TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE ORDERING ONLINE First visited the store a couple of months back. Casey was incredibly nice and, because I couldn't make a decision on a $600 bag on the spot, suggested I order online and have it shipped to NYC later. I decided to make the purchase and placed my order on a Friday. True to the company's FAQ: http://www.sterlingandburke.com/store/FAQ_Question.html, I received an email saying the item was in stock, would be dispatched early in the week, and I would receive a Fedex tracking number. I assumed this meant either Monday or Tuesday after the weekend. Fast forward to Thursday, however, and still no email I decided to call them. The lady who had sent me an email picked up and after figuring out who I was curtly replied "I just sent you an email." Ok. I expected an email to arrive shortly. Almost an hour later the email arrives. It has a tracking number, but guess what, "Not found" on the Fedex website! I email the lady back and do not receive a reply. Today is Friday and I decide to call Fedex to figure out where in the world my shipment is. Fedex is surprised because they haven't even picked up the package yet. Only a shipping label has been printed. I'm pretty angry by this point. I write S&B another email and do not receive a reply (no surprise) again. It would help if they had an answering machine, but the tracking number finally gets activated and the bag was actually shipped after 5pm today, Friday. This means that they DID NOTHING until I emailed/called/tried to figure out what was going on. Moral of this story: I'm completely disappointed by their execution after receiving my order and payment. I received little to no communication and it felt like they waited to ship my item AFTER I HAD TO ASK FOR IT. CHECK YOUR INBOX. REPLY TO CUSTOMER EMAILS. DON'T WAIT FOR THE CONCERNED CALL TO ACTUALLY PRINT THE LABEL. DON'T WAIT FOR THE SECOND TO ACTUALLY SEND THE ITEM! This is HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. It makes no sense why this had to happen. I have popped in to this lovely little slice of heaven a couple of times, but the last one had to be about 5+ yrs ago. I was in DC visiting friends and working off a bit of the gentlemen's flu by walking around the fancy shops of Georgetown and stumbled in once more. Where else can you can outfit yourself with sweet items like a new boot flask - for me, while also picking up a cool orange cuff for your wife? This place! For all of the items that they purvey, you really should visit the store in person as it is much easier to decide by touch and feel than trying to accomplish the same via Al Gore's Internet, but gotta do what you gotta do. It is hard to find stores with personality and meaning today, especially in the United States where everything is a brand, chain, and made in China. Sterling & Burke is a place that offers its customers an escape from the-day-to-day grind. When I walked inside I felt like I was transported to another time and dimension. Everything in the store is either manufactured in the United States or the UK...and there is something there for everyone who walks in. The staff is very friendly and happy to tell you the story behind any of the pieces, art, colognes, etc that are in the store (and believe me, everything does have a story!). The attention to detail and willingness to personalize anything in the store is hands down amazing! I have been to the store on several different occasions; the first time I walked in and chatted with a customer customizing a briefcase to match the original case James Bond carried, on a second occasion someone was commissioning a painting from one of the several artist the store features. I was very impressed with unique experiences one can find in such a petite shop (so certainly do not let the size fool you!). In addition to this, the quality of the goods is impeccable...I have purchased from them a notebook and even had my initials embossed on the cover. I love it. This is a wonderful example of a small business that does everything right. We stayed at the next door Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown and wandered into this nice shop one evening in February. There were many unique items in various price ranges available to purchase. Whether it is small cufflinks, a briefcase or other such specialized items this shop has it all. But there on a back side wall I spotted her. "America We Love You" an original painting by local artist Claire Howard. It was in a wonderful gold wooden frame and I fell in love. I live in the Hollywood Hills in a rather large home but there is nothing on my walls. I immediately knew that this would be the start of something good-a real piece of art to put on my wall where everyone could see it and admire it. I would see it every time I sit down in my dining room. The center piece of my home. How fortunate I was to meet Susan the owner of the business who told me some history of the painting and the local artist. My biggest concern was how could I possibly get it from Washington D.C. to the Hollywood Hills. Susan assured me that she would make sure it arrived safe and sound. I trusted her and today a 60 pound wooden crate arrived via UPS. It probably took me two hours to carefully remove the painting from the crate. I had to make my way through layers and layers of cardboard and bubble wrap-but there she was in perfect condition. Also included were the correct wire and hanger to be used by my professional picture hanger to make sure it is hung properly on my wall. Saturday night will be the champagne party to welcome my "Klimt" to my home for all of my friends to admire. I cannot remember the last time I had worse customer service. I would not purchase a gift for anyone there or recommend it for a personal purchase to anyone I know. The sales associate I dealt with was not only rude but completely unaccommodating and judgmental. There are plenty of retail options when you are considering high-end gifts or if you want something special for yourself and my strong recommendation is to look elsewhere! January 6, 2017 I want to amend my review, as I think companies deserve a second chance, especially small businesses. The quality of a company, at least in my opinion, is measured by the customer service one receives and my initial experience was poor. HOWEVER, the management of Sterling and Burke did an outstanding job in follow-up after my review below. Two people contacted me to make amends for my initial visit and I think anyone visiting the shop in Georgetown should consider this effort as exemplary, Think, Nordstrom, on a smaller scale. Though I was offered a complimentary purchase of the item in question, I declined to avail myself of this offer and would recompense the shop for any merchandise. I deal with customer service often as this is my field of expertise and most companies would shrug off a review and experience such as mine. I encourage potential customers to give the company a chance to "WOW" you with their merchandise, which is unparalleled in quality, and their efforts to deliver a level of customer service that seems rare today. I will give the company another opportunity to deliver service and I recommend others do the same. Many thanks to the management for their attempts to ameliorate my position with their phone calls and email! Sterling and Burke really is a gem in Georgetown and worth the visit to consider purchasing their offerings. December 2016 My wife and I were here tonight before dinner to purchase a briefcase and a Halcyon box but wandered the shop to see all the great items. I chose a cashmere scarf to purchase along with a new briefcase before checking out and going to dinner. When I gave the scarf to the young ladies to checkout they wouldn't sell it to me because it was mislabeled with the wrong price. Not my problem! I was prepared to purchase a new briefcase at full price as a gift to myself for my birthday, a purchase that would have been more than $1500. When they refused to sell me the scarf we walked out! Their loss and though I like this shops wares I believe their dismal attitude about real customer service is an indication that they would not honor any service they say they provide to their patrons. I will not darken their door ever again and will refer other customers to a different company. A total sales loss of thousands of dollars over a mislabeled scarf. DISAPPOINTED! read more

Sterling and Burke is only good for what they have in store. I placed an order for a Swaine Adeney Brigg bag, and was informed that it'd take 3 months. When the 3 months was up, they told me another 3 months. This went on, and I waited for 9 solid months. I then asked them if the order would be fulfilled, to which they replied they could not be sure. Most frustrating. If you want products from SAB, buy it from London, or call the London branch. A great assortment of classics like lid-over-body attache and top frame case which is classic American lawyer bag. So many of the old manufacturers in england have gone out of business because people choose to carry their documents in ugly black nylon briefcases or backpacks. The English briefcases give one a seriions and. professional look. They also last forever and can be passed on to family members as heirlooms. It's wonderful to see that their are still a few British companies making these classic briefcases. If you carry one of these your perceived wealth and intelligence skyrockets.
