with my decision process and with helping to untangle an insurance snafu. Also recently needed to pick up contact samples for my son who ran out prior to a weekend trip and they went above and beyond by agreeing to put them outside the door for us to pick up as they were about to close and then sending someone after closing when they forgot to do so! read more

Got "emergency" service on a drive from DC when my contact dried out and wouldn't dislodge. The staff didn't make me feel silly about my dilemma and not having back up glasses/contacts, welcomed me in (with COVID protocols) and Cary took special care of me since I was nervous about the prospect of having to drive back for an hour with "one eye," . Excellent staff and service. If I lived closer, I would make it my eye care place. read more

First timer at Mount Airy Eye Center, was very pleased with the friendly staff. Dr. Rennie was very detail minded, giving me full confidence in her professionalism. I will definitely make Mount Airy Eye Center my to go Optometrist. I only gave them four stars because the prices for their frame/lens were outrageous. He wanted 650. for pair of glasses, and that was with a 20% discount. I also wanted to replace the lenses on my three existing glasses (very new frames) with my new prescription... but ended up walking away, no suggestions nor price was addressed by the sales rep. read more

I feel the prices were outrageous when I took my daughter to get an eye exam today and glasses. The total came to $850 (no insurance because they do not accept the insurance we have). That is $152 for the exam and $696.00 for the glasses and frames. I guess I should've shopped around! read more

The optometrists are wonderful, but the front of the house who provides services for glasses needs some additional training. They over commit and under promise timeframes for eyeglass orders to be returned from lab. Two separate family members were told one week, the lab says two weeks, and the accurate timeframes seems to be 3-4 weeks. On both occasions the customer was told they would receive a call when the glasses arrived, however that did not occur. When we called to check on orders the receptionist said they do not make calls to inform customers of the arrival of orders. read more

Mt. Airy Eye Care is the best place I've tried in 10 years in the DMV. They are extremely professional and accommodating. They were patient when I tried 3 different combinations of contact lens prescriptions, making sure I had enough time to really determine which was the right one for me. The advice and assistance I got while purchasing glasses was fantastic. I think she spent close to an hour with me. I am super happy with them. read more

Dr. Coleman is excellent. He takes his time to perform a very thorough exam, and explains (in as much detail as you would like) the results and your options. The staff is cheerful, and appointments are on time or very close. Highly recommended. read more

Dr. Coleman and his staff were absolutely wonderful and I would highly recommend them to anyone. The ease of making an appointment along with taking me at the appointment time and not making me wait, as so many other doctors seem to do, was very much appreciated as my time is just as valuable. They are fully equipped with state of the art machines and being able to fill my much needed prescription right on site made it very convenient. read more

I've been going to Mt. Airy Eye Care Center for 20+ years. Dr. Coleman is friendly, professional, and explains everything he's doing. I've been out of the area for over 10 years, but always return to Mt. Airy Eye Care Center for my annual eye exam to see my buddy, Dr. C. I always ask to take my prescription with me since I don't live in the area, and they are always accommodating. read more

From basic eye care to guiding me through LASIK/PRK laser correction surgery, I cannot recommend Dr. Coleman strongly enough. The people at TLC (where I had my surgery) were amazed on how much I understood about the surgery - until they saw who my eye doctor was. They said that Dr. Coleman's patients always come fully prepared and understand the process because Dr. Coleman takes the time to explain what to expect and what the limitations are. His staff is enthusiastic and helpful, from setting up appointments to handling detailed insurance issues. read more

Friendly and professional. Love the doctors and the staff. Always a pleasant experience.

Dr. Coleman and his team are fantastic! I starting using the Mt. Airy Eye Care team last year and have been 100% satisfied... I now live about 3 hours away and still drive to their office in Mt. Airy, it's worth the round trip. The staff is very friendly to work with, and very helpful in selections of frames, communicating your insurance benefits (and what it will cost you), and all around being good people. Dr. Coleman is very professional, and excellent as an eye doctor, but he'll also talk to you and have a conversation, making you feel more like a friend than a patient. I can't recommend Mt. Airy Eye Care highly enough! read more

My experience at Mt. Airy Eye Care was anything but pleasant. From the moment that I walked in, I felt like I was in a bad used car dealership. With the eye exam the way the examiner phrased my options for one of the exams was "You could get the eye drops which will make you sensitive to light for 4 hours (and all of the other negative side effects of the drops) or you could pay $39 for no drops." I didn't want the eye drops in the first place so I did the other exam, but I thought this was an unprofessional way of giving me my options. Then they kept on selling me on getting contacts, which I don't wear and repeatedly said I don't want. "They could be for weddings or kayaking." I have never kayaked in my life. When it came time to pick out frames and talk about lenses, I again felt like I was being haggled. I already knew exactly which frames I wanted and the woman kept on giving me a certain brand to try which was much more expensive than the ones that I had already picked out. When discussing lenses, she told me exactly what she was giving me instead of asking what I wanted. Then she told me the total for my pair of glasses with insurance was going to be over $350. The lenses alone were over $700 without insurance. WHAT!? This was my first time with vision insurance and I pay about that much without insurance. When I asked to just pay for the exam and to have a copy of my prescription, she asked if it was because the cost was too high. When I said yes, she offered to drop the cost down to $150. So...you can just magically slash over $200 off my bill now that I'm about to walk out. No thank you. I took my business somewhere else and they gave me exactly what I wanted for $177. I will not be returning to Mt. Airy Eye Care. read more
